I’ve been trying to reserve my judgement but it’s tough knowing that EA hates putting out quality products these days. I think the dev team is probably perfectly solid though, and as long as the core skateboarding is good, AND customizable for all types of people, it’ll prolly be pretty sick. They need to incorporate a physics menu and hardcore features to offset the Fortnite/parkour bullshit though. I was initially super polarized seeing the goofy wall running and backflips but every clip I’ve seen of proper, grounded skating looks really nice, so fingers are crossed.

Yo Respawn is owned by EA and The Star Wars games have been great from them. No mircotransactions or multplayer. The skate 4 devs seem passionate and are really taking the time they need. Which means EA is allowing them to take their time.

When you look at all the skate 3 KZbinrs now, you’ll see they don’t really focus on realism, but a lot of huge gaps, and weird wallrides, and just big huge things impossible things that are challenging and fun. That’s what is popular and interests the most people. You also see that the community has found glitches to go really fast, and to get to hard to reach places. That’s where the parkour aspect takes place. It’s like that, but with more fidelity, and more stuff built in to allow the average player to do these things. So obviously they’re going to cater to these ideas because it’s what will garner the largest player base. But on top of that, you can always be the person who skates things realistically too, that’s not taken away from the game at all, it’s just other stuff being expanded upon the core mechanics. I’m a person who grew up trying to play tony hawk realistically, I love skate sims, and I’m really looking forward to this game because everything I want is there, plus there’s other shit too that can also be fun, and a new way to challenge and break up the monotony that a lot of these skateboard physics sims have today. Especially with what you’re stuck with on console.

Skate seems like it's going to be fun arcade experience for messing around with friends, the big worry is obviously whether the monetization model will make it impossible to have fun unless you're constantly giving EA money. No way to find out until the game comes out.

Yeah but at the same time it's pretty crazy how long they've been developing the game already without an expectation of payment yet. I imagine the monetization will come from Season Pass style subscriptions, which will be a few branded clothing items, a couple of skate-able objects, a couple of furniture items for your 'crib' and probably access to an exclusive skate zone in the city like how the lake pass works in fishing games.

Dude this looks awesome. I’ve been playing Session and while I love it, it lacks the video game aspect of it all. It feels like skateboarding and it’s fun for a period of time but it doesn’t feel like a progress based game with room to grow it just is what it is, I want a video game experience with my skateboarding game. I'm excited by this flumping mechanic. Reminds me of Tony Hawk's Underground. When they introduced a similar system in that game, it really changed things. And that game was probably the best one in the series. As long as they don't make it too over the top though... lol

I was stoked about this, but skater xl a session kinda satisfy the type of skate game I was looking for. still going to play it, but idk if ill like the arcade style as much after playing more technical stuff. also im not even against the ftp aspect as long as im able to free skate around a map. charging for aesthetic thing or clothing is fine imo. Hopefully they have different modes/lobbies with the ability to turn on/off the parkour stuff like Fortnite has build/no build modes. idk we'll see.

Triple A vs an indie game, kinda a given Skate would have the upper hand in a lot of things, being funded by a company as big as EA they had the experienced game devs and budget. For what Sesson is it's a good game for the amount of people it's made by, with it's flaws included, Skater XL too.

The biggest question mark for me is: Is it going to have a career mode? Being a free to play I'm afraid maybe they don't make an actual history mode, which is a bummer because it's the mode I play the most in every game

There are many aspects of this game, whilst I’m really excited to give it a try upon release (being a fan of skate since the first one), that make me uneasy. 1. The ever-changing aspect of it - one of the things I love about the skate games is coming back to the same world and finding new spots to skate, or seeing something differently. I worry that spots that someone may love will disappear when the map gets updated. 2. The fact it’s on mobile - won’t this force a downgrade to the maximum performance on other systems?? Unsure how this works, wouldn’t be surprised if I’m wrong about this haha. 3. It’s free - Idk why, but I’d feel more comfortable about this new release if I had to pay for a copy of it, like the old games?? Maybe I’m old fashioned, idk. 4. The MTXs - New games nowadays seem chock full of micro transactions, which is going to suck. I’m all for DLC like the old days, but I’d prefer to complete missions to unlock things, or have them be inside a map DLC, or something. Could just be me though. 5. Parkour/Flumping - The parkour aspect seems cool, but I’m hoping it’s not going to take too much away from the skating. 6. Offline modes - I really hope I’ll just be able to skate around by myself like the old games, and/or do a career mode, that’d be cool! All in all, I’m excited for the game and can’t wait to see what the final result is, but I have a few concerns haha

@@stealthactionremasteredsar7936 i just tried out an older build of the skate alpha and i ended up playing for like 3 hours it feels awesome! i'd say from what i played its like 75% there they just need to fix some small things im sure they already have done though it feels amazing all the tricks feel much better than skate 3 i also thought the off board stuff was really cool i could climb to where i wanted much easier. also i couldn't do anything to unrealistic if there wasn't transition i couldn't throw my self off anything to huge

Just not sure if this direction speaks true to what made Skate... Skate... Authenticity, putting the player in the shoes of a skater that had true similarities to the real skate scene whilst also having its charismatic nature to keep it light-hearted. This vision & direction screams 'appeal to the masses to make as much money as possible', rather than 'let's represent the skate community to the masses'. What we have seen in the trailers is literally character models running/jumping/skating off generic assets in a characterless city. It just feels empty. We need attachment to the characters in the game. Story & dialog that captivates the player. I'm sure the vision looks appealing to the suits upstairs... because they have just applied all the unoriginal trendy game mechanics. Such a step away from what Skate's DNA truely is to the players. In summary, it feels like this game is trying to be Skate Fortnite. Maybe i'll be proven wrong...

THIS. Skate 3 in my opinion was trash compared to the first skate and skate 2 which I think is the best one of the trilogy. The story line, the skaters you meet, trying to get sponsors, hitting the skate shops, catching the train, hanging out with other skaters, popping off skate stoppers, backyard skate sessions, it was super realistic and the best we could get at the time. F2P is already turning me off because I have a feeling there won’t be a story included and it’s just going to be ridiculous chains of big tricks at super heights and having to pay for any and all customizations and locations

8:03 "you can customize their style." Hold up- I'm pretty sure I know the answer but I wanna make sure I explore the possibility.. especially if this is something you can suggest to the team. So most skaters think of style like how people land tricks and generally flow. I assume you mean (by saying you can adjust their "style") that you can control flip and scoop speed. What I think would be AMAZING is if there was at least SOME sort of animation control where you could have a really loose and relaxed character (animations), for flat ground and tech tricks), to really aggressive, tight animations for higher speed or in tense like big gaps and drops skating. You see what I mean? I always loved watching those skaters who would have super relaxed style in their vids like almost effortless.

I play tested it and was not a fan of the gameplay. I played all 3 skate games growing up and put in hundreds of hours, so this felt very different. The whole parkour functionality was pretty lame. It felt like a dumb feature to add. Slappy grinds were cool, and the “grind leans” were a great idea but the execution has been poor. They have a lot of work to do (obviously), but I’m not nearly as excited as I was before for the games release now.

Option, yes, but that DEFINITELY should NOT be how skate games are moving forward. Turning with the triggers is odd, and it won't ever feel anything but odd. Not that you can't get used to it, but it's far from ideal.

If you actually skate in real life the triggers represents how you use your shoulders and stuff to turn... They really changed the game with that control input on skaterxl, especially how you can you control the fick speed and or how you can catch the board with your front & back foot just like real life... Session is dope too, but definitely more of a hardcore skate sim that has a learning curve as well but feel satisfying to land tricks😏...

I must say, I'm really not happy about the fact that this will be FTP, you just know, they will monetize every single thing possible. Additionally, one thing I always loved about Skater XL is that there is no progression other than you getting good at the game, kinda like skateboarding in real life, there are no missions or unlockables, it's just you, the spot and your board.

thats the major thing that i loved about the original Skate. title as well. no tricks or other stuff to unlock other than the story progression. The following titles could never give me the same experience anymore as I had learned all the tricks already in the first title. SkaterXL was like a time capsule for me in that sense that it brought back the og skate experience and put it on a new level with the nice controls. Just a shame it was nothing more than a sandbox with no story. I was hoping Skate (4) would be best of both worlds, now I feel like its going to be Skate 3 with more monetization.

This game needs offline support. All of the 'always evolving, free to play' sounds great, until its year 2, the player count has dropped, and EA decides to pull the servers. I can still play Skate, Skate 2, and Skate 3, 10+ years on from their original release offline. Everything that has been said about Skate 4 so far alludes to that we won't be able to do that.

If they expand on the Park editor and continue with updates with new skateable and cosmetic objects, backgrounds setting, etc, "Skate" could literally live on forever. I hope the new Skate's "apartment feature" is similar to the Create-A-Park/Garage from Tony Hawks Proving Ground with similar skateable house items & settings/themes but improved so you can make your apartment a skatepark you can invite friends to chill like a personal lobby. Have it be a hub where you can change gear, edit your apartment/park, watch replays on a tv, etc. and it would really give the game a whole extra level of customization and more useful and cosmetic rewards to earn. From buying a crappy 1 room apartment you can add 2 or 3 things to leveling up and buying a mansion you can turn into you dream skate home throwing lobby parties with your friends. That would add another level to the social side and showing off your individual creativity and really gives you something to grind at. Skate 3's Create a Park has doubled my playtime in Skate 3 & the community maps are the reason for Skate 3's longevity & current relevance. I've been blown away by modded Session(most played game rn) and will probably buy Skater Xl before we get a Skate release date. Just hoping they tap into the Park building aspect because that and the arcade factor will set it apart from the competition in a huge way

They’re doing all this extra stuff to compete with other skating games but it’s a little much. I’ve been a skate fanatic since the first one. I’ve burned those games into my 360. I just wanna get the flickit tricks back and just the smoothness of riding around and skating whatever.
