That was interesting, I learned a couple cadences there... I use the crack and pause a lot to attract fish. Crack it 3-4 foot off the bottom, then let it drop right back down and pause for 10-15 seconds and repeat. I’ve done well on walleyes, Lakers, perch, speckled trout and crappies with them, they’re good lures once you have the confidence. More fun than spoons:)

Idk if its just new york or what but i jig a jigging rap super aggressive to start when walleye fishing and slow down if i need to but 9/10 times aggressive just works. I give 8”-1 foot jigs about 5 times a second just banging the bait a few feet off bottom and the second you see a fish on the flasher i keep jigging maybe even faster and start working the fish up about a foot a second. Ive had dozens of walleye come up from 20-30 feet and hit the bait 3-10 feet below the hole. Its quiet a show when you see your leader come up and look down the hole and see that big eye flying up right behind it

I've been ice fishing with them lures for at least 5 years now, and I have very good success with them, I get the larger perch with the green one , I've even got 2 King salmon threw the ice fishing the harbor in Racine , Wi. Great lures. Fish it like you said and have fun.

Excellent video and I agree with you 100% although I very seldom use bait with JR's, maybe I'll give it a try again. Also totally agree with you on size but I have had times where walleye were showing lots of interest but not committing and when I switched to a #9 they smashed it. I'm assuming at these times they were probably feeding on large baitfish and the #9 matched the hatch. I also usually crimp the barbs on my JR's because they can otherwise be very hard to get out when the fish gets the whole hook in its mouth. I lose a few fish this way but I release most of the fish I catch.

I got into them good last weekend with the smallest jigging rap and landed a 6.5lb walleye and perch up to 1 1/2 lbs. By the end of the day I was taking the trebel hook off of jigging raps so I could unhook them faster.

i already bought a ton of those baits. I think i possibly bought every color they sell in late fall cause i know how well they work and i also know how well they sell finding them becomes difficult and with this covid thing fishing has become the most popular out door activity it has ever been. This bait has also became better than real bait for me at times definitely a go to bait if your real bait isnt working good enough.

the trick to red lake walleyes is set lines. You'll have much more success with a plain hook and a minnow under a bobber

Hey Brett - Depends on inside vs. outside. Inside, as shown, I'm using a St. Croix Rods - Croix Custom Ice (CCI) Search Bait Rod. Outside, I prefer something a bit longer in the CCI Outside Eye rod. Both are medium power rods to absorb the weight and water displacement of the jig rap, and both are a fast action to both provide precise jigging motions, yet offer a bit of moderation to the break so as to keep big fish buttoned up on those hooks. Been using jigging raps for many years catching perch on Lake Simcoe and they are awesome. Usually replace the treble with something stronger then I bait it with a red maggot - the perch love it.....

@@roniler7960 same to you. I ice fish mainly for jumbo perch and tip the treble with little red maggot style grubs and the perch are usually all over it. It catches perch when others don't.... My son fishes with them all year for walleye....

What size hook do you recommend upsizing too when using the #5 for walleye ? I have always struggled when using raps thru the ice. I do great using spoons or rattle baits but just never have done well with jigging raps . Gonna make a effort to refine my technique when using jigging raps this winter .

Use a small size. Dont go big just because you are fishing bigger fish. I personally use the VMC ones, in the second smallest size. The smallest size works great for crappie, a d other small fish, and the second smallest works good for walleye and other bigger fish. Good luck

I bought 2 sizes a size 7 and and a size 5 so i can fish for smaller game with the 5 and when a pike or a bass comes through i can quickly change it up with a larger bait to catch those bigger fish. Having a camera will open even more benefits then a flasher cause u will know the type of species thats looking at your bait.

What rod are you using for the #5? Fishing for Perch and Walleye, I'm looking at the St. Croix Legend Black (24" or 30" Available) or a Mojo Ice rods in Medium Light (Recommended by the St. Croix guy). The St. Croix guy was selling the concept of having the spring bobber available. Not thinking you'd need that for this application, but I suppose I could use the same rod for other stuff as well. Any thought on a good rod?

Yes, these work great for trout both in open water and ice. Size 5 and 7.

What i do tend to see tho with this particular bait is walleye or crappie but honestly that bait doesnt just catch those 2 species. If u are useing this bait with out a camera and just a flasher there is a high chance you are going to lose your bait. Pike love these and with 6lb test fishing for smaller game there is a high chance that line is not going to hold up to teeth cause your drag is not set for those cause your not fishing for those. Get a camera or buy a handfull of these epic baits and expect line breaks.

Tip with minnow tail not head and no need to slow it down that much never had an issue always caught fish. Never used in the summer always used in the winter

I like them, they work well, and they are cheap. My go to for walleye is tingle spoon. Get the smaller size in the sparkly red. It absolutely SLAMS the wall eyes. They love it. Good luck
