Just hearing the part about maggie and adjusting to pet life. My first greyhound was from the Texas blood bank that closed down, and when I adopted him he wanted nothing to do with me. It took nearly a year to get him to figure out his new life and he finally decided to spend time outside of my bedroom away from me, and even started snuggling with me a while after that. He became a cuddle monster after that. Once they figure out their people, they figure out their new life and open way up. Benson is an old man now at 13 years old and loves meeting people and going places. Not all of them fully come out of their shell. I’ve met a few at events that were still super shy.

I remember Jenna saying something similar about Bunny. She was a blood donor dog as well.

@@whyaddnamehere Similar but very different situations. The blood bank in Texas was practically abandoned and the dogs were very poorly treated, which resulted in shutting down entirely. The situation is infuriating. over 150 dogs had to be rescued from there. While the California blood bank did eventually close, from what I understand, the dogs were well cared for. Regardless of what you might feel about dog blood banks and dog blood donors, the 2 places were not the same. I discourage looking into the Texas blood bank situation. It's heartbreaking.

I completely sympathize with you about Maggie. We foster failed a great dane and he was just bones when we got him. He came from a hoarding situation at a boarding facility. I used to work at a daycare and boarding facility so I understood alot of his triggers compared to the rest of my family. He would cower if you raised a hand or any loud noise. He never was taught how to be a dog and was left to sit and rot for so many years, but all he wanted was love. It's been three years now and he is still learning how to be a dog. It is so heartbreaking to think why anyone would do such a thing to a loving dog. It makes me very upset and angry that someone thought that it was fine to hit and abuse him. I'm even tearing up slightly now because he is just such a wonderful dog and he has become my soul dog. Maggie will get her time and she will have a wonderful life! Until then, thank you for giving her a home, giving her love and being patient with her. Sending much love!
