The Gluon Gun was supposed to have an actual secondary of switching between a thin beam with high fire rate & a wide slow beam with splash damage. The idle animation being played when secondary is clicked on the retail game is a leftover from when that was the toggle animation.

Dude, you've earned another subscriber over these video game weapon sins alone. This is just the second one I've seen and I'm hooked. You pointed out a bunch of stuff I completely missed in Half-Life. Nice work. My sole counterpoint is on the crossbow, Gordon not changing the magazine could well be dictated by the aspect ratio and FOV you run the game at. I play my games at a high FOV, usually 110 if I can get the game to accept it, and a lot of reload animations I've found just pull the mag out of frame and put it back in and count on the player simply not having a wide enough field of view to notice.

For the glock actually you see Gordon's thumb to move but the animation looks cut out so it kinda does something to hit the mag release Edit: the reload animations weren't a thing back then. All games had the same reload whether empty o partial. Historically that should be tolerable

The weird features of some weapons were caused due to need for balance. [Auto pistol secondary fire] real-life would go full auto - if not for balance sake, which settled for rapid fire instead. [Shotgun secondary fire] real-life would go for rapid fire - if not for balance sake, which settled for a double shot instead. In both cases the DPS was kept in check. Facts: pump shotguns like the Ithaca could use slamfire, where you held down the trigger and fired faster. Facts: SPAS-12 primary would have been semi-auto, with the pump mode used situationally for specialty ammunition without enough power to cycle the next round. Hence the pump mode would have never made it into the game. Summary: How the shotgun in the game would have made sense - make the Ithaca the base shotgun, reduce the ammo count (due to short length), give its secondary mode slamfire with a faster rate but less accuracy and higher recoil. Introduce SPAS-12 as an alt shotgun with primary mode semi-auto with less recoil. Pump mode would have no place in the game. It would not make sense to have the slower pump mode fire a more damaging ammunition like the slug, as the more powerful animation would anyway have been powerful enough to cycle the next round defeating the purpose for pump in the first place!

That is because of the viewmodel FOV. The game was made in 1998 and it was meant to be played in 4:3, that is why the FOV is very low.

The ar is a 9mm rifle and the reason the ejection port is on the wrong side is it’s an experimental weapon and the reason why the ring thingy doesn’t come of is because the game is 20 something years old

The reason the 92FS can fire automatically is because it's literally just a remodeled glock. The reason the 92FS and the Glock have clear mags is (probably) because the game's creators didn't want the reload animation to be "put low-quality black cuboid into other low-quality black cuboid".

Gordon loading shells into the heat shield was because valve thought the feeding hole was a 2nd barrel and that the heat shield was where the rounds should be loaded.

The reason the rocket's motor is firing at Gordon's face is because valve thought it would be more convenient to have the rocket spawn right in the middle of your crosshair, rather than have it actually come out of the RPG's "tube"/"barrel"/whatever you wanna call it.

The glock doesn't shoots fully automatic, is just a faster firing rate. Consider both rates as precise slow trigger pulls vs fast inaccurate I-gotta-escape-quick fast trigger pulls
