As a movie theater employee, my coworkers and I loved this film and so did everyone else. This was our most popular movie. Even when Avatar's percentages died down, this movie continued to thrive. The art style was so beautiful to look at and the depiction of an anxiety attack was so intense, I felt like I was gonna have one. Antonio and Salma did phenomenal and this entire movie is so re-watchable. Florence Pugh and the rest of the bears also did great as well.

the intentions of the map was to help you realize you do not need what you think you need. for Perrito, he had everything he needed. For Puss, He saw his past lives and what a jerk he was. He doesn't need them. For Softpaws, hers was about being alone, how she does not trust anybody, but their path helped her realize she has puss. For goldi, it made her realize that she already has a family she can love, and the bears are already content with what they have. We do not see horners but he doesnt have to learn anything. It's not only nice but It's also a very intentional decision to create such a villain. Puss in boots TLW uses classic fairy tales to create a universal message. In such world a truly evil villain is perfect because It creates a strong contrast between him and the protagonists. Not to say that Jack Horner can be interpreted as a ctricism for modern sympathetic villains. The message is simple but effective in this case: "Sometimes evil is just evil and we shouldn't find excuses for that but just fight with it until it's too late".

It was brilliant, probably in my top 5 animateds ever. I recently watched the super Mario movie and that wasn't a patch on this. My friend said he thought Mario was miles better, I wondered if he actually watched this one because this is a hard 8/10 would definitely watch again movie, and Mario was a very generic run of the mill 5/10 no reason to ever watch it again movie. For me anyway.

7:54 Also, it’s pretty obvious that Kitty wanted Jack Horner to see that the map was inside the box first, and then make her move after he’s been further convinced that it’s in his possession, and he’s more likely to leave it unattended for longer, buying her some time. (Edit: added time stamp)

14:56 This sin really bothered me because 1. We already have a irredeemable ruthless villain in this movie 2. Goldilocks and the Three Bears serve as antagonists to Puss, they’re all working toward the same goal but in opposing teams. 3. Just because something is directed at kids doesn’t mean it needs to be overly dumbed down. Children are a lot smarter then society gives them credit for, and it’s a breath of fresh air to have a piece of film intended for younger audiences (ESPECIALLY animation) to not talk down to its viewers. The movie’s themes are about learning to live with the fact that death is ever looming in our lives, and how to cherish every moment. That’s a valuable lesson for EVERY age because no matter what part of your life you’re in it’s important to face your mortality and learn to deal with it. I would like to go on a rant (kinda just did) about this but others have done it better

If half the creativity of this movie was used in the previous Shrek movies, the franchise would be worthy of the memetic obsession it has and Dreamworks would actually be a strong contender for one-upping Disney the way it was spitefully founded on. (No seriously, Dreamworks exists because its founder was kicked out of Disney and wanted to spite them. It's why Shrek is a giant satire of Disney fairy tale movies.)

What sets this movie apart from any other Shrek movie is that it makes the point to appreciate life. Death stalks puss because he does not appreciate his own life, and recklessly throws it into meaningless endeavors . Meanwhile, Jack Horner appreciates his own life so much, he walks over the lives of many others to preserve his own. Death is so aggravated by the fact the puss dies and spits in the face of him, that he makes him a personal vendetta. When death gives up the chase in the final fight and throws a tantrum his line in Spanish is: "¿Por qué diablos fui a jugar con mi comida?" translates to "Why the hell did I play with my food?" Death could have killed puss at any point.

The fact that the film never feels like it's being held back by the fact it's a supposed "kid's film" just makes it so much better. Usually in such films (even great ones), you just know nobody's actually going to die, so even the action scenes are so much less intense. And when people do die, it's either intentionally vague, completely offscreen or just faceless goons. In this one? Jack Horner's clearly human henchman, who constantly get humanized in little ways, all die pretty brutal deaths directly onscreen. It really feels like this film was made first and foremost for adults, while still being made entertaining enough for children.
