One of the biggest mistake is modern-style lasers. AFAIK only desert eagle in game (campaign, KGB HQ) has correct laser- big bulky cylinder with wires above barrel , which looks more like optic sight, not the laser.

@@M4skedBoi The Desert Eagle actually started production in 1982, though it was only chambered in .357 Magnum when it was first launched, the .44 option coming a few years later. I believe the .50 AE option for the DE came out either in the late 80s or early 90s, as .50 AE was invented in 1988. Edit: Added a quick blurb about the .44 Magnum model being introduced because I mistook it for something added with the Mark VII, which simply isn't true.

There's something far worse in this game than bad gun models and questionable weapon choices: "Warsaw Pact" operators - out of all the WP operators currently in the game, only three are from actual WP countries (Beck -> East Germany, Portnova and Stitch -> Soviet Union). How comes UK and US defectors are more common than citizens of seven different pro-communist countries that were actually part of the Pact? Where are the Poles? Czechoslovaks? Bulgarians? Hungarians? Romanians? A perfect example of an American "logic" right here.

It’s definitely just Treyarch creating factions at the very last second - in the Beta, Stone and the USMC operators weren’t defectors, and you could play as any operator on either side. They ran out of Soviet/eastern operators... so they made them defectors. Pretty ridiculous

3 goofs with the spas 12, you can not aim down sights with the folding stock folded. The spas 12 is fired on semi-auto, but the model has it set on pump action. It can hold 12 shells in an 8+1 magazine tube.

People tend to confuse realism with authenticity. Even Modern Warfare, which is considered the most "realistic" COD to date, it's still quite arcade, you have people jumping, dropshoting and sprinting all over the place. What MW did though is doing some actual research about how weapons actually work and it shows, guns in that game look, feel and sound quite similar to the real deal while still keeping the classic COD gameplay more or less. Having authentic depiction of firearms (which could be argued to be secondary protagonists of FPS games, after the actual characters) and having a fun and balanced gameplay aren't mutually exclusive things, you can have both in your game and honestly, Black Ops Cold War has none of the former and barely of the latter.

The "AKM" in the game isn't a legitimate one, its a Type 3 model originally and they changed it on the final release. Remnants of the Type 3's angled end on the receiver is visible, so is the wood stock, instead of the proper blocky end on a normal stamped AKM/AK74 receiver

My guess for why they changed the ak-47 look like an akm was when they realized that they were going to combine Cold War and war zone, so they wanted the Cold War ak-47 to look distinct from the mw ak-47, which is also based off the type 3 model of ak-47. They could have made a accurate akm by modifying the akm model from cod4, but they probably ran out of time.

Great video. You pointed out some things most of us missed. The M-82 may not have been called thr M-82 back then but the CIA purchased some of Barretts .50 BMG rifles for the Mujahideen to use against the Russians in Afghanistan in the 1980's. Hell the rifle was in Robocop in the 80's also. I am now subscribed. Keep up the great work.

It's called the M82, because it was introduced in 82. The CIA purchase has only briefly been mentioned in one book, so the source isn't especially reliable on that part. What's more for some reason they are using the M82A1 which wasn't made until 1989, so it's still wrong.

@@Orcawhale1 Fair point about the A1 version being used. I did however see an interview with Ronnie Barrett and he confirmed that he was selling them to the CIA for use in Afghanistan. Also by your logic what year did the M-16, M-9, M-17/18 or any number of M-1's (Thompson, Garand and Carbine) come into service? The current version in service is the M-107 so I am not sure we can go with 1982 as the year it went into service it is no always the case.

@@jason1182000 The M-82 and M-82 A1 are very much military designations. The M-107 is just the newest version of this .50 BMG rifle. The rifle was introduced and serving in Afghanistan before 1982 with the CIA and the Mujahideen.

The M107 is not the latest variant, it is the designation for the M82A1 and was originally gonna be the designation for the bolt action M95. I also am not disputing Ronnie Barrett's claim to have sold rifles to the CIA, however he did not claim that he sold M82 before 1982. The conflict lasted from 1979-1989.

Me and my friend noticed that reloading the revolver when you shoot 1 bullet that your character empties the entire weapon and then loads 1 bullet instead of reloading the entire thing TLDR: If you shoot the revolver he empties the whole thing and reloads how ever many you shot instead of the entire thing

Probably my favorite misstep in this title is with weapons in .45 ACP; there is a muzzle break attachment that calls it ".45 APC" and not ".45 ACP". As in Armored Personnel Carrier and not Automatic Colt Pistol. The Type 63 also has a shorter barrel option which somehow grants an increase to the fire rate. During the Alpha and Beta, they kept changing the descriptions. The Alpha claimed it did this by "reducing heat, so the user can fire faster", the beta changed this to say something like "lighter bolt that increases fire rate" to what it is now which just says "modified gas block. increases fire rate".

If you didn’t know, almost all the under barrel attachments don’t attach to a rail, or don’t seam to, it’s like they’re just glued on. This is especially shown on the mp5. You can see this better in the load out when you are selecting the fore grip.

At least they got the M16 right since the M16A2 appeared in the 1980s with its three round burst option. A lot of the animations for the guns are off...even the rifles constantly charging them even when a round is in the chamber already. Or pulling the charging handle instead if simply pressing the bolt release. I mean we could talk about how every weapon has the same stock, foregrip, and barrel mods...which is wrong. The MP5 should have the option for the intregally suppressed barrel for the MP5SD. Also calling the pistol grip a fucking handle....handle.

According to Wikipedia and the Gun Wiki the Barrett M82 was designed in 1980 and began production in 1982 but entered military service in 1989. So it wasn’t entirely impossible to find in the Black Ops Cold War era which is between 1982 and 1984. Everything’s else is just disappointing. It’s sad to see the lack of research that went into this game.

And why are the Russians in that game running around with AK5s? If you wanted a .5.56 for some Russian black ops team like Perseus, they should have used a Galil or Valmet or had the FARA by default, or a Wieger. If they wanted an AK-like non-AK, they should have had a Type 81 (which frankly should have been here instead of the QBZ) or something that already existed like any of the HK33 derivatives or the G41 or, oh screw it why isn't the G3 in this game? Or the FAL? There's also all those wierd prototypes the Soviets made to "improve" on the AK74, why could'nt Perseus use those?

The taped mags giving more ammo doesn't even make sense in the first place, there are 45 round banana mags for lots of guns like the ak. If they were concerned about 20 round mags or something being weaker why not give it a faster reload than 30 round mags or extended mags for a trade off.

The early seasons of Modern Warfare has some really cool tactical looking operators and guns, then when Warzone came out, there were less and less of them in the seasons because they were pushed aside for more flashy skins. I can only think that they do this to attract the Fortnite crowd. I completed all of the Modern Warfare seasons but I can't be bothered for Cold War's as nothing really interests me. The operators all look like raiders from Fallout and there's even a Portnova skin where she's dressed like a hipster... These are the same people complaining about Roze's black uniform, meanwhile they're running Iskra with pink cat leggings or the CDL operator wearing all white

Red dot sights, ACOGs and Holographic sights didn't actually saw combat until 2003 because they were extremely expensive. The only attachments that were available at the time were torchlights and bulky laser sights(the ones from Terminator 1) yet they were expensive as well due to the technology limitations at the time

Additional observations: - early Barret M82 prototypes were built as early as 1980, and the production guns entered production in 1982. Such variants would not be anacronistic. - the "AK-47" (AKM) has an AK-47 style sloped down stock. While this is possible do, I haven't seen any factory variants do it. The straight-line stock is superior for recoil control. - the RPD belt is semi-non-disintegrating, not disintegrating as shown in-game. In reality, it is composed of two 50 round belts that can be linked together into a 100 round belt. Once all rounds in a belt segment are spent, the belt will split in two. This is to prevent the long spent belt from hanging off the side of the gun, being awkward. The chinese belts are made of 25 round segments that can be linked however you like.

When I look at the stylized and fictionalized weapons, like the bizon, the ump-45, and the groza, I think of the weapons in mgsv. However in mgsv, all the weapons are fictionalized and stylized and it creates an overall look and style unique to that game. In Cold War, seeing these stylized weapons mixed with more realistic weapons just looks jarring.

couple things the Vietnam war portion of the campaign has an m16a1 and a type-56. the m16a1 is named correctly but the type-56 is still called the ak-47. the type-56 also has the unusable bayonet that the type-63. you can turn the aug in the game into the aug a3 but it has no external bolt release the AUG integrated grip is unusable the bizon top part matches the as vals top rivets the ump-45 counterpart in the game actually has shape for the lwrc smg-45, an unusable sling mount, the mp5a2 stock, cannot go to full auto, and has no bolt you can pull forcing you to use the bolt release only. the famas is the famas valorise g2 which wasn't an existing variant yet the desert eagle is restricted to only the campaign and has the top red laser that the terminators pistol has. which im sure is just a reference but im not taking any chances on that. the desert eagle has no reserve ammo aswell the fara is from Argentina even though Argentina didn't even get involved in the cold war and there are no Argentinean soldiers. the lc-10 is completely fictional the strife from b04 is just sitting on a table in the campaign. idk where but trust me on this one. why are the weapons sorted by control point? (for example the Milano is in the bravo section) the Russians in the campaign use 1911s with suppressors, ak-5s, and the Milano for some odd reason even those 3 guns are from the USA, Sweden, and Italy and never used in the Russian military the 93r failed to be popular with civilians and the military extended mags for the streetsweeper don't exist the stoner-63 and m14 are weapon systems irl the magnum is a mix-up of multiple revolver types the 93r has a stock irl the dart gun in the campaign is a mix of a ruger mk2 and a welrod mp5s heatshield has holes in it for some reason some reload animations don't involve the slap for the mp5 and some for the AUG do the straps around the xm4 destroyed the bolt release yet it still functional in some reloads the qbz is a mix-up of the 95 and the 97 famas bipod is unusable the m16 is burst action making it an m16a2. and besides the m16 before the m16a1 jammed a lot and was notorious for being garbage, so why give it that name? the m16 has a skull and crossbones in the same area the fortnite m16 has it and it is in the same color as the serial number. the m14 is a battle rifle not a dmr, the award goes to the m21. the m14 looks like it is made of polymer and not wood. non existent sling mounts the rpds flip up sight in the middle is unusable the m60 fires way too slowly the m79 has peace pipe written on it. the whole peace thing was in Vietnam and not the cold war. the m79 was replaced by the m203 which isn't present here. the campaign has a bow and arrow you can use. definitely not replaced by plenty of guns amiright? lets talk killstreaks for a minute shall we? the armor plates from warzone are one. actually smart soldiers would put them on before battle, not during it. the bow and arrow is one and is lighted by fire. the fire would've already been put out. the arrow acts like like a Molotov cocktail which baffles me we have tried sentry guns for the military in the modern day. it never works my dad told me that tablets were used in the military but was used for a short time for inventory space and not to bomb with artillery or semtex never spin the cylinder of anything revolver related including the war machine. using rc cars to bomb people is kinda strange. I think that's everything I can list. you can mention anything I missed in the replies.

The M14 is both a rifle and a weapon platform The M16A1 (Colt Model 603) worked quite well in reality you are thinking of the original M16 (Colt Model 602) the AUGs integral grip is usable you just have to equip the field agent grip (which doesnt make sense) The AKS-74U has magazine options for a black 7.62x39mm RPK drum mag and a green 7.62x39mm RPK drum mag even though the AKS-74U utilizes 5.45x39mm ammunition

I think there was a practice done in the 80s that involved chopping the carry handle off and replacing it with a bolted rail on an AR-15 upper reciever. Perhaps that's what the flattop reciever ingame is based off of?
