After listening to this song on repeat for a whole day, I realized the lyrics can be interpreted as someone visiting their friend in the hospital due to a terminal illness. The lines "scared of getting used to this... all the vines that keep you tethered in your room" could refer to hospital equipment. The invalid wants their friend to forget them and move on, saying they're just "a story", nothing more, so it hurts less. Then you have "let's pretend a little longer", "when I'm better we'll do everything... I gotta stop making promises I can't keep", and "someday I'll be overcast". It all ties together inevitable loss and the slow build to grieving. Fuck, it's good.

Yeah I feel that the same way, I've lost my dad too a few months ago. Its so depressing but at the same time beautiful that made me cry. The thing is no matter how hard it is to live with it I guess the message its right; Everything goes on. :,)

This song might be one of the saddest or maybe even the saddest song I have ever heard in my entire life. Allow me to explain: Most of the recent music culture has used love as the thematic for their songs and there have been many different routes the artists have chosen to talk about love, because it is such a complex and vast subject. There are songs about: toxic love, healthy love, love where one in the couple cheated the other, love where one of the two is obsessed with the other, love where the main goal is sex, love where they are going through a hard break up, love where one of the two is bitter about the break up... But this is the only song that I know, were the subject is a couple who still loves each other and the reason they have to separate is either death or something bigger than the couple (where neither of them had a choice in the separation.) That is devastatingly sad, incredibly depressing. I mean honestly the verse: You were staring at the window And I said, "I wanna take you to the sea And when I'm better, we'll do everything" I gotta stop makin' promises I can't keep I mean that verse is powerfully tragic. Fantastic song, makes me cry about a parting I haven't made yet and I hopefully I don't make anywhere near soon...

Really sad that Rakan had to sacrifice himself to save his loved one, Xayah, and vice-versa because Xayah doesn't want Rakan to die. But Rakan said "This is how it's gonna be." Rakan's sacrifice was the icing on the cake to this new lore/story for Star Guardians.
