Follow and find my true happiness which is creating content, helping others and finding a way to combine it all - knowing that there are no 'major obstacles' to worry about such as the mortgage. And ultimately 'giving' is my driving force - so do that to the max, in whatever capacity I can.

Same. If one really enjoys the personality of a content creator (or anyone, actually) they would watch/ read / listen to any format. For example, the best thing I watched this fall is @KaraandNate biking across America 6-part series 4 hours long 😂. A long-time huge fan, so I watch everything. Same with Ali. It's like talking (in our case listening) to a friend for hours. Best thing!

I second this! This video is different because it feels like listening to a friend and not necessarily learning from a teacher. A different way of connection, more personal. And also for me it's interesting to hear how people think when they are on a higher level when basic financial needs are met. Still learning a lot about life from casual talking videos like this.

I was going to say the same actually. It’s refreshing. When I heard Ali say in a Huel ad that he uses Huel because he doesn’t have time to make a healthy meal I was like “Whaaat??! All this productivity and you don’t have time to make a healthy meal?.” 🤯 With this video Ali you’ve redeemed yourself. The internet needs more of your new way of thinking 😊🎉

Bravo, sir. True wealth is closing the gap between what you want and what you have. Most people don't realize that cuts both ways. It's not just about having all the stuff you want, but it's also about not having stuff you realize you don't want. Enjoy the travels!

Very true, Mark. I'm watching your "What nobody tells you about getting rich" video next. In my life I've been dirt poor as a graduate student and comfortably middle class, and I can honestly say there are times when I miss my dirt poor days. Adjusting to new money means noting how our expectations and habits change too, and remembering to prioritize what is most important to us.

My summary: Basically being a god (polytheist), has the wisdom, and understanding of everything, then this reasoning mind is satisfied. Mind craving (problem solving what other people surfers, an emotion connection/relation with other people's pain, understanding, wisdom sharing). Another from of dopamine. (you don't really have a control of anything, you gonna die anyways, time concerned Limited amount of feel good thing you can do in a time, anything can happened at any moment nor anyone has that control, that is it self is ****not feel good thing**** )

Yes!!!! 100% this! The first thing anyone should when they get money is ask themselves what can I get rid of? (Debt, mortgage, job you hate, etc) what do I NEED to immediately improve my quality of life? How do I protect my future (property, pensions, insurance, etc? Then, what fun things do I want? The problem is a lot of people skip the first 3 steps and go straight to the fun stuff!

I honestly don’t watch your channel all that often lately. I’ve been really burnt out so I have strayed away from a lot of productivity stuff. But I saw your thumbnail and title and felt inclined to watch. I am so glad that I did! The things that you said about the kind of life you want to live and the authenticity is exactly how I’ve been feeling about life. It’s so wonderful to hear your perspectives, especially about finding happiness in the journey because that’s really what it’s all about. Thank you ❤

I love how raw and unscripted this was. An accumulation of all your hard work, knowledge, and wisdom and being vulnerable out there. No flashy editing, no overly-structured (though very appreciated in other videos), no biases (sponsorships). The constant life questions he gets to himself, though he doesn’t have the true answers, he, through experiences, comes up with his own conclusions. Best video thus far.

It feels good to see you reconnect with yourself again. As a longtime viewer, I've always seen your thirst and ambition for money and success as inspiring, but also somehow self imprisoning. Nobody has all the answers figured out. But I've felt your hyper focus on productivity and output ever since you went full-time with KZbin change your overall energy and demeanor. Somehow in this video, I'm seeing the flicker of light in your eyes again of a man who is realizing what's really important. Of someone who wants to be genuine and is in touch with his mortality and the mortality of those around him. This has ironically been my favorite video of yours in years for this reason. I can tell you are beginning to recognize the ways you tether your identity and ego to the things you've achieved, and are in the process of letting that go in favor of the things that actually matter. Would you still love Ali Abdaal even if he never went to med school, had a big KZbin channel, or any of the other things? I sure hope so: because we would still love that person, too. Best of luck to you on this journey, and to everyone paddling along in life.

So much value in this video - and I relate to many of the points you make. KZbin is an amazing platform, but as soon as it turns into a 'job' where you have to work all hours to create new videos, it means you are not actually living on your own terms. My mentality is that I didn't leave a 9 to 5 in order to replace it with a 9 to 5 KZbin channel. As you say, KZbin is amazing when you can do it PART TIME - and so with my channel, courses and business, I've set them up so that they can function without me running them 24/7. Sure I'd be making a lot more money if I posted once per week, but posting once per month has allowed me to live life on my terms, travel the world (like yourself I travel around 9 months of the year) and appreciate the world we live in. As you say, its okay to leave money on the table; you can always make more money but you can't get back your time. For me, I like to spend my time travelling, meeting people and exploring the world. Thats worth much more than extra $$$ per year. Really glad to see that you are on a similar wavelength and excited to see where your travels take you :)

I, of course, have a need for sustainability in my life, and goals and needs, but your words and practical approach to where we are headed and the one life we've got has inspired me to allow myself the tools I need to make it happen, but also to let go of the things I accumulate that drag me down mentally. Deeply inspired for a strong 2024. Thanks a lot, Ali.

"Many people forget that the goal is not money, but to spend your day as you wish." Very genuine video. Watched from start to finish and I must say, I highly appreciate you and your authenticity. It's funny because as out of the ordinary as this video seems, this zoom out and refocus is so relatable and recognizable from every creator, yet no one sees the value in addressing it this transparently. Very admirable of you to not only disregard the fear of potentially losing viewers by announcing you're stepping back, but also recognizing the value of honesty and actually just changing your viewers expectations so that they always receive exactly what they expected. 👏 From a forever subscriber. Love your content!!

Watched this video to the end as I always do! Love them so much as it gives me a lot of insight into your own thoughts but also gives me a chance to reflect on myself. The relief I felt when I finished medical school and told myself I’m going to make my videos on my own terms, when I feel like it, and leave money on the table, was huge. I’ve had more time for my relationships, friends and family, and maybe most importantly myself. It sounds like you’ve reached a similar conclusion and I’m really happy for you man. Maybe I’ll soon join you on a digital nomad year of my own 😉 Keep doing you my guy, you’ve provided infinite value to me and hundreds of thousands of others and you deserve every bit of self fulfilment and personal happiness for it.

The first video I found of you was similar to this. I subscribed right away. It was light, and unique, and profound, and real in a world where everything was curated and “content-y”. Your content is amazing and I love it, but it usually gets added to my “Watch Later” list (because I know there’s value and things to learn there) vs just stopping me in my tracks and pulling me in and making me feel connected on a basic human level. *This* right here is why I follow you. This was and is beautiful, Ali. Thanks so much for sharing. PS. I’m about to preorder your book.

I rarely get past 5 minutes of a video, but this one… this one I watched until the very end. Unscripted, honest, and deeply personal. I can sense that you still have doubts, and it wouldn’t be natural if you didn’t. “Leaving money on the table” is scary when we live in a culture that focuses on wealth and material things. You have sold all your belongings and there is no turning back. Explore the world, explore yourself. Let the pressure to perform consistently go and I am certain anything that you create here on out will be more fulfilling for you and beneficial to others than anything you have created in the last 7 years. Looking forward to seeing where you land after Tulum :)

Thank you for saying what you said. I’ve been wrestling with the money vs time/joy/fulfillment issue for a few years now and what you expressed so honestly and transparently resonates and inspires me to figure out what that really means for me. It inspires me to start taking action towards that direction every morning. I love your plan and look forward to hearing more videos like this.

I started watching you for your honesty on the topics you were sharing. A video like this is exactly why I watch you and now, why I will pre-order your book. Too many are putting out videos just to make a buck. You are proving to be a rare breed that actually believes in what he is doing, creating quality, and truly wants to help. Thank you and really look forward to this year’s videos!

I watched to the end as well :) You've built a life of creative freedom and opportunity, so I'm really glad to hear you're going to make the most of that now. Do what makes you happiest, you're right - this moment is everything. Warmest wishes and thanks for the FCP Skillshare course that introduced me to you years ago!

Epic video Ali. I journaled along with the video sitting on my couch, thinking how your words could apply to my own life. Consciously choosing for leaving money on the table for the sake of mental health/family/joy/pleasure/fun/rest is something that’s underestimated. Thanks for your time and sharing your thoughts and it’s beautiful to see how it resonates with so many of us. Love to see where your journey takes you!

This is the kind of videos we need Ali. Thanks a lot for being so honest, vulnerable - it makes a ton of difference to so many of us who have the same thoughts, We chase entrepreneurship for Freedom, and in a weird paradox , we give up freedom to be better entrepreneurs. Thank you for addressing it, and helping us feel heard

Glad to hear you take such joy from teaching. Legitimately owe a lot of my law degree to you and your study guides. Was searching (procrastinating) at a time I was struggling with it, great coursework and assignments but always struggled with exams, and found your spaced repitition and active recall videos. Was almost an immediate 180 in results and I'm now 3 years into my career. Will now live vicariously through your travels, enjoy!

“You’ll be happy once you get there.” This quote relate to me so much because it really keeps our eyes focused on the price we seek at the end rather than enjoying the ride to get there. Why can’t we give ourselves permission to breathe and experience how life just beautifully unfolds in front of us? It’s crazy that in the end of it all, we all have our own path to pursuit of happiness and it’s never really about the money. Thanks Ali! 👏

This was really emotional Mr. Ali and sunk deep It made me realize that all these big impact-driven goals I have are mostly centered around making ends meet in the end and if money were no object, I would genuinely spend more time doing random fun stuff, taking trips, chilling with family... Your videos have literally changed my life and I wish the best for you in your next phase of life

it is ok to be yourself, i agree, but who is? really. unpacking this has been my life's journey and at 63 i can saybthat the key is our very early years - not exclusivly, for as long as we remain pliable we can be changed. but those early years, they are the making of us given unconditional love and a home that is a safe place to fail. 🙏

I love how raw this video is! At the end of the day, we all simply want to be inspired. This was so inspiring because it gave us a glimpse into what it might feel like for us once we become "successful". These are the same issues we are all dealing with right now and its nice to see how we can all figure this out together. Thank you for this.

This is one of the best KZbin videos I have watched in years! It is NOT often I will sit through a 45 minute YT video, and feel thankful that I sat, watched, and listened throughout. The is raw Ali Abdaal being Ali Abdaal. Everything you said is correct. Well done Ali! 👏👏👏👏👏 My thought at the end was, Ali towards the end of each year you should publish a video just like this, and talk about whatever has impacted you the most over the previous 12 months. You are huge inspriration to your legion of fans, and I include myself. I am so looking forward to getting my pre-ordered book at the end of the year. Now go and enjoy yourself. Have a fabulous December, and have a Happy New Year!

Hey Ali, just a thought - maybe you need to reframe your thinking around how you view ‘spamming’ your audience on social media about the book? Your 50th social post about the book is still only the first time many people will hear about it and those people would be forever grateful that you made the 50th post because it may just be a book that changes their entire lives - knowing you and the value you already provide, it likely will be! So please don’t hold back from sharing the valuable resource you’ve spent so much time crafting, due to your own feeling that it’s ‘spammy’ because by holding back, you’re potentially keeping the book hidden from someone who really needs it. ❤️
