Honestly expected Fri to fail that last test, as soon as seeing Serie be the admin for it. Just had a feeling it would be a case of "family" issues; like how siblings sometimes won't acknowledge each other simply because they are siblings (seen that in some of my friends and families cases). Serie is like Fri's older sister sometimes to me in this anime... at least how I read that room. But to answer the question... assuming it exists in that world; my favorite spell would be one that lets me have access to any one other "copy magic" if you will. Because even though there is so much magic out there in that world; you cannot always learn the spell you want; this is not actually a cheat... the balance is you would copy the by the book version of the spell; not the personally perfected version that properly learning a spell would grant. For example I could copy the Zoldyk spell that Fern uses; but it would be the OG version as it was originally devised. We already saw how that's a weakness. My point being is I like being able to cast any spell I want... copy magic would then allow me to copy any magic; even ones I do not know personally, its my visualization that chooses the spell being copied; but it can only copy what has actually existed in the past or at present. What spell would be your favorite?

Thanks to Naruto's Shadow Clones being so OP; I find cloning powers rarely that impressive after all so many of them are (pun intended) carbon copy of each other. Mr. 4 eyes tho actually never once being an actual body throughout the test... kinda blew my mind. I paused the episode and gave myself a minute or two and processed that info it impressed me so much. Only Twice in MHA ever impressed me that much beside this person. cloning where the clones are disposable but still are more than just tools is just unheard of in most cases. Thats why I was so impressed. In Twices case the fact he can't and no one truly could determine WHO was the OG body or if the OG was still around is what impressed me so greatly. Take Mr. 3 in One Piece as the example of the problem I normally have with clone powers (or Bon-chan for that matter); used really well sure; but only an idiot would rely on sight to determine who the "real" one is; and wax figures are statues that do not breath. toss some tear gas and Mr 3 is easily found. Twice or this guy from Frierin on the other hand it would be hard to tell because all would react or smell or taste so similar that the small details could be missed realistically.

Ubel enters the room: “hmm, I think I can cut that.” Serie: _Uh, fuck that_ YOU PASS. PLEASE LEAVE NOW.

21:28 something I myself find win-worthy, is the sheer attention to even the smallest details and absolute dedication to not leave any plotholes hanging -even if most viewers wouldn't even notice them in the first place. When Übel kicks off the duel, as she runs you can see how she deliberately cuts open the ground in front of her in multiple locations, to send dust and debris flying into the air. On the surface it looks like just a cool effect, but it's 100% intentional by her. It's the only way she can ensure that her clone can't use the Sorganeil binding spell on her before she's able to close the distance, by visually obscuring her body as she runs towards her. Such a small detail, not explained in the moment at all, but when you pay notice to these subtle details and ask yourself "why is this happening" -there's always a perfect explanation for every bit of detail and effect. This show is just on another level.

One of my favorite little moments in this part was when Serie says that the old man didn’t notice the fluctuations in her mana. This one line tells us Serie is far more powerful than we could imagine.
@FloundFahrdienst6 ай бұрын
Its not even that. Its build up to Fern being able to see the fluctuations in Series mana. Its THE big payoff
@Real_MisterSir6 ай бұрын
Also tells us that what Leinen was so praised for, Fern casually bested him at without a second of doubt. Now that's amazing power scaling and in-between explanations
@Ryodraco6 ай бұрын
Well maybe not more than we can imagine. Assuming Serie is copying what Flamme and Frieren did, then it means her actual mana level is about ten times that of Frieren.
@bernieburton65206 ай бұрын
Frieren suppresses way more than just down to 10% of her mana. When Flamme tells Frieren to suppress her mana to 10% she says First Start by suppressing your mana to 10% and holding it there. That 10% was just the training level. At this point, if we look at the difference between Frieren regularly and when she shows her mana to Aura, that looks far closer to Frieren being able to maintain just a 1% constant output. Now, Serie is who knows how old but it's hinted that she's actually been around since prehistoric times in this world and has actually watched humans form civilization. That she is from the Age Of Mythology, somewhere in the 10,000 years range. Now, Serie suppresses her mana but it's impossible to tell how much. 90%, 95%, 99%. It's impossible to know.
@Ryodraco6 ай бұрын
@@bernieburton6520 you may well be right, but didn't Aura state Frieren's mana was that of someone who had trained for a century? The actual amount was over a thousand years, which is ten times what Aura thought, hence my assumption that the suppressed level Frieren maintains is indeed 10%. So Flamme saying for her to first start doing that would have meant doing that was her starting lesson to Frieren, not the starting level of suppression. Which would fit with the idea that Serie is over ten thousand years old, since her suppressed mana is equal to Frieren's true mana, i.e. a tenth of Serie's true mana.

I love the meta symbolism of the ending of season 1. Some anime season have big bombastic ending, tragic epilogues or teeth clenching cliffhangers. Frieren... just ends with a quiet "We'll see each other again." Himmel's philosophy of goodbyes touches us past the fourth wall. "Tearful goodbyes aren't our style," he says and immediately after the song lyrics goes: "Crying excessively. Wanting you to smile" as Himmel's last words flows as he passes into the light and right before the credits roll: "After all, *it would be embarrassing when we meet again.* " (the words in bold are the title of the final episode) This series is SO GOOD!!!

I had hoped that during the Fern+Frieren vs. clone Frieren fight you would have picked up on how Fern, using the opening Frieren created for her, didn't just get one, but two shots in, taking both of clone Frieren's arms in rapid succession. The first hit was due to surprise, but the second because clone Frieren didn't manage to retaliate fast enough to avoid being hit a second time, costing her her staff-arm. Fern's advantage, being just a super quick caster, is exactly what was at play for that second hit.
@cedricgagne27226 ай бұрын
Rather small detail that often goes unnoticed but in a small conversation Ehre tells Wirbel that she’d present him to her grandfather. Then in the final montage we can see her seemingly present Lernen to her new friends, implying that he is her grandfather, which would explain her large mana and skill levels.

The battle scenes are not only beautifully animated, they are stuffed full of small visual storytelling details that reveal more about the magic system and the power scaling, all without ever being directly mentioned. For example, we see Frieren in her mirror match use versions of spells of the same magic types that we previously saw were the specialities of many of the other human mages. She had a rapid movement spell like Laufen's Jilwer, earth and rock spells like Ehre and Richter, fire and wind spells like Denken, and created a golem, like Lernen. In most cases her version of that magic was even more powerful than the one used by the other human mage. However, her golem was not as sophisticated or refined as Lernen's bottle golem. Which foreshadows just how skillful and powerful Lernen really is.

I love so many things of the back half. This entire anime has been so good, but things from Ubel understanding the nitty gritty of magic but "trumping" it by having a logic-defying imagination, to Methode being an excellent all-rounder who seemingly has an answer to everything (and a thing for cute elves), to Fern being teased to be on Demon King levels (at least in terms of mana detection when she called out Serie, but also pushing Frieren to use that "Height of magic" spell which Frieren mentions she was forced to use 80 years ago which is when she fought the Demon King), to Fern just picking out a spell that saves her a lot of time since she knows better than most how little time she'll have in this world... My favourite though is how Frieren and Himmel's dynamic worked. Frieren's entire journey is treading the path she walked with Himmel and reminiscing over how great a person he was... And knowing that she's the one who first inspired him as a young boy, with a beautiful field of flowers. Knowing he loves flowers too, probably because of that... The whole story is such a wholesome bundle of everything coming full circle, it's amazing.

My interpretation on the Land Übel situation is that as Übel says, if she sympathizes with someone then she can use their magic, and Land’s clone ability is a really useful that she wants, so she trying to get closer to him to take it, but the problem is that Land is a very tightly closed book who gives nothing away. Also when Frieren says it’s been about 80 years since she was forced to use that spell, she’s most likely talking about the Demon King. They fought the Demon King about 80 years ago.

I remember reading that the animation team for Frieren's fights worked on Chainsaw Man

Amazing series for an even more amazing show. Frieren is one of my few 10/10 shows that I’ll gladly recommend to new anime watchers now.

43:30 I think it’s being implied that Frieren last used the magic that flung Fern into the wall was against the Demon King.

I just realised something while watching this vid in the fight between umbell and her clone the clone cut the ground to create walls of dust to prevent that eye thing or I guess it could have been umbell herself either way so smart

18:08 Someone on Reddit pointed out how you can spot the difference between whe Wirbel or Ubel is casting the restraining spell: Wirbel's lines are straight and neat, whereas Unel's are bent and messy.

You missed the part where it was revealed that 1. Lernen was the "old fashioned offensive mage" that Ehre was refering to because he is her grandpa. 2. The humunculus in the bottle magic is Lernen's favorite magic

0:15 Frieren sounds like Free-ren.😊 13:42 it's an isekai like ign said but In their defense, Himmel was like an isekai gamer. He took on every quest, helped everyone, explored every dungeon 100%, was on a journey to defeat the endboss, tried to romance the only female in his party and didn't get rid of useless loot(that shadow dragon horn from episode 1).😁 14:52 "We are defenders of the night. We are Gargoyles."😊 15:16 the manga did not show how the girl got pushed into the spikey room. 22:57 the whole scene with the hidden room and the mural is anime original. Love it.😊 24:28 if they ever tell Sein about this, he will surely cry.🤣 25:15 says "we're not fighters" and then 25:54 makes Toph proud. 😁 38:35 there was no blood splatter in the manga.😱 1:00:00 His attacks are so powerful that they easily break her defense. That's intense.😱😨

1088... Record keeper jot that down we have a record here for single season anime. Serie is such a Tsundere. As a manga reader i look forward to the coming arcs being animated if they maintain this quality. look forward to those arcs as we will meet familiar faces and learn more about them. Btw frieren didnt remain hidden for 1000 years she actually went on a demon killing spree that ended because of the main villian of one of the arcs that will be covered.

Immutable truths of dungeons: 1. Exploration, 100% is mandatory....gotta map it all. 2. The most dangerous opponent for a character is another character.... The most dangerous character is a copy of yourself. 3. Never fight your own copy alone.Always bring a friend or switch it up.

I loved the fact that Frieren got banned for 1000 years, Serie is being dead serious about not being her biggest fan! Of course it is also sad to think that even 1000 years WILL pass for Frieren so at some point in time she will be allowed back (although probably immediately kicked out again). I was not a big fan of how the final "test" went however. I understand the reasoning behind it, too many entrants, but some of those dismissals were just rude. Sure some of them are not the absolute strongest but such a dismissal is cruel. I did however like that I couldn't tell if Serie was planning on failing everyone and changed her mind because of Fern, or if she was always planning on passing those she did and her experience with Fern didn't change her opinion on the matter.
@nemasisdemarini83396 ай бұрын
Serie wasn't planning one way or the other. Primarily, it seemed, her immediate judgement for weather they fail or not was weather or not they were intimidated or scared of her. If they are, they fail. Full stop. If they aren't, than she would be willing to discuss with them, and make a judgement based on that. She most definitely was *expecting* to fail most of them, though. That's why she's pleasantly surprised by the end, and apologizes to Sense.

That flower spell essentially lead to the destruction of the demon king. A “useless” spell of high importance.
