Fairy tail at the beginning was really good but after the constant use of friendship power throughout every battle, that was tiring. When they were in a pinch friendship power solve everything.

@@shakieltaylor9995 Fairy Tail had a very charming start with likeable and relatable characters, interesting world and nice "art style" lol. However as the story went on it became blatantly clear that the author refused to have any long lasting consequences or even tension for that matter. Literally every battle or issue is resolved by asspull power ups in the name of friendship. Not only that but Mashima would come up with bullshit ways to NOT kill or even majorly injure characters even tho they have lived way past than they should have and doing so would raise the stakes and keep the tension intact. Ultimately the lack of tension, cheap power ups and little to no danger to our main cast despite how the villains get hyped up along with lackluster pay offs (cough Igneel cough Zeref defeat cough Acnologia finale cough) really killed any credibility the series had once established. Early fairy tail is quite fun with its charming characters (at the time), gorgeous "art style" and kickass soundtracks. But the longer it goes the more mindless it gets so if you wanna check it out, keep that in mind.

One great thing about this first season is the fact that they are taking their time with each of the attacks, so it's not just 'wave a hand and the element moves'. There's a style to their magic, one that compliments their character. Natsu is a brawler and focuses on power, Gray having Technique and form, Erza... just Erza, and lastly Lucy Heartfilia. Lucy is amazing and despite being a Celestial Wizard, she's willing to enter the fray herself, not treating her Spirits as shield or minions (though Aquarius wouldn't tolerate that in the least bit (not spoiling anything because that's how she's introduced)), but as friends that she fights alongside, risking her own life though she doesn't necessarily have to. People want to hate on this, saying it's Friendship Plot BS to victory, but that's not actually the case as all. Yes, Friendship is there, but each of Team Natsu have their unique strengths and shows their individual battles and styles to great effect. This isn't a team that's a well oiled machine, these are strong willed, tenacious people who get on each others nerves and clash far more often than necessary. Add to that, they're STILL not getting along when they go and introduce OTHER characters comparable to Erza, who's already said to be incredibly strong and has not disproven that claim one bit. All due respect to the Japanese Voice Work too... but do forgive me for sticking with the English Dubs, because I have a disinterest in reading dialogue as well as watching action that goes on simultaneously, as I often have to back up the video to go through a second time to get the other half of the context.

But fairy tale goes far beyond motivation and leads to the main character becoming 100 times more powerful for no reason. If you want an anime that has heaps of friendship but not bullshit and has actual decent writing watch One Piece. If you want a link to start watching the series I can give you some

The 'frendship' Bs is bad, but it reminds me of the shows I used to watch as a kid. Whenever I watch Fairy Tail, I get this childlike joy that other shows just can't give me. Fairy Tail is an objectively bad show, but I still like it.

Erza taught me more about being brave and recognizing my own weakness as a young adolescent than my own parents. i loved it before I truly understood experienced the world of anime, and while i still have a small place in my heart for it I see nothing that fairy tale does which is even upto par or exceeds One Piece except the animation (but the animation in a few One Piece episodes trumps the best of fairy tales. Watch One Piece episode 870). I recommend every one who watches or watched Fairy tale to try One Piece

I'm not an anime fan, but I freaking love Fairy Tail. It simultaneously appeals to my teenage nature with it's mature humor, and reminds me of my childhood with it's campiness. I love the characters (especially Natsu and Erza), and the fights are amazing. I get why people criticize it, but I do think it's better why people give it credit for. P.S. I really want an Orion spirit in this show.

I used to be exactly like you, not an anime fan, but loved the humor, sense of family and fights in the show and had no idea why people shit on this show and I even defended it in the comments, but once I actually tried to watch One Piece with its 800 episodes, I understood, Every, single, thing that makes fairy tale great is mediocre when compared to One Piece except maybe the overall animation (except a few scenes in One Piece which are godly). I strongly recommend you to watch One Piece and if you want to watch a fight scene which could maybe cause you to start watching it watch One Piece episode 870. While there's stuff Fairy Tail doesn't deliver on at all the character's development, their story arcs and their terrific camradarie had me hooked for all of its hundreds of episodes. Gray, Gajeel, Master Makarov, Elfman, Mirajane, Laxus etc. all have wonderful story arcs and that's without even mentioning Erza who i simp for to a level only outmatched by Yoko. Genuinely love the entire cast of this anime and it made the entire thing so worth it. The music is just fantastic too.

What I like most about the first season is that instead of completely copying the art style of the manga (which if you compare is completely night and day), they opted to try and slightly alter it, but not enough to completely change the design. Take Erza for example, not only is her forehead not exposed (well, same goes for lucy), but they removed the sleeves of her blouse, letting the armor become more noticeable. Instead of it just being there with just the breastplate
