If they did, then Rose Quartz/Steven would have had a zig-zag pattern encircling her/his gemstone, not radiating straight lines. There would have been almost 100% certainty that Pink Diamond was Rose Quartz as far back as Jungle Moon had PD's gemstone faceting lines matched those of Rose's/Steven's.

So, i have seen through Steven Universe seasons 1-4 probably 100 or so times just on a loop because my kiddos watch it a lot. I know all the songs, im familiar with all the imagery, and character developments in that time. Im a casual fanatic--this show makes me feel good. I gotta say that some of your arguments are easily explained away because the rules for it are only implicitly stated, not explicitly stated. How she ate the shards and left them behind after poofing? Yeah that might just be because she chose not to integrate them into her being, unlike amethist and eating where she default always integrates what she eats. We've just never seen anyone with the desire to NOT integrate it before so its never been shown. The fact that it has such an easy explanation makes your complaints a little silly. Something this reveal actually REALLY gives explanation for is Rose Quarts ridiculous amout of abilities. Anyone ever notice? Steven seems to have power after power after power where regular gems only have a handful. Not only that but power over life and death, which is really a hugely powerful ability. I mean there were droves of rose quarts soldiers who, if rose was really a rose quarts, would have very similar powers. And they were all defeated by a single rose quarts? It makes WAY more sense that she was actually a diamond. Ive wondered this from the beginning, but assumed it was answered because of peridots arc discovering her metal powers--gems on homeworld have no idea what theyre really capable of because theyve been dropped into a mold and not allowed to grow or change from it. That is still true, but the fact that shes also a diamond explains that he has multiple powers seemingly like that. Maybe in the context of just season 5 this seems like lazy writing, with pink diamond being revealed, then deepened in such a short time where other reveals seem to be taking forever to reveal. But honestly, i think they were planning this from the beginning. If you see rose quarts and pink diamond as the same instead of being separated (as they were taken before this reveal), then things actually start to click, and her character becomes a lot more consistent. Think about Roses conversation with greg about babies, her fascination with trying everything without worrying about consequences, her mysterious nature: these are all setups that make pink diamonds childishness in jungle moon just look like a starting point for roses oldest point in earlier episodes with greg-- childlike wonder and happiness is a natural progression from childishness. I not only buy this reveal, i think it explains a lot about rose and pearl, and complicates (in a good way) what happened with the rebellion.

Samantha Doney Rose Quartz having so many powers would be understandable if she was part of the elites back on homeworld, that’s why I had my reservations on wether to believe if she was Pink Diamond or not, but when Garner said she was like every other soldier made on Earth I immediately thought that was lie and that she was Pink Diamond, specially when you compare other Quartz soldiers to her like Jaspers and Amethysts. She has the power to give life to inanimate objects, control the speed at which she descends and the force gravity exerts over her, cure gems, and enter other people’s minds and even control their bodies. 1. pink diamond is a round cut so it wouldn't be hexagonal like you said. This has been confirmed on pink diamond's wiki page with a picture of an actual pink diamond as a reference. this is a common cut of a diamond to be this way. 2. rocks and donuts are not equal compositional. donuts are biodegradable and could possibly digest quickly then you know rocks which are not biodegradable. 3. as far as pink diamond being a child? well, that's just how we the audience in the diamonds are able to view her as. to her court pertaining to her role in the diamond authority she presented as a leader. so she really isn't a child in actuality. even the design she's wearing childlike clothing but she definitely a woman in shape and stature. her shape-shifting into rose quartz could be a metaphor of how she perceives herself of how she came into her own on earth. referring to her mating with humans, given that she is a giant to the civilians of Earth it's not like she could have just went up to them in her diamond form. so her taking on that persona make sense in that regards too. 4. the rebellion of the gem war was an event that occurred approximately 5750 years ago according to the wiki. mesopotamia happened about the average of 5000 years ago so it really does add up. As far as the hunter and gather thing we no from colonization of america that indigenous people were still practicing hunting and gathering as far as the 1600s and its safe to say they didn't revert back these practices from the time of mesopotamia was getting busy with agricultural. that was around 400 years ago not those big numbers you provided in your videos. there are still in hunter and gatherer societies today still. 5. the mysteries of Rose shattering pink diamond was that rose could not have had access to pink diamond and that was acknowledged in the trial. that and rose quartz sword not being able to destroy gems was integral to the mystery. 6. we don't know the extent of pink diamond's or steven's powers at this point. nor did we know rose's limitation and that has always been an issue with the series.

I thought the way she faked her shards was pretty awesome. We speculated that Pink had fire powers. She breathed fire/life into the dirt and made a gem (which she then shattered). It's like a peek into how diamonds could have made the first gems. I thought that this twist made the most sense, given all the evidence and foreshadowing. The crew did a good job with their story, and I'm excited to see what comes next.

Picking at details that are wildly inaccurate, especially when coming to timelines. We have no idea how much time has passed between Pink demanding a colony and her having that colony, let alone the amount of maturity she experienced while on Earth. Second, many of us has already seen that if you turn pink diamonds get it would be a rose quartz shape. I know you did your own analysis, but seriously, I think you are going about this whole thing way too seriously and are trying to find points to argue. By the way, hunter gathers still exist today, more in numbers in the past. If Steven believes the gem should be orienting this way, his mind alone could be restricting it from moving. By pink maintaining her girl for thousands of years, this tells us that a diamonds strength is far beyond any other gems. Steven is a gem of amount the most powerful. It isn't far stretched.

(Response to 6:42) In theory, pearls can teleport, so it is likely that Pearl teleported to appear to be in front of Pink Diamond. This explains why so many people thought they saw Rose Quartz attack from the front. The reason why I think pearls can teleport is because of how Yellow and Blue Pearl seemed to have teleport (not warped) to enter a room. There were no warp pads underneath or near to them when they appeared in front of Steven.

the more i think about it, the more rose being pink diamond’s alter ego makes sense. one of your maint arguments here was that pink diamond is a child - but that’s just the tiny bit we have been shown. plus - we are talking about thousands of years! isn’t there time for growth and change? and isn’t that one of the main themes of steven universe? here’s what i think: pink diamond was somehow “defected” for a diamond; much smaller than the other diamonds and perhaps more emotional which would be very unusual for a gem. she tries very hard to be someone else, be like the other diamonds, but when she gets to earth she finds that people have more room to be just who they are; they don’t necessarily need specific roles. she finds her home. plus are we watching the same show? i actually found rose quite childish/immature 😅 for example the way she treated greg when they first met. although she is fascinated by them and wants to become a better person by being like a human herself, she doesn’t really know how humans work, which makes her seem not emphatic. In a way, when she gave birth to steven and thus in a way became steven, it was the ultimate way for her to learn how to be a human. what i find interesting now is pearl and rose’s relationship. i found it a bit problematic even before this revelation, but now it shows in even a more shady way. there is a huge imbalance of power between them; forcing someone to be unable to talk about her is horrible!

Actually I thought because Steven was attached to the gem by the belly in roses womb the gem had no way to move so it stayed in the shape of rose quartz. And because Steven viewed himself as a rose quartz it translated to his fusions because that's how he viewed his gem so it didn't move. Steven has been under the mental restriction of being a rose quartz since he was born so he wouldn't know that his gem was actually different because that's how it's always been.

Fusion at its core is the coming together of more than one identity to create a new amalgamated one. Rose's natural gem position may not have been the Quartz position, but Rose's identity, no matter how manufactured it is, is not Steven's identity. He was born with the gem in that position, so that is HIS natural gem position, so that aspect of his identity would be preserved in fusion.

Honestly, I can't agree. Pink may be the "child" but I feel that is only how the other diamonds perceive her. Her introduction was very much through the eyes of others who infantilize her. I don't think she is "coded" as a child as much as she is just treated like a child because she doesn't live up to the standard of a diamond in many ways. Also, I don't feel like it was that forced. The inconsistency with the shape of the gem is a bit of a oversight, but I don't see why she couldn't have moved the fake shards to a place inside her that would release them when she poofed... if that makes sense. I am pretty sure Amethyst likes to digest her food so that could be a reason. I also agree with others who liked how this twist was so obvious that we assumed it couldn't be correct. I can't believe I dismissed this theory early on. There are many hints throughout the show about this. Why can Rose's shield protect against a diamond attack? Rose is also an incredible leader. She can do things other gems cannot and Steven clearly has abilities that are so unexpected for the CG, it makes sense that Rose isn't just any rose quartz. She can bring back the dead for crying out loud! There are so many things that do make sense, I can't help but feel like you're being picky! But I can totally understand where you are coming from. I figured that Pink originally became Rose because she started questioning her colony, her purpose as a diamond, and also because the other diamonds kept pushing her so hard to be a diamond like they were. She was tired of being reprimanded. Pink thought for so long that she needed to be a diamond, but something on Earth made her question what being one meant. She pretend to be a rose quatz at some point. Maybe to see why having a colony was so important. What was every gems' use and purpose? Maybe if she followed one, she could find her purpose, her use. Instead, she found a new life on earth again and again and again. On earth, she felt free because of that and so she wanted to continue to be free. In the process building her colony, Pink Rose Diamond grew up and change a lot of her perpective.... Which growth, changing perpective AND undertanding what love really Is just so happens to be the three key things that are always shown in Steven Universe. You say that gems know their purpose, but you forgot that the crystal gems have and can abandoned them their purpose to be whoever they wish. A motto that stuck by them all this time! That means even a diamond can abandoned her own purpose. In fact, all gems have always been able to because they can do it. Just because a person is born to do one thing, doesn't mean they will grow up like that. Time changes and so do the gems. Growth, change in perpective, and love found their way to envelop Pink Diamond, which lead to her making the biggest decision of a lifetime. She became Rose and fought for freedom. That is why Pearl has been so stuck on Rose all this time. Rose may have been the greatest Diamond in history to Pearl. Also, a Diamond's power is bound to be more abundant and advanced more than any other gem. They wouldn't be worthy of the diamond role if they didn't. So perhaps Steven's shield, healing ability, and sword is what made Pink the most impressive Rose ever seen. But... This is just my theory anyway. Sometimes shows and movies do certain things on purpose to hide the biggest reveal of all time, like a diamond of all people opening her eyes to the earth surrounding her. Seriously, take a look back at what Rose said before she became Pink. The words "Pink diamonds colony" was said in disgust as if she didnt want to be a diamond anymore. The words speaking on freedom was like a song to her ears like this change will be the best thing in history. It slightly sounded like her usual childish ways as if not completely thought out, yet. As in, not predicting what happens if a diamond is shattered. However there was this line too, "If this is really my world," Rose said, "then I want to give it to the crystal gems..." That means no more being the diamonds' child, but becoming the mother of her own colony by letting earth be itself. The other diamonds probably never understood that. Rose can actually be the more grown up Pink Diamond. Still a bit naive, but learning with time.

it seems like daimonds largely have more free reign over several aspects we know about gems. rose's ability to float in particular is simply takign advantage of the fact gems alter mass in order to be able to properly walk on a planet. and her ability to sustain a diferent shape like that may mean they are not so 'limited' to their apeprance. it may be that while powerful their primary factor is that other gems have some inherent limiter that they do not.

Which would make sense to me, since teenagers are notorious for doing crazy, irrational, irresponsible things for love. When you really think about everything Pink/Rose has done, it seems plausible.

Honestly I dunno about the community at large (I don't generally follow the fandom and only watched videos like this one because I'm definitely conflicted about the new episode) but I'd, personally, assume that what you're noticing with this is just two different and yet equally vocal parts of the fandom, one part that had originally theorized and accepted this, and the other part that, sure, maybe they did think this could be the case, but also thought it was problematic or, in some cases, borderline lazy storytelling. When Pink got poof, the gem rotation was part of her new form and fusions ALWAYS reflect new forms and clothes that their parts make up (except for alexandrite in reunited). The real problem with comparing this show to others is the immense amount of detail that the creators put into hints. More than any other series ive seen they have dropped subtle hints across so many episodes, that with the fanbase putting everything under a magnifying glass makes them go wild with theories. Rose being Pink Diamond has had subtle things dropped since near season 1, they put the details in so we can piece it all together and come up with our own theories. Them turning out to be correct isnt bad writing, its great foreshadowing.

Disclaimer: I am not a geologist. LOL So Pink Diamond's gem seems consistent to me if we're looking at her like a solitaire diamond cut. So diamonds get "cut" and have different shapes like princess, solitaire, heart, oval, emerald, etc. All diamonds, just different shaped cuts. The only thing that is seemingly inconsistent is the way the diamond is faceted. And that may be explainable because you can "see through" facets to see some of the other facets, because diamonds are translucent. D: But actually, some Rose Quartz stones can be pretty translucent as well and can be cut in a similar fashion. Not sure why Blue and Yellow have a more "natural" cleavage or playing card Diamond shape, but Pink has a solitaire cut. Maybe they'll explain that as they go. I suspect it may have to do with her smaller stature and maybe her differing personality? Perhaps Yellow and Blue are "perfect" natural diamonds and Pink is simply not. Then again, there was that episode with Jasper being like the perfect grown gem from her kindergarten... and she was larger and stronger than the rest. :X Also good to note, is that natural rose quartz looks nothing like the shape on Rose's stomach, or Amethyst's gem for that matter either. Natural diamonds also look nothing like they do before being cut. Also, they rarely ever look like a perfect playing card shaped diamond. But this all has to do with cleavage and junk and the way that stones naturally lean towards splitting with their make up. D: I guess that's just my 2 cents about the gem inconsistency thing. lol They have done a bit of leading up to this moment and hinting this would happen, so I'm not exactly surprised that this story pathway came to fruition. I also think it's a bit dumb to criticize gem abilities and 'gems natural appearance'. The best twists are usually learning about a skill you didn't know characters were able to do, thus enabling them to get away with stuff. Diamonds are the most powerful gem, so they should be able to shapeshift. Not only that but are able to change after you've been poofed, to a degree of which your gem is powerful enough to. You saw how much Amythest changed in her own episode where she keeps regenerating. So the question of a Diamond reforming to become in the shape of another gem shouldn't be a question. Gems wouldn't want to limit themselves to a lesser shape, so they'd always regenerate to their potential. Diamonds are the highest potential so they should be able to look like a lesser gem. As for Stevens birth, we don't actually know if rose 'poofed' to birth Steven, maybe she just went back into her gem which was now attatched to Steven in the same way. And lastly, in fusions, the gems stay in the position they were previously. So, that shouldn't be an issue.

Actually, I think this adresses some issues there were with Rose- more specifically, how strange her powerset was. A simple grunt soldeir as a quartz wouldn’t need many abilities other than sheer strength and maybe some fire. Which then raised the question as to was Rose was so OP. Floating, healing tears, ressurection of organic life, control over plants, strength, possible empathy powers... It felt excessive. Plus, if all rose quartzes had such abilities then they would have been too much of an asset to the war to give up. Pearl stated that Rose could heal gems, and its implied that other gems could not- for example, Peri’s goop. Why would homeworld need to create technology to heal gems if some gems could? Furthermore, Homeworld seem to have no idea how Rose could keep the rebellion going if Homeworld kept taking out gems: they believed she increased her forces or kept saving them, not that she could heal. Since the Diamonds powers seem to affect a specific part of a gem (Yellow affects their projection, Blue their emotional wellbeing and White heavily hinged to affect the mind) I wouldn’t be surprised if they made Pink’s dominion be gems. No other gem could turn their gem other than PD because they simply lacked the power. I agree the execution could have been better, but this solution is the only one that truly made sense in the long run. The fact that for many it was so much of a surprise just goes to show the balancing act that was required. People never complained when Gravity Falls puoled out the two Stan’s card even when that theory existed beforehand, why should people now.

Let me try to explain to you why pinks gem being flipped literally means nothing. The gem being flipped was to hide her identity and pass herself off as a quartz, she didn't literally change into a quartz. She chose to become a quartz because the gem cut was the most *similiar* to hers when it was flipped. There is no evidence of a gem ever changing into another gem on their own, but there isn't any reason why a gem can't be physically turned while the gems body becomes light. The gem is still in the same place, it's just in a different position after the body reforms around it. Steven's gem is in that position because rose/pink *purposefully left it that way* while she conceieved him. And it didn't revert back because he is part gem and part HUMAN. You failed to mention that. The human part of him is literally surrounding his gem, it CAN'T move. Thats why when he fuses the gem glows, but *he* can't become light. When rose became steven, the gem on stevens stomach became permanently stuck that way. And unless the gem gets ripped from his stomach theres no way to move it. because, let's all say it class, steven is part HUMAN and his flesh can't become light. Seriously this is fucking easy to understand. I don't get why so many people are confused by pink diamonds gem flipping. Also, the fusions, that's also easy to explain. When two different gems fuse, they give themselves a name. Just like "Stevonnie" is just fucking name. But for some reason we're ok with stevonnie, but not ok with "rainbow quartz and smokey quartz" despite the fact that also is just a name of a fusion. It has nothing to do with their literal gems. Because if you hadn't notice, their gems do not change in anything but hue it's still the same gems. And in the real world, none of these gem combinations are even close to their real life counterparts. To say that rainbow quartz should be rainbow diamond, you're missing the entire point. Rose and pearl did NOT want to blow their cover, so they never would chose a name that would out themselves. Steven *thought* he was a quartz, so he and amethyst chose a name based on that assumption. Why would steven know he's a diamond? He has nothing else to reference it to. He's been told he's rose quartz his entire life. Why would we think any differently? You'll also notice that when it's a group of the same gems, they don't choose a name. i.e ruby, topaz,etc. It's only the fusions of gems that are different. Because fusion names are just *names.* We don' t know if another amethyst and a pearl would even make an opal. We just ASSUME it would. but who knows, they could make an "aura amethyst." becuase you certainly do not create a REAL opal out of an amethyst and a pearl. I swear the reaction to rose actually being pink diamond is like watching people going through the 7 stages of grief. They had it planned from the beginning you just gotta accept it.

It's a bit curious that you didn't like the contrast between Rose's maternal figure and Pink's childish ways, because that's actually what I find the greatest about them being the same person. People tend to think of parents as if they were completely mature, 'finished' beings, when they're not. There's a famous song in my country that has some verses that could be translated as this: "You blame your parents for everything, that's absurd "They are children like you "Like you will be "When you grow up" The dual nature of Rose/Pink seems to me as another version of this insight. (It might seem a bit gross that she had sex, but gem's are never children and her partners felt attracted by adult-looking Rose, not Pink.) I also disagree about the developments around Rose's crimes being useless. If you actually think about it, her crime was much worse, as it caused a lot more than a single death. The fact that Steven already got used to the idea that she was not perfect (as the maternal Rose looked like) will probably make it easier for him to take responsibility for her mistakes (caused by Pink's immaturity). Other than that, I do agree about all the plot contradictions. Great video.

Regarding the Pink Diamond, Rose Quartz, and Steven, do you think it's possible that when Pink got poofed, she simply reformed as Rose? I don't fully remember all the details of every episode, but didn't Amethyst reform to look like Pearl? Granted, it was easier (and more accurate) to simply shift to look like Pearl, but perhaps as a diamond, Pink is more likely to be able to pull off a larger change in appearance.

BTW, Smokey Quartz isn't actually impossible, since Amethyst is a type of quartz. The only two fusions Rose was a part of within the crystal gems that are confirmed are smokey and rainbow quartz, and rainbow quartz could easily be just a different name for what Pink and Pearl actually make when fused (they can lie). The remaining possible fusions involve three or more gems, making it even harder to tell what gem trait came from which component gem. So I think it actually is possible for Rose to pull off at least the fusion lie.

It really seems like you just don’t like being wrong. its not predictable if you didn’t guess it, the crewniverse had been leaving red herrings to make people overthink. all of these discrepancies are based off of your own subconscious theories and base acceptances. You imagined all of the rules, and made yourself disappointed whenever the truth of the show which has been preconceived from the beginning doesn’t intersect. See the rest of the comments for various explanations and facts that were hinted at throughout the show that you managed to miss or ignore in place of your own fan theory. EX: Pink Diamond being some eternal child, when her character arc while she was alive was already confirmed to be maturing and learning about love and acceptance. There were several problems with the execution of this reveal and how it was advertised, but pointing out ONLY your preconceptions that weren’t supported makes this a very sloppy video and honestly makes me question the validity of your theories overall. I think Pink Diamond isn’t as much a child but an angsty teenager. Side note, if you delegate responsibilities well, you can lead two lives I mean heck look at Bruce Wayne XD side note, I think there is something big because maybe there is no murder of Pink Diamond but there is a huge deal with trust and building new bonds amongst the crystal gems. To be honest, I think this is a healthy look at into being the child your family expects you to be versus who you WANT to be. There are many kids that are pushed into professions such as doctor, lawyer, etc. when the child/person has no interest in that subject except it is what the family wants. Pink Diamond wanted to have a colony unlike any other Homeworld colony where gems could co-exist with the life already found on Earth. However, in order to even interact with her colony, Pink Diamond can not be seen with the 'lowly organic life' so she had to disguise herself as a Rose Quartz. In the end, what Pink Diamond fought for was the ability to be who you are without everyone else telling you what you are supposed to be. This is what Garnet, Bismuth, and all of the crystal gems came to love Rose Quartz for. To see a Diamond behave this way would have brought great shame to many of the conservative gems from her 'family' aka Diamonds to the stiff gems like Agate. By acting as a simple Rose Quartz, she was able to maintain the ideology of what the Diamonds stood for while still being able to explore her own colony. The fact that Steven no longer has to fight with his mother being a 'murderer' doesnt change the fact that Steven had to fight with that. He has already grown from that encounter. ANYWAY RANT OVER I want to hear more from you and maybe take two steps back to appreciate what this reveal can really be for this show. SEE YOU NEXT TIME!

As far as the position as the gem goes, you’re assuming Steven couldn’t control its position, when it could very well have been done subconsciously. I’m a addition, being partially human, it likely can’t move once it’s been made in a certain place, I. E. When he was first born, as he is partially human. Also, a lot of things are done subconsciously when Steven starts learning how to use his gem. This is literally an alien race. Many things that weren’t done before were done here. And with pink being off colored (theorized) her gem could look diamond at first glance like it was but when turned it looks new. And as far as the proofing part goes, Pink (or rose) was able to shape shift a reproductive system. Amethyst could’ve made a digestive system. As pearl found it gross to eat, this could tie together.

You want people to think back on certain moments in the show and go, "Oh!" and realize the pieces were already there.
