Nice video Ivo! I use skates as my main mode of transport in Utrecht, whatever the weather. What I've learned: 1. Rough wheels give more grip. Use your beaten up wheels. If you don't have any... go skate in the god damn rain! 2. Small wheels, short stride. It's slippery as fuck. Stay low and maximize the energy transfer where you can. 3. Sway, swerve, swivel. Use the 'backs' of your skate. Learn to double push! 4. Just roll those rusted up bearings free! Water & rust are an OK lubricant in winter. 5. These skates stink like hell. Don't be afraid to (hand) wash them thoroughly with hot water. 6. Buy secondhand. These skates/frames probably won't last more than two seasons. 7. Soak it up! The fit of the boot becomes more important. When it's wet you feel your socks & liners move around. 8. Perhaps think about investing in some rain wheels. 9. Go skate in the god damn rain!

Use 74a wheels, the softer the better for rain. Use molybdenum grease in bearings.

As a long distance skater I actually use quite the same setup, an old set with normal wheels and old 'summer' bearings, difference is I grease em up with normal Kroon bearing grease, slower yes but works quite good and quite long, even going over those wet Zebrapony's 😆

skated half of this summer on dry bearings because I don't care about wheater (and had a lack of money 😅). bought a pack of fifty wicked bearings as soon as I got the chance... possible to skate dry non the less

Damn right, my most impressive downhills were first done complitely under rain simply because sliding became an option. Water also slows you done when it rains enough.

I haven't ventured out into the rain yet, my wicked abec9's are too precious to me (i know that's silly, I saw your vid on bearings 😁). But that's a great tip on having a 'sacrificial' set-up for the rain. When these bearings wear out a bit I will be sure to keep them on hand for rainy days, perhaps with an extra set of frames for easy switching. Question for specialists: I've bought a jar of superlube teflon grease, tech sheet says it's very water resistant. I'm guessing if I pack my bearings 50% full with that they'll survive rainy conditions for a while. No need to go fast, just need to be able to ride carefree in the rain. What do you think? Have you ever tried this? (my hunch is that so-called "rain-proof bearings" like Seba Storm are just regular bearings with some medium thick grease)

So i have wheels that have 88a hardness, it's very difficult to get grip on wet asphalt. You recommend striding really close to the body and not extend too far to avoid slipping?

Close the ventilation holes on the underside of your skates using hot glue and cut to fit patches of bicycle tubes.

I can safely say this is not a good idea I have been skating at the skate park for the last 3 years and I will never skate ramps when it's raining or when it's wet. My local park when it gets wet is extremely slippery to the point just casually pushing on skates makes you slip out I have found the only way I can skate in the wet at my local park is to do what I call the penguin waddle 😅
