One thing that I love about the film is how because the "blood" of the Blanks is blue and their bodies so inhuman on the inside, it means that Wright can dial the violence to 11 and have us barely notice it. Both us and the censors are just thinking "Wow!" instead of "Ew..." simply because our brains aren't responding so instinctively to the "gore", while still appreciating the fun action

People often scoff when I name this as the best film in the Cornetto Trilogy, and even moreso when I name it as one of my favourite films ever, but it really is that good. Fundamentally, it is incredibly funny, on par with Wrights best work, but it also has so many layers, with little details that reward you on multiple viewings. For me, it is incredibly relatable, as when you're young, everyone has been on a pub crawl that got a little out of hand; but as I grow older, I start to sympathise with the growing up/people changing aspect of it too. All the little quirks, easter eggs, and what I like to call Edgar Wright-isms make this film such a classic and I hope one day, it might get the respect it deserves. There is so much too this film and I look forward to hearing your outro on this one because it could genuinely last for an hour.
@connor488803 жыл бұрын
I agree The pub names, the Network logos all over the place, the intro setting up the events of the film, the little numbers bidden around in each pub that correspond to which pub it is This is the most densely packed of all the Cornetto movies
@ojrmk13 жыл бұрын
I think one of the reasons it's not quite as resonant to US audiences is that they don't have the phenomenon of JD Wetherspoons and the brewery pub system.
@styfen3 жыл бұрын
If you gave me a choice of which movie in the trilogy to watch, I'd pick Hot Fuzz most of the time, because it's just more upbeat and feels good. But World's End is the best of the three, it's the most refined, intelligent and adult of all those movies. I do hope they'll break the trilogy and hit a fourth movie, because the growth in competency from Spaced -> Shaun -> Fuzz -> World's End is incredible.
@JonathanBates3 жыл бұрын
As someone who's never been on a pub crawl, or even goes to pubs, it wasn't relatable at all. I think between that, the gloomy feeling through the movie, and the general jerk of a main character, I just never enjoyed this movie. On a technical level it is brilliant, but I'll rewatch Hot Fuzz regularly and can easily pass watching this again when I just want to be entertained.
@stickiedmin65083 жыл бұрын
Fuzz is more immediately likeable, as is Shaun, but this one is *_SSssooooo_* deep. Even for an Edgar Wright movie, the layers just go on and and on and on. There's *_always_* something new to spot.
@nicholascross35573 жыл бұрын
I think the problem with Edgar's films, if indeed it can really be called a problem, is that people go into them expecting the usual cinema fare of, essentially, a burger and fries and he just casually serves up a 9-course banquet of a movie. With coffee and liqueurs. Which then means you need to watch it about 8 more times in order to appreciate it.
@ojrmk13 жыл бұрын
This is a far bleaker movie than the other Cornetto films. Also, as a Spaced fan, watching this movie made me feel like I was watching what Tim could have become. It's a brilliant movie, but unlike the others in the Cornetto trilogy, this is the only one I've never rewatched.

One other thing that is consistent across the Cornetto Trilogy is that the arcade game Ed plays at the beginning of Shaun of the Dead (at 00:01:19) appears in both Hot Fuzz (at 00:10:45 and 1:38:05) and in The World's End (at 1:19:45). Just something cool that links these movies together :)

This is flat out my favorite film. Literally, the only things I’d change are dumb nitpicks like Gary’s SOM tattoo looks a little off/fake. I love the acting and every joke lands exactly how it’s supposed to. Most comedies I see usually have a few jokes that miss. But not this. It’s as close to a perfect film as you could get

Your videos on Edgar Wright’s films are some of my favourite, so I can’t wait to watch this! Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim were two of your best videos in my opinion!

Missed note on the Beast: All the parts were replaced except the body. "Other than than, it's the same car!" Kinda like Gary's group at the end of the movie.

For my money, the best written of the Cornetto Trilogy from a character stand point. Gary's story here is so sad. He literally destroys the world of his friends just so he never has to grow up and face his problems, and he travels the decimated world stuck in the past with friends that are of the same mental age of himself. Hot Fuzz is my favourite, but The World's End is amazing and sorely underrated.

I really think the Cornetto trilogy will go down as a legendary buddy horror comedy. I will always remember the first time I watched it, with my best friend at that time, sadly we have no contact anymore. We had some cheap Wodka and decent weed, long story short we watched the whole trilogy that night, and i will always remember that night as more simpler and easier times now i am a dad of 3 young children and life is really wonderful and random at the same time, i will always watch this trilogy from time to time just for the nostalgia i get from it I miss the simpler times.

This film could just be called "The many setups and payoffs" as there's so many and they're all so satisfying! Even the title of the film has a Payoff!

Such an amazing film. The Cornetto Trilogy will be completed. Love how every bar’s name is connected to story beats. Also a cool detail is that Gary, Steven, and Andy survive as they are ones who fight back. Oliver and Peter can’t or don’t fight against the machines and they fall/die.

Firstly, thank you so much for finally doing this movie. I love the World's End and it was my introduction to Wright as a director when it came out. It's by far my favorite of the Cornetto Trilogy and one of my favorite comedies. Secondly, I cannot wait to hear the themes you pull in part two. I have been waiting for someone to talk about this fantastic movie but no one seems to know about it. - M

5:09 Weird fact here, but I'm from the town this was mostly filmed in (Letchworth Garden City - the other was Welwyn Garden City) and actually, neither of the towns were designed by Quakers. However, Ebeneezer Howard (the towns' lead designer) had to stop drinking and remove pubs from his plans to appease the previous settlements' mostly Quaker population. Somehow the idea of someone having the completely change his lifestyle to fit in with other people who are set in their ways fits the film even more.
