This movie has somehow become a nostalgic beloved classic, and that sh*t is WRONG. This movie is TERRIBLE. This movie is sinny.
Next week: Classic scary sins and new-era "classic" holiday sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

The cg cat clips are awesome for its time. I think it’s because if you’ve ever seen a black cat irl, the fur seems to absorb light, so you’re only really seeing eyes nose and mouth, and a small amount of shine on the body. They applied that to the film almost perfectly

When the sister says "This is my first time!" She means it's her first time Trick or Treating in THAT city. They had just moved there, which is also why the bullies all focus on Max. 14:05 I think it's implied that mortals can't see the light coming from the book. In the previous scene when Allison first opens it, it's glowing on the front page and she says 'nothing weird so far.' Both Allison and Max couldn't see it, so I doubt any of the residents of Salem would see it either. I always assumed that because Binx was bewitched by the witches magic, he is a 'magical creature' and therefore he could see the light, hence why he jumped on the book to close it.

The spell is a bit different in the book than the film but in essence both say the victim remains an eternal animal. The movie is more specific, saying "His punishment shall not be to die, but to live forever with his guilt. Arch the bones of the back, a feline hiss give him fur black as black, just like this." @@therealMrA Makes perfect sense if you're aware that the "style" of movies - which includes how it's shot, plausible budgets, style of costumes, actors used, and even story plot changes from decade to decade. You wouldn't judge the classical movie "Gone With the Wind" using your ideals of 2019's fashion because it wasn't made in 2019 and thus the style of speech and dress is nothing like today's even in the local that the movie was shot.
@999SickBoy666
@999SickBoy666 3 жыл бұрын
@@AriaSerif Uhm, no. Movies are considered classics (or even just good movies) precisely because they still hold up to scrutiny even decades later. Also, what you called the "style" of movies doesn't necessarily change between decades and, when it does, it's not a linear progression. Also also, both storytelling in general and film making in particular adhere to a set of rules several of which are hundreds years old and haven't changed to this day. So, yeah, you can definitely use "2019 logic" - which is not a thing, by the way - to evaluate a movie from the 1990s (or from the 1920s, for that matter: go watch _Nosferatu_ use your best "2020 logic" and tell me if that shit doesn't hold up).

The moon being full on Halloween happens on an average of every 18 to 19 years so it is quit a rare event happening only 4 or 5 times in a century. The last time the moon was full on Halloween was October 31st, 2001, the one before that was 1974. The next Halloween full moon will occur in 2020. The movie claims it's been 300 years since the Sanderson sisters died, which means only about 15 times that there has even been a Full Moon on Halloween since their demise., and the witnesses to their actions would prevent any attempts for a significant portion of the earlier occurrences. That's 15 days out of almost 110,000 days that even allow for the opportunity for lighting the candle to have any effect at all, and it wouldn't be until the facts became clouded by time and believed to be legend and myth that anyone might consider making an attempt so probably the first 2 or 3, maybe more, wouldn't even have anyone consider attempting it. Also, the wax on the candle is clearly melted, so people have clearly lit it in the past (of the characters' perspective), but one or more of the varied and sundry requirements must have been off at the time of those previous attempts. They must have assumed that they had all the variables correct, or they wouldn't have tried it, so their failures would be perceived as evidence that the whole candle thing was myth, which would dissuade future attempts by those same individuals, as well as any that heard of their failed attempts. These factors, combined, make it highly unlikely that there would have been any previous successful attempt. The sin isn't that no one succeeded before. But the sin should be, instead, that given all possible issues that could prevent it from working, the kid in this movie actually succeeded against such odds.

When Winifred says “It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus,” there IS a sin there that wasn’t mentioned. She wasn’t resurrected when he said that, so how did she know to mock him with it? Was her ghost just hanging out? If so, why didn’t she understand what sprinklers are? Also as a kid I was never sure if “Madonna” was their mom or not. Dani says, “My brother’s a virgin and he lit the black flame candle...” Why not use his name? When talking to my parents I don’t say “my brother,” I use his name. And her mom acts so unconcerned. Both of those factors led to confusion of if the woman was her mother or not for my entire childhood. Here's one I've always noticed. At 8:20, Winifred quotes Max back saying "It's just a bunch of Hocus Pocus!" However, during the time when Max actually said that in the Sanderson House, Winnie and her sisters were still dead and had no way of hearing him say this line. And if they could somehow hear him, they would've heard everything else said within their house over the course of 300 years, which clearly does not reflect on their behavior when they actually get revived.

Ah yes, the pre 9-11 days, a far more innocent time for Americans when security in federal locations that are open to the public was less tight, toy guns didn't require bright colors and small things like swiss army knives and cigarette lighters were still allowed on planes. * sigh * My how things have changed. I go to the local airport these days and see army personell in camo keeping watch with semi automatics. It's sad what this world is coming to. 😢 @Pheeno Barbidoll - I did that A LOT one year and I was eventually caught, yelled at and placed in Study Hall for the second half of the day for a while until they could decide what else to do with me (this was in our senior year and our homeroom teacher had us getting jobs as part of our class work so that we could learn to function in the real world, but I was between jobs at the moment so I got through my regular classes and then went home...right after lunch...at about 12:30 in the afternoon). The joke was still on them though, I was able to get all of my homework done before I got home so now I could watch Eek! The Cat and play video games when I got home instead of doing more school work. Hey, I was still a kid, I had a life outside of school too.

Heh, heh! Blackmail material, nice! I didn't dare skip detention the one time in my innocent little life that I got it because I didn't want to make things worse for myself, but I did skip out after half a day for a few weeks in my senior year until I got another job so that I could graduate.

"Cheese and crust" To be fair, since they worship Satan, the sisters couldn't actually swear on Christ's name, could they? "That girl looked just like the little girl whose soul they sucked at the beginning of the movie" Could be why they got so terrified of her. From their perspective, A child they killed is now an angel, a messenger of the lord, whom is their enemy.
@megadeathx

Considering that the whole point of Satanism is to blaspheme God and everything God stands for, it would be perfect for them to use Chirst's name as an expletive. Contrary to popular belief, Satanists don't believe in a different, competing God, they believe in the same almighty God but disagree about how to praise that God. Through blaspheme instead of kind words.
