Everything Coming to Rivals 2 in 2025

honestly i really hope they add back some of the more goofy settings we got in rivals 1. like screen wrap, aether stages and turbo mode. settings like that really open up the game for a more fun casual time with friends, i think imagine if we got some turbo mode tournaments. it would be so jank

I frankly couldn't care less about buddies, they're just a little slightly-distracting and usually kinda cute cosmetic. Workshop support and launching on consoles will both be HUGE for the game and bring in a lot of new players. Custom colors are pretty neat ig. Not sure if I'm interpreting right what you were saying about rotating stages, but I don't like the idea of removing stages at all.

Stages won’t be removed from the game, but the competitive stagelist might rotate to keep it concise for competitors, that’s a year off from now so the devs might change their approach

Workshop and console are the two things I most want to see, but they seem likely to take much longer than most of the planned additions/changes. Workshop support especially seems very difficult to add given the graphical changes from Rivals 1

Can’t back this up with a source but I’m pretty sure one of the devs said that console is multiple years away. It was always gonna be a ways away but something about not getting an established publisher set it back even more or something? I’ve also seen people say that the devs intention is to release to console as a very complete game so it’s not even really a question of how fast could they pump it out (though I’m sure that is a huge bottleneck). Sorry I can’t remember better

3:46 I'm about 99% sure that that is actually wrastors edition of the champion skin series you mentioned earlier since those skins had the unique mechanic of being slightly transparent as if made of glass which is pretty evident in the wrastor skin shown, and it would absolutely not be given out at gold I would say probably diamond or maybe even masters, though they could separately add in the gold pallettes from r1 for reaching gold if that should be rewarded

Like I get it’s cool but at the same time I feel like it would be better to just build on the IP itself. It’d be weird if street fighter two had kazuya Mishima in it, for example

I get that for sure, hoping we get one or two guests in a few years, shovel knight and ori are awesome in 1, but i could imagine too many guests would detract from the core IP, so i get what you mean 100%

I think a cool side mode would be a sort of monthly or bi weekly break the target thing where one map is made for everyone and everyone tries to speedrun it the fastest, competing with eachother on the leaderboards. Similar to how brawl made it non character specific. Theyd have to get creative I assume to make it so it doesnt always favor the speediest character, but im sure that is doable.

I'm more focused on the story mode. I have so many questions for that. Like is Wrastor gonna be one of those comic relief characters? And will some cutscenes be emotional?

The devs that work on characters or story mode content wouldn’t be the same people modeling or animating buddies!

@ I don’t know which team would be pulled from to do the modeling and animation but there’s so much to do. All the time spent on it and their ui could be put in to make another stage if not characters, or work on an additional minigame/training mode that they’re doing. Sigh. But hopefully it really turns out to be no big deal and that the time loss is minimal. At least characters won’t be affected like you said

Probably the costume department would handle all the modeling and animations. And the programmers would need to put in a minimal amount of effort, since all buddies do is just run around

I actually don't like the starters. There's like a pecking order of characters who abuse the smallest stages. between tempest, Godai, aetherian Forest. So it feels like you're just going to lose on a counterpick guaranteed even if you win on every other stage. And that's on top of not even considering what other stages are bad for your character. I would rather see Forest or tempest get rotated out

I have the opposite problem, other than forest and rock wall, the blast zones are comically large in general throughout the game and it's kind of annoying. the stage ground size imo matters a lot less with forest being the most polarizing if you adjust your play to fit the stage
