Gonna go ahead and pin this comment due to a comment misrepresenting my position getting too much traction In this video, I make a reference to Peter 3 claiming Gwen was his "MJ". I want to say a couple things regarding this. 1. This video is a response to CINEMASINS. I am criticizing what CinemaSins is saying first and foremost. 2. With that context in mind, I compared his claim with how Peter 3 makes a similar claim of Gwen being "his MJ". My point was that, in-context, the line is bad, namely because Gwen and MJ (Mary Jane and/or Michelle Jones) have different impacts on Peter Parker's characterization. I am NOT fucking saying the movie is calling them the same person. How you people even came to that conclusion based off what I said is mind numbing, but here we are. Some of you are even attempting to make the claim that I'm missing he's comparing a love interest to another love interest, and that betrays the literal years I have put into this channel teaching media literacy through my work. You all know better than that. I would have hoped you knew ME better than that. Guess not. Anyway, Peter 3 already has an "MJ". He just hasn't met her yet, because like the comics, Mary Jane doesn't become a thing until Peter is in college. As we all can see, Pete is just graduating high school in this movie. Rather, this is his "Gwen", an extremely important character that massively impacts the mythos of Spider-Man (Peter AND Miles, now). Saying "this is my MJ" trivializes the importance of Gwen Stacy as a narrative element. I would argue that she's more important to Peter than Mary Jane is, because her death causes Pete to carefully consider how he saves people now. This was shown in movie form in the way Peter 3 saves Michelle in No Way Home, which allowed him to redeem himself. This is what I am saying in the video-- that line betrays the impact Gwen has on this characterization, something No Way Home attempted to show. I'm simply saying you need to at the very least treat those characters with equal reverence. The line places MJ on a pedestal, and says they are interchangeable. They are NOT.

I saw the point youre making just by watching the video. Anyway that quick cut off of "why did you say that name?" just made me laugh my ass off idk why. But hey nothin wrong with sandwiches for breakfast 😅 And bruh wtf was that at the end after Jeremy tried to sin the movie for Andrew being older than a high school student? 🤣 Where is that from?
@therondanielson99626 ай бұрын
I fully understand what you’re saying, but I still don’t think the line is bad. I think Peter 3 just means “I lost the most important person to me/lost my gf” and since for Peter 1 that’s currently MJ he says that line to relate to Peter 1/ so that Peter 1 can understand his pain. Anyways, love your content! Great video as always 👍🏻

I think Th3Birdman was just explaining the impact on Spidey each character had given the actually, true to Spidey story in the comics, and not the MCU or other films featuring Marvel's Spider-Man. Tobey had his own Gwen in Spider-Man 3 and his own Captian Stacey, but that was well after he and MJ got together. His point was to educate and to respond to Cinemasins, who famously doesn't know shit about comics (or much) and spreads a ton of misinformation. It's pretty clear in the video, but I understand the confusion. That's what happens when movies follow bits and pieces of the OG storyline and lines like "She was my MJ" are said.

Not when you consider the fact that Max has been yearning for someone to appreciate him and need him the way that he has been lacking in his entire life. I mean, the same disease can work very differently for people. Some people survive years with cancer and some don't. Some people are mentally gone within a year from alzheimers and some aren't. Heck, some people get bed ridden because of a flu and some just get sniffles. I know they are father and son but more or less 50% of the DNA should be different.

"That's the best way to beat an invincible superhero -- go after the people he loves to break him mentally, because it's nearly impossible to do so physically" You can see this play out in the Injustice: God's Among Us video game and Injustice film. Joker uses a custom gas that makes Superman see Doomsday and he immediately grabs him and sends him into space without a second thought. It wasn't until he was free of the gas he realized it wasn't Doomsday but his pregnant wife, Lois (Kent?). This broke Superman to a point where he enacted mob justice on Joker, and sent him on a path of destruction in his universe. Personally, I didn't much care for the film's depiction of Superman, but I did have to commend the writing. The way he panicked when he learned Joker had Lois helped make me believe this arguably weaker version of Superman (mentally, I mean) would spiral into chaos after his own 'one bad day'. No Way Home kind of suggests something of sort with Peter 3 when he says he 'stopped pulling his punches', although SONY probably would look at Regime Superman, hit their head and think "y din't we dink a dat?" lol.

This was better than FFH I don’t care and that movie was even more flawed than this one lol
@Th3Birdman6 ай бұрын
@@terryprice1691 Haha. Would you care to debate that topic? Far From Home is lightyears better than this movie; the Mysterio scene alone eats any scene in this movie's lunch. I'd also argue FFH has the better Spider-Sense sequence. What you got?
@terryprice16916 ай бұрын
@@Th3Birdman I’d be happy to: 1) FFH ultimately did not feel like a Spider-Man movie to me. I’m sorry it just didn’t. People can talk all day long on how supposedly awful TASM 2 was which I’m not saying it was perfect as it was far from a perfect movie but Far From Home was also far from great. 2) The Peter Parker and Michelle Jones relationship just never made sense to me. These 2 had beef with each other in the first film and all of a sudden they’re dating each other in the 2nd movie? Like what lol TASM 2 when it came to romance Peter and Gwen definitely had a lot more chemistry. Debatably the best chemistry in all of the Spider-Man films. 3) Peter also honestly acted like an idiot in this film. He trusted someone else with one of Stark’s most prized possessions even though he barely knew him for like a week and he ends up paying for that mistake later on. I get it he’s a kid and he makes mistakes but I feel like ignorance shouldn’t be an excuse when it comes to an important piece of technology potentially being compromised. He’s also amongst one of the smartest characters within the Marvel universe. 4) Parker shows a lack of responsibility in Far From Home that kinda contradicts what he’s done in Homecoming which I personally think was a lot better than the sequels that came after them even NWH which as much as I like that film it is a jumbled mess, which is a whole other topic I won’t get into. FFH was completely derivative of what kinda person Peter was trying to be after the first film. I’m not saying heroes shouldn’t take break but when it comes to inter-dimensional threats Peter took a break and turned his back on the world when it needs him the most even though he tried to be more responsible by the end of Homecoming when it came to apprehending the Vulture. 5) The color grading in this film from a stylistic angle is just not as good as the previous Spider-Man films and is debatably the ugliest looking of the trilogy at least for me. The VFX isn’t too bad though I will admit. 6) The supporting cast is terrible and fairly forgettable maybe with the exception of Ned. 7) They cut a certain amount of scenes from the movie that could’ve added more depth to it but didn’t keep in the final product for whatever reason. 8) The comedy is really stale and generic 9) The focus on certain plot points isn’t shifted well enough and fails to really capitalize on them which is the trip, Peter grieving over Tony’s death, the world ending plot point, Peter’s crush on MJ) It’s all really just one dimensional. 10) With Nick Fury and Peter Parker both being a Skrull due to Secret Invasion it makes things even more complicated with having their decisions being out of character. 11) The whole concept of EDITH was stupid and should’ve never been a topic of discussion to begin with. FFH makes Tony act OOC by creating a death machine that executes anything at a words command and making controls easily transferrable, and most of all giving it to Peter when he acknowledged that Peter didn't need it (also brings up holes for EG but that's a whole different issue). 12) As for Mysterio. He was a mere shadow of who he was supposed to be in the comics and even in the tv shows. I do realize some twists in the character’s origins have to made for modern day media but I feel they could’ve done anything than just making him an ex Stark employee. The effects of how his suit works was also pretty inconsistent as cool as some of the effects were, it didn’t entirely make sense to me. Even in Spectacular Spider-Man they gave the character a bit more depth while also making him fun and a bit more interesting.

@@terryprice1691 "FFH ultimately did not feel like a Spider-Man movie to me. I’m sorry it just didn’t" So I asked would you like to debate this topic, and you begin with a subjective value judgement that you don't even substantiate. Um... would you like to support this claim? What makes something feel like a Spider-Man movie and why does Far From Home fail to meet this criteria? You can't just say things-- you need to back them up. "The Peter Parker and Michelle Jones relationship just never made sense to me. These 2 had beef with each other in the first film and all of a sudden they’re dating each other in the 2nd movie?" Couple things. 1. "Having beef" with each other is a classic sign that a man and woman (boy and girl?) like each other. This concept is as old as time. Homecoming established that Michelle liked Peter from the sidelines the whole time, as she was following his attempts at wooing Vulture's daughter. Women being mean to you for no apparent reason is a sign they might like you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaXJqGisgtKHmbcsi=zP7ykOPcAf2BI7Dy 2. They weren't "all of a sudden" dating in the second movie. They (meaning Peter) began developing feelings for her due to proximity, and as I already stated, Michelle clearly already liked him since Homecoming. I mean, how long do you think this should take, exactly? Gwen and Peter 3 began dating within the span of a single film, and Mary Jane and Peter 2 were kissing upside down about an hour in the first film. But let me guess, those count... because? "when it came to romance Peter and Gwen definitely had a lot more chemistry" You know Tom Holland and Zendaya are... actually dating in real life, right? It doesn't get more "chemistry" than real life. If you're going to claim they're more awkward, then that would be a result of really good acting, as, again, they actually like each other in reality. "Peter also honestly acted like an idiot in this film" Oh boy, here we go. "He trusted someone else with one of Stark’s most prized possessions even though he barely knew him for like a week and he ends up paying for that mistake later on" You're making that up. Those glasses were NOT one of Stark's "most prized possessions". Like, what? 😂 Where did you get that from? Further, you're removing the actions from their context. Mysterio was brought to Peter's attention by someone he ACTUALLY trusts-- Nick Fury (in reality, a disguised Talos). If Nick says you can trust this guy, you can probably trust that guy. He was fooled by the master of illusions; this is CLASSIC Spider-Man. Why do you think Mysterio is one of Spider-Man's greatest foes, and why he's featured in every other Spider-Man game? This ain't The Wall-- Mysterio being able to manipulate Parker is in-character for both characters. "Parker shows a lack of responsibility in Far From Home that kinda contradicts what he’s done in Homecoming" This is another claim you have not substantiated. How did he show a lack of responsibility? By leaving the tech in the hands of (who he thought) was a more capable entity in the "hero of the multiverse" Mysterio? Peter is still a kid dealing with high school issues. Tony should have never left him the glasses in the first place. And showing a lack of responsibility is a very interesting set of words when you're literally defending The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and claiming Far From Home doesn't feel like a Spider-Man movie. Um, did you listen to the rant Birdman went on in this video about Peter 3 bailing on a friend, leading him to become the Green Goblin which resulted in the freeing of Electro and the death of Gwen Stacy? A death that effected him so much, he literally stopped fighting crime for 5 months? You mean THAT lack of responsibility? What about in Spider-Man 2, when Peter 2 decides to abandon being Spider-Man and let criminals run amok in NYC? Remember the hot dog scene? If you're going to claim Peter 1 has a lack of responsibility for giving up the glasses and THAT makes his movie not feel like a Spider-Man movie, then Spider-Man 2 and TASM2 are BOTH out of the running as Spider-Man movies. You can't have it both ways. "The color grading in this film from a stylistic angle is just not as good as the previous Spider-Man films and is debatably the ugliest looking of the trilogy at least for me" Another subjective value judgement. One could argue TASM2 is over sharpened and the cgi looks unrealistic (Jeremy literally does this in THIS video). This means nothing. You like blue, I like red. There is no argument here. "The supporting cast is terrible and fairly forgettable maybe with the exception of Ned" Another subjective value judgement. Since Far From Home has a MUCH higher audience score than TASM2, one could argue that you are in the extreme minority with this take. Hell, the VAST majority of people that talk about TASM2 dislike Paul Giamatti's Rhino, Jamie Foxx's Electro and Dane's Green Goblin. Literally no one likes these characters until people like you retroactively attempt to use this movie to shit on Tom's Spider-Man films. The only characters that consistently receive any positive feedback are Gwen and Peter. Like, name literally ANY other character in this movie that people other than yourself actually like. You can't and I know you can't because this movie has been getting shit on since it released, and I saw it in theaters the day it came out. "They cut a certain amount of scenes from the movie that could’ve added more depth to it but didn’t keep in the final product for whatever reason." And? "The comedy is really stale and generic" I don't think you understand the concept of a debate, and why you need to substantiate claims with evidence. You're just telling me "I didn't like a thing". OK, great, thanks. "The focus on certain plot points isn’t shifted well enough and fails to really capitalize on them which is the trip, Peter grieving over Tony’s death, the world ending plot point, Peter’s crush on MJ) It’s all really just one dimensional." OK, explain HOW. You need to learn how to SUBSTANTIATE YOUR CLAIMS. "With Nick Fury and Peter Parker both being a Skrull due to Secret Invasion it makes things even more complicated with having their decisions being out of character." This is hilarious given Talos was literally following the orders of Nick Fury himself. And since when was Peter Parker a Skrull? What??? "The whole concept of EDITH was stupid and should’ve never been a topic of discussion to begin with. FFH makes Tony act OOC by creating a death machine that executes anything at a words command and making controls easily transferrable" You are demonstrably wrong. Tony's entire arc has been him wanting to create a "suit of armor around the world". He literally said that aloud twice in these films, and was his main point of contention with wanting to sign the Accords in Civil War. EDITH was another manifestation of the same idea he was trying to implement with Ultron. Do you even watch these films or are you half asleep in them? It's the MCU, the "U" standing for universe. Everything is connected, and everything matters. "As for Mysterio. He was a mere shadow of who he was supposed to be in the comics and even in the tv shows. I do realize some twists in the character’s origins have to made for modern day media but I feel they could’ve done anything than just making him an ex Stark employee" Yeah but this is an "issue" (if we're calling it one) for the entirety of the MCU, not Far From Home. Everything is connected to Tony. Vision doesn't exist without Stark. Wanda and Quicksilver are a thing because of Stark's weapons. The Mandarin is a thing because of Tony. Avengers tower is a repurposed Stark Industries building. Blaming Far From Home for things that the MCU has established is a weak criticism. The entirety of the MCU revolved around Stark for 10 years.

I been waiting for someone that agreed that Holland has been our best Spider-Man so far, for basically the exact same reasons you said! Even better coming from someone steeped in the comics

This could just be the nostalgia of seeing this movie on my birthday, and I know this is considered one of the worst Spider-man movies, but it will always have a special place in my heart. Also, the best part of this Spider-man series is the relationship between Peter and Gwen. Also-Also the only thing wrong with the clock tower scene is how much it broke nine year old me's heart

FINALlY! Someone finally said it! This movie rushed and shoehorned so many things that simply wasn't needed. Things like what they did with their version of so called “Green Goblin” Hell the suit was barely even green. And when Harry does become “Green Goblin” he barely in the movie long enough. They should have just simply have Electro be the main and only villain.

The TASM films were the first spider man films I saw in theaters, since I was too young to see Tobey in theaters, and I had a great time.

Also during the Times Square spider-sense sequence, didn't the first movie basically have the same kind of spider-sense sequence right before Flash tried to fight Peter? In other words, we have seen it do that before.
