a great size-inclusive pattern I'd recommend is Lydia Morrow's Caveat Crop! It's the first sweater I've made that i actually love, and it's a super easy pattern to follow for a top-down/raglan pattern!

as a crocheter who just learned how to knit, I would absolutely recommend learning the continental method instead of traditional knitting where you wrap the yarn around the needle! it was way easier to wrap my head around holding the yarn in my left hand like I do in crochet and helped me get faster quicker, which helped me not be as frustrated!

love this video! if you're wanting to make a patchwork sweater, you could totally avoid a lot of the sewing process by crocheting each panel in one go! so front, back, and each sleeve, just by switching colours. you could even start with the bottom ribbing, join it together into a circle, and then rotate it slightly and just start crocheting the entire sweater by switching colours every couple stitches/rows to achieve the same look

If you want to do a patchwork square sweater, but don't want to sew the squares together, you can just join them as you crochet. You basically make a column of squares and then like do the chain for the base of the square on a side, to add another column and crochet up, attaching it as you go ( like instead of doing chain at the end of the row, you go through the stitches of the square you've made already). It's difficult to explain so I hope you got the idea of it at least 😂😂 but I found it's quicker to make patchwork sweaters this way.

When you learn to knit after crocheting for a while, it can be easier to learn to knit continental, because it's similar in the way you hold the yarn :) also just found your channel today and binged all your crochet content! I'm excited to see more

I tried learning knitting long before I learned crocheting and it made no sense but I just learned to knit today and it was so easy! I made a scarf and I will try matching hat soon. I learned continental because I am from mainland Europe so it is just what we do here but I totally understand the point about continental being better for crocheters.

i learned how to knit before i learned to crochet, and i used to be able to do it, but now whenever i try i fail miserably D: the stitches always fall off my needle and i cannot keep the tension right for the life of me. all the stitches are either slightly different sizes, or i struggle poking the needle into the stitch in the first place because the stitches are so tight. any tips??

Plus sized knitter and crocheter here! Lovely video. A tip for picking up knitting: as a crocheter, the continental way of holding your yarn while knitting might feel more natural to you than the English style. Play around a bit and knit a couple swatches and see what style works best for you. Nimble Needles here on KZbin has lots of helpful knitting tutorials in continental style. Wishing you best of luck on your knitting journey! xx

Large-chested gal here! I just made the Houndstooth Vest by CherilynCrochet and it's PERFECT! The pattern was a bit funky at first cuz there's no size chart, you just have measure yourself and use their conversion to get your sizing but it actually turned out really easy. I did a chain of 80 instead of 70 and it turned into the greatest layering piece without it being too tight. You can easily adjust the length of it too for a longer or more cropped look which I always appreciate. Excited to see what you make this fall! :)

for the patchwork stuff, I strongly recommend learning how to carry the yarn to crochet them line by line in the round or however you like, or if you want something like granny square patchwork, look at the join as you go method. you really don't need to sew pieces together at all, even just slipstitching two pieces together can work fine (but you'll have to be careful with tension so you don't make the seams tight and short)
@icannotbeseen Жыл бұрын
oh by the way, when it comes to knitting in the round - I found a great way to get into that is to take something like a crochet sweater and instead of doing crochet ribbing, you pick up stitches on a circular needle and then go around to get confident with rounds. you can unravel that easily without running the rest of the sweater so you can focus on learning one thing at a time. I did that a month ago and now I'm knitting sweaters and leg warmers. knitting is great! and you already have the bonus of knowing how to maintain yarn tension (at least for continental knitting it translates over 1:1) which is reeeeally helpful for even stitches. protip: I recommend getting bamboo needles for your first attempt, they are less slippery so you aren't going to get frustrated dropping stitches all the time. with the right tension you won't have problems with metal needles but it's just a bit easier
@icannotbeseen Жыл бұрын
and the last thing, regarding size: I don't work with patterns at all, I hate having to have something to read that I need to have on me at all times to work on the project. Instead, learn how things are done and then use them for what you want. say you learn how a raglan sweater works and know how to do even inceases. you can now make a sweater in your desired length and looseness (just try it on as you go), vary the stitches/colors to make it interesting, decide if you want bell sleeves or trumpets or fitted ones, just increase/decrease till it looks good. no messing with gauges, no counting stitches, no having to use either the same yarn or having to do math or whatever to make your yarn fit. just vibes till it fits you how you want. I usually start the thing and when I don't know how to do what I want (say I want to make a raglan knit sweater and don't know how to do the armholes properly because it's not the same as in crochet), I'll open some random youtube tutorial for that thing, look at what they do, do it, then continue as normal. suddenly size inclusivity becomes entirely irrelevant because you don't have to rely on a pattern maker including you.
@jazbeth Жыл бұрын
this is such good advice thank you so much!! i’ve started continental knitting and i think i’m going much faster than with traditional, i also agree on not relying on patterns as this is was i do most of the time unless i’m doing something super specific!! thanks again for the advice!!

If you haven't tried out knitting continental style, try it out! I could not figure out knitting because of the way english style knitters hold their yarn opposite of what I was used to from crocheting, and then when i tried continental everything bacame so much easier because I could hold the yarn like how I was used to! :)
