Anya is one of the most realistically written kids in anime (Ya know... minus the mind-reading thing). I've got 3 of them, and that's really how they are with their odd little idiosyncrasies, manners of speaking, and illogical behavior. She's intelligent for her age, but doesn't have the adult maturity to put it to proper use. She's got a lot of drive... but not a whole lot of focus. She can think ahead, but not far enough to account for most possible outcomes. Her view of the world doesn't leave much room for nuance. And while she's genuinely caring, she can still be self-absorbed, petty, and egotistical. Anya is 100% how most kids really are, and it's great to see a writer who understands how they think.

I think why we love the family scenes is because it's comforting for us to see a healthy family dynamic, even if it fake at first. So many family shows have unhealthy or even outright toxic family dynamics that seeing a healthy family just living their lives is not only a breath of fresh air but a warm comforting reminder of either the dynamic our family had when we are younger or of what we wanted to have but couldn't have.

Something that often goes overlooked when Anya's playing in episode 5. the thing with the pool left me so tense, you do not leave kids unsupervised near a pool, especially if its empty. Back when I was 13 or 14, I had to go to a babysitting class and learn how to perform CPR on kids, and THEN go to a class at the pool on how to help if someone was drowning, before I was allowed to swim without supervision. Because *I* was the supervision, for my two younger, bratty cousins, who would run around screaming, and wouldn't listen to a single word I said, and when we got kicked out of the pool and banned for the rest of the summer (because my youngest cousin dropped a dookie in the pool while I was trying to get the other one to return a toy to a stranger's kid), I got blamed for it, because I "wasn't responsible enough." As an Asian who had been in swimming classes "so that I wouldn't drown" and often practiced alone at the pool before I reached 12, parenting didn't work that way. Parents often aren't that trained. Parents didn't know because they didn't have the resources so they would just assume it would be fine. My mother didn't know how to swim and my father's always busy at work. My mother didn't even understand that kids could vomit if they swim too hard after meals.
@Shalakor2 жыл бұрын
@@chloeng0708 The vomiting thing is less about swimming and more about overexertion in general. Swimming responsibly on a full stomach is perfectly healthy, and far safer than swimming on a completely empty stomach. It's just a matter of being submerged in water acting as a force multiplier. The buoyancy means motions feel less laborious, while the pressure of the water adds resistance that exercises your muscles at a greater pace. If anything, a light amount of swimming and splashing around will aid digestion, but going too hard at swimming is just the same thing as running around playing on land too hard. P.S. Typing this has reminded me that I should go get some exercise in after having just ate.

I'm surprised you didn't say anything about after the scene where Loid saves the two children about how he talks about the real world phenomenon of children with pools which is a really dangerous occurrence in which children drown in silence. I felt it kept the scene grounded with a hint of dark reality also showing how Anya truly did something heroic as she saved that boy by bringing attention to it, while selflessly willing to dive in without even knowing she can save him. The darkness of the explanation made it a series what could've happened and I thought it made that scene even more hard hitting.

In my opinion: The reason that the Down Time scenes or "Family scenes in this anime hit different is the dichotomy of the fact that all three of them know the "Family " they have got is fake to separate degrees (Lloyd sees it as a mission, Anya sees it as an Excitment as if it's a TV show she is living in, Yor sees herself as the fake having no idea how to raise Anya or be a wife to Lloyd) However, the fact that all 3 try to be something they are not, they are being a genuine family (Lloyd's sucsses is based on Anya's sucsses so he has to be a "real" father to her not a fake, Yor's killer instincts can now be seen as her being a protective mother to Anya and Anya (while she is scared of Yor at times) thinks Yor's strength is just the coolest, Anya knows it is a lie but gains everything from that lie (a house, a dad, a mom, good food, fun)) All of them think they are forced to care about each other without realizing that they actually DO care.

And Anya finally feels home after not having one for as long as she knows. They all came from different backgrounds have one common goal, Safety. In win 30 I also love how they went the extra mile to put the light and shadow of a tree over them. It was completely unnecessary, but they did it anyway. The entire anime is littered with these little touches that make this world feel that much prettier and more alive, even if you don't even notice them consciously. I also love Anya's house-tour for Yor in particular. I can totally see my own niece doing pretty much the exact same thing when she was about 5. They really nailed the behaviour of a child her age. I only knew Anya's VA prior as Chise from Ancient Magus Bride and I did not even suspect that might have been the same person speaking until I read the cast-list. And then that scene with Anya speaking as other people in her mind in episode 11... she is seriously impressive. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to speak in other voices, but still keep "enough Anya" in it to make it sounds like Anya herself is changing her voice. In Loid and Yor's words: Wow! :D

26:12 The answer's fairly simple: The family scenes are *found family* scenes. We expect a certain level of stable comfort and/or happiness in "real" families in media, so big arguments and fights feel like a slog because it seems *so obvious* why they should just get along, while the moments of great joy and peace don't feel like wins because it's expected. It's why, for example, Sasuke, Sakura, and Sarada fail as a family unit-it's an informed trait, and always "told" rather than "shown." (heck, all the families in Boruto feel like that, but the Uchihas just take the cake.) With the Forgers they're all strangers, so it makes sense that they all have feathers that get ruffled while in close proximity with each other. And because we go into this with the mindset of "they'll need time to work things out," seeing them succeed, even in small, quiet moments, is a big deal.

its so cute, but it also doesn't shy away from the gruesome part of the show. while it's sweet and comedic, it still manages to show the actual lore of the show; that there's a war on the horizon and everyone is trying to do their best to protect their little corner for their family. like even reading the manga, the line of who's right, the east or the west, we still don't actually know. and that kind of gray lens on war is what makes spy x family so interesting. we see the way the west spies operate (loid) and we see the east people view those traitors to the east (yor & yuri). and we see that although both parties are fighting for different sides, they are ultimately doing the same thing. they're all just doing what they think will help the world stay in peace and to protect others. it's legitimately heartwarming to see and it gets better when yor and loid start to actually care for each other and their little family. this series really is just everything that i like. when it's sweet and cute, it gives me so much happiness. when it starts to get serious, it gives us actual insight on what these people actually think about this very sensitive time period. it does add some realistic aspects but it doesn't do them too much to the point that the series feels hopeless. and i think that's why i really fell for it

Especially for an anime and manga like Spy X Family where the characters are so easy to care about because they're treated more like real people than often happens, I think scenes like that create a sort of 'sympathetic comfort'. Characters you care about are having a warm, comfy moment, and there's both feeling good that they get that, and getting some of that feeling yourself as a sort of parasocial inclusion.

36:40 you didn’t mention how this scene is a dragon ball reference, he’s on planet Namek and defending against a very dragon ball looking attack

This show is an amazing dissection of human behavior. As a sociologist, I find this series to not only be emotional crack, but also just so detailed at looking into the struggle that people go through in putting up a mask and compartmentalizing in their everyday lives. It's comedic, wholesome, and takes an incredibly honest look at how children behave. I can remember taking things incredibly seriously at Anya's age and how dramatically I could react to things that were out of the norm - I was a child with undiagnosed autism and kinesthetic synesthesia - and how over the top my own reactions could be. The author and animators go out of their way to express the full breadth of human reactions in each scene and it is a fucking delight every goddamn time. I'm recommending this series to as many people as will listen.

I’m surprised how quickly this Wins video came out, considering that the show has just gone into its mid-season break. Definitely not a complaint. Just an observation.

The fact that most furniture is based on furniture that exists in real life is such a move. As a fact Loids chair and couch in the anime are based on Le Corbusier LC2

Why do we love wholesome family moments in anime? Well that's easy. As much as we love anime here, most of it is stuff that would be incredibly stressful if it happened to us in real life. But when the wholesome, happy family moments happen, we can look at that and think "I'd love to have that". And at the same time, we're so happy that the characters we love DO have that. It's an expression of a simple dream that almost everyone can relate to. That's my take, anyways.

I think the family scenes are so lovely because they are the focus of the show. Everything else always comes back to them, because in the end the main focus of the show is the personal growth of the forger household as persons and a family :D . Some things may seem more important, but the real running theme of the show arent missions, personal goals or drama with little hangups, but the forming of a small family.

Did you know that in episode 8 at win 153-155 the city shown is based on a real city, namely the capital of Hungary called Budapest. They changed the parliament building slightly and the chain bridge, the hotel Kárpátia and the Tokaj wine.
