100%. People who live in NE and WATCHED this mess last year KNOW (1) Firing Mayo and HIRING Vrabel should have happened LAST year and (2) Mayo had NO IDEA what he was doing - which is not surprising since he was a 100% DEI hire with no experience BUT was black. People can cry about that FACT all they want, but it's true. Kraft has an 'advisor' whose ONLY job was 'helping players w/ social justice causes' - and her top client was Mayo. SHE convinced doddering old fool to hire Mayo instead of Vrabel AND give her the bogus title of 'senior assistant to the head coach'. What a joke. First thing Vrabel did after taking the job - fire her, Robyn Glazer

Why? A mans got to know his own limitations. What he SHOULD have pushed for was being PROMOTED from a coaching ILBs to DC or some higher positional job - NOT head coach. You don't take the guy making the fries at McDonalds and promote him to CEO of the entire company. HE knew he was TOTALLY unqualified but took the job anyway. Like Kraft, they wrongly assumed Mayo couldn't possibly be WORSE than BB's last year in NE, and they were totally wrong - he and the team was WAY worse.

@mikegiga826511 күн бұрын
@jaredchampagne2752 i agree he did himself no favors. But you gitta agree that if you hire a coach, even a tenured coach may need more than a season on a rebuild team. Which we have been lately. Kraft has every right to admit he made a bad choice & corrected it immediately despite the optics & potential backlash from agitators. It’s unfair in SOME instances. Not all of them. Gerard Mayo wasn't kicked to the curb because of the Win/Loss record, it was for everything else he wasn't doing right. Mayo had a lot of great ideas...without knowledge of how to establish and realize them. He handled the press horribly, and the team actually got worst as the season advanced. The locker room turned highly toxic. He regularly contradicted himself with what he said verses what he did. He failed at everything that entails being a HC. Sorry but this was NOT premature. It might sound like I hate or blame Mayo. I definitely do not! I blame the Krafts. Gerard was a great player who played incredibly smart. He might 1 day grow into an amazing HC...1 day. He was a coach for only 5yrs. In that time he never steped out from behind Belichick (who micro-managed everthing). Gerard Mayo was thrusted into being a HC at least 3-4yrs prematurely. He wasn't only pushed into becoming a HC but he was tied to a massive rebuild. He wasn't given an experienced staff to help him, from the front office to his coordinators...they all (well almost all) lacked experience at THEIR coaching job, nevermindhaving experienceto help Mayo. The fault falls DIRECTLY at the feet of the KRAFT family. They hampered their own team's success for warm fuzzy feelings on a trip to Israel. Not to mention the fact that they also have hurt Gerard Mayo's coaching career. The coaching regime under Mayo was a bad decision by the Krafts and any NE fan should be happy it's over. (Well wishes for Mayo and his family in all that life brings them.)

There was never any sense he was the one at the wheel making changes, making decisions. No sense of what kind of defense does he want, what kind of offense. As a Pats fan, I don't think Mayo was unfairly fired. I think he was unfairly hired. He wasn't ready to make that leap to head coach yet. Maybe someday he will be, but not yet. He was put in a really bad situation due to Kraft's pride. He made a commitment he shouldn't have, and things didn't work out how he planned. When he committed to Mayo as the next head coach, I think he invasioned Belichick sticking around until he was ready to retire. Instead Kraft jumped the gun, fired Belichick, and stuck Mayo in before he was ready without even considering another option. As far as the Vrabel hire, I'm psyched. I love it. I'm not expecting a Super Bowl run next year or anything, but a playoff appearance is certainly not out of the question. Especially with a high draft pick and a ton of money in free agency. We struck out last year because we didn't have any draw. It was a bad team, a rookie QB, a rookie head coach, and it's in Massachusetts. That's a lot of negatives for free agents with really no upside. You can only sell guys with the pretty leaves so much. And you can't just overpay mediocre players to overcome that either. That screws you in the long run. But now, you have a proven head coach that players want to play for, Maye seems like a superstar in the making, arguably the best corner in the NFL in Christian Gonzalez, and enough money to pay whoever you want. There's a draw now. If this off-season goes perfectly, there's no reason the Pats can't compete with Buffalo for the AFC East. That's a big ask, and a lot would have to go right, but it's definitely not out of the question. To be clear, I'm not expecting that. But I do expect some pretty big improvements. At least 7 wins this season.
@thebaddestlarry942411 күн бұрын
If we get some solid offensive lineman, and 1 or 2 good weapons for Maye, offense will be in great shape. Defense is a few weapons away from being great as well. I don't expect greatness next year, but on the way to it.

I also think Devonta Smith is incredibly underrated and he could easily be our WR #1.

As a Pats fan, I love having Vrabel as our HC. I feel Mayo was done dirty, but I wasn't thrilled when he was hired either. I felt his fit was DC for us. He did a decent job in that role. I'd love for AJ to come over, but I doubt he'd come over when he has both money and potential superbowl wins in Philly. I'm hoping in Higgins. I think with a legit #1, some of the other guys like Douglas will shine better. The most important thing for the Pats this off-season, though, is OLine! Keep Maye upright as he continues to develop. Should be an interesting off-season for my team this year, and there is legitimate optimism for the near future.

We had crazy cap space before. There’s not many guys that will be left around next season from that year. Hunter Henry has been the ok est addition from that. You can bring in a bunch of big dollar contracts. But if those dudes don’t gel then it’s another season for Drake to end up in Jacksonville at the end of his rookie contract

Pats fan here… I love Vrabel he seems to be everything we’re lacking in the locker room.. he has the potential to show what he can truly do with a potentially elite Qb.. all the $ and Pics. AFC title game with TANNEHILL is not talked about enough. I don’t think Mayo has what it takes sadly. He seems to lack the intangibles it takes to lead & inspire a new identity. We are lost as a team and need that Figure to get back into the Patriot groove. Mayo can be a great coach someday just needs a bit more experience and that leader backbone.. I like vrabes and can’t wait to see what he does and who he gets as Coordinators.. I’d love Leftwitch & Saleh

Here's what I think happened. At the time, ownership wanted Mayo to be the next coach when it was promised to him. They changed their mind when it came time to hire Mayo, so they hired him knowing he would be fired after his first season.

Not much a Pat's fan, but this is a great move for them. Vrabel has shown he's a pretty successful coach winning w/ less than great QB play. (Not everyone can get a great QB). Pats do have a QB w/ promise. Now they need better players to make it work. They have the cap space & high draft picks. Should be a good draft for them. Don't screw that up. Build a winning team and Vrabel will make it happen.

As a Pats fan, i still feel bad for Mayo being a sacrificial lamb, but Vrabel was the better option and the only reason we didn't grab him last year was due to the contract Kraft already had with Jerod. Now we have the capspace to pick up Higgins or Godwin, maybe trade for Metcalf, A.J. or Diva Deebo as a utility piece lile he was for SF last year. Id even swing an attempted trade for Max Crosby to boost our pass rush. Then we go for pieces in the draft like some LBs, a Safety and O-line, and it could be at least a 6-7 win season next year being optimistic

As a Patriots fan I'm kind of excited to see if we can get Joe Milton into the mix somehow. Call me a victim of recency bias, but that kid is no joke. Obviously Drake is the QB, but maybe sliding Milton in on quite a few specialty plays might be electric.

The best ending for the pats would be Aaron Rodger’s returning and Garrett Wilson getting so pissed off he asks to be traded to the Pats of course.

10:14 for some reason when you talk about the Tennessee titans in 2020 you say they “lost” to the ravens in the wildcard game, but the score you showed was a score where the titans won? Maybe I misunderstood what game you were talking about but I swore the score was like 20-13 ravens and not 28-12 for the titans won

I am pumped about Vrabel. I was surprised how quickly they let Mayo go but I wasn’t a fan of him from the beginning tho. Lot of talk about Drake Maye. I think Joe Milton could be really impressive to watch to tho.

As a pats fan I'm pissed we lost the number 1 pick. However I love the vrabel hire. Tho mayo was kinda unfairly fired. Ultimately I think they saw a better option and believed vrabel was a better option for the job. especially in press conferences and team strategy.

Could Vrabl do a better job than Belichick right now? The problem with the patriots is they suffered QB issues when Brady left which was never sorted out before they sacked Bill. Now I’m sure Bill was partly responsible for their QB issues but he voiced frustration with the lack of willingness to spend on certain parts of the offence which needed work. Outside of QB issues the Patriots had a poor o-line.
