How do you choose the right jig for ice fishing? Have you ever stared at an entire wall of panfish jigs wondering where to even begin? I created this video to break down jig styles into manageable pieces of information that will help you narrow your search so you can find the perfect jig for the job at hand. Whether it’s crappies in the basin, bluegills in shallow weeds or perch on a giant flat, this video will help you stock your tackle box with the right stuff to get the job done. Check out any of the links below to compare jig colors, prices, styles etc. Also check out any of the plastics below to see the ones featured in this video.

Great video, watching older videos to ease the ice withdrawals. In the video you mentioned you can't see fish in the weeds. Looks like you have an flx 30 or 28 based on the yellow seal, look up weed mode and low power approach for weeds. Thanks for the entertainment and wisdom.
@calebwistad
@calebwistad 4 ай бұрын
Thanks! When I made this video I was pretty green on that machine but have since learned how to use weed mode and rarely go out of low power mode anymore unless I’m fishing over 35’ of water. The FLX 30 is a heck of a unit once you learn how to use it.

@@calebwistad Thanks for the reply, I really enjoy the videos, it keeps my fishing evolving when I get to see what other people are doing and how they’re advancing the sport. I actually just upgraded to the flx30bb when Thorne Bro’s had it at Rock bottom pricing. Stepped up from the flx-12 and a backup Marcum M1 I had and I agree it’s an amazing piece of tech. I just wish they put buttons instead of all the knob back and forth mode stuff lol.

I'm new to ice fishing and confused. Regarding hook sizing, aren't all anglers, not just ice, used to the number which refers to the hook gap? I thought this was universal for fishing hooks. I believe the most common for ice jigs is 8 thru 14 so is a Clam Sm a 14? 12? Is their Med a 10? Lg an 8?
@calebwistad
@calebwistad Жыл бұрын
The best thing to do is go look at the Clam website. They list every hook size for each of their jigs and for each size of jig. The problem with only going by hook size is that it’s more of a ratio between the jig body and the hook that matters. Therefore, when they make an “XL” jig, it is simply the ratio of hook to body that changes. For instance, an XL drop jig has 3 different hook sizes depending on what weight jig you buy. #12, #10 and #8 for the 1/64 oz, 1/32 oz and 1/16 oz, respectively.

No, but he has a point. I fish a lot and most of the time when fish are hungry they will eat anything you put in front of them. When they’re not hungry they won’t eat anything. My buddies and I hardly ever use the same lures at the same time and we all catch pretty much the same amount. Companies constantly putting out new “best thing since sliced bread” lures are concerned about one thing. The bottom line. No pun intended but it works.

You are really ignorant about tungsten. With a jig head encased in plastic it is no different then a lead jig.
@toddbruhn57
@toddbruhn57 5 ай бұрын
@adventureswithfrodo2721 I assume you missed your elementary science classes. With your reasoning, if I were to encase a 1" piece of foam in plastic it will sink at the same rate as a 1 inch steel ball encased in plastic🤣. Look up the concept and meaning of density.
@calebwistad
@calebwistad 5 ай бұрын
There is only one tungsten jig I talked about in this video that is encased in plastic and that is the Epoxy Drop. I mentioned that the epoxy drop would fall a hair SLOWER than a tungsten jig without the epoxy coating, which is correct due to more water resistance on the same weight of tungsten. Are you suggesting that it would fall exactly at the same rate of a lead jig? Because that would be a complete guess on your part. I would argue that a tungsten jig encased in plastic is very different than a lead jig and I explained why in the video had you been paying attention.
