One of my favorite realizations about Jotaro is after an encounter later he mentions he doesn't think he has a poker face and that everyone can see what he's thinking, which made me realize Holly always reading through his embaressed, punk facade convinced him that his actual feelings were obvious to everyone which is WHY he's so consistently stoic and unreadable.

I would argue that part 4 stands are the most “normal” I don’t want to spoil anything just in case Merphy reads all the comments but a lot of the stands in part four have valid real life uses like Shigechis stand or Antonio’s stand also some stands are legit just powered down versions of stands from part three like Okuyasu and Vanilla ice.

@@ethan2529 I can definitely agree that part 4 stands are not that insane relatively speaking, but there are definitely some goofy ass insane stands, like the one the main antagonist has, to the radio tower, the guy who might not even have a stand and might just be a weird guy with unrelated powers, the book guy, rock paper scissors, and Araki's self insert with the most godlike ability. But they definitely do get wackier in future parts.

@@therealgooseman2358 there are also some crazy ass stands in part three as well tho, also I can’t think of a single practical use for any stand from part three other than Joseph’s stand which would let you stop yourself from falling and descend from high places. Most stands in part 4 have a practical use. Crazy diamond can heal your friends from any wound, Red Hot Chili Peppers could charge your phone and like I said shigechis and Antonio’s stand would also be game changers IRL, the only super crazy stand from part four is Kira’s that I can think of off of the top. Even that one dude that can shapeshift would have great practical uses as shown in the anime. Rohans ability would even have real life uses as well outside of killing people, I could write in a billionaires brain for them to donate 100 million to me and just like that I would be filthy rich.

You understood Jotaro perfectly. And that's a fact because something that isn’t in the anime (for obvious reasons) is his character page from the manga, in which it says that he thinks that he's so easy to read by everyone that he doesen't show much emotions and that causes people around him to mistakenly take it as a sign that he doesen't care. One of my favorite moments is just everything he does for Steely Dan when he has Joseph under attack, and how pissed he got at him

Part 3 is like the experiment and that's why it feels kinda "inconsistent" a little bit and the story structure is repetitive. But when you get to part 4, that's where the Stand System is consistent and fully cooked(? I'm sorry English isn't my first language) and the story structure is engaging.

Jotaro is indeed a good solid JoJo. the way we see his actions speak louder than his demeanor is A+. he's a kind and honest soul, who has difficulty communicating his feelings and leans on a gruff Clint Eastwood-esque persona to cope. I love that he canonically binges Columbo episodes my other favorite detail, and this maybe borders on headcanon or outright fanon, but. Star Platinum, as a spirit with overwhelming strength that manifests Jotaro's righteous fury and defends the weak...it's like he's inherited Jonathan's noble soul, and Jonathan's lending his strength from beyond the grave to help Jotaro stand up to DIO and his minions. every time I see Star Platinum, I can't help but smile and think of Jonathan.

stands are pretty much the reason Jojo is still going. From what I heard the original plan araki had was to just do parts 1 and 3, but he wanted people to really feel the passage of time so part 2 was made, then after part 3 he had so many stand ideas he wanted to use that the rest of the series came after.

In a sense, you’re getting a lesson in anime fighting history. Before part 3, a lot of manga was like part 1 and 2, a small flimsy magic system that still completely relied on punching eachother. Part 3 gave araki a chance to expand his creativity for how the basis of a fight even works. Essentially, part 3 is the blueprint for what HunterXHunter created, which is widely considered one of the best power systems in anime. The one thing that truly makes jojo unique is araki himself. His creativity never wavered. By part 5, a manga being released in the mid nineties, his fights were equivalent of any modern anime fight scene. His fights have always been ten to twenty years ahead of every other mangaka. To the point that part 7, the next part to be released has been considered by many to be near impossible to animate and create properly.

Also Jotaro is the face of the whole franchise and everyone has favorite JoJos so don't feel bad if he's your favorite! I love the Kakyoin Cherry scene. At the end of the episode it's revealed that kakyoin really does do that cherry think with his tongue and so Temperance, who must have seen kakyoin do that cherry thing on his own and thus tried to imitate it, did it all the time in front of jojo in the hopes that it would convince jojo that he is the real one because of course only kakyoin would do something that weird right? Except none of the crusaders had ever seen kakyoin do that before so he just looked like a huge weirdo lol!

For me, part 1 has always been my favorite and I do not understand why people talk down on it. But part 3 kind of dragged on too long IMO. About half way thru, where you are now, is when I started to feel a bit fatigued and burned out. But the end of part 3 was great! And I've heard the series just gets better from here but I haven't started part 4 yet. But I feel I'm gonna need to do that soon so I can finish it in time to catch your review of it! 😁

Love the final volumes of this arc. Part 1 sold me on the concept after Zeppeli punches the frog. Part 2 made me a fan with its absolute absurdity and character charm, part 3 made me a full-on convert.

The reason for the name changes has a lot to do with copyright since almost the characters and Stands are named after musicians, songs, albums, etc

A nice detail in the manga that doesnt really show up in the anime, but Jotaro's Stand Star Platinum shows a lot of emotion when they are fighting while Jotaro has a bold face. So you have Jotaro bold face while Star Platinum is giving a big ol smile while beating a bunch of thugs, which I always felt was that he puts a front to look bold while actually being excited about beating bad people

One interesting thing to think about, Hirohito Araki has once said if the Crusaders, or any stand user managed to time travel back to part 2, they would see Hermit Purple wrapped around Joseph's body

I've been so excited for you to discover Stands! They are such a clever way of mixing up the action and providing conflicts with non-traditional solutions (even if so many of them end with rapid punching lol). Stands came first, but it would not be out of the question to compare their function in the story with the Devil Fruits of One Piece! You really never know what kind of ability you might see next.

Honestly, Jojo's was my refuge in the chaos of the pandemic. Made me laugh and have a good time without thinking deeply about the things around us and that kept me sane for those first months 😂. I understand when someone doesn't like the series, I feel it's like a 'you either love it or hate it, no inbetween' situation. When you get that the humor is done on purpose like this and doesn't take itself seriously, everything is more enjoyable

Jojos from part 4 onwards is a lot more plot centered, without shying away from the humor, chaos, and action that the series has established so far… if anything it only gets more wacky 😂

I also suggest watching the Part 3 OVA. Is older but it has great animation and good visual indicators that potray how the powers work very well at the end

22:06 You need to watch the Darby brother episodes in both Japanese and English. There’s really funny things about both. 😂 Also the entire encounter with Mariah is best in Japanese.

Lol, the voice actor for that Death 13 clown is the same one with Chopper in One Piece anime. Death 13, Justice, and Hanged Man are the best stand abilities in the 1st half. 2nd half has some of the best stand battles in JoJo
