What a coincidence. I just dug out my older brothers Nintendo 64 two weeks ago and started playing Ocarina of time. I’m stuck on the forest temple right now and it’s embarrassing because I’m 24 and my older brother beat this game when he was 10 years old with no help from internet walkthroughs. Impressive, Rest In Peace Phil ❤

The Forest Temple is still my favourite in the game, potentially in the entire franchise. The music, the aesthetic, the atmosphere - it's a perfect blend of intrigue and just has an element of spookiness that hasn't left me since I first played the game when I was 7 years old.

I like that the games that follow the Hero of Time imply that even if he died with regrets, his life was likely a peaceful and happy one. With Twilight Princess Link being both the Hero of Times direct blood descent and a farmer, it’s very likely that he settled down with Malon, and since he wasn’t a renowned hero due to time travel that means she didn’t fall for the Hero of Time but just Link, the fairy boy.

Although he probably became a soldier, hence his armor, lost eye and overall role of training the hero of twilight. Maybe he retired or was something like a part time soldier (So he was only on duty when it really was necessary) I like the idea that if he couldn't enjoy his childhood in the kokiri forest, he maybe even worked at the farm as a kid, made his new home there, fell in love with Malon and could enjoy a nice life there
@MaskOfLimbo

Is never actually stated if he is blood related to the Hero of Time, since is stated that Hero of Time Link died in his journey looking for his Fairy and became that skeleton warrior as a result. He did that as a kid, so there no chance of him staying with Malon and continuing the bloodline, as far as I know.

@@MaskOfLimbo It's explicitly stated in Hyrule Historia that Twilight Princess Link is the decedent of the Hero of Time, who is the Heroes Shade. It's never stated how he died, and there's no mention of it being related to looking for Navi or the lost woods, and even then he's not a skeleton but a spirit, like those found in the rest of Twilight Princess. The whole idea started as a dumb theory by MatPat that has no basis in canon.

I can't remember the specifics but I think the inspiration for the Z-Targetting system came about when some members of the team saw a theatrical performance out in town one day where a guy stood in the middle of a crowd of enemies, the enemies coming at him one at a time and he'd just lock on to each one

@@wattsnottaken1 The 3DS re-releases aren't too bad, but if you prefer the older style and look Emulation may be your go-to. No, the act of Emulation itself is perfectly legal, it's moreso the acquisition of the titles to emulate that it gets into the weird gray area.

@@c0baltl1ghtn1ng I reccomend Ship of Hikarian. It is the entire game itself on the same engine and using the same assets. But you can make it perform a lot better like 120 or 60 FP/S. And it allows you to even play with a keyboard since you can customize what button is translated into which button. It is a very good OoT Emulator because you can even play in the original aspect ratio.

Every Zelda game has a very heavy, underlying tone beneath the warm colours and atmosphere that it shows. I love these games so much, not only was the gameplay fun, the puzzles creative, and the characters loveable, but what drew me to them time and time again was the overall message that each game tells. If you just skim the surface, you get the moral of the story. If you dig deep into the story, you find the life lesson that is trying to be conveyed. The harsh nature of reality and how hard accepting the truth can be. Unrelated note as well, I love that you can see the downside of being a hero. Especially one that doesn't get any credit. You save everyone and have finished your duty, and yet nobody is there to receive you, congratulate you, or even spite you, as nobody remembers you. You did the right thing, but everyone you fought for don't even know you, everything you had is now just a memory.

Great video, but I have one nerdy correction -- it is confirmed that the Hero's Shade is the Hero of Time. It is not confirmed that he became a Stalfos or got lost. That's an assumption that I don't think is supported, because Stalfos are just mindless physical monsters, not intelligent ghosts, and in any case the Hero of Twilight is explicitly his descendant, which means Young Link grew up and had a family (given the Hero of Twilight is a farmer, my money is on him hooking up with Malon).

this is true, plus he was wearing hylian knight armor when you find him in twilight princess. He more than likely returned to hyrule and became the official head knight for zelda. I remember my first introduction to this game (I'd play Link's Awakening before this, but didn't associate it to the Zelda series for a few years): my brother and I were allowed to each rent a game from the local video store, I picked Bomberman 64 and he chose Ocarina of Time. I remember thinking that the game looked so stupid and would be terrible and just played Bomberman...at first. After trying Ocarina, I instantly fell in love with it to the point of not touching Bomberman again, and later receiving Ocarina for my 12th birthday. I have so greatly enjoyed playing this game in multiple forms over the years (N64, Gamecube's pre-order bonus for Windwaker with bonus master quest and finally on 3DS). The amount of enjoyment this series has given me over the decades is hard to truly put into words, so I'm not really going to try. It should also be mentioned: Navi's flight through the forest at the beginning looks pretty amazing in 3D on the 3DS, which as a side note, this game is the primary reason I bought the 3DS on it's launch day in the first place. This game may not be my favorite of the series, that goes to the duology of Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons; nor is it my first, that goes to Link's Awakening DX for the Gameboy/Gameboy Color; but it will always be special to me for what it has shown me.

You did open Pandora's box, but not only for Zelda games, but older games in general. Personally I would LOVE to see You cover FFVIII, one of not many games to be overshadowed by its predecessor. But any game from our generation's childhoow would be amazing, bringing at least a shimmer of magic we lost and are never getting back... Let me use this occasion to also state how much Your channel means to me as a whole. Too see a confirmation of our love for video games, too see that somebody felt similiar, was moved by the same... Not only it gives us some validity for love we share to videogames, it also makes us feel a part of a bigger group, not alone at all in awe for this amazing art form (YEAH I SAID, BRING IT ON PUPPIES, I'LL TAKE YOU ALL). I belive I am not the only one who grew up surounded by people so sure that videogames (or anime, sci fi books, comics, take your pick) are something not worth time, or something you should grow out of. Why would we though?

I'm another person who played Ocarina of Time, my first ever Zelda game, as an adult. It was the passion and praise from fans of the Zelda series, and Ocarina of Time specifically, that made me grab a Nintendo 64 online and, along with some of my old childhood favorites, buy Ocarina of time in order to fill the haunting void of time that started in 2020. Seeing a review of what makes the game great from both a nostalgic perspective of an adult who was once a child, and an adult exploring the world for the first time is so beautifully poetic for this game. The children of the 90s and early 2000s get to reflect, while the adults who are diving in for the first time get to explore a vast world previously unknown to them, both like adult and child Link respectively.

The monsters of the wells always existing, the cryptids of the forest temple being so close to the safe haven the deku tree made, the royal family being behind the most brutal temple, or finally when the race we are expected to see as evil has a culture of respect and spirituality and wants to see their own king lose too. So I've never played this version of oot, the gamecube one, my version was the remaster/remake for the 3ds. I remember I was somewhere around the age of ten and my family and I were going on a vacation. We got like 30 minutes into said vacation whenever my mom turned to us and said happy early Christmas and gave my brother, sister, and I all 3ds's. My sister had gotten a barbie dress up game, my brother got spider-man edge of time, and I had gotten ocarina of time. At first I was super jealous of my brother for getting a spider-man game because I had thought that he had gotten the better game.... but boy how wrong i was, don't get me wrong I love almost everything spidey but when I started playing oot for those 9 or so hours I quicky fell in love with the game and made me so excited for everything zelda. I did damn near everything in that game and quickly moved onto others in the series. By the time I was a sophomore in high school I had played all the games and done almost if not everything. And I tell you what hearing the opening ost sent a chill up my spine and almost made me start crying. I really hope he gets around to covering majora's mask because I feel like he would really vibe with the games somewhat hidden messaging. And hell if he eventually gets around to covering all of them I'd like most others would be very happy campers.

That's another great thing about many Nintendo games. Their stories aren't extremely grandiose with multiple minutes long cutscenes. They often rely on masterful subtext eg. in Zelda games like OoT, Skyward Swordand BOTW (the latter does have real cutscenes) where Zelda and Link's struggle quite a lot with destiny and the like. Another example are Kirby games which have texts about bosses and other stuff in the Pause menu, which tell you about their backstories which can be surprisingly tragic

I was 11 when Ocarina of Time came out, all the hype around it. I had no N64 back then but i remember it well. I even had the comic to this game from Club Nintendo.

@@Ianriley27828 I sometimes feel old when i see what sells today. Good game-play or good level design are not important anymore. So long the graphics are good the people will buy it. Even when they are full of micro transactions, people will pay billions to play garbage.

Happy 25th to one of the greatest video games of all time that I've played. To simply put it Ocarina of Time has had a big impact on my childhood and is forever etched in my brain in terms of the level depth in gameplay experience.

Fun Fact: Did you know that in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time opening theme is actually Zelda's Lullaby backwards.

You're thinking of the Skyward Sword theme. The opening theme in OoT is the recorder sound from the original Zelda.

I actually think the water temple was the best temple, the boot swapping was annying but the design was awesome, moving the water was awesome, learning the layout was a lot of fun, dark link was my favorite boss, especially when you find out there's ways around his mimicry like using the hammer

I felt like totk really embodied a darker tone after botw as did majoras mask after oot. Miyamoto and team really listened to their fans on this one and delivered something entirely new feeling but with the classic elements that truly gave it that nostalgic energy.

I was about 7 when I first played Ocarina of Time and after the Deku Tree I was done ...; that time I didn't know there was more to be had. Age 12 picked it back up and played up to Gannons castle I was to timid to continue. Beat the game 31 times since then and it's still one of my favorite Nintendo games

if you loved this, you might also love Tomb Raider 1 :) it’s a decent bit clunkier but immensely satisfying to get the hang of, and it respects your intelligence with the puzzles. It’s like a whole game of OoT dungeons! It’s also just as immersive and has a mystical, beautiful atmosphere to it that feels a bit lost in modern gaming. Worth giving a shot :) Great video btw

I was 18 when this game came out, and the music in the Shadow Temple was unnerving as hell. I don't think age is a factor there: Nintendo knew what they were doing.
