These are really good motors, we have a few in our fuel bulk plants that have been running for about 37 years and still going strong. We’ve had to replace a few parts here and there but they are from an era when everything was over engineered.

Nicely done. I saw a big-motor rewind video from- I think- Bangladesh where they pulled an all-nighter: then had some clown at the end with blowtorch, stick solder and NO FLUX. Green flame, copper burning to black... which is presumably why they'd had to rewind the motor in the first place.

@@coil_magnet UK: Faraday's country :-) Those joints were /very/ nicely done: you could see the solder wicking into the copper before the pour got to the end. There's a story that plumbers would use moleskin (rather than their glove) to make a neat wiped joint, but the name could apply equally well to heavy cotton fabric as to the little burrowing animal. But /please/ chaps, wear a mask when hacking that damaged insulation. I'm an old EE and predate all the current "snowflake culture", but even so: that stuff's nasty, and some of the modern materials are even nastier than the traditional ones.

Schade, dass es solch gute Handwerker kaum noch in Duetschland gibt. zum Glück kenne ich hier in der Gegend noch eine Hand voll Firmen, die so was tatäschlich noch machen. Zu Preisen, die schon happig sind, muss man fairerweise sagen,. aber auch irgendwo verständlich, wenn man bedenkt, welches Know How hier gebraucht wird etc. Das letzte mal als ich so was machen lies war es ein Motor von einem laufband, für den es keinen Ersatz mehr gab. Die freundlichen Leute im Motorenbau haben ihn auch gleich mit einer besseren Isolationsklasse gewickelt. damit er auch hält. - war gut 🙂

What these “safety freaks” don’t understand is these are true craftsmen and take responsibility for their own safety (as opposed to no brain workers that have a boss responsible for their safety.) If a worker is stupid enough to get hurt they don’t deserve this kind of job. This is a problem in American industry, the majority of workers are so unskilled they need someone to think for them and that’s really dangerous. Once someone else starts thinking for you, you take risks.

Not needed. This isn’t a production line where hundreds of parts come by in a day. Its a craftsman doing a job that requires dexterity. They wear gloves as needed. Eye protection as needed. Pull the pickle out.
