At Aragog's funeral, Harry does bring up being scared of the spiders and the giant family in his seemingly high, liquid luck state. Hagrid wasn't there in the forest with them in Chamber of Secrets. Even in the movie, Aragog specifically said that his whole family didn't harm Hagrid by his command, but he was happy to have his family eat some young boys that weren't actually with Hagrid at the time. Hagrid only ever saw the good in Aragog. That's not a sin of any kind; that's different characters having different perspectives. Slughorn then also has his own perspective in only wanting the venom from the dead body with no emotional attachment. Nothing about that scene has any inconsistencies.

24:10, Trivia: The actor playing Malfoy Sr. was supposed to say a different magic word, but forgot and said the one that sounded like Abracadabra since that was the one he remembered. So, it was an actor forgetting their line that made the character even worse than the book version, but the director liked the mistake and kept it in.
@ermacmacro71362 жыл бұрын
Little more insight on this, the actor knew he was supposed to say a "Curse" but forgot what exactly he needed to say. He also at the time had read Goblet of Fire, so Avada Kedavra was fresh in his mind and he just improvised Lucius prepping the Killing Curse.
@MadisonChesney2 жыл бұрын
@@ermacmacro7136 And to add to that; this is the same scene in which Jason Isaacs AKA Lucius also improvised the abuse on Dobby as a whole, the director thought he tripped or something of the sort to which he replied "That was me kicking Dobby down the stairs and hitting him with my cane." Which the director decided to keep in, Jason truly brought Lucius Malfoy to life and even to this day still has a father/son relationship with Tom Felton.

Felix is SUPER rare and Slughorn was one of a very small number of wizards who could safely make it. Of course, Harry using it determines the outcome of the war a year later.

@EpicNerdsWithCameras2 жыл бұрын
Depending on how you approach it, this can definitely be an effective tool to get students thinking about the question being asked. When someone is asked a question which they don't know the answer to, the general instinct is to wonder what the actual answer is. The drive for learning becomes the student's curiosity, a form of intrinsic motivation, which is more effective than than just learning something because it's required of them. That being said, there are good and bad ways of doing this, and they all hinge on how you treat the student's lack of knowledge. Snape uses it as an excuse to belittle Harry, whereas I would assume that your father used it as a teaching moment and a chance to draw his students' interest.

@@LionWithAGun The only thing here is that Snape couldn't read what Harry had written, that Harry was the only one taking notes here, that what he was writting wasn't exactly necessary, being a presentation speech an not a lesson (so not something Snape would expect him or any other students to took notes of), and that poor Harry didn't contradict Snape when the later accused him of not paying attention (unless I forgot that part?), re-enforcing the teacher's belief that Harry was indeed just doodling. Harry didn't do anything wrong and Snape was too harsh, yes, but it's not too unreasonable for him, given in part his litteral point of view, to have concluded that Harry was not paying attention. Fans sometimes forget that characters don't share all the knowledge the readers do and I believe Snape is a particulary egregious example of that at times.

Here's my personal pet peeve with CinemaSins. They do provide funny content from time to time, but a lot of the sins amounts to indirectly calling the directors/screenwriter of the movies "lazy and unoriginal because I think plot bad". People can hate or love the Harry Potter franchise but to call something a "sin" on a movie section that was explained in the books doesn't feel like a "sin". They're also purposely leaving out a lot of context. To me, a sin in the franchise is the myriad of cut that was made to condense the HP franchise into seven film arcs as many important characters got scrapped in favor of amping the main characters importance in the screen. The infamous "Ron did that" is one of them. Or how Neville, Luna and other sub characters were major characters in the book. Draco's redemption in the book, so on. However I also understand movies have a strict time budget so while it was sad all of this was cut I also respect the director's decision. It is in no way "they lazy to fix plot". Only people that makes such comments have never been in the Film industry whatsoever. I can't watch CinemaSins for this reason. It feels like a shallow call out for quick "lol so true" laughtrack moment, without realizing it's not that true after all. And it happens so often I can't help but to eyeroll them. Context can go a long way in humor as well. Nice video.

Having watched only a little of Cinema Sins, I think a major problem they have is their idea that "logic" is the end goal of every movie. A movie is sinned if it supposedly isn't logical enough. According to that view, watching someone effortlessly solve math problems should be the height of cinema. Which isn't true at all. Most films- hell most fiction- is about conflict and tension, something that doesn't need very much logic. I feel there's this annoying subculture, not just in films but also in books and video games that proclaims "logic" and "realism" to be the greatest things ever in order to pump up their egos. Like the people complaining that The Last Jedi was illogical. As though the Star Wars movies don't run on rule of cool, with the Force and hyperspace and freaking plasma sword users dominating the battlefield when plasma guns are a dime a dozen. Then the "logic" nuts move the goal posts and claim they want internal consistency. They can't even stick to their own standards and are constantly conflating realism, logic, consistency and quality. People don't act 100% logically all the time, especially in stressful situations, which movies are full of. You can also be consistently unrealistic, like having archers be thin and willowy in medievalesque settings.

I think the only "Sins" I would give The Sorcerer's Stone are: - During the Chess scene, why would Ron get onto the knight piece? In the books it was explained that Harry, Ron and Hermione _were_ the chess pieces. But there's just a knight horse without the physical knight on it, could they not have commanded it to move, or been anywhere else on the chess piece to make it still move? - During the ending scene in the great hall, did the other students know about the chess scene? I could buy that they knew about Harry and Co. getting the stone, but a specific detail like the giant wizard chess board? How long was Harry out for that Ron could make this information commonly known? I could buy that he would brag about it to some of his friends, but the entire school knowing to a point where they could have context when Dumbledore awards points for "The greatest game of wizard chess ever played"? Imagine being a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw and dumbledore just shits all over your house because, as far as you know, Ron played chess one time. Shit man, us Ravenclaws are the only motherfuckers in the chess club! We got robbed!
@Cinemabu112 жыл бұрын
The characters HAD to act as chess pieces. In the film, when Ron was knocked off, Harry told Hermione not to move because they were still playing. What happened in the books is still present here. Th first two movies are damn near accurate the books, with many lines being word for word. Also, Dumbledore said that what happened was meant to be a secret, but it didn't stay one and the students found out. Hermione and Ron sent a letter to Dumbledore explaining everything that happened, which is how he, and by extension the school knew. I hoped that helped answer some questions.
@Arlondev2 жыл бұрын
@@Cinemabu11 Well yeah, I know they had to be the chess pieces, but why would Ron get onto the actual knight piece, or at the very least, onto the back of the horse? Couldn't he have stayed under the horse, where he couldn't have been stabbed? Or grabbed onto the tail and stood on the baseplate? I would buy that he's just a dumb kid and thought getting onto it would look cooler, Ron's definitely not a Ravenclaw, that's for sure As for the secrecy thing, I would buy that Dumbledore dropped hints about it. He seems like the kind of guy who would deliberately ensure that people know about it through constant hinting, though I still don't know if the other kids would've known so much details. I could buy that they were, like in the books, so excited at the downfall of Slytherin that even being granted points for a well-played game of chess would be cause enough for celebration, because at least Slytherin isn't winning.

There was another reason the other schools didn't take portkeys to Hogwarts - two actually. The first is that they used their means of conveyance as their temporary dorms for their stay at the school. The other being that you can't apparate in or out of Hogwarts using most conventional magical means without powerful magic nullifications, usually with the ministry of magic getting involved, to lower the schools defenses. Something that you can't just do for one form of magic generally, which would leave the school open to all varieties of magical infiltration during that window of vulnerability.

@MadisonChesney2 жыл бұрын
@@spencer6709 I think it's merely because Padfoot/Sirius had a one track mind of "GET THE RAT" since he had spent the last 12 years thinking about nothing but getting revenge on said rat after all, maybe just in all the chaos of the chase Paddy wasn't necessarily thinking of being careful of how hard he was grabbing Ron (plus he tells Ron that it was just him trying to get Pettigrew in the first place; not to attack/hurt him which was what ended up happening because Ron didn't know what was happening), since he was Hellbent on one thing only. (Plus unlike Moony without Wolfsbane he still has full control of his mind in his animagus form; hence his disposition as Padfoot being better.) But after everything settled down and he thought about what happened, he felt bad. Harry's his godson and that is his godson's best friend and he's a good man, he wants to make a good impression of himself for Harry and his friends of course. Just my two sense on that thought.

Something you din't mention in countering Jeremy's lack of understanding of wands when showing Ron's wand malfunctioning in Transfiguration, is Mcgonogall telling Ron that his wand needs replacing, which further supports the fact that it is up to the individual witch or wizard to replace broken or malfunctioning wands and not the school they go to.

The part he should have sinned in The Chamber of Secrets and didn't, at least I don't remember if he did, was the fact that Neville fainted because of the mandrakes, when herbology was always his best class. And one more thing, about the roosters being able to kill the basilisk, Tom used Ginny to kill all the roosters. Pretty sure that's in the movie as well as the book.
