I've been rolling these for over a month now with a set of WCD rustproof bearings. The weather in the UK hasn't really let up and I can't recall the last time I saw the ground dry. This setup is allowing me to skate but it doesn't replicate dry skating. The wheels are better on most surfaces, but as you discovered here, on some surfaces they make little difference at all. I am find, however, that wet skating is really forcing me to focus more on my technique and precision as you just don't have the same margin for error in the wet. The bearings are holding up extremely well.
@ThirtyandRollin
@ThirtyandRollin 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know about the bearings. I will grab a set if these don't hold up. And yes you have a great point that it does make you more aware of your technique while skating!

@@ThirtyandRollin How's that WD-40 Lithium spray working out for you? I'm finally going to have to do some maintenance on my Rustproof bearings and wondering what best to lube them with.
@ThirtyandRollin
@ThirtyandRollin 4 жыл бұрын
@@RichHayterSkater No rust to be found! Yet. I think if I stay on it with this grease I won't have any issues. The bearings are rolling well minus all the rocks and grit that gets kicked up from the wet. I actually just used it on my aggressive setup after I did a deep cleaning and it works super well for a cheap lubricant too! So far I highly recommend it!

@@RichHayterSkater Awesome! Only downside is you have to spray your bearings with wheels off and opened up after a cleaning. Then wipe all excess grease off. This stuff is very thick and clumpy and stays that way. It's good for longevity in your bearings but can be quite messy with over spray.

I just stumbled across your channel - glad I did! We’re practically neighbors (I’m in Hillsboro). I’ve learned a few things about skating in wet conditions (will agree with your video: no sense in skating IN the rain but anything to expand the potential skating days is good). Here are some quick tips I’ve learned: 1) know the streets in your neighborhood to skate: some streets dry out quicker due to their orientation (N-S vs E-W), foliage, slope, etc., 2) watch the weather because often you can roll a bit in the morning before the big cloud comes, 3) for equipment preservation if it was wetter than I anticipated when I get home I put my skates in the dryer. Our clothes dryer has a rack doohickey for drying shoes (so they don’t tumble). I put my skates in there for 20 minutes to dry out. 4) softer wheels, for sure, 5) as you mentioned, lower your expectations for what you can do, and last but not least: 6) be careful of your abductors! It’s so easy to slip pushing and totally ping your abductors... Enjoyed your review, I’m going to check those wheels out, also really appreciated the comment about the wd-40 white lithium. Great tip! I just picked up skating this summer so I’m itching for the dry weather! I just saw something about an injury you had, I’m going to check that out next. I’m 50+ and rolling, wish I would have started sooner.. ! ;)

One more thing I can't find being brought up here: take that bum lower to the ground and take shorter stride. Something should start working here. And it's all about the cleaness of the street. No oil, no dripping from trees, no sand.

I think the softer the wheel the better the grip in the rain, I use labeda extra softs which are 74a I think. They work far better than any other wheel I've used in the rain. And the slip is much more controllable :)
@ThirtyandRollin
@ThirtyandRollin 4 жыл бұрын
Yep I would agree. Grab a soft wheel for good rain performance but then you run into the wheel falling apart super fast. That's where these try to hit a happy middle ground.

@@ThirtyandRollin I thought about buying some of those rain wheels but after watching videos i think I'll stick with the softies. The feel of riding on soft wheels so nice that I've decided that I'm prepared to just wear them out fast, and if they fall apart then that's ok, but the labedas are lasting really well. I need some waterproof bearings tho. Did you say you used the wicked waterproof bearings? Oh and I'll be 40 next year bro and still loving skating. I got back in to it about 5 years ago and I'm so glad I did :)

honestly just go on skate pro and order cheap 82a wheel bearing spacer combo.. so long as your not skating gravel theyre actually really grippy for rain/wet in uk. perfect for simple skate around.
@rotbarsch1979
@rotbarsch1979 5 жыл бұрын
My wet setup are some trusty old Feinbergs with R100s, MPC Storm Surge 100mm wheels and Niro bearings. They provide good grip on regular surfaces, a bit sketchy on marble etc. and are at a complete loss of traction when there's dirt involved in the mix. So they should be similar to what Powerslide's wheels are offering. P.S.: I live in a very rural area, where 99% of the roads are covered with a thin layer of "farmer's ice" (aka mud/dirt), so I can't use the setup anyway... 😣 But I got 8 wheels + bearings "like new" for 65€ shipped, making them a worthy investment for skate nights and city skating.

Those all black skates with black wheels look pretty rad man. I might pick up a set of these and try them this spring once salt washes off the roads here in MN- it'd be nice to keep rolling in wet conditions. I'm guessing they use the bullet profile since that would focus the skater's weight on a smaller contact patch and create more pressure that will (in theory) push through surface water and make more contact with the pavement itself. I'm no wheel expert but that's my guess as to why they used that shape.
@ThirtyandRollin

That's my guess too! But makes for a scary edging wheel if you roll off that small area.

Moss, leaves and signs painted on the floor are the things that you simply cannot trust at all, not one bit. For the rest, respect the challenge, slow down and your gonna have fun. Thats how I learnt how to slide, super easy on wet surfaces. I still struggle on dry asphalt.

They are a bit gripper on some wet surfaces than a regular of set 85a wheels. That being said they don't make all wet surfaces skatable. Anything dirty or mossy when wet is a no go. But they do make wet streets feel like dry pavement.

Got 110mm ones for my K2 Trio skates. They are really, really good on wet asphalt road, almost no slipping. I'm using old ILQ 9 Pro bearings lubricated with WD 40 White Lithium Grease and they still hold fine. There are only two problems. Wet leaves -- utter abomination! But stil better than with my usual wheels. A the other one: switching from racing harder wheels to these ones suddenly makes skating much harder! Almost feels like I was kicked back half a year back in time to when I started to skate again.

@@ThirtyandRollin Thanks, I tested them out last week and they're indeed a lot less slippery. I installed two 80 mm PS Torrents on each skate as front-wheels, so 4 total. Then two 84 mm PS Infinity II wheels in the back, also 4 total. I prefer the front rocker setup in the hilly city area I live. Normal front-wheels make it almost impossible to go uphill on wet roads, as they constantly slip. It went a lot better with these new Torrent wheels... Just one drawback, I was able to destroy two of them (both front wheels) in less than week. Skating roughly a 75-100 km distance. I live in a hilly area, with bad roads and my skating style tends to be quite aggressive. Just to let people know that replacing two wheels on a weekly basis can become rather expensive...

The wheels absolutely work for those who skate on asphalt, cycling paths and textured concrete! I would recommend for fitness and speed skating in the rain on structured surfaces and I would not recommend these wheels for city skaters who ride and slide on city bricks and smooth surfaces because these wheels have less grip than normal wheels in those situations. Cleaning your bearings if your ride daily in winter is too much of a hassle. Better just oil some old bearings well once and trash them during the winter season. Else you will spend hours on your bearings each week. If they are rusted shut, just force them free and they'll keep working for a few weeks. I think it is more important to clean your skates after every wet session and dry them immediately. That will keep most of the gunk out of your bearings.

You kidding me!? Remember when we used to be kids and enjoyed playing in the rain eventhough lightning bolt and thunder is hovering at the top of our heads scared , excited , fun , carefree , loving it , all these mixed emotions and certainly dont care about anyone says because we are just kids that is goofing around. We cant do those now that we have matured enough or else people will think that we lose some screw as an adult person if you go out and play outside with the rain. Yep sometimes being an adult comes with a price it you are a kid reading this post... enjoy your youth while it last... Now with these we have the perfect excuse or reason to do and enjoy going out in the rain. If some adult person said why are you inline skating outside in the rain?" We will be like , " Oh it is just that I am testing this meant for rainy days wheels by powerslide and see if it really is good for outdoor rainy days " and walla you just got out of that sticky situation. If he still insist that you are an adult then say ,"Look just go to this site and see foryourself why this is suitable again for rainy season". Thanks for the post again and take care. Peace.

I agree! As adults we put so many limitations on ourselves. The worst one is "o I am too old for inline skating" . Thanks for watching!
