I wish you had winned my favorite line from Happy's "pep talk." "No one can live up to Tony. Not even Tony." Just letting him know hey, stop chasing the legend of iron man. You'll never catch it, not because you're not good enough but because it doesn't exist. It's a legend and not even the man behind it could catch it. He tore himself up trying to catch it just like you're doing right now. To me that was the part that let Peter out of Tony's shadow.

There's a *win* that you missed, in Homecoming, Happy didn't even give a damn about Peter, with having to basically babysit him and be his chauffeur and whatnot, but in this movie, after Endgame, Happy acts like a second father towards Peter because he knew this kid just went through A-LOT of Hell. Thanos wiping him out, being crushed alive under a buildng, getting injured in the Endgame war, and the worst of all: Watching Tony die right in front of him...

Personally, I think Happy is implicitly trying NOT to be a father figure for Peter, just kind. He understands what Peter is going through, but he doesn't want to be yet another father figure (hence why especially in the beginning he's trying to not seem like he's flirting with Aunt May, who is a maternal figure for Peter). He relates to and feels for Peter, but also knows a father figure isn't who he needs right now. Either way, Happy is always a win.

It honestly is one of my favorite lines in the whole MCU when Happy talks to Peter. "No one could live up to Tony. Not even Tony." This was an understated line of genius as the first Tony literally lost, so he had go back in time as another version of himself to be the hero who sacrified everything, saved Earth and still died. Mysterio is one of those villains I wasn't sure how they'd make the transition work (not that I'm well versed on the comic version) but tying things back to Tony Stark in a similar way to Vulture worked incredibly well on multiple levels. I actually found it more fun because of that. I came into the movie knowing Mysterio was the villain, because... well, Mysterio, duh. Seeing the scene where the band kids suddenly appear in the middle of the basketball court and run into the players has always made me wonder, what would happen if you were standing directly where someone else was standing, and they got snapped back into existence? Would you just get pushed out of the way, or like both you just die instantly in a bloody mess? Or like what would happen if you were standing somewhere, let’s say on a cross walk, and when you re appear, there is a car right where you re appear, you would most likely get chopped into little bits

The other neat thing about that statement is that "Tony" and "Iron Man" were also characters to the MCU. Tony's been in the news all his life, both as "Tony Stark, genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" and "Iron Man, Avenger, Earth's Defender". Being a celebrity, a stigma was created that he *_had_* to act and be a certain way. People had expectations of him that they wanted him to live up to as a public persona. But Tony couldn't live up to the expectations put on him as both Tony Stark and Iron Man, and he realized that lesson painfully well in Endgame. I'd even argue that meeting Peter helped Tony realize that.

Mysterio was such a memorable villain to me because he played with all of the tropes of a superhero - Can't stop posing before and through action - Capes - Quips - Generic energy projection with blasts, repulsion, stationary can't-hold-it-much-longer magic shield, - One-liners - Self-sacrifice with a convenient last energy blast - Bonding moments knowing the right thing to say - World-threatening events with generic monsters destroying random stuff - Kooky codename - Superman-ish beacon of hope - Contrived, tragic backstory with lost family (attention to detail win here since Beck does wear a holographic wedding ring under the holographic left glove, or... real. Beck really got me in what's real or fake) All in order to be a believable superhero, Beck really blurred the line of what makes a hero and how characters are built. And casting Jake Gyllenhaal!? A guy so versatile that not even checking his filmography wouldn't help define of that would be a different version of Mysterio who would actually be a hero. PITCH PERFECT

Spiderman is probably the superhero I'm most familiar with; I knew darn well Mysterio was a Spidey villain and I STILL bought the whole "alternate reality hero Mysterio" lie hook line and sinker. One of the best scenes had to been when Peter questioned if it was actually Happy in the tulip field with the private jet. Holland's emotions of fear and paranoia were so well portrayed, the audience felt every bit of it and were pleased when Peter hugged Happy. It makes sense since Peter just went through mental and physical torture, causing him to doubt everything which also relates to Beck's manipulation and his goal to crush Peter by using everything he likes against him. So Peter would fear if Happy was a trap because he really cares for Happy and knows that Beck could've tapped his call and use him against Peter.

my favorite theory about Spidey sense in these movies is that when he gets dusted in infinity war, it literally fucks his spider sense six ways from Sunday, because everyone around him, everyone in the universe even, is in mortal peril, and he can sense it all happening at once and it's like trying to charge your phone by getting it struck by lighting. it almost completely destroys his ability to use spider sense, couple that with him losing a mentor and possible PTSD from the end game fight (I mean it was basically I high schooler in the middle of a warzone, getting PTSD is not the most unbelievable thing that could happen) so the plot of FFH is him re-learning and maybe even rediscovering his spidey-sense, building it up again after having the weight of the world's expectations on his shoulders for the longest time. maybe it even caused him to learn how to use it to the best of his ability, or to trust it more completely. maybe the reason why his spidey-sense is underutilized in homecoming is because he hasn't been spider man very long, so he doesn't trust his spidey-sense completely yet, and far from home is him learning how to trust himself.

Two wins i think he missed: 1) Whenever we see Mysterio flying around or using his powers, he never makes physical contact with peter, or anyone else. As a hologram, he would make sure to not and avoid exposing himself. 2) At the end of Age of Ultron, Fury says he wants to go on vacation in the Bahamas. I don't think it was a Tahiti refrence

it was definitely a Tahiti reference bc that is the exact same screen they used in AoS, but that's also a neat catch!

He's wearing a mo-cap suit at the time, so that makes perfect sense in continuity. I like that they put that much attention into even the details of how he held the sunglasses.

2:16 In the comic's, his spider-sense doesn't go off for anyone he doesn't see as an enemy, that's also why during the first movie, his sense doesn't alert him to Ned in his room, or his aunt coming down the hallway

I too can relate about making a plan to end up telling your crush that you like them. My plan was this: 1. During the day, tell crush that we should walk home together 2. Walk home with same crush 3. fail to open up to her for 2 fucking days, so end up repeating step 1-2. 4. Admit on day 3. Fucking finally. Plan worked. Almost a year dating.

What I really liked about this version of Mysterio was the way that the trailer's kind of tricked you into thinking that he may actually be the good guy in the movie. I feel like even though we wanted him to be a hero, we all knew it would end up with the classic VFX artist villain from the comics. I personally thought he WOULD be the good guy throughout the film until around the end. I thought that Quentin and Peter would take down that giant monster thing and Spiderman would get all of the credit. Mysterio would get jealous and try to kill Peter. Of course, I'm still pretty happy with the way he turned out.

@Razh 80 funny little side note, I always thought that Absorbing Man was a Hulk villain (considering that he teams up with The Leader and The Abomination in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes) but nope, he's a Thor villain (one of them, anyway).

"I know you think none of us have noticed, Peter, but your new look: I love it" I love this line because Peter's 'new style' happened a second before that line. So, obviously none of them had noticed, or they would have also noticed that it didn't previously exist.

In the comics, the spider sense doesn’t pick up on threats coming from people Peter considers friends. One of the main obstacles of fighting venom is that he was in peters head for a while, so he doesn’t trigger peters spidey sense at all. Also Spider-Man can win at poker against his foes because of the spidey sense and that’s 300% canon (citation: he cleaned out kingpin)
