Just a bit this anime has spider chains story immediately after the isekai event with spiders having such a short hatching time and the human story 15 years later. At the end there it was trying to hint hint nudge nudge the demon lord girl might be spider Chan in the future with them both having spider web powers, abyssal magic, and having killed a earth dragon. Another hint and a slap in the face of the time jump is you see the first mercenary’s burning down spider Chana nest early on and stealing the dragon egg she stole, then in a later episode apart of this first half set you see Julius explaining the scarf and the dragon shin has was the result of that mercenary group

My dude after you finish the anime you HAVE to read the light novel. I sadly doubt they’ll make a season 2 due to how bad the anime performed, but the story gets so much better as it progresses. By the later chapters, the rather simplistic magic/skills system starts to get so complex, and the story gets so many twists, I love it.

Something you might not have heard about: the CGI for this show was done by a different company, and it was so bad they had to redo it. The CGI you see in this show is the second better CGI that was redone.

There are two things that go a long way into clearing up certain things that leave the viewer confused about what's going on: 1. How we perceive Kumoko is how Kumoko perceives herself - as a cute, hilarious, yet a monster that has worked her ass off to become as strong as she is. But how the rest of the world views her is completely different - she's the most terrifying being in the existence of the Elroe Labyrinth, both visually and in terms of power. 2. The events of Kumoko's story happen ~15 years prior to the events of everyone else's story. This isn't spoiler, either - this is revealed when they discuss the spider silk scarf (the spider silk which was produced by Kumoko) and the wyrm egg which eventually Fei was hatched from. And yes - Kumoko almost ate Fei long before she was born. They made a much bigger deal of this in the LN and how this was a major regret that Kumoko had avoided.

@@MrKlausbaudelaire I cannot wait till we see his reaction to Vampy's power relative to the "hero" only to see her call (spoiler) "Master" (Yes i realize the spoiler is explained in the run of the anime, but in case someone has not gotten that far in the anime i have kept that name left out). That realization that this insanely overpowered character who is not even remotely trying is beating the entire hero cast, calls someone else "master" gives such a realization of the power gap between shun's party and the real power houses in the story.

I can't think of a way they could have slowed the show down any without risking bogging down the MC's character growth or running out of episodes before they finished the kinda sorta arc. Since the manga is telling the story in chronological order, I really wonder how they are going to handle introducing the human stories. (other than Sophia, Wrath, Kunihiko and Asaka)

Ya they did but due to budget constraints they sorta had too. It does a good job of introducing you to the subject matter though, so once you get to read the LN you go back and re-watch the anime, and some payoffs make way more since. The anime even hits at payoffs that don't even occur till beyond the current anime (example: kumoko's REAL identity is hinted at as early as episode 1 and in flashbacks)

Her scream when she killed Araba was one of the best moments in my opinion. It radiated so much pain and self distress, and was just another great performance of the voice actor as well.

Her killing Araba wasn't a necessity, he didn't find and attack her intentionally, there was no real reason to kill him. Except, to prove that she could. That she was no longer a weak little monster, and could take on anything if she fought hard enough. And when he turns off all his resistances, and just exept his death, throwing away his pride, just baffles her. She doesn't eat him, and she instead ensures there is no body left behind. I just like everything about the fight.

The light novel contained a ton of mystery for the identity of Kumoko. Red herrings galore. Every time you thought you had it nailed, you were wrong. And they definitely didn't do the human half justice. Honestly, with the anime I got annoyed when they switched to humans, but in the LN their parallel story was very interesting and well done. If you heard nothing about the story and didn't watch the anime, it would take you quite a while to find out that Kumoko's story is happening a long time before everyone else's.

There is also another thing not mentioned in the anime, Araba being a dragonic being is VERY prideful. To use all those skill points to level up and get new skills JUST FOR ONE SPIDER shows he not only respects her as a combatant but also realized he stood no chance against her unless he swallowed his pride.

Kumoko is such an awesome character, showing all kinds of emotions from fear to sadness and happiness. A lot of protagonists are one or two note, not this girl and then the addition of the separate personalities just allows her to bounce off herself for more fun. PS. Shout-outs to Xenoblade Chronicles always gets a win in my book, and you are totally right about the similarity between the two worlds, especially random high level monsters showing up to ruin your day.

To explain the bad CGI: The main company outsourced the CGI portions to a different company, and what they got back was so bad that they had to re-do it. If you see bad CGI, it's them taking *even worse* CGI and trying to make something good. The unfortunate thing is that you can really see the bad CGI crop up more and more in the latter part of the season. Literally, the company had nothing they could do as it seems like it was a process that was tried and true, and it bit them in this one really unfortunate instance. My hope is that they are able to continue animating the show, as the story is *really good*. However, I would also understand if it gets scrapped because of the god-awful CGI that the outsourced company produced. My heart goes out to the main production studio and staff as it sucks to be in that situation, especially since they apparently got a lot of really negative comments about it.

Yeah. They had to cheap out on some of the last epsidoes of the first season, and had to resort to CGI for much of the final battles, or straight up not show them. IMO, the best part of this anime, except for all the amazing world, characters, powers and story, is how well they combine animation and CGI to such a high level

@@Teraclon What I heard was that there was either problems with the quality of the outsourced cuts or the cuts were never delivered/completed. Which would make sense since there are scenes in the last few episodes where it goes from quality 2D to very rushed looking 3D then back to quality 2D again. Clearly the 3D section was meant to be another 2D cut. Streaming numbers were still good, so hopefully we get a season 2 because it's going to be crazy!

Man, as someone who absolutely loves "so I'm a spider so what." It was amazing listening to this from the perspective of someone who has no idea what is going on. Just listening to the Op here trying to guess what is going on, and being so insanely off in some cases is wild! I cannot wait to see his reaction to ep13-24. And dare I hope, his reaction to the actual Light Novel. IT has been a pleasure listening to this, and thank you for actually listening to the human side of the story! So many skip over that section because its "boring" at times; but its VERY important. The payoffs that come latter are insane!!

actually the whole future timeline is better off being skiped in my opinion since it just spoils future stuff and just ruins a lot. it's better if you just wait until it becomes relevant. when it is originally shown it's just boring stuff that cuts from the fun spider part that people come to this show for.

The 2 best books in the series so far (11/12) have almost no shiori at all and focus on other characters. It's just a shame that the anime does such a terrible job of showing that part of the story.

@@dmlanse just saying but i am not saying to remove that entirely but simply relocate it where it belong time wise. volume 11 was so shit to read when when the majority (near totality) was about the dead hero's party. i am sorry but once he is dead bringing him back and talking about it when it brings nothing to the future is just plain anoying to me. if i read his side of the story before i knew he and his whole party died(besides shield dude) then i could have probably been a bit invested in his story. but since the freaking serie spoils it itself it basically just says that yeah those charaters aren't really important. so if the serie itself frame them like this then why the fuck should i care about them. the same also apply a bit to volume 12 but at least i could manage a little bit more interest since it was much closer to the main character but still not has much has if i was going in blind with no clue of the outcome. overall volume 11 is so bad becaus of this that it is the worse book of all the light novel series i have read.

21:35 for that point I kinda wanna say that's also very present in tesnura, it's just that we got a lot of examples in the parts beyind the anime. The earlier point about how Kumo is the only anime where people actually pray to that AI level-up voiceis also tied to that, Kumo's system with level ups and skills make it understandable why they would vener it, people have more occcasions to hear said voice than in other animes with that kind of voice (using Tensura as an example again, it' said in the lore at some point that most monsters, let alone humans, very rarely have the occasion to hear it, like hearing it twice in a lifetime is already seen as lucky, while in Kumo it's common enough that a whole religion (and a large and influent one at that) is all about said voice).

To talk about spoilers without spoiling. One thing I love after reading the story. The hidden details peppered in all the way back to episode/chapter 1, appraisal being a prime example. Or the fact that spider almost ate one of the class before she hatched. Such an easily overlooked detail until the reveal. Like when I figured out the timeline, it makes it fun to go back and rewatch.

42:53 I think you're just a little more observant than they expected. They were trying to make us believe that demon lord IS Spider-dono (aka Kumoko, which she calls herself in the ED) in the future/present day. All the clues pointed there, like the earth dragon fight referenced, having the abyss ability, the spider thread she used in the meeting, and the Witcher style time difference between the two stories. Not to mention the Demon Lord skill she picked up in episode 5.

One of my favorite things of this series is that, while I dabble in LNs here and there, I'm primarily a Manga reader and get my ones to watch from checking out manga, and so when I first watched the show I had no idea of all the human side shenanigans which kept me engrossed even while rehashing the more simple parts of her early life, and it make sense to break up her grind(even though I still would have loved to see more of the grinding tbh)

I loved the fight between Kumo and Araba in the manga. He spared Kumo when she was weak because she wasn't worth the energy to crush. It was mortifying and terrifying for her, she was grateful to be alive but also very bitter of why she was spared. And with pride she developed herself to eventually beat Araba. But after seeing the dragon accepting his fate with satisfaction like an old warrior bested in battle where she herself struggled so hard to live broke her. We the audience went on the journey with her and saw every struggle she fought through to be so strong. But it wasn't until that moment when Kumo became so angry and hateful towards Alaba for not fighting harder to survive that I actually felt like I knew what she was feeling. She didn't even eat Alaba. She could have just waited for him to die and eat his body like she's always done but she completely removed him from the world. That's how much she hated his decision.

My first encounter with this series was manga adaptation. It was a great read but didn't understood the hate of light novel readers towards it until i realised when I watched the 1st episode of the Anime. Manga follows only kumoko side while Anime and light novel has both her and humans side and so i decided to read the light novel when 4th episode came out. This is the 3rd isekai Anime of which i decided to read the light novel and i am very happy to say that I don't regret of reading it. I've read it till volume 10 and I'm still very much excited to read next volume of it. I've never felt this excited while reading a book.

I think part of the reason I enjoy this anime so much is that while other anime use cgi as a crutch, this one based the majority of its animation around it and made cgi into part of it’s art style.

Alaba was pretty much the first creature/person Kumoko formed an emotional bond with. He was trully strong, Kumoko admitted it herself, first by pure feelings and then by proper Appraisal and seeing the battle with King Cobra. He also was sapient, he behaved like a "Warrior" (in Ruijerd's sence of the word). So when Kumoko became a strong Warrior herself by repeatedly challenging impossible odds to survive and live with Pride she came to opinion, that trully strong should be like her. She perceived their battle as two entities fighting for survival with their all, she would not hesitate to run if she lost, kill Alaba when he showed a shadow of weakness or other means to win at all cost. When Alaba spend his "life-savings" (the nature of which was not yet revealed to us at the moment of their battle, but both Kumoko and Alaba knew their importance) she took it as confirmation that his worldview is similar. And when he surrendered, she realised the harsh truth - Alaba was not like her at all, he was a "Samurai", he would prefer honorable death to survival at all costs. Their connection and his betrayal was the reason she decided against "preserving" Alaba in herself (by eating the body) and destroyed him completely with Rot. It was a culmination of her first charater ark, it was beautiful in WN, LN and Aoi Yuuki really delivered, though. Good anime, great story and VA, some problems with animation production but I really thinkthey should have chosen the Mushoku Tensei way of handling the novel and made a long anime, to preserve many great things that are in WN and LN.

One win for me was the fact that there are Trap skills that seem good, but have major downsides. Appraisal for most people causes major headaches before it will say more than just "rock". I love the "the floor is made of floor" moment. Detection is even worse, AND it replaces all similar skills. The skill system exists, and it was created for a purpose. Aoi Yūki really carries the show here - if you know what's actually happening to Kumoko mentally, you can hear the changes in her voice. Plus she gave an incredible performance in the 1st cour ending song. Yes, she sang that in one take. Another thing is that there are clues to the future buried in even the early episodes. There are red herrings too. And morality in this world is not black and white. Everything is shades of gray.

Love this anime. I've watched through it like 3 times. The premise might seem like a hard one to make & keep interesting or exciting, but they pulled it off with authority. You'd think the story line with with the rest of the reincarnated class would be the more interesting part, but the spider girl struggling to survive blows it out of the water. You'd never suspect a spider to be best girl, but she pulled it off. And with all the stuff happening that isn't completely clear at the time, you can rewatch the entire thing and see it in a new light. Huge credit to the author(s) for all the great work.

Highly recommmend to go read the LN after you watch the anime cause its so good. Trust me cause im not the type to read light novels so you its good when me a non novel reading guy binged read the entire thing( just got to Vol.8 ik its not the entire thing but still) in a 2 weeks

So your definitely gonna like part 2, but also I heavily recommend the LN SO MUCH MORE. The light novel is also a bit different from the anime but equally provides so much more info and interesting backstory to many character. Really good and definitely recommend!

I hope he gets to the next segment. I loved this anime and every episode I watched diligently with a friend and we had so many genuine freak outs and heavy debates. It was ridiculous in the BEST way. This best part is that everyone was born at the same time, the majority of them humans so as everyone else is a struggling infant not even with open eyes yet Kumoko is already like level 40 destroying the dungeon. Hell once she gets out of the dungeon she finds one of her infant schoolmates and legit forces her to walk and fight with strings to make her stronger faster. READ THE MANGA IT IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE WE HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THE OTHER CLASSMATES AND THE HERO WAS A KID. SO GOOD!!!
