Content-wise seems like a perfect car and project. There aren't many videos on this vehicle and it is a very nice Higher end sedan. If I was in the position that I had another vehicle to use in the meantime I would definitely take on the repair myself. I just can't see throwing down that much cash for something that seems like it's within your skill range.

Large quotes like that are pretty standard at a lexus dealer, I paid for diagnostic for a tranmission leak on an ES and aside from fixing that ($400) they recommended 9k worth of "urgent work". One thing I discovered is that labor rates vary from dealers and some provide better prices.

Valley plate repair is about $2,500 worth of labor when the seal itself is $18. I am not a mechanic so I found another way around the ask. It’s funny they said it’s due to high age, it’s actually due to choices Lexus made and we’re aware of but never remedied. One of the few times that we know they chose money and discretion over the customer and ultimate honor like in previous years. It’s rare but it happened. I wrote directly to Lexus USA with my 2015 LS 460 F - Sport and they helped me out which was ultimately honorable. The dealer thought I was a joke but Lexus USA are very reasonable when held accountable and provided a concession to me within 72 hours of request. With all of that, I used to live outside Hershey and I am familiar with the area where you are at. I would recommend another dealership but at the same time you know what needs to be done and are going to do it yourself. You could get that ask down to around $4,500 or so in the real world if your someone who isn’t a mechanic and needed a second opinion. Well I look forward to the content. My 2015 has 118k and is Starting to need TLC. Trunk doesn’t work now all of a sudden and my Mark Levinson radio is done , aka the amp. I can see where this is going to start adding up when you factor in the air suspension that I can tell is starting to show signs. Fun times lol, love the car but perplexed on if I should keep it and run with her and all the issues that are to come or do I cut and bail out to another and move on. Anyway, great cars when they are going, one of the best dollar for dollar.

Marty you should take the vehicle to another shop and have them perform a proper compression test(Lexus dealers use the tech stream and it uses the starter to get an idea rather than actual compression numbers) and perform a leak down. Lexus diagnosed my ISF as needing a DI for my cylinder 8 misfire. All their diagnosis pointed to that and I changed the injector and still had the misfire. It ended up being a bad intake valve.
@bassandtrebleclef6 ай бұрын
Dumb question if you don't mind. Would it have been more cost efficient to simply start replacing parts rather than spending on labor costs to troubleshoot? Of course then you're replacing plugs, coil packs, injectors, intake valve.

I would call around to a few lexus dealers and try to get them to beat each other on the injector prices and stick to OEM over going with rockauto. Eh do the valley plate job yourself. I did mine. All 8 DI injectors are insane. I would still try injector cleaner BG44k or Seafoam before that. Yes things will break in there including the injectors. It's a long job but for 7-8k... you're better off doing it yourself. Need clawfoot wrenches to take the fuel pumps off. Gaskets and all that would need to be changed. Also I would highly recommend a top creeper as it will make taking the manifold off a lot easier. Otherwise your back is gonna take a beating. Slow and steady all the way. Heat gun to soften plastics. A variety of pics for the connectors, and just be methodical. Would make for a great vid too. DI injectors need seals for the tips. Takes a special tool to do that and is worth it IMO. Its pretty hard to stretch the seal evenly and then seat it and compress it effectively. The top of it needs a bunch of seals too. Each injector is about 180 odd dollars from Lexus parts now.
@MartyMotoring6 ай бұрын
The special tooling put my off at first and might need someone with experience to help me there. I ran 3 different types of injector cleaners in this thing including BG44k twice with no luck sadly.

@@MartyMotoring Ah gotcha. That's unfortunate. The tool isn't bad. I made a video on how to use it cause there weren't any at the time and I had to adapt. Never uploaded it though so I'll see if I can find that footage again. All the hackey stuff of using painters tape or a pen cap and stuff would be great if they compressed the seal evenly which they sadly do not.

The first thing to do, guys is find all the codes with a decent scanner. Remember, the codes can be a direct solution but also could be the symptom of the root cause. I've had a misfire from a harness wire that a mouse ate through from an injector but also had a misfire from an upper stream bad oxygen sensor which is also a fuel senser and comunicates with the ECU. If anyone pays for a diagnostic report, make sure you ask for all the code details. Basically get a decent OBD II scanner and find where your plug goes into for your type of car. Its usually, under the steering wheel dash area. If you can't do that basic type of diagnostic, then don't even attempt to try. The key is to not get overwhelmed and be persistent until the process of eliminating things is complete.

If it’s not your primary vehicle and you have the time and tools this is actually something you can tackle. When you go to a dealership you will pay for all OEM parts. You go to mechanic you are paying for it to be done in a timely manner and as long as there is no part issue’s usually get it back in 72 hours or less. I myself just don’t have the time if I start it the job would take me probably 3 months. While it’s apart I would go ahead change spark plugs and all belts etc.

Exactly the reason why I have not pulled the trigger on a purchase of the same model. I realized with pre-owned vehicles there will be some parts and repairs that will need to be done so it can run as smooth as possible for a used car. However, this, while may not cost as much as a pre-owned MB or BWM, will still cost some over a Toyota or a Honda, simply because it is a luxury brand. You are certainly more equipped and able compared to others and I commend you for it. I am excited though to see the final product after you're done with all the repairs. I really, really like this model as it is before the total re-design which makes it looks funny now.

@@MartyMotoring I have 2016 Cadillac XTS that I love and will keep until it dies. I bought it as a CPO so it came with a nice warranty in 2018 when I purchased it slightly used. Last year, after the warranty finally ended, I took it the dealer to get an oil change (i had a coupon and while under warranty this Cadillac shop did all of the work and knew the car well) When I go to pick up the car they tell me the manifold has a large crack in it and they could weld it shut for $1500 or I would need a brand new exhaust system that would cost $3000…Later that day I took it to a local mechanic I use for my other cars and asked him to put car on lift to see if he saw the crack…Just as he was lifting it, a friend of his comes strolling into the shop to check on some car work he ( the mechanic ) was doing for him. Well the friend sees that my Caddy is on the lift and says to me, what’s wrong with the car. I explain what the dealer said was wrong and the price…The guy says, “hey do you mind if I take a look, I was a certified Cadillac mechanic for 15 years..” Um, by all means I reply, please take a look tell me if there is really a crack in the manifold. He and local shop mechanic get their flashlights out and go over the under side of my car with a fine tooth comb..They both shake their heads as they approach me and tell me that neither one of them can find the “crack”..Then the former Caddy mechanic says, Sir, I can promise you, there is no crack that needs to repaired…. Ok , two things…1. what a stroke of luck to have the caddy mechanic show up at the exact moment I needed it …2.,I will never take any car I own back to the dealership for work once the warranty is up…there is just to much incentive built in for them to cheat, lie and steal…

If you think replacing injectors is an engine rebuild, you shouldn't touch your car
@MartyMotoring6 ай бұрын
Lol not a rebuild but a refresh for some parts…New spark plugs (done), new Valve cover gaskets, a valley plate reseal, fuel pump gaskets, intake manifold gaskets and of course injectors. Definitely try to avoid actually taking the engine out and apart if I can help it.

Go ahead and do it yourself, record the whole process of replacing the injectors. I don't want to watch you sitting in the kitchen talking, I want to see a man working on his car fixing it 😂
