For context, Barb (Mom) has 2 kids Cole and Chris both of whom she abused or neglected, examples being having a abusive babysitter for Chris, so much so Cole cut ties. Due to Chris’s mental health he didn’t talk so Barb Babied him and bribed him with toys and never took his mental health seriously thus forming some irrational attachments and delusion due to being babied in such a unhealthy way. We see pictures of a loving mother and her son but the context of what is going on and what is about to transpire is incredibly disturbing to a point of fascination

@@jamie2487 IIRC didn't Barb force Chris to spoon with her at the time? I think it was something regarding her wanting to manipulate Chris to stay at home and stop him from going out places/leaving the nest. I know Barb and Bob were having marital issues at the time and they were sleeping in separate beds. And then of course Chris was having dreams about "being" with her for who knows how long. None of this justifies what Chris has done. AT ALL. But obviously things that happened years ago did contribute to what is happening now.

This is legit one of the scariest thing I've watched. The fact it happens in real life. A broken family, two blood-related persons, warped in mental illness, stuck in cycle of abusive relationship. All while being documented and ridiculed by public masses, hiding behind anonymity. There is no protagonist in this story. Every one is evil. The internet may forget or easily blame Chris for all of this, but we are the one who feeds the monster.

When you realize that there is no free will, you realize that there is no “deserving” of one circumstance over another. The only thing that can be said is that everyone deserves to be happy, because happy is good. Barb was a terrible mother, but did she have control over that? Did she have the control to not be a hoarder? Nah, it’s all a product of her earlier life. And her earlier life is a product of her own parents’ raising her. Every part of life is part of the causal chain, and we have no control over that, so how can we be held morally responsible? Once you realize this, you realize that criminals and other bad peeps just as much, if not more, deserve to be happy. Barb deserves a happy life, as does Chris, not out of their deeds but because all humans deserve to be happy.

Dementia is a terrible thing, something I would never wish on even my worst enemies, as it destroys your whole identity. And for someone like Barb, it proved to be especially dire given the situation she created for herself early on. She set into motion through negligence and selfishness a situation that is not only unsustainable, but proved to become threatening for her, as she raised (and most surely groomed throughout his life) a creature with inhibited cognitive abilities itself who she programmed to have an unhealthy connection to, and now that she's totally lost control over herself, so to her son-husband, who is now just acting upon the twisted, crossed and bent impulses he's acquired throughout his development..

I think most autism moms are like this tbh; they're super protective and enabling of their kids. It's not really unusual, but I think at this point, a lot of the blame falls on Chris as well. Even if Barb and Bob didn't, there were plenty of people in Chris's life who tried to help him and give him advice, but he pushed them away anyway. Now pushing 40, there's really no excuse at this point. It's just a tragic situation all around. Bob must be a gyroscope by now, the way he's been spinning.

As it stands, Chris Chan is the end product of a mentally ill man led on a social leash by those who meant to harm him for their own entertainment.
