After much demand, we decided to point the sin-counter at the dinosaur classic, Jurassic Park. And no, one of the sins isn't that the kids don't die.
Coming Friday: A Conversation about Star Trek Into Darkness.
Coming Next Tuesday: Another Sins video.
In The Coming Weeks: Musical wizard stupidity.
No movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we recount next? Merch: teespring.com/stores/cinemasi...

What about the ending. It's the biggest movie mistake ever.... They make a point all through the film that you can feel and hear a T Rex coming from miles away (the vibrations rippling the water and the stomping sounds etc.) But then right at the end the Rex magically ninjas her way into the visitors centre without anyone seeing or hearing it.

la dodgers 4 life Even without the sound thing, there's no way nobody failed to SEE the T-Rex coming through the front doors -- unless the cinematographer did the thing many do, which is assume everyone's line of vision ends with the camera. This happens more than once in the movie. "Wow, a Brachiosaur. And wow, look at all these other dinosaurs I didn't notice because I didn't turn my head slightly to the left!"

MorriganAtwood There are two dangerous raptors closing in on them. Your eyes would be on the raptors and solely on the raptors, to look away or direct your attention elsewhere just isnt important. Perhaps the rex did make noise, but being we are in Grant's POV we didnt hear it because he disregarded everything to protect his girlfriend and wards from the immediate threat. As for the raptors, they were focused on the kill and nothing else. Even the smartest of predators is subject to the same fallacies.
@MorriganAtwood
@MorriganAtwood 9 жыл бұрын
Darren Hood We're not seeing from his POV. It's a third person shot. I disagree on the raptors. I think as pack hunters that have to be aware of their environment they'd have picked up on a larger predator moving in, and since the camera doesn't show anything from their POV or their thought process the most we can do is speculate.

@Israel220500
@Israel220500 4 жыл бұрын
@@majora5651 Not quite. Electricity finds the path with less resistance between two points with voltage difference between them. It doesn't matter if it's two wires or a wire and ground as long as there is a voltage difference. Also it's not necessarily the shortest path, if there's a path made of metal and other of ceramic, electricity will most likely choose the metallic one even if it's longer since it has less resistance.

Another sin: Nobody makes zoos with electric fences. You're smart enough to cobble together dinosaur DNA, but too dumb to ask, "Hey, what if the power goes out?" Another sin: How do you get from strands of DNA to eggs? What lays the eggs? Another sin: Somebody creates a living dinosaur and doesn't tell anyone until they have a zoo-ful? The moment one hatches, they'd be racing to publish their scientific findings and to patent their work, if not earlier. Another sin: You want to do a safety review of your zoo, who do you call? Zoologists? Safety experts? No, a mathematician and an archaeologist.

1. Redundant generators would have been nice, yes, at the very least on the carnivore paddocks. But wouldn't that have defeated the purpose of being able to run the whole park from the control center? 2. Ostriches (and I assume emus). Hammond states this during the tour of the lab. The Japanese have successfully transplanted tuna DNA into newly hatched mackerel gonads, and the mackerel laid tuna eggs, so it's plausible (plus, this is how you clone sheep, by swapping out the nuclei in a fertilized egg). 3. Large, multi-billion dollar conglomerate with top notch lawyers who make people sign rock solid Non-Disclosure Agreements might have something to do with it. Think Apple. 4. You got me. I wouldn't risk grandkids on a trial run. Not to mention that Hammond should have replaced Nedry almost immediately. He had liability written all over him. Guess you get what you pay for (lowest bidder). :P
@Fingeroo
@Fingeroo 9 жыл бұрын
The park was geothermally powered, and therefore a power outage was not something very likely to happen. It wasn't the storm that took the fences offline but Nedry, an unpredictable act from an inside man. If Nedry hadn't deactivated the enclosure fences to get to the eastern dock, nothing would've happened.

Fun fact, the scene where the T-Rex breaks the ceiling glass of the car was not part of the original script. During production, the animatronic T-Rex basically malfunctioned due to the "rain" and was not able to stop in time and dropped right through the glass, leaving the actors for Lex and Tim pinned under it, so the reactions that you see in the film are real, and those are their actual screams of Terror!

This may be just a minor point, but the design of the raptors is a little inaccurate. Raptors looked a little different than how they were depicted in JP. Their design in this movie bares a greater resemblance to the Utah raptor or deinonychus, which was a primary antagonistic dinosaur in Carnosaur.

To my knowledge all our images of what dinosaurs "looked like" are basically educated guesses based on their bones. Could be wrong, but I'd sure like to know how one can confidently say "This is what that skull looked like when it had flesh" with any accuracy.

Crazy Jay Yeah, but Velociraptor bones indicate that they're about 2 feet tall, not 2 metres as shown in the film. It's on the small side of the Dromaeosaurs, whereas Deinonychus is approximately the same size as the 'raptors in the movie. However, when the book was released, Paleontologists were considering classifying Deinonychus as a species of Velociraptor. By the time the movie came out however, the debate had died down, but the director kept the name because it sounded cooler.

This is one of the many examples of where deviating from the novel maskes some scnes inclusion make zero sense. In the novel as Project Supervisor of the Jurassic Park Project, he was first told to "design a module for record keeping". Nedry was never told everything, and was always working in the dark. He had become very annoyed with InGen; Hammond continually asked for things which hadn't been included in his original contract, and InGen demanded that they be done. When Nedry refused, lawsuits were threatened and letters were written to Nedry's other clients insinuating that he was unreliable. Nedry had no other choice but to return and carry out the extra work, but for no extra money.

1:46 That scene is actually explored further and fully explained in the book. Said dinosaur DID eat the lilac berries, but not intentionally. Herbivores like triceratops and stegosaurus had to swallow rocks to help grind up vegetation in their stomachs, since they didn't really have the teeth for it. When the rocks were eventually worn down, they were excreted and the cycle would begin anew. The trike (in the novel, it was a stegosaurus) was accidentally eating lilac berries WITH the rocks off the ground and getting sick routinely as a result. That would also explain why there were no lilac berries in its droppings - they would've been passed weeks ago and Ellie was looking at the wrong batch. Makes you wonder why they didn't include that in the film...

You missed a few sins: When the lawyer runs away from the Explorer at the T-Rex paddock, he leaves the car door wide open. In he following few shots, it's closed and then reopens again allowing Timmy to close it which gets the attention of the T-Rex. Also, why is Mr. Arnold allowed to go flip the circuit breaker all alone? They knew damn well how dangerous a task it would be yet the chief of security hides in a bunker with all the guns while he goes out in the park alone? Speaking of Mr. Arnold, how in gods name did his severed arm get into a position to fall on Ellie's shoulder. Hell, how did the raptor get all the way into the bowels of that building to kill him in the first place? The power to the raptor pen had only turned of moments before he left to flip the breakers. Another thing: Dr. Grant fires the shotgun at the glass because "they're coming through the glass!" Yet when we see the glass in the next shot, it has regular bullet holes instead of buckshot. Also, the bullets fail to break the glass, how in the hell did the raptor do it? Then, later in that scene the raptor pops up through the ceiling tile but when Dr. Grant kicks it in the face it falls like 15 feet to the floor below, what was it standing on? I'll stop there. You need to revisit this movie and give it more sins.

You forgot the biggest sin of this movie: Where the hell did all the park staff go? They explain in a couple throw away lines that people where getting or heading to the boat, whether because of the storm of or the main staff leaves for the weekend, leaving only a skeleton crew behind, we don't know. But there isn't even a skeleton crew. Before the power goes out we see like 15 people in every shot. Scientists, construction crew, maintenance, control room techs. Heck even guys who seem to only open and close gates. Even the waiters serving them a meal they didn't eat are gone. Was Hammond planning to entertain his visitors for a few days with zero staff? Nedry also comments (or boasts) the automated system he designed could run on minimal staff for up to three days. By minimal staff did he mean two techs, a park warden and the owner himself? Because without Grant and the others that's all who would be left to run the whole place for however long the others would be gone for. Oh and you also forgot when Grant and the kids make it back to the visitor center and the kids find a fully laid out buffet just sitting in the dinning room. Did Hammond insist on enough food to feed 30 people be cooked and placed for less than half a dozen visitors? No wonder InGen was in the red in the sequels.
@Valzahd
@Valzahd 10 жыл бұрын
Okay last one I swear: Line flub for drama Ellie talks some reality to Hammond in the dinning room and says Grant and the kids are out there "Where people are dying." This line later becomes a dramatic repeat by Hammond when the talk about fully shutting down the systems is being discussed. "People are dying." Let's go over the facts: Up until this part only two characters have been killed. The lawyer and Nedry. Ellie and Muldoon confirmed the lawyer being toast but no one knew the fate of Nedry. Now unless there were in fact other staff out in the park radioing in the growing fatalities off camera, that means all of them were only aware of a single death. It shouldn't have been "People are dying." Rather "A person has died." But that wouldn't be dramatic enough I suppose.

The point where the Rex breaks through is the only point where the fence is damaged. Dr Grant then climbs down the wall, which has no indication of ground anywhere around it - indeed there is a MASSIVE tree immediately below that catches the Jeep. So this giant fucking tree is growing in a moat? No. Also, a sin for Grant and Tim being considered for Founding Fathers of the Prometheus School of Running Away from Things by climbing down a tree immediately below a falling car instead of moving sideways and choosing another route. All of this is testament to the power of spectacle and Spielberg's understanding of what makes a great blockbuster film, since I never noticed it at all when I was young and only noticed after becoming a surly, critical bastard.

@Eggsdayz It's perfectly possible that the Rex saw thing moving through the glass, and anyway, the Rex had just been freed so it was probably curious about its own strengh. The T-Rex was probably a good stealthy hunter, but during the paddock attack scene and the Jeep chase scene it had no reason to be stealthy: it had just eaten.

I've heard quite a few youtubers talk about their metrics and consistently it seems to be that if you want returning viewers who watch the entire video to the end, you should shoot for the 10-15 minute mark. Which is probably part of why there are always the little edited clips at the end now.

Shadow07Warrior1989 What are you talking about? This video was uploaded 2 years ago. Most of EWW videos are about movies that came out before this video. And nowadays, most (if not all) EWW videos are at least 10 minutes long, no matter if they are new or old or considered good or bad. This makes your comment 100% wrong. The reason why the videos were shorter is simple: Cinemasins was a new thing for both viewers and makers of the videos. And don't forget that shitty movies are easily forgotten, that's why you don't remember many old movies that are bad. At least a lot of people liked your comment, because criticizing the present was always popular.

Fun fact: Actually the T. rex paddock’s large drop off has been explained by drawings and layouts made by the director or someone. Apparently there is a moat like you would see in a common zoo enclosure, and the level ground slants up for the T. rex to walk up to the fences. Unfortunately that is never addressed in the movie so it’s a very sudden change of scenery.

That is the dumbest concept I've heard. So they find a place that people can NOT see the main attraction from the cars, cause it's 70 ft below them and 30 ft off the road? Then build a tiny goat elevator just to lure it to the ONLY hill in the paddock where people MIGHT see it? Either one, it was a stupid after thought they did when caught and tried to explain it away, OR these designers were the absolute WORST designers on the planet and still deserve the sin.

The movie designed their own raptors. The movie is not scientifically accurate but they used raptors because of how endorsed raptors are. They wanted to use a dinosaur that people would like but they also wanted the dinosaur to be more big and menacing to match the script.

I think the biggest sin that’s strangely lot included here is how the gigantic T. rex magically appears inside the visitor’s centre completely undetected by both the humans AND velociraptors WITHOUT breaking a huge hole in the wall (or crawling through a people-sized door) or ominously shaking things with her approaching footsteps. World’s biggest ninja, right there.

i think that the biggest fail in this movie is that nobody do something importing. Only the T-Rex is a hero, since he accidentally kills exactly all the bad guys/dino's. - he kills Dennis Nedry, who otherwise did have steel the dna. - he kills Donald Gennaro, who left the children - he kills the two velociraptors, exactly one second before everyone's get killed.. just let the T-Rex someone kill, and all your problems are solved ;)
