It must have seriously killed him inside knowing Flynn chose some natural born offspring that was designed to have no purpose unlike CLU who’s sole existence was to build the perfect system which he did and practically everything that he asked but still in the end the old man favored Sam. “The thing about perfection is that it is unknowable”. You can’t help but pitty Clu, he’s just a scared confused desperate child begging, screaming, smacking against the glass to get his father’s acknowledgment. His approval, his respect, and love. Ever notice that Zuse says "Libations for everybody!" instead of say, "Drinks on the house," or "Drinks all around"? Libations are drinks poured and offered specifically to honor a god. Zuse (Zeus) made everyone drink in honor of himself. How self indulgent, how hedonistic. No matter how well he served clu, clu was going to kill him, such an act of self gratification would have no doubt been seen as imperfect in his perfect system. The fact he says libations also clues us in that he (at the time known as Castor) is actually Zuse, the figure that the resistance is looking to for leadership.

There is one thing you got wrong: "Zuse" is definitely not meant to refer to "Zeus" (which is pronounced VERY different, in english you might transcribe it to 'the-oos'). It definitely refers to Konrad Zuse, the guy who invented the programmable computer.
@JerkyMurky
@JerkyMurky 8 жыл бұрын
No doubt it is a reference to Konrad zuse. But they never pronounce his name the-oos. The only ever pronounce his name identical to zeus. And in a visual medium the way they pronounce his name is far more important then how its spelt on the script.

I remember seeing this film in the theater with my dad when it came out. He saw the original Tron in theaters and I had yet to see the first one. Needless to say both of us were just so blown away by it. The design of the environment of The Grid was just stunning and beautiful to look at. The soundtrack from Daft Punk was emotional and very well used in every aspect, not to mention their cameo as the DJ's in End of Line was just hilarious. The continuation of the story from the first Tron with new more modern elements was done decently well in my opinion. I loved all the callbacks to the first one including Flynn's original Lightcycle being used for a brief period. Plus one thing I will say is that many of the movies flaws in my opinion just helps even further to sell that you are actually on The Grid. Clu's cgi face looks fake, okay but if you think about it the reasoning behind that makes sense. Clu is a digitalized copy of Flynn's base code essentially. So if his face looks digital, wouldn't that make sense since they are in a digital universe? Many of the supporting casts acting is very stiff and lifeless, okay but remember they aren't playing living beings they are playing computer programs so if they are stiff and emotionless, that is what its supposed to be.

Torn: Legacy was the first film I saw in modern 3D. It was also the first time I saw in proper 3D. Anaglyph 3D's never worked for me, and it turns out I don't actually have depth perception and just spent my whole life faking it, unaware that the world wasn't 'flat' for everyone else. It wasn't until I saw this flick that I understood that. When I saw it in theatres, my partner at the time was with me and apparently they barely even saw the movie, because they were too busy watching me. They'd never seen such a look of absolute childlike wonder on an adults face, and it was apparently adorable to watch me flinch from 'pop out' and I don't remember doing it, but apparently there were several parts of the movie I was so engrossed that I kept trying to reach out and touch bits of it, because my poor 'I don't see depth' brain now being forced into seeing it by the 3D was telling me that light cycle was RIGHT THERE in touching distance and I wanted to touch it. I also cried, several times, because of the sheer beauty and 'rightness' of what I was seeing. Apparently a lot of people had this reaction with Pandora, though I missed Avatar in theatres, something I still kick myself over. But The Grid is more a world I want to live in. Every time I've seen it again it has been amazing, but what I wouldn't give to see this in theatres again in Real3D or whatever the fuck they call it so I can enjoy that over again.

OKAY, BRACE YOURSELVES PEOPEL!! At 3:37, OKAY. I BELIEVE THIS DESERVES LIKE 20,000 POINTS RIGHT HERE!! At 3:37, Kevin Flynn steps "Out of Bounds" in regards to his house. TO BE SPECIFIC, The "Light Wall" is actually the confines of the program that defines Flynn's secret hide away. I explained this in another video when someone reacted to this film. There are only FOUR PEOPLE in this film, who can do this. KEVIN FLYNN, SAM FLYNN, QUORA & ZUSE. To put it another way, if you're playing a video game, the game map might shooow, other places beyond it's borders, but can never reach there. In this scene, KEVIN FLYNN is clipping through a "DIGITAL WALL". Imagine Kevin FLYNN'S place as a private chat room. A place where he & Quora can hide out, and the server & it's moderators, (CLUE) can't listen in. This fact is shown REPEATEDLY, throughout the film. From the fact that Quora's vehicle can go off road, but the light cycles can't. They Derez the moment that they touch a surface that isn't compatible with their programing. Even outside in scenes, you may see people crossing roads, but NO ONE, walks outside of a line. From their point of view, such places don't even exist. But for SAM FLYNN, we are shown a large empty street in the beginning. Even things like the bridge to the transporter or MORE SUBTLY, the stairs that ZUSE shows off. Really, what you're looking at, is a established link between two digital locations. With the "End Of Line" club especially, Zuse's private quarters is like a private message box. Just like Kevin FLYNN'S home. Then, when he's talking about the destination, he, "STEPS OUTSIDE THROUGH THE LIGHT WALL JUST LONG ENOUGH TO SAY THE WORDS "ACROSS THE SEA OF SIMULATION". If you view his club as a chat room, and his quarters as a private DM, then in stepping outside, ZUSE is shouting a line of dialogue out loud in common, where the moderators can flag it, and trace it back to that chat room. Which is EXACTLY, how he lets Clue Know to send guards there. Zuse is CLEARLY one of the first original programs created by Kevin Flynn to monitor the system. He points out that he, "Designed the stairs himself". So he KNOWS, about programming. Which is basically saying that he knows how to create matter out of thin air as far as others are concerned. I believe only the FIRST GENERATION programs can probably do this. I do not believe CLUE can. If he could, he'd redesign his program options long ago. But later when Clue invades Kevin FLYNN'S place, the sycophant, drops a mirrored apple, and staggers back words when it makes sound, but doesn't derezz. THAT'S, THE POINT. Everything in FLYNN'S apartment place is REAL. NOT, a recreation. Even Clue looks at the mirrored surface and has a flashback, because he's never seen his reflection except for on the day of his birth. So at 3:37, what KEVIN FLYNN IS ACTUALLY DOING, IS BREAKING THE LAWS OF PHYSICS AND REALITY AS THE GRID KNOWS IT. But to him, he's just going outside to get some fresh air.

Yeah, one of the issues comes from the properties of skin. I saw it described in a video by VFX experts. Skin is transparent and the tissue and pores stretched a certain way that character model couldn't capture. So while it looks fine as a still image, once the model starts to move, it looks play-doughy and our eyes easily pick up the idea that something looks off. Imo it's not as noticeable when it shows Bridges on the 80s TV screens, but it is noticeable everywhere else. And I think it actually Benefits CLU, especially when when he's in the same shots as the real Jeff Bridges, because the character really is a digital program created in Bridges' likeness.

You missed adding a "win" for one of my favorite pieces of visual spectacle in the film. In the 3D version, the first 20mins of the film (when they're in the "Real World") is all focused to 2D. When you hit the digital world, you get blown away by the literal addition of another dimension. Plus, it's one of the better films for 3d, in part because of the inorganic lighting and spectacular action sequences. It's my go-to film if I ever want to introduce someone to 3d (not that that's much of a thing anymore lol)

I realize I'm commenting on a video that's almost two years old, but I have to say that it's so awesome to find another fan of this film (we seem so few and far between). I watched your Sunshine review before this, and it's like we share the same brain. I was overcome with emotion after watching this movie in the theatre, and that doesn't often happen for me. It was an overwhelming feeling of the sublime. I watched it with a group of friends but drove home alone, and when I sat down in my car (before driving) I actually started weeping for a full 5 minutes. It wasn't sadness or joy as much as just being emotionally overwhelmed by what I just experienced. The visuals, the music, Quorra's reaction to her first sunrise, the whole concept of the ISOs... This movie is, on so many levels, unique and beautiful and sublime. Anyway, thanks for the video and for sharing your joy for this film.

It's just barely there, and it's like its muffled by the black, emotionless mask he wears, but it's there, and it's a sound that makes you feel at your core like Rinzler is not just an animal, but a deadly, intelligent, calculated being of death and destruction.

Tron in the original movies was a program created to battle the corruption in the grid. He was a resistance hero whose goal was to liberate the grid from the hands of the MCP and return it to the hands of the other programs and the users. In the original, before Flynn was revealed to the programs as a user, Tron was the only one who actually believed in them, and was a sort of held-sacrificing hero, willing to give himself for the greater good and save everyone. He could be a little abrasive at times, but he was never a bad guy.

The truth is the story is both a but disconnected from the first film, while also kind of a re hash. It also came out in a time where the romantic subplot was kind of saturated. So critics and armchair critics described the movie as all style no substance. They make some good criticisms, the script hardly takes many risks. But they failed to appreciate that sometimes style IS substance. Honestly, if you stripped all the dialogue from this movie and presented it as an album length music video, it would go down in history. Kinda like Interstella 555. I still love this movie deeply.
@efulmer8675

Similar to Alejandro Rivas above me, but the major point I think why people hate on it is because the plot doesn't try very hard. It's not a complex-plot movie, but it becomes truly phenomenal once you suffer from fridge-logic over the thematic points of the movie. My favorite is the implicit comparison between Flynn who gives this inspiring and positive speech about the digital frontier in 1985 to cheers in the real world, versus CLU who gives a *nearly identical speech to his army* to the same cheering over conquering Earth. I think this is because Flynn was supported in the real world while CLU was abandoned, but that's not plot or action, it's character or theme. Tron: Legacy is all theme, character and score, and I think this is where it loses most people. There's not a tremendous amount of action to pull a person back as an "action-movie" and there's not a lot of plot to pull a person back for its "plot", and I think this is where Tron: Legacy just suffered from bad luck in that regard. There seems to be a trend in the past 4-5 years towards movies and media that are character and theme/message centric over plot and action which 2010 and years surrounding it seemed to have more of a trend towards plot and action as being the desired points of a movie. tl;dr Tron: Legacy wasn't the right kind of movie to come out in 2010 the way it is, and it's not what most people expect.

Cancer Police Yeah, whereas CinemaSins breaks your heart when it picks your favorite movie apart or maybe even ruins a film for you by pointing out everything bad in it, CinemaWins makes you feel good when they praise your favs for what it does RIGHT. I was honestly sick and tired of seeing people hate on every movie that isn't Marvel or Disney animation, like DC movies post-Nolan, the Star Wars prequels, and even Michael Bay doesn't deserve the amount of hate he gets... not all of it, anyway. But I found this channel, and I rarely watch CinemaSins anymore, because they're so cynical, it's almost contagious. We don't need to give people MORE reasons to hate movies, especially ones that everyone hates already thanks to critics swaying people's opinions! Batman v Superman anyone? It wasn't that bad... it just got overhyped. And Suicide Squad was great! Even Jared Leto at least tried something NEW for this Joker! And everyone hates him because he tried to change things. That's so unfair. Anyway, this channel helps me see the good in even the worst movies, and I love it for that.

Also it would be very cool if Alan Bradley got to meet his program and that whole side of the story got explored. We were robbed of this relationship is my point. Also Bruce Boxleitner is criminally underused in the whole franchise.

@@kj6731 that would actually be incredible, Tron being “forgiven” by his “maker,” because although Alan and Tron don’t seem to have interacted since they lost contact in the original movie way back in the 80s, I still imagine having someone who looks like you tell you you aren’t irredeemably lost or unforgivable would be such an emotionally powerful moment

The first movie referenced more on the whole programming side of things and was pretty great, but not as great as this on imo. The first starts off as a normal quest for Flynn to find some data but turns into a full grid experience! It was made in 1982 so don't expect too much, however it had the best animation of its time. Worth the watch if you haven't seen it yet.

The first Tron changed my life. I was 8 years old when I saw these supposed screenshot inserts of the movie in a novel but couldn't believe such fantastic imagery could actually be part of a movie. Then I saw the trailer and was blown away. I HAD TO SEE THIS FILM! After finally seeing the movie, I was awe-struck. Nothing like it had ever been done before. Perhaps Star Wars, but this was something very unique. Tron: Legacy had big shoes to fill because these days any production house can make a movie so technically advanced that it's hard to impress the average movie-goer

🌎In a world filled with violent, vulgar, non creative and non artistic movies nowadays This Movie touches feelings of love, wonder, team, perfection, loneliness, fun, trust, naiveness, adventure, repent, family, & sacrifice. ....wow. There are many scenes I love in TronLegacy, (When Quorra aks Sam to describe the sun, When Flynn shares when Clu first rebelled, Rinzler's slowmo jumps, & of course the Final Flynn-Clu confrontation, .......but the Light Jet scene, towards the end, when Flynn recognizes the danger of the situation and asks Tron only 1 sincere question: "Tron, what have you become?" and Rinzler(Tron) internally struggles, ...but Repents... turns back to the good side, and helps his friends, that scene along with the musical piano notes, I find it deeply profound. The Soundtrack is a 1 in a million masterpiece, and of the many amazing tracks in the Album (Recognizer, Flynn lives, Son of Flynn, Disk Wars, The Grid) I believe "Finale" is the most complete & powerful track in the album. :)

General problem was that people didn't know it was a sequel, but this movie is great in my book! And the soundtrack, man the soundtrack is a masterpiece, and it could have been better, Daft Punk was forced to put some "classical" vibe in it, so it wasn't 100% techno

Not exactly forced per se. They were supposed to do a full techno version, but by learning to work with an orchestra they learned to re-vitalise acoustic elements instead of going full on electronica. Did you know that working on TRON: Legacy was the kick-start for them to work on Random.Access.Memories?
@kristenlyssara8488
@kristenlyssara8488 8 жыл бұрын
I.... what? No, the symphonic elements are what make it so good. The Grid, TRON, is about the blending and merging of the organic and the technological. Human in a virtual space. The entire soundtrack is BUILT around that. Starting off with the entirely acoustic orchestra and adding in the electronic.

So I finally revisited this movie (mostly just to hear Daft Punk’s soundtrack again) and after YEARS of watching and learning things from this channel, I can honestly say that I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I did when I was 17. 17-year-old me was sold on the marketing of this movie which was “LIGHT CYCLES GO ZOOM!!! DISC WARS GO BOOM!!!” and so once that stuff was over, I was bored. 27-year-old me has gained appreciation for movie scores and cinematography. I kept thinking how well this movie could have worked as a modern-day silent film because the score is perfect and every shot when they’re in the grid is also perfect. But 27-year-old me also appreciates the idea of creators vs. created, the ideals of perfection, etc. I love Flynn’s line at the end when he apologizes to Clu about giving him the mandate of perfection because he himself didn’t even know what it meant at the time. Tl;dr this channel has given me a lot of tools to understanding movies and I enjoyed this movie a lot more after not having seen it for 10 years 😂

If you have watched the 3D version (which I saw in theaters), the start of the movie up until he goes into the Grid is 2D. Once he is transported into the Grid, it changes to 3D. I absolutely love Tron. I think it's such a clever idea, and God damn was that film groundbre for 1981. So you can imagine my hype when this was announced. And it did NOT disappoint. The updated, sleeker look (like the Grid updated with technology over the years), the story, the elements they used from the original film, Rizzler/Tron, the acting, DAFT PUNK... And, to its credit, some impressive CGI work when reconstructing an entire face was still a fairly new concept (as far as I remember it was one of the first films to use motion capture to de-age a face for an entire film like this).
