Most people thought BvS was going to kill at the box office, and with good reason. It's Batman and Superman in the same movie for the first time ever. The initial success of BvS was frontloaded because the bad word of mouth killed it's overall total.

Oh, sure, it's not like Marvel has had crossovers of other classic characters in their films, and it's not like those crossovers have been executed so much better than DC's films. Clearly DC is so much better than Marvel! Just take a look at the critical reception of Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League! Sarcasm aside, I thought Justice League was more or less good. Not on the level of The Avengers, but good.

I’d like to offer a response to one of your “missed nitpicks.” Probably the reason Zemo reads the trigger words so slowly is because he doesn’t speak Russian (the way he practiced the words suggests he was learning them phonetically), and he needs to make sure he pronounces the words correctly. In fact, you demonstrated this yourself when you mispronounced all the words.

yes and no, in the scene, zemo is acting as if he's in total control because bucky is in that cage thing, but the same scene implies that bucky could eventually smash the cage from the inside with a little time. if zemo was concerned about saying the words correctly, he would be more focused on the book, or maybe even a little nervous. instead he's giving the vibe that he's taunting bucky because he's in the process of gaining complete control over him, with confidence.

There is one point I would like to make about a missed nitpick. There is a reason Falcon would wait to deploy his wings. He's trying to gain momentum in an urban environment. What that means is that if he deploys his wings too early he can't get up to speed properly and it's hard to maneuver at low speed and in an urban environment and that's dangerous because you need enough velocity to avoid hitting any buildings and to avoid any winds or updratfs. Real falcons, hawks and eagles (that is the raptors) actually do this exact same thing when pouncing on their prey. They will drop, while keeping their wings pulled back, until the last possible minute to hit their prey with enough force to stun them and then spread their wings and star flapping. Hell, skydivers actually wait till they are within a certain distance of the ground before deploying their chutes because if they do it too early they risk getting grabbed by wind and air currents and getting pulled in a direction they don't want to go or having their chute collapse. So that is actually based on real world aerodynamics.
@10thletter40

I was going to say this but looks like I don't have to. Last thing he needs is to pull the wings out early and stall. I'm sure firing rockets and fuel and the sort wastefully should be avoided
@king_supreme1102
@king_supreme1102 2 жыл бұрын
That was my initial thought as well. However, his “wings” are basically just a jet pack with wings, right? He doesn’t use the wings to propel him into the air. Otherwise he would be flapping them constantly like flying mammals do. If he has a jet pack, momentum is essentially irrelevant because you’re gonna get all the momentum you need from the rocket on your back lol.

The absolutely masterful Kid Who Collects Spider-Man contains this explanation, though I got it slightly wrong: the button is specifically placed so that it doesn't go off when he makes a fist, the double-tap is incidental (but in my opinion still crucial for explaining how he's able to lift things without it triggering.) I don't know if that was the first time it was mentioned (my gut says it got explained in a Ditko issue,) but that's where I first heard it.

I was coming down here to make this comment, but let me help with the details: It's in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #4 (1967), by the way (so it's post-Ditko--Romita, Sr-era. Yay!) and it actually *does* say that the double tap is the actual exact reason, so you weren't wrong (the feature is called "What the Well-Dressed Spider-Man Will Wear", and is sort of a sequel to the Ditko/Lee-era Annual #1 feature, "The Secrets of Spider-Man", which deals more with his spider-induced powers): "To prevent accidental firing when making a fist, it is necessary to touch the release button *twice* , in a pre-programmed, pre-set pattern! If you've short, stubby fingers, forget it!" (it also goes on to mention what causes different webs--basically, the second press's length varies how it's extruded in a number of fashions)

(Potentially) explaining missed nitpick: Spidey's webshooters actually function like a high pressure mouse button in the comics. To fire a web, he double taps the pressure sensitive trigger in his palm like when you double click a mouse. Depending on how long he holds one of the clicks also gives different results, like a wide net versus a thin line. This is why he doesn't accidentally shoot a web when making a fist or catching one. CinemaSins has a long and chequered history of looking at how something plays out and then assuming that it's the *only* way it could have *possibly* played out and therefore whatever series of events occurred must have been "part of the villain's plan" - like the villain can't think on their feet and alter the plan when things change. If Cap, Bucky and Tony hadn't followed him hard on his heels to Siberia, Zemo would have made a clean getaway and then could have made sure the tape was made known to Iron Man at a time that would ensure maximum disruption. As it happens, they caught up with him so he made the best of the situation and distracted them from following him by unleashing the tape, knowing that it would foment discord between at least Tony and Bucky and that Cap would most likely protect Bucky, pitting him against Tony. The plan didsn't even *need* the Sokovia Accords to work - the contents of the tape were enough to put Tony and Cap at odds with one another. The Sokovia Accords _already_ putting them on opposite sides of a contentious issue was just another nail in the coffin - one for which Zemo was probably extremely grateful and he made full use of it. After all, Tony and Cap might have agreed about the Accords (either for or against, wouldn't matter) and both be at odds with _other_ team members over them. The goal was the tape that would set those two main players against each other, regardless of which side of the Accords debate they came down on. This is not the only time CinemaSins has looked at a villain's plan and said "but how could X know they would do that" when "that" wasn't the only thing that would have led to the same outcome. But, nah, to CinemaSins, every last thing that happened was part of an *extremely convoluted plan* that relied _entirely_ on Cap and Tony being on opposite sides of the Accords and them catching up with him at _exactly_ that time and place. Oh, and the Accords happened _after_ Lagos, therefore they were _because of_ Lagos - the same "logic" that says that because I found my lost keys after I tripped over the cat, I only found them _because_ I tripped over the cat and therefore the next time I lose my keys I should deliberately trip over the cat... Of course Zemo knew that the Accords were coming well in advance (they're the _Sokovia_ Accords, not the _Lagos_ Accords) and would presume that there would be a division amid the Avengers. He could not _know_ that Tony and Cap would pick separate sides, but it wouldn't matter if they didn't because he had a contingency plan that he was sure would pit them against each other. Getting all ultra specific and wondering how Zemo knew all the minutiae that would happen is just silly. Zemo wanted the Hydra agent to tell him about the Mission. That failed. He then engineered framing Bucky so that it would spark a man-hunt that resulted in his capture so that he could use the book to find out about the Mission. Once he had that he headed off and got the tape that would set Tony and Cap at odds. That was his plan - and he timed it so that it happened at a time when the Avengers were likely to be divided over the Sokovia Accords for maximum damage. Everything else that happened was just icing on the cake for him. If the Hydra agent had cracked, Zemo would have got the tape without Bucky needing to be caught and _still_ would have driven a wedge between Tony and Cap. Zemo made it quite clear to both the Hydra agent and Bucky that he'd rather do this the easy way but the Hydra agent staying silent forced him to get the info out of Bucky - Jeremy must have been asleep or texting on his phone during those parts of the movie.

Bucky was yelling, sirens were going off, and Bucky was stuck behind bulletproof glass, which he was pounding on. When I first discovered CinemaSins, I thought it would be fun and refreshing to see someone pick apart the ways filmmakers treat audiences like they're stupid. A few of his"sins" I disagreed with, but fine. I don't have to agree on everything. Then I noticed I was disagreeing with a LOT of his"sins." He was sinning things that were actually addressed in the movies. He was sinning good filmmaking. He was misusing movie terminology. This is that jerk who is convinced he has everything figured out but doesn't, yet won't stop talking. I don't mean just movies-- i'm sure if you met him at a party, he would carry on about world politics, explaining everything in a way that is just SO OBVIOUS to him-- I mean, come one! Why are all these experts doing so many stupid things, when he can figure out the answer in 3 seconds? Yet his easy answer doesn't take into account the nuances of the situation and the way things work in the real world. He needs to feel smarter than the experts, even when he isn't. Apply that attitude to movies and you have CinemaSIns.

Just to address the 'Zemo knowing about the Sokovia accords' sin...he doesn't even need to know about them for his plan... He requires Bucky getting captured, getting in to interrogate/brainwash Bucky (wherever he gets held) and then just acquiring the file and sending it to Tony or whatever dramatic reveal he initially planned. To get Bucky captured he didn't need to bomb the signing of the Sokovia accords, that is just the cherry on top, he could have bombed anywhere and framed Bucky. He'd probably have preferred to sneak into a normal police station in Bucharest... The whole 'Civil War' could just be a happy coincidence that helps further the tension between Steve and Tony that makes his final move even better. Steve and Tony fighting would have been enough to split the Avengers, especially if one ended up murdering the other. This plan does not require planning the Avenger's fuck up at the beginning or causing a fight in an airport, the Avengers did that all themselves. Arguably the Sokovia accords could have even hindered his plan if Tony and Steve had restrictions on them, potentially cutting Tony off from access to his suits and so on. Hell, Steve, Tony and Sam being present at Bucky's interrogation could have fucked his plan up completely, he'd probably prefer if they weren't there thanks to the accords. If anything this makes him a better villain. He has a good plan that can be changed on the fly and he is good at adapting to a developing situation such as Steve and Tony arriving at the silo and so on. He obviously wasn't planning to wait in that sealed room for them at the end, unless he was planning to starve to death if they arrived a few days late, I didn't see a packed lunch in there...

His original plan(I can't remember if theirs a timeframe) was just to get the info from that one Hydra officer. If he has spilled the location, Zemo would have avoided the bombing. But because the guy didn't, Zemo had to pick an event to cause the most attention. The UN was a good one for so many reasons. Get's to Bucky to get the location.
@Flaris
@Flaris 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Zemo didn't need the Accords to exist. If he got the information from that Hydra Agent then he can immediately skip to the point where he gets the tapes, gets those tapes to Iron Man, and sets Iron Man off. The Accords allowed for things to only get worse and for his plan to be even more effective. But it doesn't require the Accords. He has a strong overall plan. And he has the ability to adjust that plan depending on circumstances. That doesn't mean he has this super complicated plan. Just that he has the skills and knowledge to adjust his plan. Because he has the basic parts of the plan in mind. 1. Find out where those tapes are, 2. Get those tapes to Iron Man, 3. Sit back and watch.
@Rpgonzo13
@Rpgonzo13 6 жыл бұрын
I'm glad there are more people out there that realize this. All the reviews of the movie, while positive, felt the need to claim that Zemo's plan was overcomplicated, but for some reason they just assumed that everything that happened in the movie was part of Zemo's plan, which it wasn't. Also, while I wasn't a fan of BvS, I saw people doing similar things when complaining about Lex's plan in that movie. Just because a plan ultimately proves successful doesn't mean that everything leading up to that success was a part of the plan.
@turbonerdo6838
@turbonerdo6838 6 жыл бұрын
Well, Lex's plan is entirely different. Instead of being an intelligent planner who uses his resources carefully and constantly adapts to a changing situation, Lex is a bumbling idiot with infinite resources who has figured out everything and his plan revolves around unlikely hoods and things out of his control. Example, Batman stealing the kryptonite. Lex did not need that kryptonite, as he already had access to some for use in Zods dissection. And he needed Batman to fight Superman, so he must have known that Batman needed kryptonite. Yet he did absolutely nothing to prompt Batman to steal the kryptonite, as Bruce steals the data by himself, decodes it by himself, and uses that information to find out where the kryptonite is being transported, and lex somehow knows he’s done this even though it’s never shown that he found out the files were stolen. Whereas with Zemo all the events are irrelevant to his plan, with lex the events are crucial to his plan, and the fact that he is able to plan for things that he’s has knowledge of makes it completely unrealistic and unbelievable.

Another thing, Zemo's original plan was to just get the information on the Siberia base from the former Hydra goon at the beginning. If that guy had told him everything from the start, he probably would've just gotten to the base and released the footage to the Avengers from that point. The Russo Bros actually explain why they had the plot play out like this in behind the scenes footage. They couldn't have Tony learning about Bucky killing his parents be the inciting incident because either Tony would eventually calm down and understand Bucky wasn't in control or if he didn't they'd end up portraying Tony as a straight up villain which they didn't want to do.

Nope. This is Tony we're talking about. He knew about the plan of Zemo, and was ready to forgive Cap & Bucky. Plus I believe BP spoke to him earlier as well. He should have been ready, and he knew the consequences of falling into the mind trap of getting he and cap to destroy each other. Plus he at least knew Steve Rodgers, and again, this is calm cool cold calculating Tony Stark here, not hothead batman. It really is as bad as BvS, maybe worse.

20:00 Hmmm... let us see... Perhaps he has a sensor in that button that can distinguish two fingers from a fist? Like, register the different type of pressure points? And before saying this would be impossible: Remember that this is a film with 2 guys in Robo-suits, a AI with laser beams, flight and much, a guy with superhuman strength and a shield that can absorb and deflect any kind of (kinetic) energy, a guy that can grow and shrink, a girl with mental powers and not forget a guy with a robot-arm... So realism here can be a bit less imo.

As the scepter is the vessel for the mind stone, it could be inferred that the scarlet witch's powers are derived from the mind stone, and not real magic. Then again, we don't know the details of the experiments. Maybe the mind stone was used on her to unlock an already strong talent for Magic.

tearak Considering the Sony/Disney business deal, this might actually pave the way to bringing mutants into the MCU. I can’t see them properly making the twins Magneto’s kids, but having an infinity stone unlock mutant abilities and have Scarlet Witch bridge the gap to bring the Xmen in would be neat. The Avengers are trying to understand Wanda’s powers, how they relate to the Mind stone aka Vision, and an explanation of “its more than radiation/exposure, its actually the X gene unlocked!” occurs. Then as with Wakanda, the Avengers learn despite being superheros there is a still a lot of super stuff the world barely knows about that they can still discover.

There's missing information when watching the movie, and then there is being this clueless about simple human empathy. It makes me feel like the Cinema Sins is some kinda of weird hipster robot built to ascertain KZbin views from gullible idiots.

ExtrematronYT so I disagree with you on this one. I think yes, you would be mad if someone killed your parents, but if you gave it clearer thought, and know that the killer was not in control you would only be mad at them for a short time. Then start to shift your blame to to people who did the mind controlling.

For the missed nitpick at 20:56 I'm assuming for the web shooters to go off, a very specific bit of pressure needs to be put on a very specific part of the glove and nowhere else, which is why they never go off when he makes a fist. I'm going based off of what was said in the 1994 series

This is a great video but at 24:04 Jeremy actually makes a good point because the scene before Tony tries to get information from his locked up friends Ross was scolding Tony for the fight and even said "You're lucky you're not in one of those cells"

Doesn’t Tony, in his jet, make it so the jet goes one way while he iron man’s out the ass to go the opposite direction, but T’Challa was following him

It's funny because all of the missed nitpicks could have and should have been used as sins in the original video
