One little gag that I wish got more attention is the surplus "clickety-click" noises every time someone handles or brandishes a gun. They're mocking the way that, in a regular action movie, whenever someone points a pistol (for example) at someone else, the sound department will foley in a little clicky-click noise - here, they take it to a ludicrous level. It's most obvious when the squad is running over the road towards the supermarket - nobody is touching safety catches, or triggers or cocking levers, or bolt handles, but the guns are constantly going clickety-clickety-clickety-click in the background.

My favorite detail in the whole movie is this: Throughout the film, the NWA-members greet Angel with "morning" when he first takes a jog through the village, but he doesn't say "morning" back. Until right before he begins the shoot-off, where the word he says to set it off is "Morning.".

What makes Hot Fuzz a master class in film writing is that there is not a single wasted line of dialogue. Every single line has a purpose, be it comedy, character-based interactions, set-up for what comes later, or red herrings. It's then topped off perfectly with visuals, doing the same with shots. It's about as close to perfect as I think a movie can be.

Honestly the relationship between Angel and Danny has got to be my favourite. Like you said it's set up perfectly and the subtle romantic undertones from the borrowed lines adds to how genuine they feel. It feels like they both really needed each other cause if they both just went down the path they were going then Angel would probably be totally fine and successful (if his department wasn't so corrupt) but would be absolutely miserable while Danny would have totally been inducted into the NWA and brainwashed by his manipulative dad into thinking it's what his mum would have wanted.

I always find it interesting that, in the very beginning, Angel gets a call from Frank saying that he's going to have a nice cabin to live in, but immediately after gets told it isn't ready. You originally think that it's just to make you feel even worse about his situation, but you realize on repeat watches that the reason it isn't "ready" is because they want him to stay in the hotel so they can keep an eye on him and have easy access to his room. Edgar Wright, man...

I had managed to somehow forget that Wicker Man was a thing, and I have to admit that I'm not too happy to be reminded😬 Please don't take it personally, I'm just one of those who can't stand it when the MC doesn't come out the victor. I also can't stand it when food goes to waste, like the final scene in The Departed or even the ambush on the retired captain in S3 of AtLA (yes, even in animated films). In fact, I might just dislike the wasting of perfectly good food more than the MC getting dropped. With a sense so skewed from what I percieve as the norm, I don't really expect people to take my comments about films too seriously, so please don't pay too much attention to it.

So, arguably, Hot Fuzz is legitimately one of the greatest movies of all time. Its attention to detail, its snappy directing and dialogue are all master classes in cinema. I absolutely adore this film for how much it packs into one movie, where half of the movies with a bloated and over weighted budget cram half as little in a longer running time. I know it gets its due but honestly, it deserves more accolade for how incredible it really is. Mentioning the whole on watch X number is so spot on as it takes so many rewatches to really get to grips with the details that you miss even the fourth time around. Even now on watching this, about watching a movie and pointing out its good bits, I noticed something I've never noticed before. The shop doesn't even sell cigarettes or tobacco. The cabinet behind the shopkeeper (whose name escapes me) normally would have cigarettes and tobacco products in, but they are so set on looking morally superior they stuffed it with arguably just as terrible sweets, chocolates and fizzy drinks. They even changed the sign to say "Confectionary" instead of "Cigarettes". See! Details! Just a masterpiece.

For me, there's the addition that (itself) adds enormous hilarity it was filmed 10 miles down the road from me in Wells, Somerset....where literally nothing happens! The fact that the local Somerfield (now a Co-Op) supermarket hosted one of the film's highlights, the shoot out ("What's the situation?", "Two Blokes and a fuck-load of cutlery!") had me crying with laughter in itself! Actually Somerfield literally said "go to town boys!" when asked if the supermarket could be used in a climatic shoot-out. Also shooting up the local pub/ Swan Hotel (The Crown; which doubled up as the Entrance to the Swan Hotel) .......which is actually called "The Swan Hotel" just magic!!

Smallest correction: the sound effects while shooting in the pub are diegetic. Most pubs here have "fruit machines" which are like arcade gambling machines with those kinds of sounds. I had never even heard of this movie until this and the last episode. I decided to watch it and I have to say thank you for introducing me to a brilliant film that even after having the plot explained before I watched it, I was genuinely surprised at the unveiling of villains. It is such a well written movie that the plot holds up past the first viewing which many movies can't do as well.

When I saw that not only was there a video about how great it was but 2 parts I was delighted. Then after I watched I read a lot of the comments and was so happy that so many people had appreciated not just Hot Fuzz but Shaun of the Dead as well. this is perhaps my favourite channel on youtube and I'm not >exacerbating< it I'm serious, when I found your channel I didn't give that much of a chance as it was at a time when many people were satirising cinemasins to the point it got annoying (and don't like cinemasins but people really were pushing hard to hate on the guys) and then when I finally got to watch a video of yours I realised how special it really is, you took the format cs invented and took it to a whole new level, you made it so much better, you simply understood how the different pacing of this kind of video could benefit the review itself, I didn't care about the cinemasins=bad channels because even if they had good points most of them didn't do much than just point it out, whilst you made the opposite, you perfected it without ever even making any direct references to them, you actually made it your own thing, most of the time I don't even remember cinemasins exist when I'm watching your videos, plus you're just such a nice person and that's made so clear every time I open up a video, you deserve all the succes in the world and much more, congrats on the channel

I love Hot Fuzz so much! :D This movie is so spectacular in so many ways. Packed with recurring jokes, visual gags, callbacks and homages to other movies, and so consistently hilarious. Even on the 20th viewing! I personally also appreciate that they ended up removing the female love interest and focused on their friendship instead (and giving the lines to Nick became a hilarious end product of that decision, lol). A romantic plot in this movie honestly seems unnecessary, though this may just be how I see it. (I view a lot of romantic relationships in current shows and movies as forced and uncalled for, tbh). It just works so well and feels like a condensed version of everything I love. I'm probably not even making sense anymore because someone else appreciating this movie fills me with way too much joy and excitement and just aaAAAAHHh I love this movie

I agree. A lot of romantic things in TV shows & movies are forced & uncalled for. They seem to be there more to cater for those who can't bear anything without a love story in it, however clumsy or unnecessary.

I've changed my mind about which is my favourite of the trilogy many times. I tend towards The World's End because I feel like the emotional core of that movie is really strong. I like that at the NWA meeting Danny's dad is wearing an older police uniform (with the higher helmet and cape) as it fits with the cloaks the rest of the NWA are wearing and is old fashioned (like most of the town) he could well have been surveying the area to make sure no one could get in and surprise them (like Angel did but he could have been at another part and went over when he heard Angel talking)
