@@SuperFlawless2010 it's gone the way of mission impossible. i don't even bother following the convoluted plotlines (there's always someone from john's past showing up just like there's always someone from ethan's past). i just enjoy them in sections and as showcases now. i just remember them as: the one he climbs the tall building, the one he's outside of a plane, the one he jumps off a cliff, etc etc etc - wick's set pieces aren't as memorable, so i don't even have a big stunt from each entry to associate with - the one he fought for a long time in some classical architecture and the one where he fought for a long time in a dance hall lol

So the column thing, it's actually a crematorium in berlin, and this is as I recall a "lost steps room", a room where people wait for the remains. They can roam around, or sit and mourn, the columns provide a soft light from the top, but also allow a certain degree of privacy, as you said, they are too many and we can't see properly the space. it's by purpose. this space has been used for aeon flux, cloud atlas, and several other movies

helps when your director is a former stunt man who knows a LOT about how to make enjoyable to watch action scenes. part of what makes these movies so great is you legit see the fight scenes, they arent zoomed in massively to just hide a stunt double. most of these actors in this movie during those major fight scenes are extremely experienced in martial arts IRL so makes these scenes all the more exciting to watch.

But, I was absolutely blown away. This was a globe-trotting action movie EPIC and a masterclass in action choreography, stuntwork, and long, wide takes. I was thinking that too, it never clarified if he’s mostly blind or totally blind, but it makes sense. Is John Wick one of the greatest action franchises of all time??? *YEAH…*
@OrionInSpace
@OrionInSpace 8 ай бұрын
This is one of those movies that really pushes back against the narrative you see a lot of today with people complaining about realism, overpowered characters, how believable something is and so on based on some of things that John survives and manages with the time and pace of his journey... (ex falling out the building hitting the car and getting back up, falling off the roof in the club and getting back up instantly and the moment with the stairway's in France) All that being said, in my mind I still loved this movie regardless, one of the best action films ever made!

I think it's to illustrate John's willpower and what made him the "Baba Yaga", not to be fantastical or to pay no heed to suspension of disbelief. Though, to be fair, I always felt there was something supernatural about John since the first film. The way the Russians talk about him like he's a ghost, something elemental out in the world. A story told to children like Dracula, or the Baba Yaga, actually.

It works because John gets hurt. He suffers every step of the way. Film realism isn't about "reality", unless the story you're telling is a documentary. It's about thinking through the consequences of actions taken. Probably the strongest theme in all of the Wick movies is that of consequence. Everything everyone does incurs a consequence for them or for someone else. That's why it works. John Wick is overpowered, sure, but he and his friends still face terrible consequences for the things they do. It's the same reason Superman works despite being in-universe OP. It's not about how strong he is, it's about the people behind him that he protects. High stakes for Superman isn't "you'll die", it's "everyone behind you will die". Same idea for Wick. It's not about how good he is at being an assassin, it's about Winston and Caine and everyone else he takes with him. It's about what happens to them.

@@masterdynamo6457 "It works because John gets hurt. He suffers every step of the way." So I think you even addressed the flaw in itself. He doesn't REALLY actually get hurt. Yes he gets shot and stabbed at times we know that, but come on man falling off the roof of buildings multiple times in this franchise and not breaking his body to the point of being paralyzed is a bit ridiculous. Cool but also ridiculous. The rest of your point I get but that's not where my focus is on.

To their credit, they kept the effort strong and even came away with a few surprises like Common in 2, Mark Dacacos and Yayan Ruihian and Halley Berry in 3, and this with Hiroyuki Sanada and Scott Adkins and Donnie Yen. I do agree with the sentiment in many respects, but at least it can be said they made solid use of the talent they had the further it went along, silly as it got.

Speaking of night clubs in ancient, historical buildings: My brother and I were in Nottingham, England on vacation, and we were a bit aimless. We saw an old cathedral, it was late afternoon, we figured it'd be a good place to sit, rest, and admire some history. This place had two bars on either side and a huge dance floor in the back. We were surprised it was even open (the sun was still out), but we got drinks and still enjoyed history, just with booze.

Example, John gets stabbed with a broken glass bottle and falls from a 2 story club balcony, then needs stitches and rest in order to recuperate. In 4 he gets hit by multiple cars driving at full speed, falls from a 10 story window and 100 flight of steps just to ultimately shrug it off like it was nothing 🤷‍♂️. Sure you also had to suspend your disbelief a little in the first as well, but this one requires you to shut your brain off completely in order to even get into it.

Yeah, it always puzzled me that, with all the various mutilations, that the Table's main ways to motivate or forgive their assassins were methods that made them less capable at the jobs they wanted them to do. Also, the greatest crime in this movie is what they did to that gorgeous, black '71 Cuda.
@thegeneralgamer4921
@thegeneralgamer4921 8 ай бұрын
This was likely intentional. If you think about it, if you just had an assassin that killed a member of the high table, for instance, you'd want them to be less capable so they'd be easier to kill/stop in the future if needed.

So, fun fact, car generally don’t stop bullets. The engine block, axles, and maybe the support pillars where the car door hinges to the car are the only safeish spots. Car doors? Not even remotely bulletproof, they’re just going to deform the bullet and make them leave a nastier hole in you. And, yes, I am a gun nerd and an actual firearm instructor, and have tested this many times. 😊
