@@jessicaconda4825 okay, but if they _worshipped_ candyman then why did they burn the pile of furniture in the first movie? the boy told everyone that candyman was (supposedly) inside the pile, so wouldn’t that scene imply that they wanted to kill him?
@jessicaconda48254 жыл бұрын
@@TheBestPizzaConnoisseur While everyone knew that he was real, only a small group of the actual residents worshipped him. Sort of the fear is power trope. The sequels touch a bit more on the cult aspects but it could be infered that the man arrested as the 'candyman' and others like him used the residents knowledge of the real one to get what they wanted. Thus the residents who'd been living in fear of the Candyman were the ones to torch the pile, and were not necessarily the o es that worshipped him.

I frankly liked this movie cuz Candyman didn’t just kill Helen, but drove her insane, framed her for murder, made her hallucinate, had her kill her best friend, took away everything she loved in life, held her hostage to her hallucinations, and just mentally tortured the SHIT out of her before killing her. I was genuinely impressed since pretty much every other horror story I’ve seen just either goes for the kill or just frames them for murder and holds them hostage, but Candyman completely FUCK UP HER LIFE before killing her.

Yes! But why did Candyman do this to Helen specifically? She was a host to Cabrini Green's legend, which was dying. The Candyman legend that is. He chose to make a spectacle out of her to reignite the lengend of Candyman. To show that Candyman IS Cabrini Green. Helen is Candyman's vengeance for being forgotten. Ooops! I said Candyman 5 times. Looking into my screen. Which has a reflection.

@aaronspillman11403 жыл бұрын
I watched it as a kid and wasn't very interested in. I recently watched it again as an adult and I made an observation about it. There's two ways you can look at this movie. 1) Candyman is a strictly fictional horror movie and when we see him he is really there killing. 2) Helen is writing a paper and sees it strictly as fiction. But when she takes the hit to her head it causes her to have a break from reality. Possibly causing a new mental illness (like split personality syndrome for example) or possibly creates one. Every time she sees Candyman she is actually hallucinating and the other personality is taking over and she is in fact the one committing the horrific crimes. For example, when she is in the shrinks office she appears to be strapped to the chair but maybe she wasn't. She kills the shrink but because she couldn't deal with admitting she is the killer she sees herself strapped down giving her a mental "out". Also he tells her "It was always you Helen, it was always you". Implying she was the killer all along. This would explain why she also knows where the baby is in the end because she was the one to kidnap the child and murder the dog. Maybe I'm way off but it would sort of fit into the academia setting.

Candyman Williams registered the name first. I wouldn't have compromised. First to register owns the name. But it's cool about the Soul Food connection. Eraser Williams starred in Soul Food the film. Honestly, the mythology of this is decently explained within the movie. Long story short, her interference with the murder "demystified" the Candyman legend, as the murder being blamed on him kept him going. Thus, he starts targeting her for vengeance to prove his power. So in a way, kind of like Freddy Krueger rules. That said, it also became something of a jumbled mess with the mythology in regards to why he was infatuated so much with *her* - I recall there being some implication that he was trying to replace the woman he'd loved in life, but that might have been one of the sequels. Also, I strongly recommend watching the coldcrashpictures review of this movie - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jV7Pk3awiMRsnMU - since he goes pretty in-depth with the setting and even breaks down some of the real-life misconceptions and realities of life in the Cabrini Green projects that I'd never have known otherwise.

I don't know why, but I never felt Candyman, the character, was scary, just a pitiful character that was mistreated until his unjustful death. The scary part of the movie was the environment and how it was presented, a city that let its citizens down to such a degree that Cabrini Green (in the movie) became a place where good people try to live while having to deal with crime and its effects on a near daily basis. I guess Cabrini Green and Candyman were reflections of each other, products of the ones that controlled them, that led to their destruction.

@@abramsullivan7764 ? Did you not see the movie? Anne Marie and her baby Anthony are in this film- baby Anthony was kidnapped in this movie by Candyman. Anthony (as an adult) in this main character in the new Candyman film and his mother Anne Marie is also in the film - if you watch the trailer you will see that.

Candyman doesn't need to kill anyone if they fear him. The murder of Ruthie Jean created fear of him. The gang unintentionally fed him the resident's fear through their reign of terror.

Candyman was the only movie that ever scared me. My mom is a big horror movie buff and I've always enjoyed it. We went to see candyman 2 in theaters. I was 8. Long story short while visiting my aunt she and my mother closed the door while we were in her walk in closet with the lights off and started saying candyman. My sister hadn't seen it so I don't know if she started freaking out because I did but it was a mess. I've been scaring the piss out of both of them ever since😂 they will be regretting that for years to come

Fun Fact: During filming they used a profressional hynotist on Virginia Madsen during the scenes with Tony Todd. That's how they got the glassy look in her eyes. The effect lasted long after filming had rapped, and the director accidentally triggered it a the wrap party thinking the effect of the hypnosis had worn off

How did you not sin the fact that bees MAKE honey, and doesn't ATTRACT them. Smearing honey on him would be more likely to attract ants, not bees. If I recall right the mirror thing back to back was I think from actual real life case of some one who was murdered because the apartment were connected by small space that ran behind all the bathroom mirrors . And it was not found out till years after the murder that they found out that's how the killer did it. A lot of horror movies often base things off real life either crimes or murders. And they did explain why it took so long well to a degree there was stuff they had to cut due to back when it was made mixed race couples was heavily frowned upon , Helen was meant to be the reincarnated love interest from whom candy man died for in his human life. Also I think candy man was how do i put brought into existence is more of a curse. I also think honey was considered candy or a treat i forget which when he was supoosed to be alive.
@Jorie9213 жыл бұрын
After seeing the new one, they can so easily build a great universe. The candy with razors can easily be linked to Sherman now. I was bummed Jake wasn't in the new one. He waited to show up because she's the reincarnation of his love so he wants her to join him. He slowly destroys her life so she has nothing to live for and will willingly join him. Oh fun fact, the douchebag husband is in the original story and it's a major plot point.
