i found your channel a couple of months ago and you've quickly become one of my favourite booktubers. the way you talk so passionately about everything you read - whether it was a gigantic flop, just not quite your thing, or the pinnacle of literature - whips me into a frenzy! i find myself hanging onto every word you say about every book, even if it's something i wouldn't have normally found interesting. your love for literature is so infectious and so refreshing, and i just wanted to thank you for continuously reminding me of my own affection for reading. i hope you have a great new year!

Omg yes! It feels like I have to search so hard to find people with similar taste whose reviews consist of more than reading the sales pitch, saying "there's commentary on xyz", and then telling you whether or not they liked the main character 😭

I just found your channel in 2024, and I'm so happy I did because you are so refreshing in your honest opinions and you also bring attention to books that are different than everyone else on booktube. I get tired of seeing people talk about the SAME books all year ( James, by Percival Everett, for example. ), books that win all the prizes, etc. Not to disparage those books because I'm sure they're great, but it gets old. This year, I'm doing a self-imposed buying ban and endeavoring to read only books that I already own OR library books. Happy New Year, thanks again for the quality authentic content!

omg a 2 hour long 2024 reads wrap up!! you are a saint. I read 125 books so far this year and almost half of them were library reads. I love the library! I can't wait to pick up some of these!! Would love to hear your thoughts on Alison Rumfitt's works, I've been having a very interesting time with her books (first Brainwyrms and currently working on Tell Me I'm Worthless), and I'd love to hear someone with more of a literature background talk about them! So far, I get the sense that her works are pretty on the nose in their themes and messages (as well as extremely nasty), but I also think there's a lot there to discuss

the thing is that Crying in H Mart isn't so much about her mom dying rather than her heritage (because of for exemple the emphasis put on korean food) ? When I read it the fact that her only link that she had to her korean culture i.e her mom was fading in front her was what struck me. I get what you're saying but I think her lack of "originality" in her treatment of illness was not a deal breaker to me because of that angle. Hope you have a lovely year ! ◡̈

frankie i just read this thing between us on your recommendation and i think i’m obsessed with it but i feel like i need to sit with it for a while before i fully understand it. i think “the thing” between us is not just one thing but sort of everything that keeps us apart from community. i think that’s what i’m taking away from it. i feel like the teeth stuff is very connected to thiago’s disconnect with the spanish language, and the skin thing is probably a disconnect with community in terms of race and ethnicity. the gentrification thing is pretty obvious like forcibly removing community. the alexa thing shows how we’re all “connected” but it’s a superficial connection… let’s sit at a banquet and have a meal together but it’s all slightly wrong. let’s tell stories and jokes but they’re all slightly wrong. let’s get a pet and find connection that way but it’s slightly wrong. let’s find connection through literature but no the books are all slightly wrong too. we’re desperate for human connection but there’s this THING between us and we can’t actually deeply connect. there’s a wall up between us but IT COULD BE A DOOR! go talk to your neighbors! be in community with other people! that’s what i’m talking away from it idk, grief could bring us together or it could totally isolate us… i need another person to talk to about this book because i feel like the only way to engage with this book is to have other people share what they took away from it too. i think this might be a perfect book because it’s giving me so much to think about but i think i need to reread it and pay very close attention to everything about it. i realize that these are the ramblings of a lunatic but i read this book on a plane and it was a long travel day and i can’t stop thinking about it anyways thanks for the recommendation

Whoa....I got a bunch of reading ideas from this video, thanks so much, Frankie! "Everyone dies. You're not special. If you write about death, you have something unique to say." No! Actually, you don’t. What an odd thing to say. The book is popular because it is accessible. Sure. But primarily, it has such a large audience because people actually die... and the people left behind can relate to Zauner's experience. It’s about demystifying death and the grieving process that follows. I don’t know man. That sentence, analysis, and opinion were just icky....
@frankiesshelf20 сағат бұрын
it’s actually not icky to not like a book that you liked!! that’s okay actually ! we can have different opinions on media you don’t need to make it a reflection on my character or something lol
@edy895320 сағат бұрын
@@frankiesshelf It's not the fact that you didn't like the book. Fair enough. It's not my favorite book either. It's the way you talked about death in general and writing about death that I find questionable (icky). After all, we're talking about real people. It's just feedback from my side on something you said, and it's not directed at your character or person!
