Just stumbled upon your videos and love your energy! You had me laughing out loud on the train at 5am comparing baguettes and apples. Year two of “really” knitting for me and I’m just starting to make some garments for myself and love the ideas you shared. Thanks for being a bright light in this world!

As a plus size knitter and crocheter, it is so lovely to see straight size fiber artists choosing to intentionally support size inclusive patterns. Everyone deserves to be able to make items that will fit their body without having to modify a paid pattern. Thank you for spreading awareness

your videos showing your progress as a beginner to making the ingrid sweater after 2 years is so inspiring to me! i also learned to knit in fifth grade but dropped it after making two scarves lol but now i’m going to try the step by step sweater by florence miller (made by florence on yt). i love your attitude that everything is a lesson learned. also - i’ve been embroidering for about 6 mos so i’d still say i’m a beginner but french knots have been the most frustrating stitch to me! i always want my stitches to be tight but french knots (in embroidery thread) are prettier a bit looser. i also find the chain stitch (which you used on that baby sweater/cardigan) to be frustrating because it’s hard to get the stitch length to be even. anyway, subbed and excited to see what you knit in 2023!

Great video! I love cami no. 5 as well but will not be knitting it bc if the bra issue. No bra is no longer an option for these tatas! I also loved, loved the anker - I made the summer version in Line. Going to cast on a long sleeve version of it soon. Such a good style! Very flattering.

Love seeing you knits! I just commented to say that I think the Stockholm Slipover would look lovely with a dark blue or another coloured t-shirt under (and with darker denim) because, as you said, it does not go with white. I imagine cold dark blue would suit you otherwise, too!

This was fun! I’ll be watching past and future installments! As to that DROPS top, I think if you have enough yarn to add some very short sleeves, it could be useful. Granted, it looks awful as-is, but that’s mainly because the armholes are ridiculously draggy. Adding sleeves would make it even less hot-weather-friendly than it is now, but I think it would end up kind of cute. Good luck with your 2023 knits!

Love the cashmere sweater! I thrifted one recently, but it didn’t fit well, so I reclaimed the yarn and now I’m double stranding cashmere with cotton for a spring sweater 😭❤️ also I would advise felting some fleece into the interior of your balaclava. I’d just be super careful with how much you felt it, because it will affect the exterior look. Cheers!

I feel the same way about Cami No. 5, including the decision not to knit from that designer anymore. I wore it a bit to work under unbuttoned button up shirts but that could be too casual for a lot of work places. I have a similar bra unfriendliness issue with some of my other summer knits too. I'm looking forward to this summer of summer knits and applying what I learned from last summer 😅 So far I have yarn for an Outline Tee and a Demilune Top 😊 I really appreciated hearing about the afghan you made as a gift. what an amazing gift and so nice that it was so perfect for her ❤️

I love seeing your year of makes! Girl, DROPS patterns are freaking toxic -- I hate them so much! They're SO hard to read, they never fit properly, and they all just end up looking like sacks on bodies. At least they make nice yarn and it's at affordable prices haha! Also, thank you so much for stepping up and choosing not to make non-size-inclusive patterns!
@knitsbymandy2 жыл бұрын
I also learned that DROPS commonly steals designs which is a bummer, but needless to say I will not be making one again hehe. Moving to size inclusive patterns will be easy considering all of the great pattern round-ups you've done 😄

I also made my first summer knits in 2022 and so far all of them failed somehow (a wraptop and a camisole). 🙈 Maybe the fibre is so different to wool and the fit has to be different to winter garments that it's not as straightforward. Mine were basically all too big after a couple of wears. I'm going to frog and knit something else.

That’s so interesting. Alpaca blended with anything has always been way to hot for me. Is it because the wind is blowing through the holes in the knitwear?
@knitsbymandy2 жыл бұрын
I think it may have to do with the gauge as well as the silk-to-alpaca ratio!

I’m on neckline island of my Ingrid sweater (literally why?? it’s barely any knitting and I’m just putting it off) so seeing yours is the kick in the ass I needed to pick it up again. What did you do for your collar? It looks like twisted rib but I can’t fully tell and I have no idea how I’m gonna do mine. Any tips would be appreciated 🖤
@knitsbymandy2 жыл бұрын
I did 1x1 rib the entire way and picked up stitches at the rate suggested in the pattern! I was going for a mock neck and kept trying on to determine the length. You got this!

for the cami no. 5, you can layer a button up shirt on top or maybe a black/white denim jacket and wear it in spring/fall i wear mine all the time on their own, but if you have a bra with detachable straps, you can cross them on the back and the camisole straps will hide them! :)

As a plus size woman, I’m glad there are more size inclusive patterns. However not supporting someone, just because they may not design for all sizes. Is not a valid reason not to support them.

Respectfully I think it’s a personal and nuanced choice, but appreciate your comment. 💕

I don't get your comment about size inclusivity... quick browsing through MFTK's patterns and they go from XS to XXL.
@knitsbymandy2 жыл бұрын
I believe the accepted standard for a pattern being size inclusive, according to other creators and the yarn crafting council who creates grading guides for designers, is making patterns up to a 5XL or a 60'' bust. Fo MFTK's patterns that only go up to an XXL, it is limiting to those who only have a 47" bust or smaller. I believe she has started to make a few patterns up to a 3XL or 4XL but personally I'd rather support other designers that have a larger range of size inclusive garments at this time. Here is a link to the yarn crafting council as well: www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/woman-size
