Thanks for the monthly recap, Emma. ⭐ It is always fun to hear about the films you saw. I'm very aware about the trick to "Anguish" and that does make it a very unique film. So glad that you like "Bonnie & Clyde". That's one of my favorite crime films and set in that classic 1930's America. I spent a good portion of January watching some of my favorite classics, so that's why they made my top-rated films this month: THE THIRD MAN (1949) - score 9/10. HARVEY (1950) - score 10/10. The James Stewart classic is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. THE ODESSA FILE (1974) - score 7/10. A solid political thriller with Jon Voight and Maximillian Schell. THE HOUSE ON GREENAPPLE ROAD (1970) - score 8/10. A missing wife, a blood-stained kitchen, and a determined detective. A TV movie that pushed the envelope. WOLF MAN (2025) - score 6/10. SHARKSPLOTATION (2023) - score 8/10. A Shudder documentary covering shark movies from "Jaws" to "Sharknado". Very informative and a lot of fun. ⭐

As a 76 year old retiree, a lot of the stuff you watched last month isn't for me, but that's fine. I don't know if you like dark, historical fantasy, but if you do.... I recommend 'Gogol' an 8 episode mini-series on Prime. It's Russian and the main character is the Russian writer, Nikolai Gogol, who accompanies a famous detective to a small Russian village in 1829, where three young women have been killed by a strange, fantastic creature. The first scene shows the death of one of the victims. It has witches, vampires, secret cults, the works. It looks gorgeous, the acting is top notch, and has some very graphic scenes, so be warned.

It's too bad Y2K didn't get better reviews, I was kind of curious about it. Even being as sick as I am of Hollywood trying to cram nostalgia down our throats, I guess it would be kinda fun to revisit that time period (I was 17 in 1999) and laugh at some of the absurdities.

Actually The Traitors is originally a Dutch show from 2021 called De Verraders. I only know this because after catching up on all the American seasons on Peacock, i immediately started watching all the other iterations that i possibly could including AU and NZ. Yes, it is addictive AF. And I'm not a reality show person at all! So i don't even know most of these people. I only knew Bob the Drag Queen from his being a judge on Dragula, season 4, i think. It's the kind of thing that's been a great distraction from the firehose of real life horrors in the world today. I mean, i need something. It's quite the doomy times. ☹️

She has a list of them on her Letterboxd, here is the description she has on the list: “movies that rely on heavy character storytelling and dialogue to show a raw slice of life. No structured tent poles, no CGI or over stylisation, usually simple sets with a focus on lower class life. A hard hitting look into a different walk of life. I call these films Honey films because of the two biggest examples of this style - American Honey and Honey Boy.”
