Everything that Went Wrong with My Jayco Pinnacle 37MDQS in the First 6 Months of Ownership

No matter what RV you buy, they'll all have problems. This is my fifth RV and I've found that most of the problems go wrong within the first 6-12 months of ownership. So this is NOT a bash Jayco video, but rather helpful to set expectations for folks considering the Jayco Pinnacle or Jayco North Point as their next purchase. Note this video is NOT sponsored by Jayco or anyone else. I'll share my candid thoughts on everything.
I'll also address the ever-growing in popularity question, "Are RV's manufactured during the pandemic junk?" or "Do they suffer quality issues like none other before?"

An RV going down the road is like a small hurricane or tornado hitting your house. They have to be made of light weight material just so they can be towed by pickup trucks or SUV's. The roads are full of potholes and debris from time to time. We cannot expect flimsy trim pieces to stay up forever and the creaking and groaning of hundreds of miles is going to loosen some shower silicone, so one of the usual things is that the owner needs to be able to take care of minor repairs himself. By the time you've owned it for two or three camping seasons and done a lot of traveling with it, you'll finally get the bugs worked out. Then you'll be ready for your next one.

Thank you. Yes basically gen is 5500W, 1x 20A leg and 1x 30A leg, so while you can't run all 3x ACs at same time on gen, you can run 2x ACs and other regular items simultaneously...it's possible if you stacked too much such as fireplace + hot water heater + 2x ACs + microwave it might be too much all at once starting watts, but typically you'll be able to run all on the generator with moderate, regular use.

Have to agree. A lot of alignment issues with storage doors outside. Molding around shower panels coming away from wall. Like you I try to fix myself. Used finish nails so hopefully that holds and I can't see them. A lot of the wood moldings around slides in kitchen and dinette broke away during travel. Ended up screwing everything down. looks like it will hold. I hope I hve no more issues. Also, maybe a video on how to remove clock. Thank you for these videos.

Thank you. Yes, sealing it up makes a huge difference. I was camping this weekend with low at 18 F and high at 24 F and had no issues whatsoever. The heated furnace air stays much longer in the underbelly with it all sealed up. There are a few penetrations in the I-beam such as rack/pinion slide and electrical/water intrusions. I did not seal those up, but there's only 3-4x of those on my floorplan and they're pretty small compared to the full perimeter. I've thought about using a brush style weatherstripping on those penetrations, but for now I've left those open.

@@AdventureRocks thanks for the reply. On our 2019 28.5 RSTS I used copper mesh embedded with rodent resistant expanding foam, then gorilla tape. I’m expecting to have to do the same to our 2022 NP when we pick it up in April. Loved your video of mods. Will have to pick your brain more. Are you on Facebook?

This is like a carbon copy of my experience with my Jayco Eagle 317RLOK 5th wheel. Taking off the AC to retrieve the plastic bag in your HVAC system must have been a pain. Very few owners would tackle that on their own. The problem taking it to the shop, at least for me, is my dealer is backed up 3 months for appointments, then they sit on it for a couple weeks before working on it. By the way, that Pinnacle shower is the best in the industry.

Wow. I've been looking at this exact model, but the lack of QC, and more importantly, the lack of apparent concern from Jayco may cause me to look in a different direction even if it means giving up the separate office room.

Considering all things, my Pinnacle actually was slightly above average concerning initial quality/issues when comparing all 5 of my previous RVs owned ranging from Forest River brands to Grand Design. It's kinda an expectation I guess. But, certainly RV brands can always improve on QC, agree 100%.

Glad to help. If you don't need the extra sleeping space in the mid-bunk the 36FBTS is a great choice. The larger bathroom in that one is so very nice! And I believe you get about 300 lbs more carrying capacity on 36FBTS compared to 37MDQS...minor difference, but noticed that too.

Whenever a person buys an RV it’s an experience, especially a first time buyer. I’ve owned 7 RV’s over the years used ones new ones older era RV’s and modern. I can say confidently that older ones have pros over modern ones and cons the same way, but when you spend the large sum of money for a high end 5th wheel the problems generate a much larger concern because I shouldn’t have to have many problems. My friend just purchased a $100K 5th wheel and it’s plagued with issues and unfortunately it’s the dealer that’s the biggest problem with repairing it and that’s another issue all it’s own.

You my friend got me to look at the new 2024 32RLTS Pinnacle and I love it! This might be the one! I have been looking for a LONG time and to be honest have never liked Jayco, but this one seems to have the least "bads" in my book. Anyway, I saw one of your videos and you have your LP tanks working with your JAYcommand system. How did you get that to work and what level indicators did you use? Can the Jaycommand work with other things like that? I thought that was pretty cool!

Thank you, yes I think the Pinnacle is a solid offering. I really enjoyed mine. I had to buy the BMPRO propane tank sensors separately, but they pair with the system nicely. You can also do extra temp sensors too. It's a pretty nifty system.

I would not bother with the Winegard unless you just want to repeat a strong WiFi signal. The 4G access is limited by what I believe is poor hardware and software in the internal router. Don't cross if off too soon. This Jayco was my 5th RV and QC was slightly above average compared to the other units I've owned (Grand Design, Salem Hemisphere, NoBo, Surveyor). Every brand has its strengths and weaknesses, room for improvement. Certainly the after-sales experience could be improved upon, but that's something that can chance and I'd imagine Jayco leadership is listening and reading through these comments to improve in future. I'd still buy it all over again if I had a choice.

Have you had any problems with the water coming through your fridge? The water comes up in the kitchen spigot but never makes it to the fridge door.

Not yet, but check if there is a valve either in your island by sink, or next to fridge hidden behind drawers or fireplace. Seems that is the culprit from what I've heard?

Thank you, great points. I think Jayco fixed the front corner crack in 21 forward by adding an expansion joint just below bedroom slide. I have heard that prior to the joint being added the crack would develop and impact what seems like so many owners again and again. I've been keeping an eye on my spring hangers...those I'm not sure if they've changed for 21-22 or if they are the same. Heard lots of complaints for those as well. So far so good on mine at least.

hi i enjoyed your honesty , i will be in the market for a 2023 or 2024 top of there line 5th wheel soon . I will be a new purchase for me. in this video you spoke about sawdust. I dont believe that saw dust blows into your living space. could you show us proof of that? I also believe you when you say that. I m asking my self how is that possible if all of the airduct should be taped off at the ends? Have you asked the manufacture to fix the ac unit and sawdust?

Great question. The saw dust is a temporary nuissiance. One way to explain the saw dust is that RVs are made on production lines and sometimes the ceiling and floor are flipped upside down during manufacturing for ease of access and then flipped back once assembled. So imagine the roof trusses with AC ducts being assembled and then after the ducts are installed ceiling and roof panels are installed and cut on site with holes for registers and other obtrustions...a lot of that same saw dust generated during manufacturing falls in the ducts that were installed previously and gets trapped temporarily. Then, when you get a new RV for the first few weeks and turn on the AC units that saw dust blows out of the ducts. It's pretty normal in the RV industry. Another point to consider...in the construction of a residential house saw dust is generated during construction and can fall into the ducts on the floor and then gets blown out initially when the fan cycles. Once all the saw dust is blown out, then you're good for the rest of the life of the RV. Again, just an initial nuissance.

Thank you. Really minor issues in the end. RVs are built by hand, so kinda like issues in a custom built house. Once you work them out, it's smooth sailing for the most part. And, really I've heard of much worse on the severity of issues, so I count myself blessed.

We own the exact same model you have, a 2021 37MDQS. We're quite happy with it, but have noticed quirks. Within the first 18 months every valance failed. I now have a collection of command hooks to hold them down as they will not stay down on their own. On our current trip the Sanicon stopped working - from one ON/OFF cycle to the next. I suspect the power relay box but can not find where it's mounted. Jayco sent me a wiring schematic, interesting but not helpful. I can order a replacement direct from Thetford, but I can't find where it's mounted. Any idea?

I've really enjoyed our Pinnacle, too! I did not opt for the Sanicon option on mine, so I do not have any experience on it. I think I've got some pigtailed wires in that bay on rear corner if I decided to add it, but that's the extent of my knowledge on it. I would think Jayco would either put it somewhere in that bay, just inside the underbelly behind it, or closer to the wet bay area or switch for it. But then again, sometimes they put stuff in random places ;) Sorry I can't be of much help on that one. But, you'll have to let us know if you figure it out either way.

We had the same puddle of water along the bedroom wall. Ours ended up being a 90° fitting at the shower valve. Easy fix with the access panel being in the bedroom!

We're looking at the Pinnacle for a full timer for us soon. We found a couple of the big one's that are going to be in the mix of a final decision. I think one is at the 44ft, largest model one. What do you use to pull yours? How is it to pull. I was under assumption the Jayco brand was a "lesser" brand until I went to the dealership and really took a good look at them, seeing the suspension, the undercarriage, framing, etc. How does it pull for you? Would you say it is a good quality other than these little things that you got stuck with? Are you happy with it all in all? Would you buy it again, or the BRAND, at least? Thank you in advance if you're able to take a moment or two away from life.

Glad to help. I use a RAM 3500 dually to pull my Pinnacle 37MDQS. With all our stuff in it and GVWR on Pinnacle at 16,995 maxed out, it has over 4,000 lbs of pin weight. Oftentimes the pin weight advertised by brands is without options, plus no personal items, propane, batteries, etc. So, I'd definitely recommend a 1-ton dually truck regardless of which brand you buy. You'll appreciate the stability of dually whether Ford, GM, RAM, etc. The Pinnacle has REALLY nice running gear from the factory. I was a little skeptical of the Goodyear tires at first as they are E rated (typically you'll find H or G rated tires on a fifth wheel this size), but they have performed well so far. The are BIG tires (tall side walls and fat). Anyway, you'll notice most other brands have similar suspension, but most will supply a G or H rated tire. I'm okay with either/or. The Pinnacle pulls very nicely. I think the only two upgrades could be a pin box with air ride such as the Lippert Flex Air or Trail Air with shock/air bag + disc brakes. The Morryde one that comes with Pinnacle is good, but the Flex Air is even better. I had Reese Goosebox on my last rig which is a Gooseneck style box, but the max pin weight is 4K on that one, so I'm to heavy to use that on my Pinnacle. As far as brand comparisons...really once you get north of six figures, I'd say it becomes more of a difference of features and design overall. Ea brand will offer it's strengths and weaknesses in terms of build quality...some do one thing better, but other things not as good as other brands. Really I find it to be a wash in the end as they all have weakneseses. However, that being said I'd put all of the following in the same class of features for cross-shopping: Jayco Pinnacle/North Point, Grand Design Solitude, Keystone Montana, Alliance Paradigm, Vanleigh Vilano. Slightly below the Pinnacle and previously mentioned brands (in terms of features/appearance) would be the Forest River Cedar Creek, KZ Durango Gold, and Keystone Alpine. Then slightly above the Pinnacle would be ones like Vanleigh Beacon, Forest River Riverstone, and even higher still would be the DRV Mobile Suites and Luxe Gold/Elite. So mostly with the price you'll find you get what you pay for in terms of features/appearance, but there are some exceptions here and there. But, I'd frame it more as difference in features rather than build quality. There's certainly always a better "way" to build an RV, but typically that is more expensive so you'll gain some "quality" as you spend more, but I wouldn't say that makes the other brands cheaper quality in comparison. Hope that makes sense. To answer your last question, yes I'd definitely buy the Pinnacle all over again. Right now I think it checks the most boxes from visual/aesthetic appeal to features to build quality. It's no perfect, but like I said it checks the most boxes for me right now. My biggest complaint is really that Jayco seems to be kinda oldschool when it comes to customer relations/service, so they really want you to do everything through a dealer, which in my opinion seems outdated. They are an older brand as far as having been around a lot longer than others, so makes sense. Anyway, hope this helps in your decision making process. Really don't think you can go wrong with any of the brands I mentioned above. All will have some issues, but usually they are minor and fixable within first 6 months or so.

Really, you took some time of your day to spend with this information and I honestly appreciate this beyond ability to express my appreciation. Everything you said here is fantastic information and has helped me immensely. As fro my truck, I too have a Ram3500HD dually, crew, long, Cummins 2014 but it's got a "couple miles" on her, recently had to replace the exhaust going with changing out the system a bit to "upgrade" it and remove some stuff I feel only causes problems, like mine has in the future, not to admit anything more what I'm doing to it... However, I do have a build sheet on a new build 2022 Silverado 3500HD Duramax, dually, blah blah blah LTZ that'll be totally fixed up with what I want/need for towing what ever it is we end up with. At the moment, we're looking at either the big 44 ft'r Pinnacle or the same sized Northpoint model we saw. (Go big or go bigger, I never have said..... lol) With this little nightmare we're dealing with the past couple years and the pricing at the dealers being upward of having the $50,000+ mark up on the lot models, having something custom like this at the $76,000 range behooves me/anyone buying one and waiting a couple months for it quite a bit. I really do appreciate this, all while this adventure of shopping for something that's going to cost more than our first house and the stress of hoping I don't make a bad decision is very helpful to me with my ignorance of the new rigs available. tY once again. Looks like the wife and I are going to be "splurging", I think the word is about watching all your videos (?...) as she is watching this one the first time now and talking about the storage door allignment makes me curious how many miles you have on this coach? Is it something that wasn't a problem on day one or was it created while driving? Thank you again for all this info AND replying to me and others. I think the storage door misalignment may have just been poorly trained workers on factory floor perhaps? It was like that from day one. I'd imagine Jayco was hit hard like all the manufacturers and perhaps some of the labor force is new enough that they struggled a bit on the alignment? And I'm probably being a little picky too as I see a similar problem on residential doors all the time...I just like a good tight seal. It's a tricker item to install, but I was easily able to fix it by adjusting the clearance at hinge side to side (maybe 10-15 min per door). There are small little white plastic dowels on either side that kinda lock the hinge into place so not too big of an issue to fix. You're no bother at all, glad to help.

I'm sure you're busy with other folk of life itself and I do try not to pester of become a pain in the side but, thinking one more quick thought, if I may... Did you look at other brands before deciding on the Pinnacle? I have a sales guy telling me to look at the Riverstone. We're at the point of deciding pretty soon and the Pinnacle models we're thinking about are two, The 37MDQS for the bunk option/office. Or the 38FLGS. The latter's kitchen is pretty awesome removing the kitchen table, like so many have done with it. riverstone has a couple of nice models, at least one that would have what we like but I don't know it's suspension and underside quality. 3inch walls is "something" about them. Dual pane/lack of dual pane would factor into this as well. They do come with the washer/dryer, stock along with the dishwasher which both we would add to what ever coach we decide on regardless. $137,000MSRP for the biggest Pinnacle is one thing where the riverstone stars around the 150k range, I think. So exhausting dealing with figuring this all out! Luckily the house is (only) for sale at this time but never really know when to pull that trigger! Thanks again sir.

@@chrischapman276 Glad to help. Yes I think the River Stone is probably step above Pinnacle in several ways. When I did my research and purchased they didn't quite have a mid bunk floor plan so that's my reason for passing on them. But, definitely a lot to like on the River Stone units. You could also look at Vanleigh Beacon or Vilano and potentially Crossroads Redwood...those are all similar to River Stone. Otherwise for midbunk units this was my short list of favorites: Jayco Pinnacle 37MDQS Jayco North Point 377RLBH Forest River Cedar Creek 377BH KZ Durango Gold G382MBQ Grand Design Solitude 377MBS / 377MBS-R Keystone Montana 3855BR Alliance Paradigm 390MP

Wow, that's very odd. I think Jayco outsources the generator installs to a third party, but I could be mistaken. My exhaust stuck out a good 12+ inches off the side, which is a bit more than needed according to manual so I just trimmed it down.

Bought a 2022 Forest River covid trailer and a nightmare. It has been in shop for water leaks, kitchen slide hitting the kitchen island and denting refrigerator door. Trim and shower leak issues and in shop 7 months in year and a half. Poor quality control from the factory and dealers

Surprisingly out of the last 5 RVs I've owned, my Jayco has been well above average in terms of cumulative issues, especially long-term. Really minor issues in the end.

My dealer just received my Pinnacle 32 RLTS a few days ago after 4 months. However, I noticed several flaws in my rig. Is it normal that there are no finishes between the ceiling and the roof of the shower skylights. On the roof through the skylights, you can see the wooden frame. On mine, from standing on the roof up top looking down I've noticed I can see through the clear plastic bubble that is mounted on top of the roofing material and I can see the roof trusses. But from the inside of the shower, the trim piece is kind of a translucent material so I can't see the roof trusses from the inside shower. Is that how yours is? I might just be imagining, but I don't think every RV manufacturer does it that way. I just checked on my last rig from an old picture I took and there was an additional white trim piece on the roof under the outer clear plastic bubble, that kind of concealed the roof trusses. Kind of a small detail, but I agree it is strange to see your roof trusses from a skylight up top.

My own opinion on Pinnacle/Jayco. Just from all the flaws as just scene. Pinnacle/Jayco have done a very poor job on this customer's fifth wheel. 🤔 Even though this video was very helpful on my decision of what too look for on purchasing any 5th wheel.

Good points. They all have flaws, some more than others. It can be frustrating spending so much and having those issues, but it seems to be there norm till you spend significantly more unfortunately. Thankfully I could fix them pretty easily.

Nice video. We were looking at buying a Pinnacle this year. Quick question: I understand you are a DYI guy but isn't your warranty cover some major defects for 1 year? Jayco has one of the best warranty on the market. Maybe reach out to your dealer and have them do the repairs, especially if you have a soft roof? I'm thinking that if you ever trade it in, someone will get the heebe-geebeez about a that. Just wondering.

Jayco has 2-year warranty so, definitely could get the soft spot looked at, but easier said than done. Dealers are so overbooked right now that it ends up sitting there for months and manufacturers aren't willing to spend the $$ to fix it right typically. So a lot of hassle and haggling typically. I'd probably hold out till something bigger needs servicing and then get it all squared away at once. It's probably just an imperfection in the plywood used...it's just one spot where there's porbably a knot or something, but it's pretty minor all things considered.

@liannschuster9485 I don’t know about you, but I’m not making a 14+ hour round trip TWICE per issue (14+ to drop it off then 14+ again to go pick it back up) to have any basic stuff like trim repair or silicone replacement etc. Plus the long wait times to get in to the dealer in the first place, etc. Not really your place to suggest to someone that they shouldn’t be fixing these minor repairs themselves. You don’t know their proficiency at this stuff. With the exception of the roof, nothing on this list is beyond the capabilities of a barely skilled DIYer. And I can assure you that I’m not sending my brand new 5th wheel in to have the roof peeled back. Thats just setting you up for MORE issues- and the dealer would probably have kept the unit for at least 6 months, which isn’t reasonable if you’re living in it, or using it frequently. I too would choose to avoid the soft spot.

Do you think going to the pinnacle over the north point was worth the extra $ or is it hard to compare since you haven’t owned a northpoint.?

I do like the wide body, hinged doors (vs barn), midbunk/pantry layout, and extra finishes on Pinnacle. Originally I was bent on ordering a North Point, but then stumbled across the custom Pinnacle build that another buyer bailed on matching my preferences, so really would have done either one. The upgraded finishes are nice though...very resort/vacation-like. So in summary I think the price premium on Pinnacle is fair in the end. I think you get what you pay for with both of them. And they're constantly upgrading North Point so it's nicer each year.

@@AdventureRocks update.... The Pinnacle 37MDQS is no longer in the main build list for Jayco! During the last conversation with Jayco, they can not even guarantee the 37MDQS will be in the build list during 2022. Although, the NorthPoint 377MDQS are currently being built; and as a result, have an expected 3-6 months on a custom order.

@@AdventureRocks Exactly!.... I had worked with a dealer for 4 months on our 37MDQS, and when we were finally satisfied with the fine details and ready to place the order our total bill was $159,000. At which time I was then told that the model we have been working so hard to build was not in the queue for being built anymore. What a total disappointment, so we found a used (for only 1 month) 2020 and couldn't be happier... As a side note I saved substantial $$$$$

Jayco's reputation for bullet-proof construction of all its rigs is well deserved. The few issues you encountered were marginal at worst. So many other 5thW manufacturers have units which are overpriced, underengineered and poorly constructed. One can always find a dissatisfied customer somewhere if you look hard and long enough. You mentioned something to the effect of not understanding why Jayco insisted that you drive to the dealer for a $2 part. There is a very simple explanation. Jayco saves a ton of money on warranty claims by making you jump through hoops. They don't have to pay for a warranty claim that they never see, and they will never see a claim if they make it so inconvenient that you just give up and fix it yourself. I own a North Point nd went through the same thing with my door lock and several other small plumbing parts. I called Jayco and they said "take it to your dealer". I told them I already removed them from the trailer, had them in my hand, and I could ship them to Jayco. Nope. "Take it to your dealer". My dealer is 100 miles away. The diesel would cost more than the parts. So yeah. It's intentional. They don't have to pay for a warranty claim that they never see. Until people stop buying Jayco's due their warranty policy, nothing will change.

When people call Jayco to complain, they need say "I'm in the market for a trailer, but I'm buying XYX brand because of the way I was treated on my warranty claims for my current Jayco unit. Maybe it won't be much better with the XYZ, but I already know how poorly I was treated by Jayco, and I'm not giving you a second chance". Thats the only thing that will grab their attention. They'll pay people minimum wage all day long to read from a script that tells the rep how to deny claims. Much cheaper than paying a claim. FWIW, my current Jayco is my first Jayco 377RLBH). It will be my last. I have a list of warranty repairs as long as your arm. All but one fixed and paid for by me. The majority were denied by Jayco. Their 2+3 year warranty is an absolute joke. Window dressing designed to drive sales. Sorry for the rant. I get a bit irritated when thinking about it.

That’s great you were able to fix these items but why would you not take it back and let the dealer fix this. I had a keystone avalanche I bought new. After a year I took it back and the dealer fixed all of these items.

I don’t like to tell on things like this, but this is our 4th RV, so it’s not like we don’t know what we are doing. We’ve been working up to this Pinnacle and we were hoping it would be our last! It’s a beautiful rig, but … We’ve had so many issues with our 2021 pinnacle. Kitchen sink wouldn’t drain, (took 15 minutes to drain), we thought there was a blockage, but it turned out the angle of the pipes was wrong. One shade won’t go up, tankless water heater is goofy, still shows an EC for error code and we still aren’t sure about how much water pressure the stupid thing needs to run! The refrigerator door is weird and beeps at us if I don’t put something in front of it to stop the door ajar beep. We have a shower just like yours, the surround cracked by the seat hinges. I’d say it looks like too much weight on the seat, but neither of us weighs more than 170! It would be different if we had used this rig a lot, but we haven’t been able to! I think the seat hinges were put on too tightor off a bit and it got jammed in there. flooring on the slide cracked in The LR. There isn’t a second black tank indicator for our 2 bathroom so I just empty them both at the same time. It takes a long time for the gray tank for the master bathroom to drain. They didn’t change the water bay indicator to reflect a tankless water heater, so there is still a bypass for a tank water heater. Fresh water bottle pump very noisy. Big gaps in the underbelly where they sprayed foam. I had to spray more to close it up to keep critters out right after we got it! Our dealer is fixing everything, but we didn’t have hot water for a while until they got the part and fixed the break from freezing that happened due to not getting the tankless water heater totally blown out. (We had them do it cuz we weren’t completely sure how to. The low point drains cocks are behind the partitions in the basement. Good thing I had them winterize, because I couldn’t find them. Not easy to get to either. I just hope we don’t find anything else wrong with it. I guess it’s our fault for ordering it during Covid. Probably trade it in for a park model or something easier to deal with since we don’t move it.

Sorry to hear about all that. It does sound like you've had more problems than the average owner. That is frustrating for sure. Has your dealer taken care of everything for you under warranty? I know it's always a hassle regardless, but hopefully you can get everything ironed out and working again.

@@AdventureRocks the dealer has been slowly coming and fixing all things. Slowly because they had to wait for parts. I forgot about the main awning having to be replaced because it was coming off the roller! The replacement came and was bent, so they had to order another. I really don’t have any complaints for our dealer. They’ve done a good job. And we are 3 hours from their shop. Crazy stuff that needs fixing! There is so much stuff that seems to be going wrong with it. It was made during Covid, so who knows if the people there weren’t very experienced with Rv manufacturing or parts were substituted or what. We got the tankless water heater, I think, because parts were in short supply and they substituted. We didn’t order a tankless water heater. Our dealer is the best and is doing what they can to get us up and running; some stuff they are puzzled with, but they find out what to do. There is a lot of tech on these things, these days and things aren’t really easy to find like the low point drains.

@@AdventureRocks no not all fixed yet. the water heater is still showing the EC code and I can’t regulate the temp. It works, but shuts off if I try to add cold water because I can’t change the temp. Shades still not going up, frig still has door issues. Cabinet over the stove is missing 2 screws so doesn’t open right. Now have a water leak behind the water bay. So waiting for the dealer to come and fix. About ready to trade this lemon. The water started leaking last week, so that was kind of the last straw. Wanting to enjoy Labor Day weekend, but not if we can’t use water. It’s been a nightmare.

Frankly this is the kind of stuff that discourages me from buying any RV. I worked for many years in automotive manufacturing. These are all signs of poor quality control.

At first glance it seems like such, but it tends to be the normative experience when buying an RV, at least in the sub $200K price point. When I think about it more in terms of a hand-built product or more like buying a spec house, then it makes more sense. Certainly could be better QC, but I've seen and owned worse too. With all the RVs I've owned I'd say my Pinnacle is slightly above average compared to other ones I've bought, so considering all things I'm still grateful to own it.

Most of your issues seem to be minor in nature and so I agree with your statement about quality control. But things that are good to look at. Not something you’d generally notice while looking over a unit at a dealer. The roof issue is a little concerning

Agreed, all minor in the grand scheme of things. I've heard a lot worse issues from others. I'm guessing the roof sheathing just had a bad spot that wasn't caught during manufacturing. You'd never know unless you put weight right on it, and it's only a 6-8" square area. I'll probably leave it.

Would you notice water leaks are that the gray and black water shut offs do not hold until you use it and after you get 200 miles on it and all the shades are on the floor when you find they are screwed into 8 inch paneling and not structure

You have to wonder if the manufacturers watch these reviews and see how poorly they make the product and just go back to eating their steak. I looked at an Alliance and there were several fit/finishes issues and the PR guy at Alliance commented back that I was just being critical and how much better their frames are. You have to wonder how a rig leaves the factory with a slam door that won't shut unless you push it from one side to the other and then the edge rubs on the door frame.... and the quality guy says "Our frames are better". I wish we would get someone to import a quality product so the American manufacturers will be forced to get their act together like what happened in the automotive industry.

Yes, sadly. This is my 5th RV and all have been about same. In fairness, the more advanced and feature-filled RVs like Pinnacle have a lot more things to go wrong, so in some ways there are fewer problems on my Pinnacle compared to past units I've owned. Kinda think of it like a house though and how even new well-built houses have issues.

I’ve owned many different brands of Rv over the last 20 years. I bought a 21 Jayco motor home and had some problems, one being you couldn’t use the generator going down the road. I’ve had a few problems from a couple other campers and familiar how customer service goes in the industry. I will say this, Jayco has the worst don’t give a crap customer service of any camper I’ve ever owned. It was so bad I just sold it to recoup my money and moved on. Will never own another Jayco product.

It's my fifth RV and I'd say the Jayco is really slightly above average when it comes to post sale issues. Some issues may seem disappointing at first glance, but they'll exist on all the production built RVs, even custom units. I'd still buy it all over again.

The nut part was $10 or less...disappointing for sure. I think the plastic was just a one-off, not widespread, but glad I was able to get it as it was annoying to hear. I really like the unit otherwise though.

We have nothing but problems with our Jayco. And very disappointed in our dealership Rick's RV in Joluet Il. Jayco authorized to replace the entire floor due to a defect that caused yellowing and the dealership only replaced the main living area because their techs couldn't do it in the time frame allotted. 60+ issues with RV. Never will we buy another Jayco.
