Captain Stacy isn't mad because Peter was Gwen's friend. He was mad because Peter was like a son to him. Literally in the span of the opening we see that their families were close enough to have dinner together - Gwen, her father, Peter, May, and Ben are all giving grace around the table. And the fact that he is so upset over Peter's death that he tries to arrest Gwen NOT for what happened in the museum, but for his death, shows that. It's called subtext. Also, real Spidey heads know that Spider-Man is notorious for being difficult to work with. He has worked alone so often that he tends to actually get in the way of teamwork - as shown during his collab with the Fantastic 4. So having hundreds of solo fliers trying to chase one guy naturally made it *easier* for him to escape, because they were constantly getting in each other's way. Note that when the herd is thinned out, Miles actually *is* struggling to escape. When it's just him and Miguel, Miguel has him on the ropes constantly.

25:15 The thing is even without cultural context it still works. Moments before this Miguel had crashed through the window acting so aggressively that two other spiders were telling him to take a breath. It doesn't take much in that scenario to think 'I shouldn't stop him from going home.'
@ljeans53111 ай бұрын
Spider-byte in that scene is also one of the spider people at the end of the movie to join up with Gwen. She saw something in Miles and wanted to give him a chance. And just like Gwen many in the spider society may not totally agree with what 2099 is doing. They may be unsure of how to approach ending the universe. Its a difficult decision to make tbh.

Yeah as a person who was supposed to understand the cultultural context, it wasn't my first thought regarding her specifically. I feel like Miles' plight is reasonable enough to have people on his side without having interracted with him a lot. It seems like most spider people follow Miguel reluctantly, using his spider society as a way to feel community and connection. Their cultural connection is another good interpretation and it can be both.

The fact that CinemaSins writers didn't pick up that the entire point of this story is to have us question whether or not the canon events need to happen is sad. Like that's the point, we know Gwen knows her father is supposed to die and at the end because he leaves the force that future now won't happen. There is another reason why the universes are destroyed. Like seriously, I do not get how CinemaSins and those people who write the sins fail to pick up something so obvious in the movie.
@ohilevoeauca78911 ай бұрын
All we're shown is ONE universe being destroyed, and we only know that Miguel is the one who thinks breaking a "canon" did it. He's not even a "canon" Spider-man by his own rules. He wasn't bit by a radioactive spider, he doesn't have a Gwen, he doesn't have a police captain, he doesn't even have a dead uncle. HE is the outsider, not Miles.
@darththeo11 ай бұрын
@@ohilevoeauca789 Yeah, there is tons of evidence to support the idea that the required "canon" isn't what maintains the universes and that it is just what Miguel thinks does. He is responding out of grief for the harm he feels he caused and wishes to prevent further harm. But, the fact CinemaSins writers didn't pick up the extremely obvious hints is sad. Like it isn't even neon sign pointing to it level of hints, it is more obvious than that.

@finnsword828611 ай бұрын
Mayday is another clear example of why Miguel is wrong. She wouldn't exist if not for Peter B's experience with Miles. Which....according to Miguel shouldn't have happened. So, Peter B's world should have been destroyed because he wasn't SUPPOSED to have a daughter. And yet it's going fine. Gwen's world is still fine. The movie so clearly shows that Miguel is wrong.
@matth228311 ай бұрын
yeah, we see 2 universes being destroyed. 1 that Miguel went to to be with his fake daughter and the other that Spot went to. They look nowhere similar to how they are being destroyed. Miguel's was a wall of force deleting everything, while the one Spot goes to end up with something akin to a blackhole, which I my opinion is clearly tied to Spot

Another explanation for how Miles was able to escape from so many other spider people is that his spidey sense helped him sense what they were going to do since they were trying to capture him and were thus a threat, but their spidey senses didn’t help them sense what he was going to do since he was just trying to run away from them and thus wasn’t a threat. She's a hero, a Spider-Man, and at that moment she saw just someone who needed help, and she didn't go through with it. @MichaelDavis275411 ай бұрын
Thing is though is Spot is going to cause one of the canon events to happen (Jeff's death) meanwhile Miles is trying to stop it and Miguel is only prioritizing Miles because he's threatening the canon and the potential of if Jeff lives then the entire multiverse collapses meanwhile Spot while still a threat isn't the priority target as he's not really threatening the canon if anything he was causing them to happen (like with Captain Singh) and Miles was preventing them And Miguel saying if he hadn't been bit Peter would've lived isn't entirely false either Miles was supposed to write an essay chose not to hung out with Aaron got bit went back to the Spider that bit him and wound up in Peter's way so Peter had to balance fighting everyone and making sure Miles (who just got Spider powers that Peter could sense) is safe
@Zebo1234567811 ай бұрын
Miguel isn't trying to blame Miles for being bit and getting Peter Parker killed. He's trying to explain to Miles why it's so important for him to cooperate with Spider Society. Miles is an anomaly. He's a problem, and he has to accept it. That's Miguel's stance, and he's trying to scare Miles into giving up or seeing things his way. Miguel lacks the delicacy to handle interacting with a teenager like Miles, hence everyone else telling him to "go easy on Miles." The more Miles pushes back against Miguel, the angrier Miguel gets, which ends in him yelling at Miles for not respecting the danger he poses on his entire universe by being an anomaly.

With all the insane and faulty sins they did, how could they not do "The portrayal of Miguel O'Hara in this film is problematic as casual fans will come to believe that he is always portrayed like this." Seriously Miguel was worthy to wield Mjolnir. 'Nuff Said.

not really the movie's fault that some people are going to wrongly assume something
@thesaltdragon10 ай бұрын
23:30 another point is that while yes, Miles's actions somewhat caused him to become Spiderman, something CS misses is that while it might not be Miles's fault, Miguel doesn't see it that way. He lost everything to the continuity, and openly seeing Miles straight up deny to follow the canon events is like an insult to him. It feels like Miles is putting down Miguel's trauma as nothing because*he* can do it where Miguel couldn't. Miguel is furious at this point, and probably even blames Miles for his continuity event a bit. Even if someone placed the spider on top of Miles for it to bite him Miguel would still hate him. (Also, as a side note, he's clearly projecting his self hatred at Miles in this scene)

20:33 Something rather neat I want to point out about this scene is that it's most likely that this version of the prowler is from earth 199999. (Or adjacent earth but I personally hope not.) Which I think is awesome considering we haven't yet gotten to see that in any movies take place in that universe so this makes for some awesome foreshadowing. Which could also mean that the MCU is going to have a version of Miles Morales, potentially one that also becomes a spider man.

22:35 Also, fact check me on this if I'm wrong, if i remember throughout the whole chase. All the other spider-people were on the offense while Miles was on the defense so his spider sense was playing a key factor in him being able to escape.

I knew about the spit valve in saxophones because I grew up playing brass instruments. Also there would have already been a Spider-Totem in 1610-B because it already had a Spider-Man when Miles was bitten. 42 is a world with a Spider-Totem but no Spider-Man, hence its chaotic breakdown in the year and a half since the spider vanished.

Miguel: "the Canon Event has to happen. You HAVE to fail saving your parent cop captain, Miles. So instead I'm going to prevent you from following the canon (IE attempt to save the captain figure) like a proper canon breaking vampire spiderman" Spectacular: "I can't ever look the other way..oh schnikt, wrong universe, I mean, "'its the truth miles" Also, nah Jeremy, ya didn't just sin anything involving the best character in the movie, Hobie Brown who I knew off , but this movie absolutely made me fall in love with the character.

24:09 As a Spider-Man junkie myself, I’m not part of half the audience you lost. I hear “Spider-Totem” and I’m immediately invested. I’m assuming it’s from the Spider-Verse comic run, along with the “Web of Destiny”.

I hope that the Web of Destiny gets properly invoked at some point, but given the nature of this trilogy's direction, I'm thinking that's a far shot in Beyond. That said, what we've gotten instead is way better than I expected.

There was also one additional reason the Spider-people had trouble catching Miles: they weren't used to working as a team, at least not many of them. For the majority of them they're a solo act, most of them got in each other's way, giving Miles the chance to escape.

16:59 moreover, if Jeremy bothered to read the fucking books or even a wiki page for that matter, Spider sense only works when the person or situation around them poses a potential threat. That's why once the venom symbiote detached itself from Peter, that Spider-Man can't sense Eddie (because his Spider-sense no longer detects the symbiote as a danger). Oh, random fact, this also makes Spider-Man criminally good at poker because his semse sees the loss of money as a threat.
