Once, I went to read the bible out of curiosity. I started with the very very beginning, genesis. I didn't go very far due to the sheer absurdity of the story. I remember stopping after the story of a character who got drunk and fell asleep naked in a tent, then was found by one of his kids, and then somehow the kid was punished for finding him in that unflattering position that he put himself in. After that I lost quite a bit of respect for whoever bases their life decisions on this book.

Canaan already existed before Ham saw Noah's nakedness. And the book absolutely *never* says that Noah was with or had Sex with his wife. Why would someone randomly add that he just got laid? The book literally says he got drunk with wine until he got wasted, in his drunk Ness he got naked and then was seen by Canaan. Nothing about sex or else.

I think you couldn't have described my experience better. I had promised myself I'd listen to the Bible while working, just for sake of reading it at least once in my life and 2 hours ago I started listening to it (was raised catholic but didn't believe nor practiced it since very young, I had trouble believing anything). And you just said exactly what happened to me, I just couldn't habdle the stupidity. It sound like a fantasy story written by a 9yo srsly. After I seized to be offended by the realization of how I had just wasted 2 hours of my life, I realized that people back then were very ignorant and their vision of things came from not knowing. Ie: how God created the universe (completely earth centric as if the earth is the beginning of everything). Etc It's such a waste of my time, there's no way I'm finishing it. There are tons of books that could actually teach me something or at least be fun... Star wars is waaay better fantasy.

@@aristola4116 why would "saw his father's nakedness" actually mean "have sex with his own mother"? If that's a euphemism, it's a terrible one. I don't believe you because that simply does not make sense. Unless we somehow have other examples of ancient literature where such a phrase means "having sex with your mother". But I highly doubt that, because in any other piece of literature, when a euphemism is used, first of all you can usually decipher what it means (but in that case it sounds completely nonsensical), and it always makes sense in context. But in this case it doesn't at all, because the next part of the story is that the drunk guy's other children come to cover him up because he was naked. How do you explain that? How does that relate to the son supposedly fucking his mother? It very much sounds like the passage was meant to be taken literally, because if we add in your euphemism the story becomes incoherent. My friend, it sounds like your teacher told you "it's a euphemism" as an excuse to completely change the meaning of the story to make it make more sense to you so you wouldn't doubt the bible. Have you heard the phrase "thought-terminating cliché"? I encourage you to look out for those things. They are phrases that are designed to make you stop thinking for yourself when your logical thoughts take you away from the doctrine being imposed upon you. Phrases like "god works in mysterious ways". In your case, it sounds like "it's a euphemism" was one of those tactics used to make you stop questioning. And it's not right. You should be free to fully explore your own thoughts on any topic you want. Edit: here is the story, for reference. It doesn't make more sense if we add in Noah's wife having sex with her son. In fact it makes much less sense. And Noah's wife was mentioned in other parts of the story. Surely, if your interpretation is right and the bible if the perfect word of god, then it would be understandable to all, and it would at least mention Noah's wife in the story so we would know she's involved. Also, I did get something wrong. It's not even Noah's son who gets punished. It's his grandson who didn't do anything wrong. Do you really want to get your sense of justice from this book? Genesis 9 New International Version The Sons of Noah 18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) 19 These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the whole earth. 20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. 21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father’s naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked. 24 When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, 25 he said, “Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers.” 26 He also said, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. 27 May God extend Japheth’s[b] territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.”

I've been teaching in colleges at all levels for many years now. From ivy League to community colleges with open enrollment. You would be surprised just how many people are not capable of getting very far with critical reasoning skills and knowledge acquisition. I needed to adjust my expectations a couple times. We all have a very strong distorting bias regarding what we consider to be the normal range of human intelligence. No one can fathom what it is like to have an intellect substantially higher than their own. But it also works the other way around. None of us can imagine what it is like to inhabit the mind of someone with a significantly lower intelligence than our own. This is why both true intellectual disability and true genius can be extremely socially isolating. My point: it isn't necessarily religion stunting development. We don't like to say it out loud, but some people really are simply "stunted.". The question for the rest of us is if we are willing to let them be manipulated, used and deceived.

As someone interested in the classification of living things, it is appalling to me that they imply that birds, fish, livestock, "creatures that move along the ground", and humans are different from animals. And anything that doesn't fit into any other category is apparently a "creature that moves along the ground", whatever that means. They also don't mention Fungi, Bacteria, Archaea, or Protista at all, and treat plants as if they are not living things. Another point: Angiosperms, or flowering plants, evolved in the Cretaceous period, long after other kinds of plants. Creation myths are infuriating.

It's astonishing that any modern-day person could read the Genesis creation myth and not instantly shrug it off as *ridiculous in the extreme.* And since there *never was* a Garden of Eden/Adam and Eve - and therefore no "fall of man/original sin" and subsequent need of redemption/a "savior" - the entire raison d'etre and foundation of all three Abrahamic religions utterly disintegrates into *meaningless absurdity.* Just one glaring example: In the Genesis creation myth, the sun wasn't created until the 4th day - so how were they measuring "days"? If some imaginary, man-invented god couldn't even get his own creation project correct, then why should anyone believe or trust anything else "he" (supposedly) proclaims or does? Of course, Genesis was written by primitive, ignorant, superstitious men with a nefarious tribal agenda who knew virtually nothing vis à vis science, biology, geology, cosmology, anthropology, etc., etc.

@Winston Grettum Evolution is the theory of how living organisms change, not how life originated, abiogenesis is the hypothesis of how life arose through complex chemical processes in complex environments. Evolution is not new, its been known that populations speciate over vast time, most notably when we domesticated wild species, they change through selective breeding, then the mechanism for how nature does it was discovered by Charles Darwin in 1859, natural selection and then it was debated thoroughly and mountains upon mountains of evidence have come since, including an entirely new field of science, genetics, with the discovery of DNA, which is the strongest field of evidence for evolution, it provides the heritability mechanism and so much more like Endogenous Retro viral DNA insertions in the DNA which shows how closely related species are and is definitive evidence for common ancestry.

@Winston Grettum Yes an amazing programmer but also a very flawed 1, tons of copies of the same genes, lots of non coding dna, tons of endoginous retro viral dna in there and genes are a tangled mess etc and the way the dna has been modified through a grand process of reproduction and mass death, countless organism don't make it to birth, countless organisms don't make it to reproductive age, the struggle for survival is brutal, if i was to attribute this process to a conscious being, i would call them cruel and wasteful, yes it can produce astonishing complexity but the vast amount of death and suffering the process produces is unfathomable.

Not defending the Bible but you probably would not have seen birth defects that early on. You only get birth defects when you have defective genes. @Jubei Yang dude, I said I wasnt defending the Bible. I was just pointing out that you only have genetic problems with inbreeding if you have bad genetics. Lots of farmers and reptile breeders will inbreed their animals without problems and they actually use it to see if they have any hidden defects. If the parents don't have any defective genes then it is highly unlikely offspring will untill they develope a mutation. Inbreeding doesn't cause defects just because it's inbreeding. Inbreeding increases the rate at which a defective gene will pair up with another defective gene.

You missed a gold opportunity to points out that the Bible says that outer space is full of water. On the second day, when he created the “sky”, he did it by separating the waters of Earth from the waters of outer space, putting that “vault” (our atmosphere) between them. Outer space being full of water is kooky dukes.
@meandepiphany3 жыл бұрын
Not really that kooky, even secular scientist believe there's a medium through which light and sound travel. They call it aether. It's the basis for the experiments behind the theory of relativity and of special relativity. Besides, when we breathe out on a cold day we can see the water in the air.
@robertmccully27923 жыл бұрын
does no say outer space,,, there are trillions of pounds of water in the air, if there was not everything would die. Just saying.
@TheVirtualTim3 жыл бұрын
@@meandepiphany Scientists don't believe in the luminiferous aether anymore. It was suspected once it was shown that light traveled as a wave (the double-slit experiment) and up to that point, all waves required some medium (e.g. sound travels through air, water, etc.). Christiaan Huygens suggested it to provide the 'medium' for light waves. It was basically a place-holder for something not yet understood. The Michaelson-Morley experiment in 1887 (considered perhaps the greatest null-result of all time) set out to detect the aether. Their experiment was far more sensitive than it needed to be in order to detect it ... but failed. Today it is now understood that there is no aether. But moreover, the experiment showed that light always travels at the same speed (in a vacuum) for all observers ... even if one source of light is stationary and another is moving. Earth's velocity as it travels around the Sun is roughly 30 km/sec. This means for part of the year we are moving 'toward' some stars at 30 km/sec and 6 months later we are moving 'away' from those same stars at 30 km/sec ... yet the measured speed of light from those stars (which should measure a 60 km/sec difference) always works out to the same speed. This had consequences regarding the nature of time -- which cannot flow at the same rate for everyone in all situations. That leads to Special Relativity which linked light to the other laws of mechanics and unifies space and time into 'spacetime' (one word for one thing) ... shortly followed by General Relativity which also linked in gravity.

@bazcuda3 жыл бұрын
That theory is borne out by the manuscripts. There are several different versions of the stories from several sources, all combined into what became the book of Genesis: the Yahwist (Y/J), the Elohist (E), and the Priestly (P) versions of the written stories, plus others. Whoever put Genesis together simply wanted to preserve all the written versions of the "oral traditions" and had no concern for the contradictions the various versions had with each other, hence the two creation stories, the two conflicting sets of 10 commandments, etc.

A reasonable theory. The ancient Torah was a collection of oral tradition that was written down, and it was not & is not now intended to be taken literally. Once the early Christian church was elevated by Constantine, the church establishment set about codifying their disparate beliefs - and some sources were rejected. Then ppl were brought into the fold by adopting their pagan traditions. The Catholic Church & its offshoots now represent a general human culture, while the rejected traditions represent hidden information that only few can appreciate.

Evil God Of Bible. Here's a list of bible verses that make one wonder just what sort of God. Christians give their lives to in sincere patronage to what they call 'Holy'. If Anyone who claims to admire and worship the biblical God has either abandoned all sense of moral judgment or has never actually read the Old Testament. Since most believers are good people, I prefer to assume the latter. I think the world would be a much better place if people would actually read the book. A.A. Milne, author of Winnie the Pooh, said: "The Old Testament is responsible for more atheism, agnosticism, disbelief - call it what you will - than any book ever written; it has emptied more churches than all the counterattractions of cinema, motor bicycle and golf course." Before we can cure an illness we have to diagnose it. 17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. (No one can Abolish Any laws of Bible old Testament or any kind) Matthew 5:17 "So the assembly sent 12,000 of their best warriors to Jabesh-gilead with orders to kill everyone there, including women and children. “This is what you are to do,” they said. “Completely destroy[a] all the males and every woman who is not a virgin.” Among the residents of Jabesh-gilead they found 400 young virgins who had never slept with a man, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh in the land of Canaan." Judges 21:10-24 NLT- Obviously these women were repeatedly raped. These sick bastards killed and raped an entire town and then wanted more virgins, so they hid beside the road to kidnap and rape some more. How can anyone see this as anything but evil? 10. God destroys a good family 'for no reason.' God made a bet with Satan that Job, a good and blameless man, would remain faithful even if he killed his children and ruined his life. Here we see God indicting himself for the crime, openly confessing that he destroyed a family "for no reason." "The Lord said to Satan, 'Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on the Earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and turns away from evil. He still persists in his integrity, although you incited me against him, to destroy him for no reason.' " (Job 2:3 New Revised Standard Bible) 9. God destroys the fetuses of those who do not worship him. This is not the only feticidal passage in the bible, but it is the worst: "You shall acknowledge no God but me. . . . You are destroyed, Israel. . . . The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open." (Hosea 13:4, 9, 16 New International Version) 8. God approves the massacre of a peaceful people so one of his tribes could have a place to live. Most believers think God destroyed the Canaanites because they were depraved and immoral, although the bible does not make that claim. They were killed - and labeled "evil" and "wicked" - simply because they did not worship him. Here is a group of people who did nothing wrong. They were "at peace and secure," but they had to be eliminated. "And in those days the tribe of the Danites was seeking a place of their own where they might settle, because they had not yet come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel. . . . Then they said to [the priest], 'Please inquire of God to learn whether our journey will be successful.' The priest answered them, 'Go in peace. Your journey has the Lord's approval.' . . . Then they took what Micah had made, and his priest, and went on to Laish, against a people at peace and secure. They attacked them with the sword and burned down their city. . . . The Danites rebuilt the city and settled there." (Judges 18:1-28 NIV) The Canaanites were not the evildoers. The Israelites were the invaders! 7. Babies are slaughtered and wives raped. The murderous Old Testament deity deemed human life to be worthless, placing his own megalomaniacal glory above human values. Here is one of the worst examples: "See, the day of the Lord is coming - a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger. . . . I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty. . . . Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated." (Isaiah 13:9-16 NIV) 6. A mixed-race couple is murdered by a godly priest to keep God's people pure. The righteous priest Phinehas murdered a loving couple for the crime of miscegenation. Then he was praised by God and rewarded for the hate crime with a perpetual priesthood for keeping the nation racially pure. "Just then one of the Israelites came and brought a Midianite woman into his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the Israelites. When Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he got up and left the congregation. Taking a spear in his hand, he went after the Israelite man into the tent, and pierced the two of them, the Israelite and the woman, through the belly. So the plague was stopped among the people of Israel. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 'Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the Israelites by manifesting such zeal among them on my behalf that in my jealousy I did not consume the Israelites. Therefore say, "I hereby grant him my covenant of peace. It shall be for him and for his descendants after him a covenant of perpetual priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the Israelites.' '" (Numbers 25:6-13 NRSV) 5. A daughter is burned as an acceptable sacrifice to God. General Jephthah made a vow with God in order to defeat the enemy. When Jephthah won the war, God received his hundred pounds of flesh. "And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord: 'If you give the Ammonites into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the Lord's, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.' . . . When Jephthah returned to his home in Mizpah, who should come out to meet him but his daughter, dancing to the sound of timbrels! . . . After the two months, she returned to her father, and he did to her as he had vowed." (Judges 11:30-39 NIV) After burning his daughter, Jephthah was rewarded with a prestigious judgeship and was later buried with honor. 4. The cannibalistic God makes people eat human flesh. There are nine passages in the Old Testament where God makes cannibalistic threats. Here is the worst one: "And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat." (Leviticus 26:27-29 King James Version) 3. God threatens rape, then takes credit for it. This passage was new to me, and it blew me away. I guess I had only read it before in the King James Version, where the sexual molestation is not obvious. Here it is in the NRSV, where the Israelites were asking why they were being attacked by the Babylonians: "Hear and give ear; do not be haughty, for the Lord has spoken. . . . And if you say in your heart, 'Why have these things come upon me?' it is for the greatness of your iniquity that your skirts are lifted up, and you are violated . . . because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies. I myself will lift up your skirts over your face, and your shame will be seen." (Jeremiah 13:15-26 NRSV) "Skirts lifted up" is sexual assault. "Violate" is rape. The King James Version has the quaint "heels made bare," which obscures the sexual assault. Notice that the "iniquity" for which they were being raped was not immorality or depravity; it was simply because "you have forgotten me." 2. God threatens sexual molestation. The Lord will harass attractive uppity women by exposing their private parts. "Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts." (Isaiah 3:16-17 KJV) The New International Version covers up this embarrassing passage with "make their scalps bald" in place of "discover their secret parts [Hebrew: poth = vagina]." Other translations are more honest: The Orthodox Jewish Bible has "lay bare their nakedness," Amplified Bible "stripped naked," Complete Jewish Bible "expose their private parts," Common English Version "uncover their private parts," and Living Bible "expose their nakedness for all to see." Even if "daughters of Zion" is a metaphor for Israel, it is a metaphor of sexual assault. 1. God wants you to be happy to dash babies against the rocks. I have always thought this was the worst verse in the bible, and my opinion remains unchanged. "O daughter Babylon, you devastator! Happy shall they be who pay you back what you have done to us! Happy shall they be who take your little ones and dash them against the rock!"(Psalm 137:8-9 NRSV) God was not merely saying that regrettable collateral damage might occur during wartime. He said believers should be happy - some translations say "blessed" - to kill innocent babies of those who are keeping you from worshipping your own god. How can Jesus(which Never exist)save any body..even he did not save himself..dead Zombie on cross....😈

@@philiplim2078 50% correct 👍🏾 Take in consideration that YHWH is NOT the only one in heaven. @curious9682 жыл бұрын
@@philiplim2078 Well, that's what the monotheist apologists claim. But, the Bible amply testifies, albeit in muted tones, to the ongoing polytheism of the ancient Israelites. For instance: There's a lot of talk, by the winners who wrote our existing text, the monotheists, about how this and that king "did evil in the sight of the lord." In a lot of cases, it was because the king was deficient about taking down something called "Asherah poles". Scholars have reconstructed this as a goddess, Asherah, who was widely worshipped as Yahweh's consort. Not at all remarkable for the times. Even if you don't accept that, it was obvious that Yahweh had lots of competition for a very long time. The history of the kings of Israel consists of little else than the chronicle of that struggle. Solomon was a polytheist, or at least tolerated it, which means it continued well past the end of the northern kingdom. Many people in the Bible have names indicative of all kinds of gods besides Yahweh or Elohim. There's plenty of polytheism in the Bible (angles, are, in fact, demi-gods by any reasonable definition of the term, just for starters). So, whether you are right about "Elohim" or it is just an excuse invented by apologists, the plain fact is, there was lots of polytheism in ancient Israel. They just lost out over time, that's all. But the many echoes of polytheism that were not purged show that Elohim accurately reflects what many in Israel believed before the Babylonian captivity.

You are very adept with scientific knowledge and a good speaker. I used to shake my fist at God and the Bible, but God supernaturally gave me new life in Christ many years ago. I view the Bible differently now. In Job 38:4, God asks Job, "Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me if you have understanding." He then goes on a long discourse questioning Job some more. Finally, in Job 42:5, Job says, "I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore, I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." I encourage you to read that entire passage and think about the possibility that one day you may have to answer to the same God. "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."--Hebrews 10:31 (ESV) If you want an example of a life radically changed by an encounter with God, Read Acts Chapter 9. The Bible is a story much like that. People often have been trying to ignore God or to make him in their own image, but God wouldn't let them. I wish you all the best on your journey in life.

@@lerozalico4753 Why? Because the stories are written with the knowledge at the time of writing, not inspired by some higher existence. Example: line 1: let there be light (where does the light come from?), two days later (what's a day, if the sun is not moving through the sky?) sun (finally, a star, source of light!, moon (not a source of light but a reflector of the sun) and stars (not 'holes in the sky, but just a lot more stars like our sun) are created. If the bible really was inspired by the Creator, how can there be so many errors in one page? If this section was written by 'just a guy like you and me' it makes perfectly sense - in that time. If you go though the books you can find this type of inconsistencies and lack of knowledge in almost every single page. The reasonable explanation is: 'it's just phantasy'. Note: the bible being made up and written by humans, not inspired by some higher power does not proof that God does not, or cannot exist, only that the bible is not written by his instructions.

As far as "separating the light from darkness," in verse 4, it says GOD separated them, but in verse 18, He creates the SUN and MOON to do that job. At least, that's the understanding that jumped out at me...
@davidrichmond213 жыл бұрын
No light is created before the Sun.
@alexwhite23303 жыл бұрын
@@davidrichmond21 Right, but that's not what I was speaking about. If I took it further: The "light" mentioned wasn't "A" light, or "THE" light...it was just simply "light"...(and "darkness"), not necessarily 'caused' by anything other than the spoken word of the creator. I think the scripture is implying that God placed the sun and moon as the means by which "light" and "darkness" were separated. In order for there to be what we perceive as "light," there first has to be the "concept" of light. Otherwise, we wouldn't know what to call it. So, I think the scripture is implying God created the "concept" of light (and darkness) FIRST... and He THEN created something to keep them separated. I'm just trying to say, you CAN explain some of this stuff where it makes sense, otherwise it would be TOO obviously fiction and no one would believe it. So, while arguing that something doesn't make sense, at least TRY to make it make sense to yourself before just ruling it out altogether. There are a number of logical and sensible reasons why people believe. It's not ALL just easily thrown away as fairytale.

Exactly, stories were written with no idea that one day science would unravel many of these notions. But human self-importance is highly addictive and contagious, God creates man in Gods image. Odd that in what respect could humans be considered 'god' like .hairy, belligerent, jealous?.. of course if God were created in mans image it makes more sense. What a ruse, we are in charge, the rules we give you were given to us by God, and we interpret the rules on your behalf, that you must obey or you might be punished. Like a masterclass - a psychologist would point to a deep inner need to control environment and other people, which certainly is a human trait in some. Oddly there are a variety of creation stories, many are similar, some in Asia are quite different - to western ears they seem odd, elephants and funny creatures - but no more odd than people being turned into salt pillars, being thrown up by a whale or removing the obstacle of a large river. The problem with one group writing an account about their own history is that it could objectively be described as propaganda. Why are you special God said so ... which is comforting to believe and difficult to argue with as they really do believe they are 'special' because ... well God said so ...

When I do not see the moon at night, neither does anyone else. The moon is fully in earth’s shadow. No one on earth can see it at night. Also, The times Some are seeing it during the day is not what the storybook says. This also disproves flat earth claims.

If you want to follow that line back far enough, It seems logical that some organism came first (before the first egg laying chicken ancestor evolved.) But I was not there and I am not an expert in Biology, so that question is best answered by someone who has seen and evaluated the evidence, like a Biologist!
@WEStern-sm3ot3 жыл бұрын
@Donna Clark Little organisms divide and evolve over great time periods into larger organisms. Over millions of years, changes gradually occur: single celled organisms become multi-celled organisms and so on while other adaptations to their environments evolve. Eventually you have large enough organisms, along with many adaptations to their environments to evolve wings, egg laying capabilities, etc. (This is largely determined by their needs to survive in their environments over time). This is known as evolution by NATURAL selection. There is also evolution by HUMAN selection, which is why we have dog breeds, cows, corn large enough to eat, etc. The reason the Covid Delta variant is now an issue is because evolution occurs quicker in microscopic life. So, get vaccinated and take a basic Biology class or ask a Biologist if you have further questions! I don’t have the time or qualifications to teach you basic Biology, as your knowledge is obviously very limited or your brainwashing is getting in the way of logic and evidence.
