My theory: The mark on Noriko's neck gives her a psychic link to Godzilla, but not in the traditional sense. When she dreams, she sees Godzilla's past, including his family. As the film progresses, we see more of this. We see that Godzilla is, in fact, the last of his kind. When Godzilla came ashore on Odo, it was because he was escaping the monster that killed his family, hence the scars on his neck. It's Hedorah, slowly mutating into a larger life form by consuming pollution dumped into the sea. We later see Godzilla suffer and mutate through the hydrogen bomb. Noriko feels all of it. Godzilla is still angry at humanity, but is still reforming on the bottom of the sea. Hedorah finally appears on land. It has new abilities, such as forming points and blades using the sludge it has collected. It begins attacking major cities where smog is being produced. Noriko uses her psychic connection to plead with Godzilla to fight Hedorah. He refuses, blaming humanity for his pain. She continues to plead with him, telling him that humanity has the capacity for good. Godzilla reluctantly agrees. He faces Hedorah, but is still not at full strength. Hedorah slices Godzilla over and over. Godzilla falls. Hedorah then uses thick smog to choke Godzilla. Godzilla is now at the brink of death. Out of the corner of his eye, he spots Noriko. She puts her hands on Godzilla, her voice echoing in his head "the goodness of mankind". She turns into pure energy, and is absorbed by Godzilla. A giant explosion knocks Hedorah down... Godzilla is revived. Godzilla is agrier than ever. As he roars, a single tear forms in his eye. He charges up and hits Hedorah with his heat ray. Hedorah is disinterested as the blast envelopes the city. Godzilla emerges from the explosion victorious and makes his way out to sea.

Honestly, I really enjoyed reading that theory because its close to my own that I posted about a year ago. My theory is that Hedorah is in the next movie, and then Noriko becomes Biollante for the third film. I'll explain briefly yet summarily below. The first film deals with nuclear holocaust and the dangers of nuclear weapons. Nuclear science. The second film deals with the dangers of pollution and environmental damage through the insolence of mankind. Environmentalism and maybe astronomy? They could touch on other topics too though. The third film will deal with gene splicing, mutations, and genetic science. Genetic science. Each film would be linked to a field of scientific studies, which interconnect with different movies and messages tied to Godzilla. It would also bring two of his most admired and elusive opponents ever created - Biollante and Hedorah - to the big screen once again. It would also connect the characters introduced in the first movie with these scientific studies, being first affected by pollution and then a personal connection to a monster that's deemed dangerous to the country of Japan.

Really neat ideas. My idea would just be too much and would create a jumbled movie but I'd like to see Hedorah in the next film AND see Noriko become Biollante. A monster of life and a monster of death trying to overcome each other, with Godzilla actually stuck in the middle. And by the end the unthinkable happens, Biollante (Noriko) must choose Godzilla as the lesser of two evils. It's fun to imagine scenarios. I cant wait to see what the director will come up with.

So glad all the Godzilla movies are doing well and resonating with people of all ages! I’m 51 in the late 70’s early 80 a channel out of Philadelphia every Saturday starting at 11am EST they had a show called the creature double feature! I lived for it!! Two monster movies every Saturday with 88 percent being Godzilla films 10 percent gamera and 2 percent random others. Started watching in 1978 when I was 5 until 1985. I was in NJ so we would have to turn the roof antenna to get it lol ancient huh, anyway hope they never stop making them! And bring gamera back too!!

He does exactly what I love in these movies, everything from the characters, to the scripts, to the Godzilla scenes, the music. It was perfect. As for the possible enemy in the next movie, I'd love to see a serious movie with Anguirus. He has been relegated too much into that sidekick role. Rodan would deserve it too, Biollante or Hedorah would be absolutely phenomenal. Mothra not so much. I love Mothra but I kinda have a "Mothra fatigue" going on. She's been in so much stuff, I don't think she NEEDS to be in another movie. But still, Yamazaki could make it work.

The reason I hoped Anguirus would be in the sequel is because he's one of the most recognizable GROUNDED monsters of the pantheon, next to Rodan perhaps. The only way he could use another already established Kaiju and still keep it within the tone of -1.0 would be to seriously alter what makes them fantastical. Anguirus, on the other hand, has characteristics that would fit perfectly in a -1.0 sequel that doesn't want to sacrifice human drama. Plus, I think everyone wants to see Anguirus get the modern polish. We've had our fill of Mothra and Ghidorah. Hedorah would be a potential interesting choice that might work in this universe, but I don't think I'd want to see body horror introduced into the -1.0 world mechanics by making a human transform into a Kaiju. A dinosaur transforming into Godzilla is enough. My vote is still Anguirus!

Noriko becoming hedorah would be horrifying and I love it although I think when it comes to themes she should become Biollante because Biollante's story is tied to tragedy. Not only that but Noriko doesn't deserve such a horrifying fate as becoming Hedorah, but also Hedorah is tied to pollution so it wouldn't make sense at all.

I’m kinda hoping the monster Godzilla ends up fighting isn’t related to (or is) noriko. Personally I’d be more hyped to see Godzilla fight another mutant like himself, such as some other mutated prehistoric monster or another Godzilla. Idk the idea of noriko mutating is cool but I’d be kinda disappointed if she ends up being the monster Godzilla fights.

I feel that if Noriko is somehow 'cursed', she can't be the only one. There must be 100's if not 1000's of others who were around and got affected by the blast. Also, her skin changed as she was getting emotional at seeing Koichi. Does her 'condition' rise and fall? Or does it advance, and remain that way, until her heartrate increases again. Eventually taking her over completely.

I'd love to see that--a direct sequel--too, because all those characters were so likable! I appreciate that Yamazaki-san wants to stay true to the way "Minus One" was presented in presenting the human story front and center, which flies in the face of what most American fans associate with a Godzilla movie (constant monster battles and not much else). I'll gladly accept either Biollante or Hedorah appearing in the next movie as a enemy monster, still, of course.

I just wanna say I am not totally against the whole Hedorah idea but I gotta say I rather see him fight something with teeth and claws, I remember seeing Godzilla Raids Again when I was a kid and loving the fight between him and Anguirus. I love how it looked like actual animals fighting each other. I wanna see a brutal fight where Godzilla can actually sink his teeth in something that can also bite back. I’m sure I’ll like whatever the director decides, it’s just that I’m hoping for a more grounded opponent and think that it’s too early for something ,dare I say, silly like Hedorah. I also wanna point out that you saying that the sequel should be about Japan trying to keep Godzilla and whatever monster from inevitably fighting each other is actually a great idea cause it’ll be a metaphor for the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union

Showa human stories only did well in the first 3. That's it. Then Biollante came with an engaging human story as a driver. Hedora is a fantastic nemesis and my favorite behind Mecha. But if Yamazaki is cool with whatever, I'm in.

I mean it could be an Andrew Garfield situation where them saying Anguirus won't be in the 2nd film. Though I'm not opposed for Hedorah, turning a "silly character" into a cool one. I do think having the deep human story be intertwined with the monsters is possible, but done by a great director. I think he can pull it off, its been done before in different ways of going about it. One thing I'm looking forward to is the music, the Minus One soundtrack, "Elegy," MAN is it Impactful.

I guess I am the only one who does NOT want to see a sequel to "Godzilla: Minus One". That movie was SO great, I just want it to be left alone. One of the best G-films ever. My concerns are that a sequel (if not very good, or not equal to) may just drag everything down. I think back to 1993 with "Jurassic Park". Then a sequel was announced with Steven Spielberg again at the helm. What could go wrong? 😲

So when they get a hit, and make lots of money, they want to try and do it again, so they can make more money, from people like me and you. They don’t make movies for “artistic integrity”. It would be completely unreasonable to not make a sequel to -1.0, there's just no universe where that's not the case. Saying it's possible is kind of like saying it's possible eat pancakes without maple syrup. The acknowledgement of a physical possibility at all is itself a huge overestimation of statistical probability. The next Godzilla movie not being a sequel to -1.0 is exactly as likely as the next Godzilla movie being Godzilla vs. Jason. As for Hedorah, if it's a near sequel, please dear god no. Like yeah, maybe you could make a Hedorah movie that takes place before, like, 1969, like I COULD make a sandwich out of glass, yeah, but I'm not going to because that's stupid. A Hedorah movie too far ahead of the 70's is like a Godzilla movie before the bomb, you just can't really do it. But really it sounds like he's said a lot of things at a lot of different points in time, and I don't think he's dumb enough to drop Hedorah into 1950. I guess that means if it really is that close to the last one, we're probably dealing with something like Mothra or Ghidorah (which, btw, according to the promotional materials, Godzilla the Ride takes place in 1950, and is probably just a test run of the -1.0 sequel, but y'know we'll see when we get there). I think if he's really gonna swing for the fences and do something worthy of Hedorah we're gonna be seeing Akiko as an adult. Point is, once we know what the enemy monster is, every other thing about it will click into place.

I still say Godzilla will fight Anguirus in the beginning of the film and kill him right there and then. And that Noriko will mutate into a kaiju. But it will be a very slow and painful process for her. And this could easily play as a metaphor/satement on the people who got cancer as a result of the radiation from the nuclear bombs. As we watch Shikishima struggle with the prospect of losing her again:(

Watch Gamera 3 - Revenge of Iris they do it perfect even saying after one scene in which GAMERA killed two Gaos to save people he accidentally did hundreds of thousands in damage and over 20k people killed, great movie!

I would like for the 2nd film to be a remake of Raid Again. It’s been a while since we last saw Anguirus Toho keeps doing my boy dirty. I think Biollante should be saved for a potential 3rd film. Hedorah is one of my least favorite monsters and his film is also one of my least favorites I don’t want to see Hedorah.

Godzilla can't use it up close because it damages him as well. He also takes a long time to charge up, so these both offer an opponent a lot of room to gain the upper hand.

I don't think Noriko will become Hedorah' that will be someone else who is affected by Godzilla cells. No doubt that at some point she to will turn into a monster but just not Hedorah' they have to save something for part 3 and when they get around to that one then will see Noriko become Biollante with all of it taking place sometime in 1954.

No,if the director is smart enough he will know how to use balance for example look at Godzilla versus Kong and Godzilla x Kong both where huge box office successful movies both here and wold wide and both movies have balance from there director even the 2014 Godzilla films director did a good job with introducing both the Kaiju monsters and the humans so all this director has to do is use good discernment
