aoe 3 definitive edition has just released on steam making it the latest real time strategy game to be released. Now what does the spiffing brit do with brand new rts games well he finds exploits in their perfectly balanced game design however this time EVERYTHING IS BROKEN! As the AI does not even function when given the challenge of moving across water. Age of empires has always been at the forefront of AI design in strategy games however for some reason Age Of Empires 3: Definitive Edition a 2020 strategy game has been released with AI reminiscent of an early 2000s strategy game. So naturally we will be seeing if Age Of Empires 3: Definitive Edition Is A Perfectly Balanced Game Without exploits or if perhaps the fact EVERYTHING is broken might upset the perfect game balance necessary in any top strategy game of 2020. I really hope that ahead of age of empires 4 we can get a bit of a magical rework of the AI to get a good challenge out of it on all the map types!

For clarity: the AI on the Ceylon map was never programmed to expand onto the middle island and play the map properly, even in the original. Ceylon is functionally a multiplayer-only map.

Best exploit I found on this game: pick the Dutch, use your envoy to find the AI base ASAP, send the three envoys shipment, use your four envoys to literally punch the AI villagers to death. The AI doesn't know how to respond and keeps trying to garrison while trying to balance resource collection. The result: the AI never even reaches the second age.

As an avid Sea map player for Aoe 3, this pains me to see how slow his navy develops. At least he won!
