They actually have been adding new food recipes to the game with quite a few different updates. Basically, whenever they add a new item, they add a small number of recipes to go with it. But it's typically only about 5-10 new recipes per update.

I completely agree! There are some folks who will say “oh, but there’s Redux expeditions!” In my opinion, while redux expeditions are cool if you’re lucky enough to catch them in their extremely small time frames, they just don’t have any longevity. With the increasing number of expeditions dropping every few months, the strategy of only including the most recent expeditions plus one from a while back just doesn’t fit their (and the gaming industry in general) plan of growing the player base with each new update, only causing more and more people to feel annoyed that they missed out on even the simplest of rewards.

We usually get 3-4 expeditions per year and at the end of the year there's a rerun of a few previous expeditions. If you're on PC, you can easily get the items through save editing.

A way of balancing having access to all of the expeditions at all times could be making it so you have to either do them in order or you have to purchase them by using ingredients that relate to that expedition.

Agreed. I play on switch with mobile hotspot due to lack of internet access and Switch never even had access to the old Expeditions until i think Expedition 9 or 10? No one on switch had an opportunity to get the Normandy ship from the Mass Effect crossover that killed me

Recipes - Nightmare sausage and Gelatenous Membrane, Syrupy Viscera both added in one of the recent expeditions (Fractal). Crafting them was one of the phase requirements.

It looks like its to catch any last bugs before they introduce carrying an existing character into a new expedition, so it shouldnt be too long before it reaches us. Experimental Expedition is set to end on monday or tuesday, can't recall. Assuming they dont come across any gamebreak earth shattering bugs they werent expecting with the new system, the public branch should be updated more or less as the experimental expedition ends. I got no plans Valentines day so a hot date with my space game is what I'm at least hoping for XD Anythign after that and I might have to grab my pitchfork and start calling them out XD

I kept finding bases built by players blocking the new expedition progress. They had somehow hidden the base computers so could.not be reported and were preventing any digging of the ground. For example, I could.not access the crashed freighter pods because of this obnoxious base playment. How about Hello Games prevents base placement on expedition pbjectives it seems an obvious thing to do as it wrecks the game for everybody.

13:50 Ha, I may or may not have brought up the idea of “abyss-themed rewards” in the live stream, but I won’t go ahead and take the credit. But besides that, I absolutely adore the themed rewards that we get, as they are unique ways to develop a story and theming for an expedition that may not have one, for example, the rewards of the Leviathan expedition, which were all living-frigate themed. On the opposite side of the spectrum there’s the expeditions with poorly-developed reward themes, like in Exobiology. Those rewards, the wingpack, jet trail, and quad robot thing all felt very loosely connected. Just my thoughts haha.

It's almost overwhelming the amount of stuff that people have been finding in this experimental.. huge new stuff, overhauls to really old stuff, and even changes to little things like NPCs having dialogue when you shoot them based on your reputation and language, new icons, even something as simple as starships now having their screens animate when you're taking off. It's almost hard to believe we could get all of these things in the first update of the year. Makes me almost think the space stations won't be included just so we're not overwhelmed but it'd be weird to show off a new ship and space station and then not include both in the same update lol. People have also pointed out how the Autophage came back from the dead so maybe Artemis could come back as well, especially now that the Atlas Path got expanded! I don't think I've been this excited for an update before! Btw I believe Fractal was the most recent update where new food items were added for the baby worms.

You know what! I even made a video specifically covering the fact that worm recipes were added to the game. lol I can't believe I blanked on that. Well, that's what I get for recording without a script. Thanks for pointing that out. And yeah, I don't know if we should expect the space stations in this update or not. There seems to be enough to satiate folks without them, especially if there's more in the final release than the experimental patch. I almost feel like the new space stations would be too much at this point. Like Sean said, if you put too many cool features in a single update, people will inevitably miss some. Settlement charts are already on sale by the cartographers in all space stations, it is not something new. However in the normal game they actually work and point you towards a planetary settlement that you can take up as overseer, not to ruins. It must be bugged there if it led you to a ruin.

Something i really wished the devs would add. Is a system where you could build/customize your own ship. Like you could break down ships you already have, and take different parts of it, and design it to your likening. Different cockpits, wings, trusters ect. And insted of just having them decorative, add stats to them so they have an extra ump behind it. Like some fuselages could hold extra cargo, while others are more heavly armored/ faster or more health, or got less cargo space and so on. Same goes for trusters. Some are faster but got worse turn radius, other slower but got way faster turn radious. And at the same time you could perhaps finaly get to paint your ship in your favourite colours, instead of looking for 2000h after just the right ship design and right colour. But unfortunatly, unless more people start asking for it, we most likely aint ever gonna see somthing like that. #CustomShipsForNMS

The nex starship is interesting, but I can't help but wonder about a possible future procedural ship class. Last year we got the Utopia Speeder, and just looking at it when one pulls into the Soace Anomaly, it uses a LOT of assets from the Sentinek shils in the next update. Now I wonder if this summer we'll be getting a new ship class utilizing some of the Starbourne Runner's design

Space races would be cool. If they use a checkpoint system where you gotta fly through hoops, they could do time trials and have encounterable npcs that challenge you. You can wager nanites, or materials. It would work well with the safety override upgrade that allows you to basically drift

There was a different freighter layout long ago. The stairs were in the middle of the hanger. They removed the second version when they added the ability to own a freighter. So it didn't even last a year.

I like that you can transfer stuff to the expedition, will make my playstyle of starting a new game everytime more usable since I can go from expidetion save to normal then throw important stuff in a box and keep going with updates

The name of the update is interesting. Sean tweeted out the omega symbol in lieu of an emoji this time around, so I think its very likely that either the expedition or update will have that name. The next update is supposedly the fourth and final part of the Autophage story, and since the Autophages use greek letters in their language so Omega really makes sense. What's weird though, in the language files of the experimental update, the expedition is apparently supposed to be called 'Starseed' and back during the Game Awards, we got that teaser trailer for an update called 'Evolution' that would have the new stations and the new ship (and also showed a pirate dreadnaught). I have to wonder if HG just decided to rename the expedition, rename the update, or if Evolution is a different update coming later (the new station models still didn't get re-added in experimental).

Exactly. Not to mention that I don’t keep track of this game on a regular basis. I come back every few months or sometimes a whole year. And I’ve played boy partake in one expedition so far cause I’ve missed the rest. It just sucks ass cause the rewards are extremely cool. All I’ve got was the leviathan fraget ship. Wich is a pretty awesome ship but I would have liked some of those other rewards.

@@Manie230 to be fair, the Leviathan isn't exactly unique. It's the same as any other living frigate, it's really just an extra free S class frigate. You're not missing much.

I did a bug with singularity now I have both, Crimson AND atlanted to do this: make a save then go claim one reload and get the other then after that you can get both, AND also I wish they made a NMS official cook book (which it would be long)

As far as cooking is concerned I'd love to have a backpack nutrient processor like we have the backpack refiner. I think it would make cooking a lot more accessible and appealing. Instead of waiting around for minutes I can just explore around and come back to whatever recipe I was working on. There's an NPC at the anomaly who rewards nanites for cooking, but that's about the only reason to do it aside from selling them outright. An expansion to the importance of cooking would be cool but I don't want a hunger bar for our character or anything like that

An interesting idea! Perhaps this could be a part of a “Personal Refiner Mk III,” (which would also have three refiner slots) or something. Dunno, but cooking is definitely an underutilized mechanic.

They’ll probably merge your inventory with your regular one. Or put the stuff you have found in some kind of lost and found storage where you can grab it and put it into your base. Or they only let you keep specific things or you need to select a few items you would like to keep.

God its night and day with this game and others. I play Destiny 2 and the morale is just so low. We lost a fuck ton of devs right before holidays. We're in the longest season of our last expansion. Corporate Bungie is basically ruining the game. Then you come to No Mans Sky. And its fucking so different

It is really sad to see what's been happening with Bungie and Destiny 2. There was a short period of time where I loved to play, but then they started vaulting content that I had unlocked before I could complete it. It really killed my appetite for the game. No Man's Sky has been improving since 2016 and pretty consistent since 2020. It's a great time to be a NMS fan! Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@Kanaju it really is. Currently I cant really suggest getting into it. The full story is on sale on humble bundle thankfully. But they arent sunsetting (content vaulting) anything else aside from the seasonal stories, which they always do when the next expansion launches. Currently we're in the final and longest season of Lightfall. Our next expansion is final shape and its looking to be very good honestly. Its still difficult to really recommend the game without having a Virgil to light ones path through the darkness of ignorance. Because Bungie itself hasnt done great at being that guide through the continued story of Destiny and the small nuances and changes that have led to where we are now. If you wanted to get back into it, the devs are really trying to fix it and this is probably the best time to start with every expansion being on sale. And thank you for making these videos. You have been a great help in getting me to understand and enjoy No Mans Sky and figure out the game. Im about to go watch your patch notes video for the Omega update actually on that note.

I'd love to play this but won't! I stopped playing when I lost every Twitch & Expedition item I earned in game! No matter what I do from deleting game, reinstalling game, & clear saves I no longer have them on any character I have! Make new character & nothing! Which is sad because I love NMS! Hello Games can't & won't help me! They said after I did the things, I said earlier that they could not help me if those didn't work! I wish I knew how to get all the things I have lost because I would come back!

If to do expeditions from a main save, HG ought to have had to do much better job. In my opinion most of expeditions up to now many steps have been lazy job, along forcing to start from scratch. Not all like repetitive grinding that are wasted when the expedition is over, or do speedruns. Similar to many Nexus missions and such, things done often several times. The terminal is progress, along agree it ought to offer all older expeditions and maybe regular smaller new ones.

I am on Xbox. Today, I came face to face with a Pirate Dreadnought. I had no idea what it was & I couldn't shoot any of the pirates fighters. I fled to the space station that turned out to bet a pirate camp. I am confused. There's still no multi player. Any ideas what's going on?

I'm sorry to hear that. The experimental branch and its patch notes are released publicly by Hello Games for public consumption. I refrained from speaking on the interesting story elements I encountered during my playthrough. I limited my footage of the new ship to what we've already seen from the official trailer. I mention features that have been discovered in the new patch, but I don't show footage or screenshots of any of them except for the new stuff in the anomaly. Considering this content has been released publicly (as I'm able to play it without mods), I think it's a fair subject to cover. I do give a spoiler warning in the first two minutes before I discuss anything in detail as well. Even if you watched all 35 minutes of this video, I'm sure there would still be surprises when the update hits consoles.

Granted the Thumbnail was a bit of a kick in the nuts; but Kanaju is a down to earth decent dude I'm sure he'll take the criticism on board and of course thumbnails can be changed. However seeing a helmet variant (is that JK from Jamiroquais robot hat that got stolen?!) is hardly what I'd call destroying a surprise, nor would I consider people streaming an experimental run-through of an expedition ruining it. Theres plenty more in the expedition, like the actual journey itself (the rewards are just that, rewards) not to mention an entire content update thats coming alongside it (if not soon after, delays permitted). Hello games also mentioned its a variant of the actual Expedition so it sounds to me like any big surprises or secrets have already been scrubbed from the experimental version (rewards aside, which seem intact as intended) It's easy to just not click in to these things, or knowing what we know of past releases etc, best to just skip youtube and news feeds for a while and quickly skim past anything NMS related. Very hard to do in a world with ever growing push from the algo of things we like and talk about. For example I wanted to go see How Do You Live/Boy and Heron without knowing anything about it. Having the film be named Boy and Heron was already telling me too much. THen US distro opened the flood gates on promo material. My phone kept pushing it in to my news feed, at several points i actually threw my phone away as I was scrolling cos I saw part of a frame. My point being I totally get it, one little thing can ruin yr anticipation, and maybe we shouldnt have to go to lengths to avoid it like in my example, but I also totally get Kanaju trying to grow an audience and sometimes, ya gotta play the game.
