The past few months have been stressful for the whole family. I understand your frustration at a change of plans for the day and I hear the stress in Jonah's replies. Moving, then the hurricane and the destruction from that, losing Grandma, a lot has happened to your family. May the peace of Jesus settle on all of you. If plans don't come together immediately it isn't a matter of life or death, it's simply an inconvenience. Blessings on all of you.

It's definitely been one traumatic shock after another and it definitely affects the body - when you go through shock/panic/anxiety/trauma it's a natural cycle your body goes through - we cannot control it in anyway - we've got to just let our bodies do what it need to to cope and survive...but try try try as hard as possible not to add more stress as all this shock can definitely lead to life altering PTSD and if your brain "breaks" almost nothing can motivate you to work and dream as you did before - please don't push yourselves too hard....

I've seen some people suggesting a gabion wall as a retaining wall for the pole barn. As an engineer, I agree it’s likely the most cost-effective and efficient option for you, given the machines and rocks you have available. Gabion walls are also more stable than just piling big rocks, as the mesh prevents shifting and allows drainage, reducing hydrostatic pressure for better long-term reliability.

I used to stress about the inefficiency of days like that. I'm 58 years young with 7 children and 8 grandchildren. I learned, the hard way, those are God's blessings. You will never know what He has spared you from. Sometimes you can find yourself on the giving end instead. This morning a young woman almost hit me from behind she was speeding, excessively. I drive the speed limit, and there is no way to pass on this narrow road. She was furious. The Lord used me to slow her down. I felt led to pray for her as she was waving her arms around. I have learned to thank God for his intervention and love. I pray that my feet stay firmly planted on His path. Then I go about my day. It has taken me from stressed to blessed and now, it always makes me smile. Deep breath young man!

The value of improvisation, creativity, and going with the flow. The art of learning how to be flexible enough to bend under pressure and not so rigid that you "break", instead. Think about your back, Justin. I've seen you be very flexible in the past, but maybe that hurricane has triggered some deep-seated fear that has come to the surface. Haha, having Jonah around must be a lot like having the mind of an elder inside a young body. He is very knowledgeable and just wants to get things done. He has a very "Country" attitude. The viewers don't realize that sometimes Justin comes off as a "City boy" with his very structured "it is supposed to be done according to the directions"thought process. It is almost like Justin is dealing with a younger version of his father.lol

I rarely comment. But I felt I needed to this time. To Jonah: Watch this video! Assess your respect for your father. You have good ideas, true. So does your Papa. Still a kid, though, because you are letting your emotions dictate your actions and reactions. Take a breath, bro, before you react.

When it comes to getting back & forth over the creek for Big Daddy, having a solid bridge IMHO is your best bet. It may cost on the upfront, but buy once cry once is sage advice. Have you looked into the "Flat Rack" option for bridging the spanse of the creek? Big Daddy would know how to construct solid abutments with wing walls, and you could even tie in the gabion walls into them. Set the Flat Rack on top of the abutments, and you’ve got a bridge that will live through the next 1000 year storm.

As a 60 yr old mother of two sons in their early thirties , I don't think Jonah is being disrespectful to his father. His father trusts him to drive these heavy vehicles. Then he should also let him fix minor mechanical issues using his own experience of having done it before. Dad ,stop micromanaging your son, the stress you're feeling is being transferred to him. Especially these situations being played out with a camera always around. I get frustrated with you sometimes. He's carrying a lot on those small shoulders, give him some space to analyze the situation and come up with the best solution. Accidents happen we rush things to fast.
@edieboudreau9637Ай бұрын
Justin. Disruption is life. It's testing and trials. Make a plan, yes. Follow it if you can. If you can't, go to the next things on your list needing doing. Remember, the FATHER has a plan. It's not ours but we can't see what the FATHER sees. HE created everything AND time. He's in all times at once. ( When he created day & night, he created time.... Most of us MISS THIS FACT).... I had to learn this again, myself, this week 😅 I now make a number of lists of what I want to get done. Each get broken down into parts. Once I have that, if something can't be done, it's easier to do something else on one of the other parts or lists. Getting stressed out means it's time to look at what is being done and thank the CREATOR for that much. Have a favorite praise or worship song? When getting stressed .... Start it in your mind at least. Take a moment and list all your thankful for. It does help. I'll help you get started from what you've shown us in vids...just a smidge: Beautiful views, family farm, family On the farm, children who are becoming VERY capable adults with many interests and abilities, amazing wife that has her eyes on, well, everything 😊!, pole barn is still there, equipment to work on improving the farm, animals mostly survived that ( in the ) storm, new high tunnel, freezers full of food, shelf stable food, water gravity fed to pastures, new home, IN NEW HOME, have some possessions To unbox, a tube channel, abundance plus, new book flying off the pallets, so much still to mention.... I'm sure you can think of more... Remembering that HE cares for HIS PEOPLE, job lost everything but got more back. Abraham left everything behind and was blessed beyond measuring. You know all this. This is just a friendly reminder of how good it is. Ok. The grinder blade isn't available yet, that's ok ...neither is the wood chipper.... It all is part of the plan. Your son was irritated at you because your anxiety about everything was putting undue pressure on him. He took care of the track and the boulders. True, he COULD have stopped and explained it instead of snapping but you are the household head. When you let your worry affect you, you affect everyone else, too. Your voice gets harsher ( without you meaning it to) and simple questions can sound like you doubt them and their abilities. It's a vicious circle. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. It's ok. The CREATOR has your back. Whatever doesn't happen is for your good. Let it be so. Ok. Enough. Happy Day.

If you build a wall like that, it will 100% fail. I've never figured out where that trend started, but that's the exact opposite way to build a retaining wall with stones, and you're lacking in the correct sizes. You'd be much better served with gabions.
@debsenritchedrefuge603Ай бұрын
Gabions are baskets, usually now of zinc-protected steel (galvanized steel) that are filled with fractured stone of medium size. These will act as a single unit and are stacked with setbacks to form a revetment or retaining wall.

@debsenritchedrefuge603 The way they are building this wall, will not hold water, nor earth where it's intended. It's definitely been one hella traumatic shock after another for you all and it definitely affects the body - when you go through shock/panic/anxiety/trauma it's a natural cycle your body goes through - we cannot control it in anyway - we've got to just let our bodies do what it needs to to cope and survive...but try try try as hard as possible not to add more stress as all this shock can definitely lead to life altering PTSD and if your brain "breaks" almost nothing can motivate you to work and dream as you did before - please don't push yourselves too hard.... If you feel "weak" exhausted tired all the time - not motivated - depressed even...its normal rest rest rest until you feel your strength and motivation returning...feeling the ways you guys are all feeling is so normal under the shocking circumstances...

If you are going to use pipe, I would highly suggest you get a hydrologist to determine the size. You have the right idea about using double pipe but the size does matter here. Don't think two 30 inch pipes are enough. Probably two 48 inch lines would be the minimum required. Not knowing the drainage it is impossible to size pipe requirements. If you know someone at the NCDOT District Office they may be able to help. Just a suggestion.

it also helps allot if you spray the tree ones a day, it reduces the stress on the bottom of the tree

I am 63 and i can tell you with certain memory, My mother only had to look at us to correct any issues. We loved and respected her. Even my step father would not tolerate disrespect. We would listen, do what they asked. Always seemed that wisdom outpaced stupid. The few times i tried to be the man of the house, it did not end well. With respect, the boy needs to rein in the behavior. A year in military school will fix that asap.

Jonah has the attitude of a young man who is fed up with- he has more than pulled his weight on the homestead and to see all the work he put in destroyed - maybe this isn’t the life he really wants

We had a similar John Deere equipment destroyed on my property this year for lifting a giant rock. The piece that was broken is THOUSANDS of dollars because John Deere keeps changing equipment every year so the parts aren't available. And old equipment that need small parts are getting melted down because no one can get the parts for anything reasonable. It's a huge disaster in our state. Giant equipment made useless because small parts our out of date.
@eldenl1Ай бұрын
Jason, please, please, please don't push the idea of getting the chipping done quickly. Wood chippers are one of the most dangerous pieces of equipment that tree men use. One big enough to handle the trees you want to chip are big enough to kill an adult man in an instant. See this incident from a few years ago: Teen killed after falling into wood chipper his first day on job (copy and paste into Google search.) From yours sons attitude in this video, he knows it all. Overconfidence is a sure way to becoming careless and then having an accident.

You've gotta get grease in those track tensioners - on both machines. The tracks will stop falling off when you do. And grease all of the zerks while you have the grease out.

Have your two order boys their own tools etc. Mark them so you all will know what is whose. Then when they lose one it’s their responsibility to go find it. Not borrow it from the other brother or from the farm.
