David Copperfield is actually my favorite novel. One of the things I love about it is its pure sentimentality, a wonderance of why the bliss of our deepest youth can't just stay uncorrupted by troubles. I'd suggest just reading as if it were a teary-eyed telling of story to a friend or to a love, it really makes the beauty of it come alive.

I read David Copperfield few years ago and really enjoyed it. I dont know how to say this without spoilers but due to the end David really suprised me, his thoughts (about life and his relathionships with women) were actually very relatable and people still to this day go through the same stuff. So that part definetly stood up for me.

With CITR, make sure to not confuse the character with the novel as a whole. People who dislike it seem to go on about how much they hate the character - that means that Salinger captured the character that vividly. His other fiction is from the point of view of different characters and has a completely different flavor.

What also must not be overlooked is that Salinger fought in WW2 and was present at the landing at Utah Beach during D-Day. I feel it does give him leeway to write in whatever voice and whatever unlikable character he wants.

Wow. I’m really thrilled that you’ll be reading ‘Hour of the Star’ by Clarice Lispector. Frankly, I’m thrilled to hear what you’ll have to say about this one. I read ‘Hour of the Star’ in 2014. I was 24 and it was my very first Lispector. I wept and I laughed and I wept. I was transported to very depths of my soul. Lispector is one for all ages and that’s what I love most about her. She’s so otherworldly and earthbound at the same time. Simply magical! Have fun! 🤍🤍🤍

Hi Emma! I've been such a big fan of your content for a while now, but recently found myself feeling down or disappointed in myself while watching bookish content and seeing how much more everyone else seemed to be able to read than I could. Because of that, I've been avoiding booktube videos for a while (including yours :/) to help save some shred of my confidence. However, I decided today that I missed watching your videos and clicked on this one, and I'm so glad that I did! A reason I've always loved your videos is your blatant honesty and very realistic (yet casual!) way of breaking down complex books. The casual and chatty vibe of this video (and all of your tbr vids) is exactly what I needed to remind myself that reading doesn't have to be some huge, scary task. As someone who loves reading, but struggles to focus and read books quickly, it's nice to be reminded that reading is supposed to be fun and not a competition. Even though you will definitely always be able to read way more books than I can (lol), your casual-yet-confident approach to reading inspires me to have that same confidence, too!

With David Copperfield what I loved about it most was the atmosphere of Found Family that the whole book has throughout (in my opinion) especially with David’s Aunt, Mr Dick and the Peggottys. I did find Dora insufferable however (although I’m hoping that was Dickens’ intention)

00:00 I haven't done a Tbr video in a long time, but I feel it this month. So I picked out many books I hope to read and finish in April. 01:25 I have been struggling with David Copperfield for a really long time. The writing style has changed since Zombie and Son, and I'm reading Dickens chronologically, so I know what will happen. 02:30 David Copperfield narrates his life, growing up and trying to find a home. He is mistreated by many people, and I honestly don't care about any of them except for maybe his aunt and Steerforth Steer Fourth is growing on me. 03:31 If there's one thing you love about David Carverfield, please leave it below so I can see what the people who enjoy it are witnessing. 03:54 I need to start reading Catcher in the Rye, which is by Jamie Salinger. It's about an angry young teenager, and our live show for this one will be at the end of April, so I better get my butt started on this one. 04:54 Keen, the sponsor of today's video, let me do my first-ever Tarot card reading, and it made me consider what I'm doing with nature in my home and I need to get back to cultivating character in my own home. 05:48 You can try your first 10 minutes for only 1.99 on King, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new. 06:55 Sanraco writes that I wouldn't say I like it, but the minute I picked it up, I found it very hard to put down. It's about this epidemic of white blindness and how the people in power react to it. 07:57 The book deals with a lot, and I'm really into it. I will give it four stars, and I'm so happy that I picked this one up this month and will be able to use it for my thesis. 09:03 Murakami's dance dance dance might be my new favorite Murakami book. You can read it out of order. 09:18 A guy who is passive and lets things happen to him starts to have dreams about a hotel called The Dolphin Hotel. However, the hotel has changed, and he finds out that it's a whole completely different place. 10:06 This book is about Advanced capitalism and a 34-year-old guy reminiscing about the late 60s and 70s and now dealing with this modernist, Ultra boosted, very Sleek Chrome machine learning. 11:08 I will read The Res Sisters by Thompson Highway first and then Clarisse Specter's Hour of the Star. Both are about seven women from a reserve attempting to beat the odds by winning at bingo. 12:02 Macabrea Loves Movies, Coca-cola, and her philandering rat of a boyfriend, but she is ugly, underfed, sickly, and unloved. Someone is telling her story, and Clarice Le Specter is absolutely stunning. 12:34 Hour of the Star is just over here, crushing on the Colors Inspector, and Corridors Passages of Modernity by Roger Lockhurst will be for my thesis. It's just gonna be about hallways and what function they have. 13:23 I will likely read Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldry, a high-no, low-stakes fantasy. It sounds like exactly what I want, a book about an ogre who opens a coffee shop in a fantasy land. 14:45 The second book I have in on audio is so happy for You by Forget who this is, and I heard about it from Olivia at Olivia Reads A Latte. I wanted to read this so badly. 15:21 So So Happy for You is about wedding culture and weddings. I'm hoping it will talk about weddings and marriage very veiledly, and I'm desperately craving just fantasy and fantasy romance. 16:23 This is the second book in the Never Night Chronicles, and it's about a girl named Mia who decides to get revenge on the whole system after the government destroys her entire family. So she takes herself off to the Red Church, an Assassins school. 17:38 I love how this is written, I don't think it's narrated by Mia, and I love the footnotes. I'm slightly obsessed with it, so I might pick up God's grave this month. I opened my Kindle and realized I was in the middle of a book I had forgotten about. I like it and am in the most significant reading mood ever.

I’ve started Catcher in the Rye and the line about David Cooperfield felt like a personal attack 😂 I’m so sad you’re not loving Copperfield but I totally get it. I just finished The Three Body Problem after weeks of waiting for it in Libby. I first heard about it from you and man was it good!

Yep, they planned on it for their Game of Tomes bookclub they are both co-hosting. So you'll see 12 books throughout the year they are both reading at the same time 🙂

I'm currently reading Tyranny of Faith by Richard Swan slowly but, its an interesting book. The first one blew me away and was very thought provoking. Hence why, I'm reading the sequel currently.
