One thing I like about videos like this, especially when the person isn't obsessive or evangelical about their methods, is that it shows how we all do some things the same and some things different depending on our animals. I switched from substrate to tile a while back and would never go back, but there are a lot of good arguments for both. But then when it comes to things like lights, overall cage design and supplements, almost all beardie owners recommend the same. It's a good frame of reference for new owners as to what is a cardinal rule and what is subjective.
@ellesreptiles Жыл бұрын
Thank you! 💜 I always try to make it clear that this is just what I do, and mention other options. I don't think there is always necessarily a "right" way to do something. We're all just doing our best for our animals' wellbeings.
@RyanLeCocq Жыл бұрын
@@ellesreptiles I've honestly never seen a sad beardie owned by an exotic enthusiast. That's one reason I like that attitude. People get all critical of each other, yet all their beardie's look fat and spoiled like Jabba the Hutt. They're FINE. As long as the lights, food and enclosure are right, it's just about understanding your animal's taste and making them happy 😃

That's funny, I want to say zsasz did a couple times when she was a tiny baby, but that's about it. Other than that, she completely avoided it - she wouldn't even use hers as a bathroom, like I've seen some do. Hers just took up room 😅

Hi, Elle, I'm glad that you are up and making videos. Just remember to take your time no need to rush. I just got my 3-month-old bearded dragon named Rhaegal, and he's on the driftwood basking away. I got an exo terra sand carpet as a substrate. The group on Facebook just frowns upon the substrate of choice. I know it's better than the reptile carpet at least it will file his nails. What do you think?
@ellesreptiles Жыл бұрын
Thank you! 💜 Sand carpet is better than regular carpet, since it doesn't snag tonails, but it isn't the best choice, as it can harbor bacteria. Especially if your bearded uses the bathroom on it - there's no real way to clean it thoroughly. If you keep it changed out, it can be fine, but that can get very costly and time consuming
@plantingwithnat Жыл бұрын
@@ellesreptiles Thank you for your feedback 😁. Do you think at 3 months old doing loose substrate would be ok?
@sinepanigavlana10 ай бұрын
Hey, love your videos, helped me a lot but at 07:32 Im sure its not healthy to give your dragon tap water expecialy with chlore. This drops wont put the chlore out, just creates a different chemical(forgot the name) + in tap water there are a lot of bad chemicals from us humans from pharmacy stuff. I always use natural spring water from water bottles I drink myself. Besides that, your videos are awesome, thanks👍

I have a hard time getting isopods locally at times. Are darkling beetles a good source mixed with springtails or just by themselves for cleanup crew for most tropical and dry enclosures? Springtails remind me of mites inside enclosure and i dont like to see them. Lol. Thanks.

Hi Elle, new to your channel but so glad to see you’re doing well 🙏🏾 I just have a quick question…. So we get our 2 baby beardies Tuesday and the terrarium we ordered has a light fixture but the bulb says “uvb/uva reptile light, heating lamp” is this ok for now? Being that it says for bearded dragons 😳
@ellesreptiles Жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel! 😊 You should have two different lights, a heating bulb, and a linear UVA/UVB bulb (one that spans most, if not all, of the length of the tank). For the UVA/UVB bulb, Reptisun and Arcadia are two really good brands. I think what you're talking about is probably a mercury vapor bulb, which some people use without issue, but the problem is they can be very finicky and they don't provide UV across the entirety of the tank.
@dominiquewest5359 Жыл бұрын

Is it normal for my beardie to only want green veggies?? He’s only eating the greens now, not the carrots or yellow squash I’ve been giving him.
@Toolie214 Жыл бұрын
I just adopted a 5month old bearded, I’ve had him for a month now. He didn’t come with uvb lights so I’m hoping this isn’t something serious but occasionally I’ll walk past and it seems as if he’s looking at me and moving side to side weirdly. Should I be worried?
