Batman v Superman week 3/3! We finally come to Man of Steel, the film that created the DCEU so that Dawn of Justice could exist. Let's all ignore what the early reviews are saying and judge for ourselves... Or I guess I'll just have to do an EGA Dawn of Justice in a few months. Man of Steel has some vocal critics and this is why they're wrong. Here's everything right with Man of Steel. Next week a 2015 success that surprised no one.

It's as the narrator says. The movie was well received at first but over the time, people have started nitpicking, especially after the string of criticall acclaimed Marvel movies people tend to feel that every superhero movie must be like MCU. They forget that MCU heroes and DC heroes are very different in their origins and powers.

Best DCEU movie imo. Man Of Steel=6/10 - Great movie, but could of been a lot shorter. Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice=5/10 - Great in terms of realism, but quite boring Suicide Squad=2/10 - *bleugh* Wonder Woman=4/10 - 1st act was okay, rest wasn't that great Justice League=3/10 - Bad CG, horrible plot. Still some good aspects.

My only problems are maybe too many special effects(Pa's death), too much grey in the visuals for the Bright Blue Boyscoutt, Zod's acting was kinda all over the place despite having well written motivations, and while Lois plays a much more vital role it's not with any charm that stands out. I like this film, but it's not flawless

I LOVED the level of destruction in Man of Steel, I really don't understand the hate in generated. We're talking about two godlike beings battling on our fragile little planet, I think anything less would be hugely unrealistic and I think attempting to avoid it, attempting to have supposedly godlike beings fight in a way that does little to no damage, is part of what makes many of the fights in previous films feel so goofy.

Both Marvel and DC are great but they have their ups and downs. It is the FANBOYS who come and ruin it by taking one information and using it insult a company. You obviously did not understand what this video was trying to convey. MoS would not be a "shit" movie if it got stuff right. Snyder brought Krypton, Superman, superhuman hand to hand combats, etc. to the big screen. There were reason to why some events happened in the film. Same with BVS. Both these movies are heavily flawed but that doesn't make them shit. It still has its pros.

I never noticed the so called "disregard for human life and property damage" until it was pointed out, I recently rewatched this movie and... its not true. He smashes a few buildings sure but a lot of it is him being thrown into them. It makes sense, its his first fight, he hasnt thought it through like an older Superman would. He just gets mad for a minute and they end up in a town. Also... he never had a disregard for human life. He saves the copter, he saves the guy with the knife from Faora, sorry, dont remember his name, he helps the military and akes friends with them right after. Even the final battle is him protecting humans resulting in his first kill. Cavills delivery of "You think you can threaten my mother?!" was one of his best Superman moments. An alien from another world is protecting him mother and flies into a rage because someone hurt her. Thats relateable, thats Superman. Hes human deep down.

Wish they showed that more with him stopping in the fight to try to save people other than just Lois or his mother. I can understand here where he's able to save her because he's(mainly)in the same place constantly. However, theres like sixteen times he saves her alone(including in BVS, where she's across the world in that warzone and then after he quit being Superman because Luthors dumb plan to make him look bad made him sad, lol.) I don't mean he has to be smiling all the time as he saves people or save cats from trees onscreen, but we need to see that he ENJOYS doing this. That he LIKES helping people and its not just an obligation. His own adoptive father in this version is all "let people die if you need to!"that it makes me wonder if Cavills Superman even has enough humanity. Comparing Cavills and Reeve, we have very little interaction between Clark and his mother(the scene where she talks him down when his powers are going off, when when he returns after he found the Fortress(er, ship?)of Solitude and her telling him "you don't owe anyone anything"in BVS. In the interactions between Martha of Reeve's film and John of Reeves film, it's got a little bit of angst(when he leaves to find the Fortress is a big angst moment, as well as his adoptive father dying and him being totally unable to save him(unlike this version, where he CHOOSES not to save him), but in their short time with Reeve's version of Clark, we see their connection and why he eventually decides to reveal himself to the world. He even says to his fathers image that it feels good to save people. Cheesy though Reeve's may be by todays standards, he showed more of a love of humanity than Cavill's ever does. Cavill's seems to be so sad being a lonely god that his only loved ones are Lois and "MARTTTTHHHHAAAA!" But I guess thats because he's supposed to turn "Injustice"in JL. Even Whedons JL can't reverse Cavills downward spiral to make him likable when his characterization was already plummeting down the drain. Snyder tries to handwave that Superman SAYS he loves humanity when he says it to Lois before he kills himself on that ugly non Doomsday clones spikes, but you have to SHOW it or you simply have a mopey jerk we can't empathize with.

No, the reason people don't like it is similar to why people don't like the "Martha" scene in BvS. It's not that the thing happened, but _how_ it happened that people don't like. We all knew Batman and Superman would stop fighting, but how it gets to that point is so contrived that it highlights how poorly written most comic book characters are. What are the chances that both our heroes had a mother with the same name? One that sounds lazily like mother? Like I said before, it's a similar problem here. We know Zod is probably going to die, because that's what happens to villains in superhero _movies_ , but after we've spent the last half an hour watching them demolish most of a populated city it comes down to the most anti-climactic neck snap to save a bunch of people we've never seen before, and never see again. Good job Supes, at least that one family got out.

Probably because murder isnt in supermans character. Supes vs the elite had a similar premise; superman saved the villain and he escaped and murdered some more people. It was a heated argument and most people came down on the Elites side and said some villains had to die. But superman stuck to his guns and almost died fighting to not have to kill people. This movie seems to ignore that dogged belief of his. Not entirely wrong but alot of fans feel like it isnt in character; even the fans that thought it was very dumb thought it was still a part of supermans character which has been changed.

He made mistakes, yes. But that's because he was still new to the game. I also hear people saying Cavill's Superman doesn't save people. But that's exactly what he did in MoS and BvS mulitple times. As for the villain, still the best one out of all the DCEU films. Because Zod actually had a legit purpose as the video stated. MoS is still my number one DCEU film for now.

I always felt this was the case. His aversion from killing is due to him personally executing the only other known living kryptonian. We see he hates what he did immediately with that epic, agonizing scream. That would certainly impact his decisions moving forward. Also, Superman has killed in the comics and animated movies. He's killed Doomsday and scores of parademons, and that's not even counting the injustice storyline. He will totally kill if there's no other option.

Lol, that was such a dumb scene, I was shaking my head at it. Batman doesn't need to kill one person to know that it's wrong. Reeve's Superman neither. Nolan even wanted Zod locked in the Phantom Zone with the others, but Snyder said "No, we need to see where the rule comes from!" and probably tacked on an extra half hour to the movie for that final fight, lol. And seeing Supermans reaction is not the same as understanding how it feels for Superman, as Zod and Kal are antagonistic from the very beginning and this version of Kal does not have any humanity, any love shown to anyone other than his mother and Lois(who he saves constantly, compared to other people in the middle of the warzone created by his and Zods fight(and Zod needs the codex in Clarks head to recreate Krypton, so why the hell doesn't Superman just lead him away after he destroys the planet cracker in the uninhabited area? Lol.) Unfortunately this version was before the "Earth One"Superman comic came out with Zod, where Superman is approached by Zod and was still early in his career,. Zod portrays himself as another surviving Kryptonian, befriends him and offers to teach him, only to reveal later that he spitefully joined an enemy race that warred with Krypton when he was removed from his position of power as a general. He gave this race the means to destroy Krypton by destabilizing the planets core and he only wanted to make all other Kryptonians extinct. To have the two as allies or friends would be better than just rushing forward with the "I hate you and we have the same powers!" schtick that most superhero movies do.

He had the same fears as Martha did later in the film, that they would try to take their child from them. It's sad but also beautiful. As a parent myself I wouldn't think twice about protecting my kids even if death was certain. It's a very poignant scene.

@ewanmack6537 4 жыл бұрын
@@zedgovos4914 just bear in mind before reading this that I am a lifelong Superman fan who has read the comics since I was basically a foetus, so here goes 😂. The character shown in Man of Steel bares practically no resemblance to the true Man of Steel. He is distant, moody and acts as though he were a god, uncaring for the mortals around him. This isn't Superman. He shows none of the care, compassion and charm that Superman shows. He's not someone we can look up to. The real Superman wouldn't destroy blocks and blocks of a city and all of Downtown Smallville, putting millions of innocent lives at risk, he would take the fight elsewhere. Superman does not care about the greater good, Superman cares about the individual, if one innocent life was ended, in his eyes, he has failed. The character in Man of Steel shows no such care. He doesn't seem to care about that much on Earth besides Lois Lane and his mom, which makes us wonder why he is bothering to save it really, when he could just save those two people. Superman has lots of things he should love about Earth, it's as much his home as it is ours. The character in this snaps Zod's neck without REALLY trying anything, sure there was the human family under threat, but was there really nothing else he could do? Superman does not trade lives, there is ALWAYS another way. Superman is a symbol for truth, justice and the American way. He represents the pinnacle of what someone should be, someone willing always to give, to do the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do, to save everyone, no matter the personal cost to himself, no matter whether they are good or evil. Superman is something we should all aspire to be, but the character shown to us in this movie covers little to nothing of what I have talked about. For some reason, Zack Snyder decided to make Superman dark and edgy, when that's not who he is. And even as a starry-eyed, easily impressed child back in 2013 when I went to see this film in the cinema, I looked up at the screen and thought "This is not Superman" (or words to that effect). My problem with this character is that it is character assassination at it's most blatant. It simply isn't Superman.

The anti-bullying message applies to anyone who is mentally different, for starters. When I was younger, my mother showed me this movie to show me that I wasn’t the only one that struggled with sensory overload. I and many people with ADHD and/or Autism are hypersensitive to various input. For me, it’s noises and touch. For Clark, it was hearing and seeing absolutely everything. That scene with Clark in the closet trying to collect himself? I’ve done that. I didn’t heat vision the door, but you get my point. I was often singled out because I was an easy bully target. I reacted strongly and loudly. I now realize that many of them were probably just teasing me a bit, but because I process information differently than most, I took it the wrong way. That led to the bullying more than anything, I think. Because Clark is an alien, he thinks and reacts differently, too.

I feel like one of the major themes of this movie is that while you should always strive to do the right thing, that’s not always the convenient or obvious or easy thing. That’s first highlighted when pa Kent talks about the bus. He wasn’t saying “yeah let the fckers drown!” (Like some people think for some reason) he was saying he doesn’t know. Because there is no right way to answer that. He’s not omnipotent. He’s just a father trying to keep his son safe. Same goes for his death. It was to highlight that what he thought was the right thing wasn’t the easy thing. And it culminates with the final zod scene. Snyder deliberately placed Superman in a situation where either he had to kill Zod to save humanity, or not kill him and doom earth. There was no convenient third option, no prison could hold zod and kryptonite wasn’t a thing yet. Superman chose to end zod and he wasn’t proud of it. He made the decision he thought was right, but it cost him. Like any hard decision should.

I don't get the hate for all the destruction in Metropolis during the fight with Zod. It's as though people forget Superman and Darkseid tore up Metropolis in the animated series. Hell, some of the scenes are mimicked in Man of Steel...only instead of punching Darkseid through several buildings, Zod throws Superman through them. Also, having threatened to kill every human 1 by 1 Zod also threatened to kill both Martha Kent and Lois Lane the two people Superman loves above all others...Idk about U, but I'd kill to save the lives of my mom and daughter. Just my two cents.

7:06 not to mention Supes made the only choice readily available to him. Ghost dad said himself that Zod wouldn't stop and Zod himself said it and proved it, it doesn't matter if Supes beats him here he'll just get up and keep trying to kill everyone. If it wasn't these humans it was gonna be the next group and Zod really is trying to kill everyone around him. Plus the only reason Supes is winning right now is he's spent so much longer under the effects of the yellow sun which gives him the power advantage over Zod that is just enough to get him the win Supes is stronger but Zod is a born and bred warrior he's practically mastered his powers just by seeing what Supes can do. And being under the yellow rays of the sun would let him grow just as strong. There really was no other outcome. I know the add doesn't like killing and as much as it hate Supes to do it this was the right move

People seem to forget the Superman from the comics (Man of Steel, the modern comic version that started in the 80s and is probably the most iconic of all of them these days), killed Zod too. Zod told him that he would "not stop until billions were dead." Did Superman break is neck? Nope, he poisoned him to death with Krytponite. This started Superman on a journey of discovery that led him to becoming Superman.
@barrylyndon5552

Maybe. Although Batman has his one rule, no killing no matter what. If Zod had killed these people that would be on Zods hands, Superman knows it can be a slipper slope between killing a murderous alien, killing a murderous human, killing a potentially murderous human, killing those that would stop him from his own version of Justice, becoming Zod. He is a hyper powered alien, he knows clinging to some extremely important rules may be what allows his mind to remain human.

Jimmy DcRiket I initially didn’t like Man of Steel much but I have to say it has grown into one of my favorite DCEU films. Zod was perhaps the best villain in the DCEU by far who had a deep personal relation with Clark and you really sympathized with him when need be. It makes the final battle being character-driven all the better. Lois Lane was possibly my favorite itsration of Lois ever who didn’t constantly scream in a shrill voice or acted as a liability for Superman but was rather an independent character in her own right. Clark and Superman weren’t the Superman we all know and love *yet* because that was part of the character arc. “ They will race behind you. They will stumble. They will fall. But, in time, they will join you in the sun. “ Superman was a man who was thrust into an alien world and who was unsure of his place in the world. But he would eventually grow into the Beacon of Hope we all know and love by the end of Zack’s quintology. He wasn’t misunderstood or missed the point at all. Rather it was just not the Superman we know *yet.* Man of Steel also had the richest and most fascinating world-building of any CBM of recent times. The way they explored Krypton’s lore and added to the intrigue was awesome.

I think its a really good movie, too, but as a comic book fan I have some problems - mostly him letting Pa Kent die and killing Zod. What you have to realize about both of them is simply that the writers and directors CREATED those situations. They DECIDED the movie would go that way. The thing about there being no way to stop Zod and his army of Kryptonians? Sure there is - you toss them back into the Phantom Zone. They could have easily given Supes a McGuffin to do that, but decided NOT TO! Would it have required them to change the story? Yes. Absolutely. But THEY COULD HAVE, and chose not to! Saying that Supes had no choice but to do what he did assumes that this isn't a story, and that the writers didn't have complete control over what happened in it, which is patently absurd. These aren't real life events! The writers and director CHOSE to have the climax of the story be Superman killing Zod! As far as dramatic moments goes, it was excellent! As far as staying to true to Supes' boy scout code of honor? Not so much. Incredible movie. Poor decision for the finale. Anyone arguing against that because they liked it gets to have their opinion, of course, but simply saying that it couldn't have ended any other way, as I see so many people do, is silly.

1. Zack Snyder’s Superman Man of steel is and was epic, one of the best movies of all time, a very detailed, potent, in-depth look for the beginning of any superhero especially Superman; I have to give it up for the director Zack Snyder, the writers, and the producers, because it is very hard to write a story line, to direct and produce a movie for a character like Superman with Godlike powers, the first question is what kind of story can you have for a being like that. 2. Man of Steel was very realistic very grounded and reality-based, the biggest issue that people had with this film was the distraction of the city, but if this was to actually happen in our world yes it would be no holds bar of destruction; this movie had no red tape’s in groundedness and realism as to what could actually happen and most likely would. 3. Compared to any other Superman movie 🎥 this would be considered rated R. This was a Superman movie the world was not ready for but need, unfortunately moviegoers are still in tuned and corrupted with a Disney tone boring family like movie where nobody dies or gets mortally wounded [director Joss Whedon], moviegoers are still adopted to superman saving a fucking cat out of a tree

And yeah, Snyder loved Smallville... there's a few in there, the bald Kryptonian played an old Lex clone, and the guy from Galactica played Dr Emil Hamilton... so he's standing next to himself in a few scenes XD I'd have to look up if there's any others.

After seeing the Snyder Cut, its clear that Earth was chosen as Kal's destination for a reason: the Kryptonians knew the Anti-Life equation was there. It jives with the Mother Boxes and Kryptonian ship being connected (as stated in the movie). Also resolves the "random selection" problem that Superman arriving on Earth has always had.

Two comments about the city-destroying fight. First, as you said, this Superman is new to the gig, no experience under his belt, never learned to minimize collateral damage. He hasn't even really developed a code yet. And the original plan was for the events of this movie to be what motivates him to develop his code in/for the sequel. Secondly, people bitch that he should have taken the fight somewhere else, and to that I say "pfft, yeah, good luck with that". Zod was intent on destroying humans, why would he care where they fought? He'd _want_ to stay in the city. He'd have no reason to go somewhere with no people around, and every reason to stay, knowing that killing more humans would cause Superman more pain. Even if Superman could force Zod away, Zod would just go right back to the city. On top of that, there were other Kryptonians attacking the city anyways, that Supes wouldn't have been able to intervene with if necessary.

Gosh, I love this movie with a passion. Among all the criticisms it faced, the one that bothered me the most was that it was supposedly dark and gritty, but it wasn't. Dark and Gritty would be the Nolan Batman Trilogy, the Daredevil show, the Punisher movies, the Blade films, Ghost Rider, The Crow (they even explore incest), and the first three seasons of Arrow. MOS was just dramatic and serious, that's all. One could argue that the world in which Superman exists (both here and in the follow-up) is dark, but that's nothing new at all...

There is one thing I LOVE about this channel. It points out deeper meanings with movies. From Superman's scream at the end of Man of Steel to Batman stopping the beat down on superman in BVS when superman says MARTHA, each of these moments have deeper meanings. I think we all have become conditioned by marvel to think that all super hero films have to be fun romps with each hero wearing their emotions on their sleeves. Personally I like the dark/deeper super hero films. Nolan's Batman trilogy is one of my favorite things on planet earth. Honestly, Man of Steel is a great superman film that sets up a great and large universe.

THANK YOU! All the things you say in this video are what I've been saying about Man of Steel since it came out - especially about this being Clark's first fight. The film goes out of its way to show us that he's never thrown a punch before - imo that's half the point of the bullying scene - so I really hate that people compare the Metropolis fight to the big fight in Avengers. Everyone in that fight scene has combat experience. Oh, and they have a team. Iron Man's entire job in that fight is keeping the conflict within a small perimeter. Supes has no one to back him up, no combat experience, no field awareness, no real idea of how strong he is b/c he's never pushed his limits before. Tbh, we should be clapping that he didn't break his fist the first time he punched a Kyrptonian.

@MooCowManHG
@MooCowManHG 8 жыл бұрын
+Giovanni Alckmim Russo But you really don't know that. You're just trying to dismiss the opinions of those who disagree with you. I'm a huge fan of both comics and the superhero genre, liked Man of Steel, but still wasn't a huge fan of BvS. The editing was really messy in certain areas and the plot felt like an attempt to crush two and a half different story lines into one movie leaving me feeling that neither TDKR or Death of Superman were done any justice (Death of Superman really should be its own movie). Choices like the one to kill Jimmy Olsen off immediately (without any real introduction in the original cut) rather than just exclude his character from these movies or to make Batman kill feel like lazy ways to mess with fan expectations. Maybe those things will be better explained later on but for now, it only brings the movie down. With that said, I did like certain parts like the warehouse scene with Batman which really did feel like it was ripped out of the comics. It's just that, IMO, there weren't enough scenes like that for them to outweigh the many flaws the movie has. I can definitely see why others, especially comic book and superhero fans, would be disappointed.

My favorite Jonathan Kent is John Schneider on "Smallville," largely because his moral compass ion reminds me positively of my own dad, and the kind of dad I want to be. My favorite scene in this movie is where Clark's X-ray vision kicks on in class and he hides in a closet to avoid the overstimulation. I have two boys with severe autism, and that is the best illustration of what it is like for them.

This movie is a perfect example of nostalgia ruining a good remake. The audience knows what this character is capable of, and a long history. When the character doesn't rise to that immediate level, they consider it "wrong". This movie really did make Superman seem like an evolving relatable hero. When he grew up, you kind of felt like you were growing up with him. When he first started flying, the audience felt like they were flying. It was told in a bit slow way, but the biggest issue with Superman has always been how some fans just can't relate to a "god" character. That's why Batman has always been popular. You can understand him better. The approach of slowly explaining why how Superman became who he is in his early stage, made this Superman feel more real. He wasn't a God pretending to be human and we just got to like him because he is the hero of the story. He was an outsider trying to fit into the world, and learning how to do the right thing.

Ahhhh yes, I remember seeing this movie opening weekend. A friend called and asked if I wanted to see this and I was excited as he was but for slightly different reasons: he's a big comic fan while Supes is my favorite DC hero. Still, we went in excited and hopeful....... and we left excited, hopeful and happy. Supes never looked more badass yet still humble and heroic and even human, reminding me why he was and still is my favorite DC hero. The first flight, the fights, even Zod's death made me feel Kal's power yet his raw emotions made me see him with weaknesses I never saw before, so way to go Henry on the stellar job. We were discussing right through the credits and on the drive back like excited 5 yr olds. But I was shocked when I started hearing the haters including another friend that had serious hate for it, we had a back and forth argument over it and it's a rare thing we disagree on. I still love this movie, my view won't change and I'm sad to see Henry more then likely departing cause I never saw a more realistic Kal/Clark to this day and might never again. Henry Cavill is my Superman from now on and I hope he comes back.

Actually if you look back far enough Thor IS your grandpas Superman. Fanboys love to tout sups as being only what he became in the 70s and 80s but in the beginning he wasn't so different from what we got in this film. He didn't start with impossibly grand power sets, he was just a bit stronger faster better than the people he fought and when it was needed, when he decided it was just he DID kill people. what's disturbing when you talk to those who don't like this return to supermans roots is that they inevitably extend the morality imposed on superman to the rest of us. I have been told by people when I hypothesize them selves in a similar life or death situation, where they can either take the life of a would be killer or allow many innocents to be killed that they WOULD allow the person to kill rather than kill them instead. Reasoning that they would bear no burden from their inaction, that's just mind blowing to me!
