The problem with the recent trilogy is that the denizens of Haddenfield are traumatized the way they are. Michael only murdering for that one night didn't warrant the cloud of doom over the town that was represented in Halloween Kills.

We'd be better off with an update on the effect of the killings at Crystal Lake, a way to justify the grand reopening of the Camp PLUS the addition of a mashup between Jason and Kane Hodder's other he-man slasher Victor Crowley and it would still be better than Halloween Kills.

It wasn't just for the one night. He killed Judith in the 60s, then broke out and killed 5 more people in the 70s, then attacked again in the 2010s and killed far, far more people. I think the trauma of this in a small town is totally justified within the films.

Halloween movies really missed out on what could have been a much better movie series than Friday the 13th. The idea of Michael Meyers was so great and it feels like I'm supposed to love it, but it just drags and was done a huge injustice.

Halloween is my favorite horror franchise because I like the idea that there isn't a real reason why he kills but it's always implied that he's basically an incel. This is basically confirmed any time a woman so much as shifts the mask away from his face. What's also relatively consistent is the men who pose the biggest threat to him are the ones who get the worst deaths, especially if they fight back. I really like this aspect of his character because despite the physicality of his character, it shows a level of humanity to him in terms of him being insecure. The primary issue, and what contradicts why I love the franchise, is that he has kill patterns and there isn't a source for them existing. Going deeper, all of his kills (except in the Rob Zombie run) stem from him murdering his sister. Also the implication is always an issue of morality on Michael's end. So her having underage sex was deserving of death? Ok. But where did he get this ideology from? There's never been any mentions of his family being super religious, not even so much as attending a church service. In Rob Zombie's run, everybody in his family was either morally bankrupt or was doing something societally unacceptable, which explains the the stepfather and the sister. But why let his mother survive? Because she was nice to him? She had no control over her family, she allowed the stepfather in their home, and her job causes issues at his school. It doesn't make sense. In this last run, it never gets expanded on, and with the retcon of every movie after the first it makes the story feel unfinished. Back to kill patterns, why does he have them if there is no definitive reason for them? Why even bother having them in all of these movies if it's never explained?
