You adding the Smosh song was the perfect moment dude. That song is honestly a f**cking banger and if you play it side by side with the original trailer (the one where Conner runs into a f**cking army), I believe it lines up perfectly. Truely, a unique peak for both AC and Smosh... two things we will never see in their entirety ever again.

Call him boring, I call him badass and driven. Connor has been a role-model in my life ever since I played the game when I was 10 years old. He may lack a sense of humour and complain a lot, but I always thought that was down to his traumatic upbringing. For most of his life, he's been responsible for an entire community. He has no time for jokes or fooling around. He expects nothing but high standards from others, but especially from himself, which is why he argues with people when they don’t meet his expectations. Anytime he receives a compliment, he always responds by saying something like, "I was just doing my part". He expects the most from himself, but always puts others first.

I love the side content of this game. From building up the Homestead, to creating and managing trade routes for said homestead. It just feels so real and the side characters are so believable. From the goofy loggers who are always arguing. To the miner who falls in love with the hunter who saves his life. To the couple who used to be slaves trying desperately to have a child. Just love it so much. Sure it's not always the best but you get to see Conner interact with people who aren't a means to an end or his enemies. Which goes a long way to making him a better character.

This game inadvertently saved my life. I had just gotten it on the 360, back when it released. Weekend finally hit, got out of school, played it the rest of the day. I was running around the homestead, doing some upgrades, ones I could at the early stages. I was going through some trees when I noticed black smoke pouring in through the top of my bedroom door in a trailer. Turns out my grandpa (who wasnt in the best shape at that time) had fell asleep cooking potato fries, and it caught half the kitchen on fire. I'm still convinced that if I wouldn't have been screwing around with the new parkour mechanics, I wouldve burned up in my sleep.

Connors acting is a great example of how some fans have their complaints because they only look at it to the extent of face value. They then react that it is not what they wanted there for it is bad. To them it does not matter that those desires are not realistic for the character in question. Ironically many times the complaints would have been resolved if they had simply looked deeper and analyzed why the character is the way that he is or decided to make a particular decision.

Unlike Altaïr and Ezio, Connor is facing the fact his culture, his heritage as a Mohawk, is dying due to overseas cultural invaders. The British coming and the mixing of cultures creating something new. This lends fire to his rage since his motivation to find Charles Lee is that he believes Lee responsible for the fire in his village and the death of his mother, seeing Washington as less of an ally after learning the truth. Connor can stop a sale of native land, but history tells us his battle is one he cannot win, which makes his cause all the more tragic for how right he is in it. Connor has to grow out of the black and white view he has at the start of his story, seeing the world and people in shades of grey which in turn make him more strategic in how he operates. There’s so much more to Connor than not being Ezio. Connor’s relationship with his father is also the first time the series used a father/son relationship to drive character interactions this much. Altaïr’s father was absent, and Giovanni was fridged to motivate Ezio’s initial bloodlust, but Haytham and his more nuanced view of the conflict are behind a couple of really interesting philosophical points made, and how they influence Connor. This echoed in the Modern Day, where a big part of Desmond’s story is reconciling with his estranged father and working out their rough history in between Animus sessions and power source heists.
@davidbeer5015

Bonus win on Connor's character, imo: Connor is often characterized by only wanting revenge for the burning of his mother and village. When learning that Washington may have been responsible (the years are.. a bit off for that as he waa supposedly retired by then), Connor chooses to act on the immediate threat, but also makes no move against Washington. He already knows the Templars want Washington gone, and he comes across as aware enough that attacking Washington would just play into their plans. Instead he just cuts ties and in the Benedict missions, stil shows some disdain, telling Washington he "reaps what he sows."

@alyumic4600 I say "may" due to the details that I added in parentheses, where, if I remember correctly, the year that Connor's village burned fwas during a time when Washington was said to be retired. I'm so glad to see a video of this game because it was always one of my favorite AC games growing up. I've always felt like I've been artificially moving it down my list of AC games because people around me kept saying they didn't like it, but I always liked Connor's character a lot. I always felt Connor's resolute stoicism at such a young age was a good contrast to the fiery bravado of the younger Ezio and it made Connor a character that was easier for me to understand earlier than I understood Ezio, though that may have something to do with the relentless march of time. The Homestead missions are, to this day, some of my favorite side quests in any game, as the stories they tell are satisfying, but the way the Homestead itself fills out as you complete the missions is an even more satisfying version of the Auditore mansion in AC2. The entire area becomes a home to you, and a community to everyone who moves there, and if you complete them as they come become available, even Achilles gets to appreciate some of the beautiful development of his land before his untimely death. I loved this game, and I'm glad to have some of the thoughts I've always had on it put in the forefront of some who so quickly write this game off.

The fight between the Assassins and the Templars is, Yin and Yang. Its all about a universal cosmic balance so its never ending. AC3 is the first real time the player actually gets to understand the Templar viewpoint. Rather than just Assassins (good) Templar (bad). It explores the murky gray area as nothing is ever black and white, despite how much we want it to to. The modern day elements of AC3 are also great at expanding upon this as we see Desmond struggle to find his place. In the end we only only do what we believe to be right based off what we believe to be true.

I remember my first time really playing this one, as I played it with each new sequence I would go to all the major areas just to check for homestead missions. I always looked forward to doing them and they did so much to build the world of the homestead and Connor's new family at the of the game

so for things we might take for granted now. The first time i played a game that has snow act like snow as i moved through it leaving a visable trench as i walked through it was Rise of the tomb raider. It was so mind blowing for me at the time because i always felt that dynamic stuff like that would be super intensive

Best part of Connor is that if you just play the story and are desperate to get things done, he's an asshole in all those missions. But if you play side quests like Homestead, in those he's kind and charitable. In other words, whether Connor is a single-minded prick hinges entirely on whether you are. So, those of you who hated Connor really did that to yourself. HAH!

I need to go replay this. It was my first AC game and I always loved it. The Haytham twist wasn't monumental for me because I hadn't grasped the whole assassins and templar thing, but I realized a bit later what actually happened.

I know Aqua touches on it in his video but pls do a video about the homestead and the assassin recruits, even if its just wins for every line of dialogue that Dobby has. It feels like a second story and every character you meet deserves so much love for the depth they bring to the game and Conor. Pretty Pls

The problem for me with the Templars are every seemingly good will thing they do tends to come with more strings attached than is worth it they want to help but only in a way that puts them in complete control

Watching these is a great way for me to catch up on the story since to be honest I've never been interested in playing any of the games even back when 2 blew up but.. I just finished my very first ac today (valhalla) that I really enjoyed because I'm Norwegian and wanted a viking game, and most of the complaints I've seen have been about the AC aspects of the game that I don't really care about im looking forward to you talking about the good parts... But I agree with fans that is WAAAAAY to long and allot of the story repeats to many times.. I did have many laugh out loud moments with the smaller missons and world events.. Anyways can't wait for you to get to it..

John de Lancie, Adrian Hough.... voice acting amazing... the history psyched my kid for 18th century research. Loved playing Desmond without a UI. The parkour was so smooth. The hours of philosophical discussion I've had with my kid since AC3 have been tremendous.

Assassin's Creed 3 is the game that introduced me to the series, i didn't get to play it or any that came before, the only Assassin's Creed i managed to play was Rogue and i was already at the end of my teens, but 3 introduced me to it and ever since then i watched every game on youtube and learned the lore, but the nostalgia 3 gives me and the fact it was one of the first games to show me what games is all about and the story that can come out with it, it is forever one of my favorite games.

Had to replay this; ended up finding itself in my top 3 AC afterwards. So lowkey good. Also, i was always so confused by the epilogue missions in the game, but on a replay they illustrated something pretty important to Connor’s journey. It went on to describe the upcoming problems america would face, showing evidence that Haytham’s thinking was true to some extent. This topped off with Connor’s soliloquy that is cut from the game, really just perfectly wrapped the game with a bow for me.

My relationship with AC3 was mostly fantasy growing up I was a huge fan of smosh and loved watching the trailers for this game while never getting to play it myself because I was pretty sure my family wouldn’t let me and because of this I “loved” the game it also had the advantage of being the first assassins creed game I knew and only a couple of years ago when I got my hands on the remaster I heard people saying it was bad and when I played it I could see what they meant but I still had a blast

Because of my love for this game and the amount of hours I played into it. Along with my love for history I was able to get a 3 on my APUSH test back in high school and was like one of the only ones to pass it cause one of the hardest free answer questions was relating to the revolutionary era and from this game I killed it.

Im not sure if this was pointed out already but there was a time where Achilles said to Connor "in your haste to save the world, don't destroy it" or something between those lines which shows that Achilles learned from his experience with Shay and the precursor site. Where he rushed to a site at all costs and didn't heed Shay's warning.

Ac3 was actually my entry into the franchise. My parents surprised me with it for my birthday, and the opening explanation for the previous 4 games had me hooked instantly. I stayed up playing it all night and played through about half the game before I finally fell asleep. I still remember how my jaw dropped when they revealed that haytham was actually a Templar.
